I've been working on this for a while! I couldn't wait to get it up!

Title: A New Day
Author: NewYorker18
Disclaimer: I do not own any of the Roswell series characters. It might be nice if I did! *happy*

Prologue

Disclaimer: I still do not own any Roswell characters; I also don’t own Matchbox 20 or their lyrics.

As Max walked by the door of the Crash Down, he looked inside as he always did. He saw Liz and she saw him. Her gaze lingered for a moment, then she looked away. Something had changed her, she didn’t look at him the way she used to. He stayed a moment and then walked on. He knew Liz’s dad approved of him. He had changed, but Liz changed too. As he walked toward home, he felt depressed.
I think I've already lost you
I think you're already gone.
I think I'm finally scared now
You think I'm weak - But I think you're wrong
I think you're already leaving
Feels like your hand is on the door
I thought this place was an empire
But now I'm relaxed - I can't be sure
I think you're so mean - I think we should try
I think I could need - this in my life
I think I'm just scared - I think too much
I know this is wrong it's a problem I'm dealing
If you're gone - maybe it's time to go home
There's an awful lot of breathing room
But I can hardly move
If you're gone - baby you need to come home, come home
There's a little bit of something me
In everything in you
I bet you're hard to get over
I bet the room just won't shine
I bet my hands I can stay here
I bet you need - more than you mind
I think you're so mean - I think we should try
I think I could need - this in my life
I think I'm just scared - that I know too much
I can't relate and that's a problem
I'm feeling
If you're gone - maybe it's time to go home
There's an awful lot of breathing room
But I can hardly move
If you're gone - baby you need to come home, come home
There's a little bit of something me
In everything in you
I think you're so mean - I think we should try
I think I could need - this in my life
And I think I'm scared - do I talk too much
I know it's wrong it's a problem I'm dealing

If you’re gone – maybe it’s time to go home
There’s an awful lot of breathing room
But I can hardly move
If you’re gone – baby you need to come home
Cause there’s a little bit of something me
In everything in you
Something in me
In everything in you
Something in me
In you

Max resolved that day walking home that he wouldn’t let Liz go. He would find a way back to her heart somehow.
The next day he walked by the Crash Down again and looked in. Liz looked and looked away, just like before. Max didn’t walk by this time; he went in and sat down at a table. Liz came over. He said, “Could I have a piece of Apple Pie and Tabasco sauce please?”
Liz asked what he was doing there. He replied, “Make that two pieces of pie and a five minute break for you.” There were not many people in the restaurant at that moment. Liz got one piece of pie and a bottle of Tabasco sauce. She sat down, ready for the information that followed.
“I love you, Liz Parker. Nothing will ever change that. I don’t know why you’ve been ignoring me. Just one day without talking to you broke my heart. I hope I haven’t lost you forever. I need you. Please don’t leave me. I need you now more than ever before. Why are you doing this?” He was searching for answers.
“Liz Table 4!!” her father shouted.
“I get off at 9:00. I’ll see you then,” she said.
Max left money on the table for the pie. He got up and walked out feeling much better about himself and his relationship.

9:00 pm that night.

Max walked into the Crash Down. Liz walked out of the kitchen area, while fixing her apron, and said, “We’re clo… MAX!”
They sat down at the bar area. Liz started to pour out all the emotions she’d had over the last few weeks. Why she had ignored him. Why she just left. Maria walked in and saw them talking. She started to turn around when Michael walked up behind her.
“Lets go to your place Spaceboy, and leave Loverboy and High-strung over there alone to talk out their problems,” Maria suggested.
“You got it!”
“Bye chica, Michael and I are leaving. Have fun”
Liz didn’t even look up; she just gave a weak wave.
***
Meanwhile, Maria and Michael talked on the way home. They talked about their plans for the evening. Michael and Maria walked close as they neared the house. They had finally gotten back to Michael’s. They had planned to watch a movie or something. The lights were not at their brightest, needless to say. Sitting became cuddling; cuddling became making out, making out became fierier. They had forgotten the movie. They were now tuned to each other and nothing else. The room suddenly melted away. Then, the phone rang. This brought them out of bliss with the same kind of halt that a speeding car has at a red light. Michael answered the phone: “Hello?”
He was surprised at the voice that screamed at him through the phone. He was sure if the voice could it would stick an arm through the receiver and grab his neck.
“MICHAEL, WHERE IS MY DAUGHTER? SHE SHOULD HAVE BEEN HOME 3 HOURS AGO. SHE GOT OFF AT 9:00. BRING HER HOME NOW!!!”
***

“I can’t answer your questions Max. I don’t have any answers. I know I’ve been cruel to you, but…"
"I love you Liz, isn’t that enough for you?”
“I… uh, well to tell you the truth; I love you to, you know that, but our relationship won’t work. My father...”
“ Liz you can’t blame this on your father, I’ve seen the way he looks at you when I walk by the door. He looks sad almost, like he doesn’t understand. Then he looks at me with an ‘I’m sorry, I don’t know how to help’ look.”
“Max,”
Her gaze caught his and he started to lean toward her, she hesitated a moment and then forgave him of whatever she was mad about. She leaned as well. Their lips met with warmth and love, unlike any Liz had before felt. She knew it was all from Max. She saw visions of his childhood again. This time she also the times they had been together. In the park, at the Crash Down, on her balcony. They broke the kiss, and they continued to talk. After they had talked a while they found themselves on Liz’s balcony or porch, whichever you prefer.
"Let’s try to work out our problems this weekend, just you and me, ok?”
“I guess, my dad might have something to say about that festival thing and being off work with all the tourists. Let me ask.”
She came back just a few minutes later, with a strange look on her face. “My dad said it was ok, he didn’t even say anything about the festival.”
“I’ll pick you up early Saturday morning, is that ok?”
“Yeah”
Max gave her a final kiss and left. Liz was left wondering why her father had been so willing to let her go. She shrugged it off and got ready for bed.
***

Maria grabbed the phone from Michael’s hand. “Mom! We were just watching a movie. It is a Friday night you know. I have nothing to do anyway, and I bet you were in bed!”
“Maria, you come home this second. I don’t like you with that boy alone.”
“Its no different than you and Kyle’s dad!”
“Just come home. We’ll talk then. Now! Do you hear me?”
“Coming” Maria hung up the phone.
“She’s paranoid. Well I better go before she calls again. See you later Michael.”
“I…” Michael started to say, but she was gone.

*Part One *

It was the dawn of a new day in Roswell. The sun had come up as bright as you could imagine. Max Evans rose from his room and headed toward the kitchen, hoping his parents weren’t awake yet. That would give him time to fix breakfast and get a head start on his busy day. As he rounded the corner to the kitchen he could see his father at the table.
Oh no, Max thought, what am I going to do now.
As he came to face his father he saw that he had fallen asleep sitting up. Max gently shook his father and said, “Dad, how long have you been sitting here, go back to bed.”
“Bed? Oh, ok thanks son,” his father grumbled.

Whew, Max thought, that was close!

Max hurried himself with cooking eggs, bacon and toast. Eventually, Isabel came to the kitchen and said, “Wow, Max that smells so good.”

Max had just finished setting the table when his parents came to the kitchen. He wondered what they would say. He had only cooked breakfast one time before, several years ago for his parents’ anniversary. He poured the coffee and waited for the inevitable. His parents sat down, took sips of coffee and sighed.

“What’s going on Max, you never make breakfast,” his father said.

His mother looked worried and said, “Honey what do you want?”

“Uh…”

“Well now that you mention it, Michael is behind on his electric bill, he wants to know if he can crash here for a few days?”

Max had a look of sheer worry on his face.

“That’s not all, what else?” His parents stared loomingly at him.

“And... Liz and I were planning a little getaway trip this weekend? Is that ok?”

“We’ll think about it,” they said as they walked into the living room.

Isabel sat back in her seat and laughed. “You think they’ll actually let you go.”

“Why not?”

“You and Liz alone?, Ha!”

“I already thought of that,” he said dejectedly.

Right at that moment his parents walked back in the door to the kitchen.

“Son, we’ve thought about it and we just don’t think it’s a good idea right now,” his father stated.

“With the Alien Heritage Festival Parade this afternoon,” interjected his mother.

That, the new first annual Alien Heritage Festival, was sure to draw a major crowd. Which is exactly why Max and Liz wanted to get away this weekend. He sighed as he thought of what to tell Liz.
Then Isabel spoke up, knowing there would be too many people in town for even her liking, and figuring that would be a good way for she and Alex to spend some time together anyway, “Don’t worry about them, I’ll go along to supervise.”
“ISABEL, Liz and I are old enough we don’t need a babysitter!!,” Max shouted.
“Max, honey, I think she’s right, you can go if Isabel goes along,” his mother said.

Their parents left the room, their father getting ready to go to work for the morning, their mother getting ready to go to the market to pick up some groceries. After they left Isabel just looked at her brother. He was still mad at her and she knew it. She picked up her dishes, placed them in the sink, and started to walk toward her room to call Alex. Then she paused to turn around and say,
“I guess all the aliens might as well go, why don’t you call Michael?”
“I was really planning on time alone for the two of us.”
“You’ll have plenty of time alone, we’ll each go our separate ways when we drive out of town.” “Besides, do you think I really want to stay with you and Liz? I was going to call Alex!”
“Well pack your tent and sleeping bag because that’s what we planned to do anyway.”
End Part 1-- TBC
Hope you enjoy!!

* Part 2 *

After the phone calls had been made, Isabel and Max loaded their stuff into their shared Jeep, though Max was the only one who ever drove it. Michael had already arrived with his stuff and had it loaded in the car. Their parents weren’t aware the entire gang was going, but that was for the best. They piled into the car and drove to Liz’s house as the Evans’ waved goodbye. Maria and Alex said they’d walk there to reduce the run around. When they arrived the three were waiting outside with their things. Liz explained that her father was just a little skeptical until she told him the whole gang was going. He motioned Max over for a second and said,
“You take care of my girl now, I put my full faith in you not to let anything happen to my baby, ok.”
“Yes sir, nothing will happen to her, I promise.”
“Good, now you six have fun, take a lot of pictures and tell me all about it when you get home,” Liz’s father said as he waved them off approvingly. He thought, those two are inseparable; they make a good couple, such a nice boy, that Max. I just hope he doesn’t try anything stupid! I hope Liz will loosen up and give him the time of day.
Before he could think another thought the Jeep pulled up. “Back so soon?” he questioned.
“Alex forgot his guitar,” Michael shouted above the roar of the engine.
Max felt inside his pocket just to make sure he still had the most important part of the luggage there. He calmed down as he felt the outline of the box inside his pocket. With Alex back in the car with his guitar, Max shifted into drive and started down the road.
***

Max had driven this way a thousand times before. He was sure he could do it in his sleep. Though they hadn’t been driving very long everybody was either dead tired or on edge.
“How much further, Maxwell?” Michael questioned.
“You know this road just as well as the rest of us Michael,” retorted Maria.
“Is your name Maxwell?” Michael said calmly.
“You are so aggravating sometimes Michael Guerin,” Maria said.
Secretly Alex wished he’d brought earplugs. They fight like a married couple. Only they’re not. He started humming a new song he was working on. He hoped that would help drown out the arguing a little. Max just sighed as he drove over the bumpy terrain. Liz was helping Maria now. The arguing got louder and louder. Liz was screaming at Michael, Michael was screaming at Maria, and Maria was screaming at Michael. Each screaming profanities at the other. Each taking offense to what was said. Isabel whispered something in Max’s ear. Suddenly, Max slammed on the brakes and went into a spin off the side of the road. Everyone stopped what they were doing and stared at Max.
Alex said, “Are you trying to kill us?” as his heart pounded.
Max said, “No Alex, I’m not trying to kill you, just trying to stop all the racket. Liz please stop antagonizing Michael and Maria, they’re bad enough on their own. You both need to stop too. I can't bear it!!"
Liz felt an inch tall. Max had never yelled at her like this before. She decided to turn her head away. She resolved not to talk to him the rest of the trip. If he wants to treat me like this, I won’t I just won’t talk to him. That will let him know how I feel. I’m glad we didn’t go alone now. I wouldn’t be able to take it, she thought.
“I don’t want to have to stop again!” Max threatened.

The rest of the ride went smoothly, if you can call it that. No one spoke to anyone, and no one dared to make a sound. Max was never this pushy. They, all but Liz, knew there must be something on his mind.
As they pulled up to the campsite, they all took in the sight that lay before them. The sun came streaming through the treetops and there was a gentle breeze blowing that made the sunspots appear to dance on the forest floor. The sound of the trees was soft and calm. One could hear the birds chirping gaily. It was springtime and the leaves were green and new. The undergrowth was just blooming.
“I’ve never seen this part of the forest look this beautiful before,” exclaimed Alex.
The scene was breathtaking. Everyone was amazed at the beauty of the place they’d been so many times before.
They unpacked their tents and luggage and searched for a spot to set up base camp. They picked a clearing about thirty feet north in the woods from the car. They scoped the area for other advantages like caves, rocks, clearings, cliffs and such for privacy. After each had looked around, they started to pitch the tents and gather rocks to boarder the campfire, and sticks to feed it. Then, Max noticed something that he was afraid of.

End Part 2 – TBC

I hope you enjoyed this part*happy* Can you guess whats going to happen? *angel*

*Part 3*

Alex had noticed it too, but he decided not to say anything. Max and Michael were finished with one tent and moving on to the next when Maria and Isabel came back with rocks and firewood for a campfire. It was early afternoon, and Alex sighed as he reluctantly unpacked his sleeping bag and then went to help the girls with theirs.

“Hey Alex, you mind helping us for a sec?” Michael asked gently.

“Sure”

“Hey bro, you got big plans for this weekend?” Michael asked.

“None different than yours.”

Michael had a twinkle in his eye. He clearly planned to finish what he and Maria started last night. Alex noticed the twinkle and quickly corrected himself:
“Not if that’s what you mean, I’ll just see where the day takes us.”

Max just leaned on a tree and laughed. “Alex, you left yourself open for that one,” he said with a slight hint of nervousness in his voice that only Alex detected.

“Max, when we’re finished, can I talk to you a minute?”

“Sure Alex, I guess.”

After they had finished putting up the tents, Alex pulled Max aside into a spot he’d found earlier. “Max, something is going on with Liz.”

“I know,” said Max simply.

“I’m worried about her.”

“I guess it was because I yelled earlier. I think it upset her.”

“Yeah, what’s up with that, you never lose your temper. Were you trying to pull a Michael or something?”

“No I just have a lot on my mind lately. And Liz has been avoiding me and I’m scared I will lose her.”

“She loves you Max, I can see that. She’s just trying to find herself. Find what she wants. But don’t worry, I’m sure it’s you; I can see it in her eyes. The way she looks at you.”

“You think so?”

“I know so.”

That put a smile on Max’s face and confidence in his heart. They walked back to the campsite and everyone was waiting for them. It had gotten a little darker. It was about 7:00. They were waiting for dinner. Alex had taken his backpack with him by mistake, with all the food in it. Michael, Maria, Liz, and Is had managed to drag two logs back to the fire for seats. Michael was trying to start a fire in the little pit they had created, but to no avail. Alex walked up and took the sticks, pulled out a lighter and light the end of one of the twigs and simply started the fire. Michael was steamed! Why hadn’t he been able to do that?

Liz was leaning against Maria, looking into the flames. She wondered how her relationship with Max would ever work. She loved him and was willing to spend the rest of her life with him, but she didn’t know if he was willing to do the same. He said he loved her, but she wasn’t sure. Secretly she started to cry. Suddenly, she wished she hadn’t forgotten her journal. She could write a lot of things in it right now. How she loved Max and how he didn’t love her, or did or what? She just needed to write her feelings out. How dumb could I be to forget my journal?

They had hot dogs for dinner, with carefully cooked potatoes. Isabel had remembered to bring aluminum foil for such purposes. Maria sliced the potatoes nice and thin. They wrapped them in foil and placed them into the fire. When cooked just right they were tender and tasty. They all ate their fill and Isabel and Alex went off to a spot to talk. Maria helped Max cleanup while Liz went into Max’s and her tent to get ready for sleep. Michael just sat around with his elbows on his knees, his hands together in a fist form with his hands on his downward turned head. He sat like this when he was upset or thinking. Actually he was just waiting to be alone with Maria.
***

Maria accidentally cut her finger on the knife she used to cut the potatoes.

“Ouch!” she half-screamed.

“Maria?” Michael said looking up, “What happened?”

“Oh, I just sliced my finger on the knife.”

“You bleeding?” Michael inquired.

“Yeah, little bit, but its nothing I can’t handle.”

In fact she was bleeding a lot. Though it wasn’t really serious, Michael came to look at it and said, “Maxwell, come look at this.”

Max turned from what he was doing to look at Maria’s hurt finger. “Looks like it might need stitches.”

“That’s what I thought,” said Michael.

“Here, let me take care of that,” Max said. At that moment, Liz looked out of the tent, not hearing the whole conversation, and saw Max gripping Maria’s hand. She knew she shouldn’t be jealous or suspect anything, but she did. Max and Maria had been buddies always, but there was a shade of doubt that clouded her mind.

“There, it wasn’t too bad, but better to be safe than sorry, right?” Max said as he smiled.

Liz turned away and Max heard the tent door rustle.

“She saw us,” he said.

“I’ll go talk to her,” Maria said.

*In the Tent

“Liz,” Maria said gently.

“Look Maria…”

“I cut my finger, see? Max healed it because I should have had stitches, and here there’s a greater chance of infection.”

“I know, I… well, I guess I’m scared my relationship won’t work.”

“Talk to…”

“I’m sick of talking,” Liz started to sob.

“Let me help then.”

“I don’t need your help, I don’t need anyone!!” Liz screamed.

She ran out of the tent, into the woods.

Guys, I feel really stupid. I had like, the whole story that I've posted so far, and like parts 4, 5, and 6 on a disk. I tried to save it about 10 minutes ago and some how it got deleted off the disk. Don't ask!! I'm trying to piece together the parts I remember, but It could be a few days until I get the whole thing back together again. Hopefully, I'll get the rest of part four back. I had parts Prolouge through 2 and 1/2 of part 3 saved on my hard drive. Thank God. Since, my problem with the read only file thing that Transparent Clear helped me with. Now the whole thing is gone. I am so mad at my self and this is basically a rant post. I get dumb sometimes from lack of sleep but I know I pressed the save button. It told me there was an error saving it, switched the pathname and now I can't find it. I hate technology, can you tell?

If you can help fix my major boo boo, since I have a hard time just doing simple computer things, and you out there are geniuses, please, well, the best way to contact me is probably through my email, but board mail will work too. I'm sorry for the huge black hole, and delay. I'm trying to fix it while I'm kicking myself in the ass every five or so seconds. weak*happy*. Keep bumping and posting for me please!! Hope to get back here with parts four, five and six soon. THanks for your support.

Well, here goes. This is part four. I had it saved in another spot. THank God. I hope it is all of the part I intended to post. If something doesn't jive, just let me know and I'll try to fill in the details!!

*Part 4*

Max got up and went to Maria, and said, “Should I go talk to her?”

“No better let her alone.”

Meanwhile, outside Michael had gone after her shouting, “Liz, Liz stop, I’ll talk to you. That’s what you need now, a friend who will listen.” He had faded his voice and his gait in sudden realization that he was right. She needed someone to listen to her side. He kept walking, listening to the sound of the footsteps in front of him until he could see her go to a little clearing with a rock. He watched as she climbed on the rock, curled up with her arms around her legs and her head down and started to sob.

Michael cautiously walked over to Liz. He sat down beside her and put his arm around her. She just heaved and sighed.

Michael tried to console her, “I know, I know. Do you wanna talk about it?”

Liz just shook her head. “You sure?” Michael asked.

Liz just broke down. “Michael, I’m kind of emotional right now.”

“Everybody is a little uptight at the moment.”

“That’s not it,” Liz said, “Michael, I think… I think I’m pregnant.”

“WHAT?” Michael said flabbergasted.

“My cycle is really late.”

“You, Liz Parker, had unprotected sex with Max Evans?”

“Yeah,” she said sheepishly.

He tried to change his tone, “That could be stress you know. It has happened to Maria.”

“Promise me you won’t tell anyone.”

“I promise.” Michael said as he hugged Liz.

They sat there for the longest time. Michael just rocked her back and forth back and forth until and well after she had fallen asleep. Soon Michael could see the sun coming over the horizon.

*Hours before, at the campsite.

“Max, Michael went after her.” Maria said worried.

“I think they’ll be okay. After all, you said to let her be, so if we go after Michael, we’ll just upset her more. I’m worried about her too, she’s been acting really strange lately, one minute we’re fine, the next she’s kicking and screaming at me. I don’t know what’s wrong.”

“Maybe we’ll find out when Michael and Liz get back.”

Maria tried to be calm. “I need my cedar oil, want to smell it too, it’ll calm you down.” she said.

“Thanks,” Max said as he shook his head.

About the same time as all of this was happening, Alex and Isabel were talking.

“You know what’s going on with Max?”

“I could tell you, if I could read minds.” They both chuckled.

“Liz is acting funny too, Alex. Do you know what’s wrong?”

“I couldn’t guess.”

“Something strange is going on here, I just wish I knew what it was.”

“Don’t we all.”

Alex pulled out his guitar and started strumming away. He serenaded Isabel with a song from his favorite group, The Barenaked Ladies. The song is called Falling For the First Time, from their album Maroon. He thought the song was appropriate because that’s how he felt whenever he looked at her.
“Here goes,” he said.

“I'm so cool, too bad I'm a loser
I'm so smart, too bad I can't get anything figured out
I'm so brave, too bad I'm a baby
I'm so fly, that's probably why it
Feels just like I'm falling for the first time

I'm so green, it's really amazing
I'm so clean, too bad I can't get all this dirt off of me.
I'm so sane, it's driving me crazy
It's so strange, I can't believe it
Feels just like I'm falling for the first time

Anyone perfect must be lying; anything easy has its cost
Anyone plain can be lovely, anyone loved can be lost
What if I lost my direction? What if I lost sense of time?
What if I nursed this infection? Maybe the worst is behind
And it feels just like I'm falling for the first time

I'm so chill, no wonder it's freezing
I'm so still, I just can't keep my fingers out of anything
I'm so thrilled to finally be failing
I'm so done, turn me over cause it
Feels just like I'm falling for the first time

Anything plain can be lovely, anything loved can be lost
Maybe I lost my direction, what if our love is the cost?
Anyone perfect must be lying; anything easy has its cost
Anyone plain can be lovely, anyone loved can be lost
What if I lost my direction? What if I lost sense of time?
What if I nursed this infection? Maybe the worst is behind
And it feels just like I'm falling for the first time.”

“That was beautiful Alex.”

“Want another one?”

“We ought to head back to camp, its kinda late,” she said looking at her watch.

“Your wish is my command.”

They both chuckled as they headed back to the base camp. There they found Maria and Max both looking worried.

Well, here goes, I might as well post it. The part I still don't know if I have recovered the entire way, so if something sounds a little fishy, just let me know. Let me know what you think please.

*Part 5*

“What happened?” said Isabel, with a look of worry coming over her face too.

“Well, Liz is upset and Spaceboy went after her.” Maria said, still with her bottle of oil in her hand.

“Are they ok?” Alex asked. Both Liz and Michael were his friends; it hurt him to see his friends breaking apart. The others were his friend too, but Liz and Michael where the closest.

“Liz is upset because Maria cut herself, I healed her and Liz saw.”

“Did you have to heal a finger?” Isabel said frankly.

“She should have had stitches, and the chance of infection…”

“Ok, ok, I understand. It would be disaster if Maria’s finger got infected out here,” Alex said.

“Should we go after them?” Alex asked.

“No, Liz is upset, but she wanted to be by herself. If we go after her, we’ll just make her more upset. Besides, with Michael there, Liz will be ok. Michael won’t let anything happen to her.” Max said.

They decided to wait at the camp in case Liz and Michael came back. They sat around the campfire in couples. Maria and Max together on one side of the fire. Alex and Isabel on the other. One by one they fell asleep. Maria was the first to go, falling asleep in Max’s arms. Alex was next, resting his head on Isabel’s shoulder. Only Max and Isabel were still awake. They said nothing. Then not much later, Max and Isabel fell asleep almost simultaneously. With only a couple of hours left until sunrise, Max and Isabel awoke as fast as they had fallen asleep.

Max gently rose, picking up Maria. He carried her back to her tent and placed her on her sleeping bag. She began to stir and Max dared not move. After few seconds, Maria was breathing regularly again. Max carefully walked back to Isabel. He picked up Alex with the same care he had when he carried Maria. Alex started to stir, and gently Max put him back down. Alex quickly found the warm spot on Isabel’s shoulder.

“Oh well,” Isabel chuckled, “Now you’ll just have to fix breakfast by yourself.”

Max stared stolidly at Isabel. He made his way quietly into the woods looking for twigs for the dying fire. As he walked along, Train’s Hopeless could be heard in the background. Soon Max started to sing along with it.

I hopelessly, helplessly, wonder why
Everything gotta change around me
I'd tell it to your face
But you lost your face along the way
And I'd say it on the phone
If I thought you were alone
Why do things have to change

But you don't need my pictures on your wall
You say you need no one
And you don't need my secret midnight call
I guess you need no one
Is anybody waiting at home for you
Cause it's time that will tell if it's heaven if it's hell or if it's
Anybody waiting at home for you
Cause it's time that will tell this tale

You're in and out up and down
Wonder if you're lost or found
But I got my hands on you
Are you strong enough to tow the line
Are you gonna make me yours
Or do I make you mine
I'm in and out I'm up and down
Wonder if I'm lost or found
But I need your hands on me now

But you don't need my pictures on your wall
You say you need no one
And you don't need my secret midnight call
I guess you need no one
Is anybody waiting at home for you
Cause it's time that will tell if it's heaven if it's hell or if it's
Anybody waiting at home for you
Cause it's time that will tell this tale

I hopelessly, helplessly, wonder why
Everything gotta change

Max returned with a lot of small twigs and a few large branches. By now, the fire had died to smoldering ashes. He worked quickly, adding some of the smaller twigs he had gathered to fuel the fire and used his power to bring the fire back to life.

“Wha…”

“Alex has the lighter!” Max answered before his sister could ask.

Isabel lowered her head, which was sister talk for ‘sorry’.

“Izzy, its okay,” he consolingly said, “We are all a little on edge.”

“Max, are you going to go through with it,” she asked, “now that things have changed?”

“Have you been dream-walking again?”

“Well, just a little bit.”

“That was just in my head, a dream, aliens do dream you know! Please stay out of my head! Not like that would ever happen!” Max said defensively.

They saw the sun peeking through the trees signifying the start of the day. Just as the sun started to come up, Alex awoke.

“If you hurry, honey, you can watch the sun rise. You probably don’t see that alot at home.” Isabel said lovingly.

“No you are right. I don’t see the sunrise. Ever. Most of the time I’m still asleep.” He paused a moment. “Wow, that’s beautiful, just like you Isabel.”

“Yeah, isn’t it?” A voice said from behind them.

All three looked with a start to find Maria looking out of the tent at them.

“Wasn’t anyone going to wake me up to see the sunrise, or is it a private show.”

“You were sleeping soundly, we didn’t want to wake you.” Max said.

She joined them. “How did I get into the tent? I fell asleep on Max’s arm didn’t I?”

“I carried you there. No you didn’t fall asleep on my arm, you fell asleep in my lap!”

Alex and Isabel laughed. Maria had a look of horror on her face. “I am so sorry, Max. That’s the worst!”

“No biggie,” He said. Maria breathed a sigh of relief.

We've been in this house only 2 years and we spent alot of money fixing stupid mistakes. So the next part is already written, I should have it up later today!! Just for Pixie before she leaves.

Hey guys,

Here's part 6!! Hope you enjoy. I have most of the rest written, now I just have to type it up!

Part 6

Michael wasn’t sure if he’d fallen asleep at all that night. He remembered Liz falling asleep in his arms while he was rocking her. He didn’t remember falling asleep, but he didn’t remember waking up either. He watched the sun for a while thinking the whole time how hungry he was. I’m hungry. I don’t want to wake Liz. She’s had a bad night, or week or. I hope it wasn’t that long. Liz suddenly stirred, and Michael looked down at her. It took her a few minutes to fully waken.

“Feel better?” Michael asked kindly.

“No.”

“You wanna tell me?”

“Its just that, well, I don’t know what I’m going to do. If my parents ever find out, they’ll kill me. I won’t have anywhere to go, if I get out alive.”

“You can always stay with me. I have a couch for me, a bed, and plenty of space for baby accessories.”

“What about Maria?”

“I have enough room for her too.”

“I couldn’t ask you to do that.”

“You don’t have to ask. I’m offering. You’d better take it quickly because I don’t offer often.”

“Well in that case, I would be grateful if I could stay with you for a while.”

“I don’t think you’ll need to, Max would take care of you.”

“He’s been acting funny lately. I don’t know if he’d want to be with me.”

“He loves you Liz Parker, I am positive.”

“We ought to head back now, they’re probably worried about us.”

“That’s my girl.”

Michael jumped down off the rock and held his hand out for Liz. She grabbed his hand and carefully climbed down. Michael let her hand go when she touched the ground of the forest floor. Liz quickly slipped her hand into his again. She sensed Michael tense and seconds later relax.

He wasn’t in love with her and he knew she wasn’t in love with him. They were friends, just friends. He was happy with that. They walked back toward the campsite hand in hand in a comfortable silence.

TBC—I want to know what you think. I will not write anymore (literally, I don’t trust my computer with the files anymore so I write everything down now.) unless you tell me what you think. Tell all your friends what they are missing

BTW-Did anyone pick up on the fact that Liz thinks she's pregnant?*angel*

MICHAELA-You are the best reader I think I've had!! Yep! I'd tell you all my secrets, but that would ruin the story and you probably wouldn't continue reading it. You were the only one that picked up on Liz being pregnant! Or said anything about it!

Well everybody, since Michaela replied 7 times, just need 3 more before I will post!*bounce**angel*

Ok guys, here is what I have for part 7.

I'm dedicating this portion of my story and everything from July 10 on to a friend, Terry Walker and his passanger Carlton Wilcox .They died July 10 in a car accident hit head on by an out of control dump truck. They will be dearly missed.

Part 7

Max was still trying to get the fire to cooperate. Alex was wasting time tuning his guitar, though it didn’t need tuning. Isabel was busying herself with her appearance, going through her make-up bag, separating different kinds of make-up. She only did this when she was worried. Eyeshadows, lipstick, blush, foundation, ect. Then she picked out the shades that matched her outfit. Well, she realized, I’m still in the same outfit as yesterday, we all are. Duh Isabel, we were all worrying, we didn’t have time to put on clean clothes. This was a truly unselfish moment for Isabel.

Maria was looking into the struggling fire with her head propped up on her hand. She said nothing. She wished Liz and Max would make-up. It broke her heart that two of her very good friends were mad at each other, or something like that.

Max finally got the fire to stay consistent. Alex had stopped tuning his guitar and now he was just messing with a few chords, as if trying to figure out a song. Isabel shoved the make-up in her bag and sighed, looking at the fire too. Maria stayed with her head in her hand, still looking at the fire.
***

As they neared the campsite Michael told Liz, “I think its time to let go now. We don’t want them to be suspicious. They released hands.

Max was still concentrating on the fire when Michael and Liz appeared in the clearing, Max looked up, hesitated a moment, and jumped up to hug Liz.

“Oh Lizzie, I’m so glad you’re okay.” Max said as he hugged her.

“Nothing could happen with Michael around,” she managed to choke out through his hug.

At the same time, Maria got up, walked over to Michael and said, “ Glad you could make it back, Spaceboy. Just in time for breakfast, too, I think,” and fake punched his arm.

Max overheard this and replied, “Not quite.”

TBC—I know this is really short, but I have the next part finished and it’s really long. I don’t want to separate it. Michael and Liz are back at camp and I want that complete.

Yeah guys, thanks I'm okay. I didn't know Carlton as well as Terry. I just can't listen to the radio, they play songs that remind me of them, stuff like that. After I finished talking to Michaela last night I did type a little, I realized I don't have the lyrics to a song I'm using so I have to get those. After that, I should have the next part. This one is, well of course for Terry and Carlton, but for my stalkers Mahaik and Michaela! Enjoy guys!

Part 8

Liz was still a little shaken up at seeing Max again, and she showed it. Max usually could see these things, but he was too busy worrying about personal things. Alex could see Liz was upset still. He said casually, “Want to hear the new one I learned this week?”
He broke into the first verse of Third Eye Blind’s Jumper. {A/N: which was quite appropriate, given the situation. =)}

I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend
You could cut ties with all the lies
That you've been living in
And if you do not want to see me again
I would understand
I would understand

The angry boy a bit too insane
Icing over a secret pain
You know you don't belong
You're the first to fight
You're way too loud
You're the flash of light
On a burial shroud
I know something's wrong
Well everyone I know has got a reason
To say

Put the past away
I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend
You could cut ties with all the lies
That you've been living in
And if you do not want to see me again
I would understand
I would understand

Well, he's on the table
And he's gone to code
And I do not think anyone knows
What they are doing here
And your friends have left
You've been dismissed
I never thought it would come to this
And I
I want you to know
Everyone's got to face down the demons
Maybe today

We can put the past away
I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend
You could cut ties with all the lies
That you've been living in
And if you do not want to see me again
I would understand
I would understand
I would understand

Can you put the past away
I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend
I would understand

The words touched Liz’s heart. Though she’d heard that song a hundred times, she connected with something this time. She was on the edge of emotional disaster. She needed to step back and see the whole situation. When she thought about it, Max did look preoccupied like something was on his mind. Suddenly, she was sorry she’d been so upset at him. Her heart lightened as she looked at Max long and hard. He barely noticed her gaze. He’s still the same Max I knew before, just pre-occupied. I’ve never seen him like this before. Well, he’s human, uh, well, part human anyway. She decided to take him to the rock she and Michael spent the night at, after breakfast was cleaned up!
Breakfast was over and everyone helped clean up. Max wouldn’t let Maria touch the knives, much to her dismay. Liz helped clean up this time and everything went very quickly.

Maria walked over to Michael and wrapped her arm around him. “Let’s go honey.” And she dragged him off.
Alex and Isabel had already left. They went back to the cave they’d been in when Liz ran off.
***

Maria had scoped the area when they’d arrived yesterday. She hadn’t really found an alone spot, and she hoped Michael had.

'I sure hope you found a good spot, cuz I didn’t,” Michael said.

“No I was hoping you had.”

“Look blondie,” he pointed, “there is a tree over there on the edge of the woods, see it there, all by itself?”

“Uh, yeah.”

“We could hang out there and talk.”

“Uh, yeah.”

“Look Maria, you know as well as I do our relationship is
not going well.”

“Yeah”

“Can’t we just talk about it?”

“I guess.”

“Damn it Maria, Why can’t you give me a straight answer
for once?”

“Michael…”

“No, I’m not finished. We’ve been fighting for months. I can’t take it anymore.”

“Michael, I…”

“Stop interrupting! I can’t stand the way we fight, we used to play fight all the time, but this is real hurtful fighting…”

“Michael, I love you.”

Michael’s shoulders dropped. A smile broke across his face as he said, “I love you to Maria. God, I thought I was losing you.”
***

At the cave, Isabel and Alex were doing the usual, making out. Alex stopped and pushed Isabel away. “Tell me again, why we are doing this?”

“Silly,” she said playfully, “because I love you and you love me.”

He moved her off his lap. “Yeah, but why, what’s the point?”

“Are you having second thoughts about our relationship Alex, cause if you are…”

“No, I just…”

“I was talking. If you are, then we don’t have to stay together anymore.”

“Wait, no, Isabel, that’s not what I meant. I…”

“Well, what are you saying then?” she said as she crossed her arms and shifted weight to her left foot.

“Why is our relationship based on making-out?”

“What else is there to base it on?”

“Love” he said simply.

TBC- There will be M/L part like the above, but I have to write it. Next part will finish the A/I scene.

The long awaited!

Part 9

Isabel wondered how stupid she could be. She wondered if maybe now she’d driven Alex away. Alex got up and sighed as he walked out of the cave into the bright daylight. Good thing I’m not a vampire, he thought. He shoved his hands in his pockets and sighed. He felt a tear in his eye. Isabel came up behind him and kissed him on the cheek.

“I’m sorry.”

That wasn’t enough for him. He said nothing so she continued.

“I’m sorry I was such a jerk.”

He was still looking for more.

“I’m sorry I was stupid. I’m sorry I made you upset. I’m sorry I was naïve. I’m just sorry.”

Alex looked at her and dropped his head. She embraced him and started to sob. “Oh Alex, I’m sorry I hurt you. I don’t know what’s wrong with me; I guess I’m just trying to forget what happened earlier. Make my life go better than that. I was wrong to question you.”

“I was trying to make our relationship better than that too. That’s why I asked you…”

“Stop,” Isabel said gently, “Let’s just forget about it and try to fix it. Instead of pining over it, just fix it.”

A smile came over Alex’s face. “Okay.”

***
Liz grabbed Max’s wrist and started to run just like she had the night before.

“C’mon Max, I have something to show you,” she giggled as she pulled him along.

“Slow down, what’s the rush?”

They finally reached the rock where Michael and Liz had talked the night before.

“Wow, its pretty here” This is perfect he thought.

“We have some stuff to talk about,” she said, breaking the mood.

“Yes, I guess we do.”

“Why don’t we start with why I’ve been acting funny like I have?”

“You don’t want to hear my explanation?”

“I’ll tell you first.”

“Okay”

“Max, its not easy to say this, but, I think I’m ready to say it now. Michael and I…” Max tensed thinking of Liz and Michael. “had a long talk about this.” Max sighed. “He told me things I already knew, but tried to forget.”

Max looked at her, puzzled.

“Well, anyway, Max,” she said as she grabbed his hand. “I’m pregnant.”

“Are you sure?”

“No, not really.”

Max sort of half smiled. “Oh, that’s what that was all about, a baby? You and me?” She nodded. “I don’t know if I’m ready to be a parent, but… That’s a relief. I thought you were going to tell me you never wanted to see me again, or hear the sound of my voice.”

“No, I thought about it, but Michael talked me out of it.”

“Thank God for Michael, right?”

“He did say if you left me or something, I could crash with him for a while, until I got on my feet again.”

They sat on that rock, talking for hours.

“Do your parents know?”

“Um, no?”

“Your father pulled me aside and made me promise nothing would happen to you. What are we going to tell him?”

“You’ll think of something,” Liz said quickly.

“Me, wha, oh no,” he said as he grabbed her and found her tickle spot. She giggled and laughed.

“Max,” she panted, “stop.”

He continued.

“Okay, okay, we’ll think of something together.”

“I think I know the perfect thing,” he said slyly.

The sun had started to go down.

“I know it hasn’t always been great for us, but lets make it that way.” Michael gave Maria a final kiss before he held out his hand to help her up. He linked arms with her as they started back to camp.

Alex and Isabel had talked the afternoon through, about how they’d fix their problems. They vowed to keep their emotions in check. They promised they wouldn’t question each other’s love. Isabel noticed the impending darkness and suggested a trip back to camp. They held hands all the way back.

“It’s the reason I’ve been pre-occupied lately.” He hopped down off the rock and reached into his pocket.

“Liz Parker, will you marry me?”

“Oh, Max,” she started to cry, “Are you sure? This is so sudden.”

“Lizzie, I love you, since the first time I met you, I knew I’d marry you one day. I’ve been thinking about how to ask you for weeks.”

He took the box out of his pocket and handed it to her. A/N: remember the box?

“Well open it.”

“Max, It’s beautiful,” she gasped. It was a silver band with a solid pinkish pearlized stone in the setting the shape of a diamond.

“It was my mother’s engagement ring.”

“Your mother’s? Does she know you have it?”

“No Liz, my real mother’s.”

“Your real mothers? Where did you…”

“I found it one day when I went to look for the ship myself. I only found out later it was hers. No one else knows I have it.”

Liz started to slip the ring on her finger. Max hopped up on the rock and said, “Let me.”

It had gotten so dark, Liz could barely see. “Max, we should head back, its getting dark.”

“You are right. Lets go. Piggy Back ride?”

“Sure!”

TBC
Now I don’t know if aliens wear engagement rings or wedding bands, but maybe it was something they liked that earth people did, or vice versa. I dunno! Hope you enjoyed. Sorry to break this to you but there are only one or two more parts left before this is done. I hate to see it end, but It’s going to have to eventually.

Part 10

Alex and Isabel and Maria and Michael arrived back at camp at the same time. They greeted each other and decided to pack up their stuff. With the end of the weekend, the new week began. (Well technically Sunday begins the week, but for our purposes, lets say it doesn’t really.) That meant going back to work. Going back to work meant getting sleep. Getting sleep meant going home, which, at 5 o’clock, they were anxious to do. They waited until 5:30, and then started to pick up Liz and Max’s tent. With that, they heard a rustling in the trees. They al looked simultaneously to see Max with Liz on his back walking to the campfire pit.

“You guys work it out?” Alex asked Max.

Max just smiled.

“I’ll take that as a yes.”

“Truth is…” Max started and he looked at Liz. She looked at him and took over.

“Truth is I’m pregnant and we’re getting married.”

“Max, you told me…” Isabel said annoyed.

“I told you that so you’d leave me be and not make fun.”

“Well congratulations.” Maria and Alex said together.

“What makes you think I would have made fun of you?” Isabel asked steamed.

“I know you.”

Alex shot Isabel a warning look; she saw it and stopped. “Sorry.”

They finished packing in silence. After they had loaded everything in the back of the Jeep they took one last look at the campsite. They all thought of the good and bad times they’d had.

All of a sudden Max spun Liz around and kissed her with a long passionate kiss.

Baby's black balloon makes her fly
I almost fell into that hole in your life
And you're not thinking 'bout tomorrow
'Cause you were the same as me
But on your knees

“Liz, I love you.”

A thousand other boys could never reach you
How could I have been the one?
I saw the world spin beneath you
And scatter like ice from the spoon
That was your womb

He kissed her again. “I never thought you’d love me back.”

Comin' down the world turned over
And angels fall without you there
And I go on as you get colder
Or are you someone's prayer

“If I ever hurt you, I’m sorry.”

You know the lies they always told you
And the love you never know
What's the things they never showed you
That swallow the light from the sun
Inside your room, yeah

”You mean the world to me, you know that right?”

Comin' down the world turned over
And angels fall without you there
And I go on as you get colder
Always someone

“I will always love you…”

And there's no time left for losin'
When you stand they fall

“…no matter what happens.”

Comin' down the world turned over
And angels fall without you there
And I go on as you get colder
All because I'm
Comin' down the years turn over
And angels fall without you there
And I'll go on to bring you home and
All because I'm
All because I'm
And I'll become
What you became to me

“Even if I’m not pregnant?”

“Even if you’re not pregnant.”

They jumped in the Jeep and drove toward home. It was about 6:30 when they left. By the time they arrived in the Roswell city limits, it was about 9. They were all tired so Max dropped Alex, then Maria, then Liz at their respective homes. They had planned to convene in the Crashdown after work the next day, to talk about pretty much, the wedding. For instance, how they were going to tell their parents.

TBC—Just to keep you waiting!! I have to write the next part, so it might be a while. Hope you enjoyed. Please leave me feedback. Oh, and the song I used was Black Balloon, by the Goo Goo Dolls.

Here's the last part until I get back!! See you soon!

Part 11

At about 9 pm the next night, after the Crashdown was officially closed, Alex, Isabel and Max walked in. Mr. Parker had already retired for the night. That meant they had the place to themselves. They just needed to work out a few sketchy details. How are they going to tell their parents?

They each took a seat at the counter while Liz and Maria refilled and cleaned up the tables.
Michael looked the most worried. He always got that way. He was prepared for a potential crisis.

“First thing, we’ll have to figure out is how to tell them Liz is pregnant. Then the marriage thing will be easier. Right?” Michael said.

“Um, actually,” Liz piped up, “I found out I’m not pregnant.”

“Did you lose the baby?” Maria asked concerned.

“No, I, well, Michael was right, I was just really late. I guess the whole fight I had with Max just stressed me out too much.”

“Sorry.” Alex said.

“The wedding still on?” Isabel inquired.

YES!” Max and Liz said together strongly.

Everyone started to laugh.

“Shh! My dad’ll hear us!”

“What if he comes down?” Maria inquired.

“We’ll have to try to cover.” Max responded.

“What if he asks about the weekend?” Alex asked.

“We’ll have to tell him.” Max replied.

“EVERYTHING?” Isabel nearly shrieked.

Max just nodded.

Alex jumped in, “I have a joke. What did Mr. Parker say about his daughter getting married?”

They all stared blankly at him.

“Give up? He says, WHAT!?!” he tried his best Mr. Parker impression.

It was an awful joke, but Michael started laughing hysterically. Then he snorted, which started everybody laughing. They continued on and on and the got really loud.

“What’s going on down there?” came a call from upstairs.

“Nothing dad, we’re just talking.”

“Is everybody down there? Give me a sec. Let me put shoes on.”

“Uh, oh, he’s coming down. Pray.”

Mr. Parker came down the stairs.

“How was this weekend? I see you are all still talking to each other. What did you do?”

The room was silent.

“Well you certainly must have done something.”

“Well certainly we did something Mr. Parker, we just don’t know where to begin,” Maria quickly covered.

“How about the beginning?”

“Well, after we left you the second time, Michael was being a pest.” Maria teased,

“Maria!” Michael retorted.

“Then I told Max the arguing was too loud and he yelled.” Isabel said.

“Then, we got to the campsite, we went off on our own for a while, then ate dinner. Liz went to get a tent ready, Maria cut her finger, Max helped bandage it, Liz got upset and ran off.” Alex said.

Liz glared at Alex.

Before Mr. Parker could say anything, Michael hurriedly continued, “And I went off to help her work out her problems and we talked all night.”

“And the rest of us sat up all night and worried,” Isabel added.

“They returned, we ate breakfast and went off in couples to talk,” Max said.

“We all worked out our problems.” Maria said.

“And?”

“And, Mr. Parker, could I talk to you privately?” Max inquired.

“I’m sure what you have to say can be said here.”

“Yes, sir, but its about what you talked to me about before we left.”

“Oh. Okay, come back to my office then.”

They started to walk off when Max turned around discretely and gave a thumbs-up and a smile.

**In the Office

“Sir, you told me not to let anything happen to Liz.”

“Yes.”

“Well, I’d like to take care of her for the rest of my life.”

“What are you saying?”

“Well…”

**At the table

“Gee, they’ve been gone a long time.” Maria said.

“Maria, it’s only been 10 minutes, counting from the time they left the table to now.” Alex said jokingly.

“I wonder what your dad is gonna say.” Isabel wondered aloud.

**Back at the office

“Well, sir, what I…”

“Out with it.”

“Its difficult to word correctly.”

“Max, what ever is on your mind, just say it.”

“Ok, here goes.”

There was a long pause before Max started again.

“Mr. Parker, I love Liz, with all my heart, and I always have. I guess what I’m asking is that, I’d like to ask for your daughter’s hand in marriage.”

**At the table

“WHAT!?” was heard through the wall.

“I told you!” Alex said.

“Either Max told your dad he’s an alien or your dad freaked!” Isabel speculated.

**In the office

“That’s what you wanted to tell me? That was hard to get out?”

“I was nervous you’d freak out.”

“Well, I hoped that’s what you’d come for.”

Max sighed.

“Of course you can marry Liz, I wouldn’t want anyone else to.”

“Please don’t tell my parents, they don’t know yet.”

“Of course. Do you think she’ll marry you?” Mr. Parker said slyly.

“Yes, I’ve already asked her.” he said sheepishly.

“I know. I saw the ring. Its beautiful.”

Max smiled.

He and Mr. Parker walked out to the Café with huge grins on their faces.

“He said yes!” Maria shouted as she jumped up and grabbed Liz. She did a little circle dance around the table.

“Ms. Deluca! Refrain!” Mr. Parker scolded.

“Yes sir.” And Mr. Parker let out a hearty laugh.

“Now how to tell mom and dad.” Isabel sighed.

TBC—The next part should be out when I come back. You guys better bump my story everyday!! Hope you enjoyed this part.

Here's a reallly short part 12. Sorry it took me so long to crank this out!!

Part 12

"We'll think of something," Max said.

"I can try to help," Mr. Parker said, trying to break the tenseness.

"We can use all the help we can get," Michael mused.

"I had the same problem when I proposed to Liz's mother. I didn't know what to say to my parents. They got upset at first, but then warmed up to the idea."

"It's just that my dad..."

"...doesn't approve of Liz," Mr. Parker finished for him.

"No, he just doesn't like the idea of me with a girl."

"No, its mom, she's overprotective," Isabel offered.

"The best thing to do is just to go up to them and tell them. Then solve the other problems later."

"Really?" Liz asked.

"Yeah, that way, if they yell and scream, you are sorta prepared to deal with it." Mr. Parker said.

"Thanks Mr. Parker, you've helped alot."

"You're welcome, and here's an early welcome to the family."

They all smiled.

TBC
A/N: Now that Mr. Parker knows, can Max tell his parents he's getting married? Will Mrs. Parker be upset when she finds out? Tune in next time for the answers to these questions and more! Hope you enjoy!*angel*

Here's the new part! I think its part twelve but let me make sure. Hope you enjoy.

Part 13~Sorry, I was off one

Mr. and Mrs. Evans woke up Tuesday morning to find their son in the kitchen with a cup of coffee.

His mother ran to him and asked, “What’s wrong honey?”

“Nothing mom, its just that…”

“What son?” his father sighed.

“Well,” Max said as he noticed Isabel sneak around the corner to listen at the door. “I’m getting married,” he continued matter-of-factly.

The look on his parents faces when he said that was simply amazing. Their eyes got big and their jaws dropped to the floor.

Mr. Parker was the first to speak. “You what?”

Mrs. Parker said, “Who? Liz?”

Max nodded.

“Where are you going to live? You don’t have enough money for a house!” his mother accused.

“Engagement ring? Where’d you get the money for that?” his father asked.

“Look, Mom, Dad, Liz and I are in love! We don’t need material things. I’ve been saving my money to get a house. When I get enough, we’ll move. We’ll live apart for a while.”

“Do the Parkers know about that?” his father asked

“I told Mr. Parker everything.”

“And Mrs. Parker?” his mother inquired.

***
Isabel snuck out of the house and over to the Parkers. It was quite easy to do with her parents shouting like they were. As she neared the door she could hear Mrs. Parker yelling at someone. Then Mr. Parker spoke.

“This is not your decision!”

Isabel hurried to ring the bell. Mr. Parker came to the door.

“Isabel! What happened?”

“Mom and Dad didn’t take it too well.”

“Neither did my wife. What happened?”

“They’re grilling him for all this info. Where’d you get the money, the ring, do the Parkers know? Stuff like that. They don’t like the answers they’re getting.” she said quickly without taking a breath.

“Whoa! Breathe! What now?”

“Mom and Dad got really upset.” She said simply.

“Then what?”

“They asked all these questions like: Where will you live, does Mrs. Parker know?

“Oh.”
***

“Well,”

“Well, what son?” his father urged.

“Mr. Parker said he’d tell her. He said she might not react harshly that way.”

“So she doesn’t think it’s a good idea!” His mother exclaimed.

“No, we don’t know that yet.”
***

“Ok, tell Max to put his foot down. Oh, and tell him Mrs. Parker thinks it’s a wonderful idea!” je said smiling.

“Excuse me. I don’t think it’s a good idea.” She said coming in the room drying her hand on a towel.

“You’ll have to get used to it, that’s all there is to it. Liz and Max will marry, period.”

This made Isabel smile a little. She said goodbye and headed home.

TBC
Will Max be able to change their minds? Will Isabel get home in time?

Part 14

"You are not going through with this Maxwell Phillip Evans!" Shouted his mother as she walked out. His father followed suit leaving Max in the kitchen nearly heartbroken.

Just then Isabel snuck back in and heard silence in the kitchen. She walked in to see Max standing there. He looked at her hopefully, almost as if she was his last chance.

She went up to him and gave him a hug "Its okay. I promise. Everything will work out."

"What about Mrs. Parker?" He asked with a tear in his eye and a choke in his voice.

"Mr. Parker straightened it out. He said to be strong and to put your foot down."

"How can I do that?"

"Just tell them you are getting married and there is nothing they can do to stop it." Isabel explained.

"I guess.." Max began. He stopped when he heard the footsteps.

"Shhh, I wasn't here." And she ran to her room.

"Where's Isabel?" His father asked.

"In her room I guess."

"I was just there, she wasn't! Don't lie to me son! Where is she?"

"She went to her room. She was here for a glass juice."

"Don't lie!"

"Isabel!!!! Max screamed.

Isabel came running in and said, "Jeez, don't scream so loud, all you had to do was.. Oh hi dad. I was just in my room."

"Ok thanks honey, you can go now." Isabel walked out.

"Max..."

"Dad, I don'r want to hear about it! Its my decision!" Max said angrily.

"Son, I know, your mother and I are just looking out for you. Making sure you are doing the right thing!"

"Dad, I live Liz, I want to spen the rest of my life with her."

"I know I was the same way about your mother. I just want to make sure you'll be happy. I junderstand that now. This is what you want, Liz wants. I support your decision son."

"You do?" Max said perplexed.

"Yes, You are happy. I can live with that. Just remember I'll love you no matter what happens."

"I'll love you too dad." Max said nearly in tears.

"Now about your mother..." He mumbling while walking out of the room.

This is probably rated PG. Its not that bad.

Part 15

Max was so overjoyed at getting his father's backing, he practically hit the wall when he went for the phone. He picked it up... started to dial, then put it down. He ran to Isabel's room and went in without knocking. Isabel turned around in her bra and underwear and looked horrified.

"God dammit Max! Can't I get dressed in peace?"

"Sorry" he said turning to walk out.

"Wait! You wanted to tell me something." She said as she pulled on a short skirt.

"Are you going out?" Max asked noticing the skirt.

She sat down on the bed still in a bra, what did she care, it was just her brother.

"Yeah, Alex and I are going out later. What did you want to tell me?"

"Dad said he supports the wedding."

"Max, that's great!!" She said enthusiastically.

"Yeah. Thanks Is." He said sullenly and turned to go.

"Wait!" Wahts the matter? You should be happy."

"I am, Its just..." and he left.

Max walked down the hall to his room. He walked to the CD player and turned it on. Counting Crows blasted out while he fell back on his bed. Isabel just shook her head as she heard Counting Crows come through the wall. She instinctively picked up the phone to call Liz. She called home first.

"Hello" A female voice said on the other end.

"Hello Mrs. Parker. This is Isabel. Is Liz in?"

"You've caused enough trouble here young lady. Goodbye!"

CLICK

Isabel thn called the Crash.

"Crashdown."

"Hey Maria! Is Liz there?"

"Oh hey Is, just a sec."

***

"Liz! Phone!"

Liz walked from the table she was serving.

"Who is it?" She said when she reached the counter.

"Its Isabel." Maria stated.

"Is something wrong?"

"I don't know. Ask her."

***

"Hey Is, whats up?" Liz asked in a shaky voice.

"Max doesn't feel well, so he asked me to tell you dad says its ok."

"What's ok, the wedding? Oh!"

"Yeah."

"What about your mom?"

"No luck there yet."

"Oh, whats wrong with Max?"

"He's upset that mom still doesn't support it, I guess."

"Give me 10 mins. I'll be right there."

"Are you sure, what about work?"

"Maria will cover! See you then. Bye!"

Isabel hung up the phone.

***

"What'll I cover?"

"Cover for me for 1/2 please!"

"I have a date with Michael in 15 minutes."

"I owe you big! Thanks Ria!" She said as she left.

"I'm gonna kill her." Maria mumbled.

"Who?"

Maria turned around. No one Mr. Parker."

"Where's Liz?"

"Um, she had to go see Max. He's sick. She promised to be back in a 1/2 hour."

"Ok. I thought you had a date with Michael."

"I did I'll have to cancel."

"Cancel what Blondie?" Michael said jokingly.

"Um Liz'll be back in a 1/2 hour."

"Maria! God, why do you always have to do this?"

"Michael, I'm..."

"I can't wait until she gets back." He said as he pulled her close and kissed her passionately.

"OW!" He said after Maria smacked him on the back of the head.

She just smiled.

***

Liz raced down the street to get to Max. By the time she got to the front door, she was out of breath. Isabel met her there.

"He's in his room with Counting Crows."

"Oh, thats bad."

"When you go in, hurry up the stairs, mom's still in a mood."

"Hey Isabel? Thanks."

Liz raced up the stairs and slipped into Max's room. Max felt someone enter, but didn't want to feel anything so he kept his eyes closed. Liz came up, kissed his forehead and sat on the edge of his bed. Max opened his eyes.

"Liz? What are you doing here?"

"Isabel called me."

He pulled her close to him and kissed her softly on the lips.

"What would I do without you and Isabel?"

"So what's up? What's the matter?"

"Nothing, just one of those moods."

"No, tell me." She said putting her arm around him and scooting closer. "But I only have 20 mins, so talk fast."

Max started laughing. Liz waved her hand and the music shut off.

"You've been practicing?" Max said as a mile wide smile spread across his face.

He wrapped his arm around her pulling her closer still. She could feel the tingle go up her spine as he placed his lips to hers. She put her arms around his neck and just went with the feeling. Soon, he found himself asking for entrance to her mouth. She willingly obeyed. He pulled her closer until she was on top of him.

"Max."

"Liz."

"We have to stop."

"No, we don't."

"I have to get back to work. Another time, okay?"

"Sure, I'll hold you to that." He said placing a final kiss on her lips.

She straighteded her skirt and hair and walked out the door. She exited and Isabel yelled in, "Mom I'm going out with Alex now."

"Ok, honey." COuld softly be heard through the door.

"Give you a ride? We're meeting at the Crash."

"Sure."

After they'd gotten in the car, Liz asked, "Why are you helping out with me and Max so much?"

"Because if I don't Max'll get mad at me. Really. I know you and Max love each other very much and you deserve to be happy."

The rest of the short ride was silent. As Liz got out she said, "Isabel?"

"Yeah?"

"Thanks again."

Liz walked in first as not to arouse suspicion that they came together. Isabel hung back a minute or two before walking in.

***

"Hey, thanks Maria."

"You owe me Parker," Michael said trying to sound mad.

"Soooooooory!!!" Liz said mockingly.

As she said it Michael burst into laughter and Isabel walked in. Alex still wasn't there, so she sat down in a booth and waved to them. Liz came over and asked for her order.

"Just waiting for Alex. Thanks though."

"I'm out chica. See you tomorrow."

"Thanks so much Maria. See you."

"Liz, can I talk to you a minute?"

"Sure dad, give me just a sec."

she put down her order pad and walked to the back.

"What's up?"

"Maria told me where you went."

Liz blushed.

"I don't care that you went. Next time tell me and I'll come out here, instead of being in the back. That way we aren't short a person."

"But," He said a minute later, "don't do it again."

"I won't sir, I promise!"

"Now back to work with you."

Liz left.

I hope she didn't think I was being harsh. I was just joking around. I hope everything works out. I don't know how much I support it, but I think its inevitable and we just have to go with it now, instead of fighting it later. Now I'd better..

"Hey dad?"

"Yeah?"

"Mr. Evans says its ok."

"Thats good sweetie!"

Liz left again.

I'd better get back to paying bills

Well, aren't you all proud of me? I just finished another part. Its not as long as the last one, but I hope it is as good. Thanks for the devotion of my readers. The feedback keeps me going. Here is part 16. A/I and M/M.

Part 16

When Liz came back out, Isabel was still sitting in the booth waiting for Alex.

"Hey Iz, can I get you something?"

"No thanks, He'll be here any second."

"Ok, good luck."

"Thanks"

The bell to the door rang as Liz walked away. Alex came rushing up to Isabel and kissed her cheek.

"I'm so sorry I'm late. Practice ran over and there was an accident just outside of town. Traffic was awful."

"I'm just glad you could make it."

"Where did you wanna go?"

"I don't care really."

"You were supposed to decide."

"I know, I just wanna spend time with you."

"Ok"

"We could go to the mall, we can spend time together, and get shopping done at the same time."

"Sounds good to me."

They got up and walked in the crisp air to Alex's car. The day was beautiful. The air, not to chilly, but cool enough to be comfortable. They had the windows open as they drove down the main street and toward the mall.
Alex parked the car, which happened to be a little bit away from the building. Hand in hand, they made their way into the building. The sun shone brightly throught the skylights as they made their way, still hand in hand, down the corridor of stores.

Suddenly Isabel said, "Its too beautiful a day to be here. Lets go somewhere else."

Alex nearly hit the floor. He'd never heard Isabel say she didn't want to shop.

"Sure, whatever you want. Where you want to go?"

"I dunno, some place quiet."

"Ok"

Michael was driving out of Roswell and toward the desert. Maria sat comfortably in the passanger seat. They were in the Jetta, because Michael still didn't have a car. Maria thought to comment on how fast he was driving in her car, but thought better of it.

"Aren't you going to comment on me driving your car?" he said.

"I thought about it, but then decided I didn't need to."

"Usually you've said something about how unsafely fast I'm going, or..."

"Michael! Stop, look, I love you, you are driving, I don't want to get in an accident, so I'm not saying anything."

"You aren't saying anything? What's up Deluca? You are always saying something."

"Nothing is up."

Luckily, they had arrived at their destination. Michael pulled off the road and reached over to her.

"What's wrong? I'm not stupid Deluca!" He shouted unintentionally.

"God Michael, I didn't want a fight!" She screamed back.

"I'm not fighting. I just want answers."

"I've got nothing to tell!" With that she got out of the car and he followed.

"You didn't talk the whole way here, you are always talking. Something is wrong, What?" he shouted back even louder.

"Michael," she said quietly, "its none of your business."

"Don't do this to me Deluca, let me in! What... There's something wrong!" He shouted again. "Please tell me what's bothering you." He said becoming quieter.

"Why should I?" She said, still hurt.

"Because I hate to see you this way."

He could see she was starting to break down, which meant she'd start poking him, then she'd cry.

"Its none of your damn business! Its my problem." Poke.

Here we go he thought.

"Make it my problem."

"I...I...I can't." She ran out into the desert as fast as she could, crying all the way.

Shit! I've never seen her break down that fast! UHG! She makes me so mad sometimes. Well, wish me luck.
He started to run after her. As he got closer, he could feel her hurt. All of a sudden, the pain was so great he was knocked off his feet!

TBC~I know I'm cruel leaving it there, but I couldn't write anymore, and being sick, and tired, and other stuff like work/school, I figured, every little bit I get out helps take the pressure off.

Part 17

When Alex got Isabel back to the car, he asked her, “What’s the matter Izzy? You love to shop.”

“It just doesn’t feel right to be inside on a day like this. Besides, I have a lot to tell you.” She answered with a smile.

“Hop in, I think I know the perfect place.”

****
In the Evan’s kitchen, Mr. Evans was talking to Mrs. Evans about the wedding.

“Diane! The wedding is going on! You will get over it.”

“I’m not going Phillip! He’ll get married with out his mother then, I’m not going.”

“You’ll go and you’ll enjoy yourself.”

“Get out! Get out!” she screamed sobbing as well, “Out of this house now!”

“I’m going to the office.” He said as he grabbed his keys from the table and walked out.

Max had come down the steps to the sound of yelling. He heard the front door slam and the sound of weeping. He approached his mother quietly; she had her back turned toward him. He put his arm around her and whispered quietly in her ear, “I love you.”

She smiled.

“This is the first time he’s really yelled at you, isn’t it?”

“Second. The first was when we found you two. He didn’t want to keep you at first. Not because he didn’t love you, but because he thought your real parents would find you. We argued for days. Eventually I won, so here you both are. This time I know I can’t win. I know you love Liz. It’s just that I had to fight so hard to keep you the first time; I don’t want to lose you. I love you and Isabel very much. You’ll always be my babies.”

“Mom, you aren’t losing me. I’ll still be here in Roswell, not to far either, I’ve been looking at a house real close, halfway between here and the Crashdown. It’s a good deal, it needs a couple of fixes, but it’s worth it. And I promise to come visit and you are welcome any time.”

“I know. So when is the wedding?”

“Well, we can’t decide that until Mrs. Parker decides she’ll let Liz get married. Mr. Parker tries, but its not working,” he laughed.

“Maybe a little woman to woman talk might help.”

“Thanks mom, I appreciate it.”

****
Michael tried to pick himself off the desert floor. He saw Maria lying on the ground about 20 feet away. She wasn’t moving. He couldn’t feel anything from her either. He pulled himself along by his hands until he reached her. He tried to connect, but he failed.

MAX!” He shouted at the top of his lungs.

Max jumped back against the wall in the kitchen. His mother looked concerned.

“What’s the matter?”

“Nothing, Michael must be thinking about me. I just heard him yell, that was weird.” he said, half lying. “I gotta go, I’m gonna be late for work.”

“Ok, sweetie, drive carefully.”

“I have to walk, Isabel took the Jeep.”

He walked out the front door, grabbing his keys on the way. He ran from there to the Crashdown for the Jeep. He hightailed it out toward the desert. Soon, Sheriff Valenti was behind him. He pulled over. The sheriff got out of the car.

“You know you were speeding.”

“Sheriff, Michael and Maria are in trouble in the desert, if I don’t get there now, I don’t know what will happen. All I know is that Michael is hurt.”

“Folks been getting mad at me, not pulling you over. Let me go with you, I can always call for an ambulance.”

“Thanks.”

Valenti got back in his car and they sped away.

Michael had managed to finally connect to Maria. He searched for something wrong. He found nothing. She was alive, breathing, just not moving. She wasn’t sleeping, but he thought she’d passed out. He heard 2 cars stop just about where the Jetta was. He watched Max and the Sheriff walk toward him.

“She’s ok, just passed out.”

“How are you?”

”Well my lower back to my feet is killing me, I think I’m paralyzed.”

“Let me see.”

He connected. “No, you just pulled your vertebrae out of line, and pulled a muscle. You should be ok in a couple of days. I realigned you.”

“Thanks.”

“What happened?”

“Well, we got in a fight. She broke down really quickly. She ran off. When I got close to her, this huge blast of energy hit me and threw me backward. I woke up, couldn’t move, and called you. What’s the sheriff doing here?”

“Um, he pulled me over for speeding.”

“Oh” he said before he fell back.

“You ok?”

“Yeah, just tired of holding myself up. How are we gonna get sleeping beauty outta here? On second thought, how’m I gonna get up?”

“The sheriff and I will carry Maria to my car. We’ll come back and get you.”

“The Jetta?”

“I’ll drive to Amy’s and we’ll come back and pick it up.” Valenti said.

“Sounds good.” Michael said.

A few minutes passed as they got Maria to Max’s back seat.

“Will you be able to walk if we get you up?” Max asked, concerned.

“I can try.”

They got Michael to he feet. He walked slowly and painfully, but with Max and Valenti’s help he got to the Jeep.

“I was thinking. Amy’ll freak if Maria is hurt, I can drive back.”

“NO!” They both said at the same time.

“I can get Kyle to do it, or Max?”

“I’m late for work already, Kyle won’t mind. Thanks for your help sheriff.”

“No problem.”

Michael got in the back seat and propped Maria up on his arm. He held her close.

“Where am I dropping you?” Max asked as he started the car.

“My place.”

“K.”

Max helped them get to the couch. Michael put the TV on as Max said goodbye and left. Michael turned the volume on the TV down a little. He’d sat there for two hours with the TV on. Maria still wasn’t awake. He tried to connect again, this time a bright flash of light blinded Michael and he blacked out.

***
A few days before, just after the camping trip.

Michael tried and tried to heal the lifeless body that lay before him. The more he tried, the weaker he got. There was so much blood from both of them. The grass was stained red. Finally, Maria opened her eyes. She mouthed ‘I love you’ just before Michael collapsed. Nobody could help him, he’d died to save her.

Maria sat up quickly in bed, realizing the realness of her dreams, she wiped the tears from her eyes. She kept the dream to herself, she didn’t even tell Liz.

***
Michael’s house, present time

Maria opened her eyes, she’d had that dream again. When her eyes focused she realized she was in Michael’s house. She looked to the right to see Michael sprawled a funny way on the couch. She tried to wake him. He wouldn’t budge. She felt as if she was living that dream. Next, she did the strangest thing, she didn’t panic and put her hands on Michael’s head. The connection was instantaneous. She worked her way through his body, looking for damage, at first the only thing she saw was his injured back. Being inexperienced, she couldn’t feel his heart, or see his lungs moving. She began crying, upset at the thought of him being dead. A tear fell on his face. Michael began to stir. Still connected, Maria could feel his pulse and see his lungs moving. She saw signs of a slight concussion, now healed, which had caused him only to black out.

“You are awake!” Michael said suddenly, wiping her tears. He continued, ‘What’s the matter?”

“I thought you had died. You just hit your head and blacked out.”

“Oh, are you ok?” he said, attempting to connect again, this time it was much easier. He scanned her quickly for signs of damage. He found none. “What happened out in the desert before?”

”I don’t know, I was running away, then I was having this recurring dream I’ve been having lately.”

“Tell me about the dream.”

“Its not important.”

“It might be! Please?”

“Ok, well, I’m watching you heal me. There’s all this blood coming from both of us. We’re in the grass. I can only see us, nothing else is clear. You start getting weak. The dying me wakes up says I love you as you fall back, dead, then I don’t know. I had it quite a few times since I fell asleep.”

“Maybe that’s why you screamed. I don’t know how long you were down before I came up over the hill. Maybe you screamed at me dying, then I was hit with the energy, I don’t know. I think this is a problem for Max.”

“Michael!”

“We have to figure it out, I want everything to be ok. He can help.”

“You are right. We’ll tell him.”

TBC~I didn’t expect to write that. Well, now that part is out, only a few more left. Can’t wait for the next part. Its very good. FB then you’ll get your new part!!

The long awaited Chapter 18!

Chapter 18

Max picked up the phone on the second ring.
'Hello'

'Maxwell?'

'Micheal?'

'We have a problem.'

'Ok'

'Maria and I need to meet with you.'

'Ok, I'll get the group together.'

'Um, no, just the three of us. Its about what happened in the desert.'

'What happened in the desert? Did you figure it out?'

"Its not something I want to talk about over the phone, just meet us here. 7 oclock my place."

"ok."

"Bye"

"By...*click*...e."

***

Alex drove back toward Roswell. Of corse he knew the perfect place. They could do anything there. Sit, walk, whatever. He parked the car about a block away and got out.

"Where are we going?" asked Isabel.

"You'll see"

They walked until the came to the park. Alex gently grabbed Isabel's hand to guide her through the people. He took her to a remote part of the park where no one ever went. There he found his favorite Maple tree. He climbed up the branches and held down his hand for Isabel. She willingly took it, completely trusting. THey sat together on one of the thicker branches and held each other.

***

Diane dialed the Parker's home number.

"Hello."

"Hello, it's Diane."

"Diane? I haven't spoken to you in ages! What can I do for you?"

"I was wondering if we could talk about Max and Liz?"

"I don't really want to discuss that."

"They are our children, Nancy. We've been friends a long time, can't we just talk about it?"

"No."

"I know you love, Liz, because I love both of my children. And I also know you don't want to lose her. You won't lose her. They'll still be here."

"Its not as if I don't love Max. I just don't think she's ready."

"I'm sure she's ready. It's you who's not. Let her go. It's time."

"I can't, she's my baby."

"Everything will turn out fine. You rememver when you didn't want to let her date because you were afraid she'd get pregnant or something? She dated Kyle, then Max. That turned out ok, this will too."

"Maybe you are right. I love Max, and he's the best thing that ever happened to Liz. Our families are so close, they might as well be one."

"I'll see you at the wedding then?"

"Yes, you will."

"Bye now, Nancy."

"Goodbye Diane."

***

Knock, knock

Michael went to open the door. On the other side stood Max.

"Ok," he said, "tell me about this situation."

Maria started what transpired earlier that day. She finished 1/2 hour later.

"Well," Max said, "I don't know what to tell you about the dream. About later with Michael blacking out, well, I can't tell about that either. Just seems as if the bond between you two has gotten stronger and, if it happens again, remember to think logically."

"That was a real help Maxwell" A callous sounding Michael blurted.

"Sorry, I've never dealt with something like that before."

"Its ok, Max, Michael just thought you might be able to give us a clue, that's all. Thanks for your help."

"Anytime, I've got to get home now, see you later."

TBC
Sorry It's so short, its all I had time for. Next time, we'll find out what Liz & Max will do with the go ahead for the wedding, what happens W/A & I in the tree, and maybe what goes on w/maria's dreams
