|Title: To Start Again|
Rating: PG thru R for language, violence, and sexual situations
Disclaimer: The only character I own is Aja Moore, or anyone else in this story that hasn’t ever been featured in the show, Roswell.
Category: Max/Liz, Michael/Maria, Kyle/Aja, and Isabel/Jessie
Summary: Starts right during the last half-hour of Departure. I want to fix things my way and being the dreamer I am; it’s defiantly going to be positive for Max and Liz. Also, this is going to totally rewrite season 3 and then kind of go off on it’s own wings. Also, Tess is still evil.
Authors Note: Nope, Truth is a Whisper is not going to be ignored, incase you’re wondering. Also, I don’t remember the dialogue from Departure, so I’m going to do my own thing.
Liz sat on Maria’s bed, staring at the ceiling, dry tears forming on her face. “I can’t believe he’s really gone.” She said softly to Maria, who was lying next to her.
“I know. God, I just wish that I would of never known Michael Guerin. My life would have been a lot easier.”
“And a lot emptier.” Liz finished quietly.
Maria nodded silently. “Yea, I guess.”
Liz choked back a sob. “I’m just glad I had a chance to get to know and to love Max Evans.”
“Stop it! Let go of my daughter!” Maria and Liz rose from her bed quickly and looked at each other questionably. A crash could be heard from the kitchen and they ran towards it.
“Mom?” Maria asked her mother, who stood in front of the broken dish and tapping her fingers on the counter next to her.
“Hey Maria, hey Liz.” Amy DeLuca turned towards them and smiled. “I guess the plate just slipped from my fingers, no need to worry about me.”
“Are you sure you’re okay mom?” Maria asked.
“Yea, yea.” Amy answered; she began to tap the counter top more rapidly. “I’m great.”
Liz stared hypnotically at Amy’s fingers. Something began to click in the back of her mind. Suddenly it all flashed in front of her, Alex tapping on his guitar, Kyle tapping on the table at the Crashdown.
Wide-eyed she grabbed Maria’s arm and pulled her back to her room and closed the door.
“What’s wrong Liz?” Maria asked, scared by her friend’s behavior.
“The tapping!” Liz exclaimed.
“What?” Maria asked, confused.
“We have to go to Kyle.” Liz stated and ran from the room, Maria on her heels. They got in the car and Maria began driving towards the Valenti household. Once there, they didn’t bother to knock as Liz opened the door and ran inside Kyle’s bedroom, finding him lying down on his bed.
He jumped off the bed. “What? What’s wrong?”
“Kyle, I think Tess was mind warping you.” Liz stated. She heard Maria gasp behind her and Kyle looked at her puzzled.
“What makes you think that?” He asked, tapping on the wall next to where he was standing.
Realization came over Maria’s features. “Liz, my mom.”
Liz nodded. “I know. And Alex. He was doing the same thing.”
“Doing what?” Kyle asked them, clearly perturbed by their behavior. “What the hell are you two talking about?”
“Kyle, Tess had to of mind warped you. Maria’s mom was doing the tapping thing earlier, and so was Alex, right before he died. Tess had something to do with it.”
“That’s crazy-” He stopped talking when he touched the sides of his long mirror. He gasped, flashes over coming him.
“Why are you doing this to me?” Alex sobbed to a worried looking Tess.
Kyle looked on, standing by the door of his room. “What’s going on?”
“Alex, I-I’m sorry, just let me fix it!” Tess cried.
“No!” Alex held his head in his hands. “No more! No More mind games, no more!”
“What is he talking about?” Kyle asked, walking closer to them.
“Shut up!” Tess screamed. She closed her eyes, preparing to make Alex forget everything when he began screaming. A second later he fell to the floor, dead.
Kyle ran towards Alex body. “What did you do to him? He’s dead!”
Tess focused on Kyle and made him believe that he was holding a luggage.
“I’ll help you move this to the car.” Kyle said, no hint of terror in his voice, which had been there only seconds earlier.
“Oh God.” Kyle said, breaking out of his trance.
“What is it?” Liz asked him.
“Tess killed Alex.”
Maria sobbed and Liz’s eyes hardened. “We have to get to the pod chamber.” Liz stated and began running back to Maria’s car. Maria and Kyle followed her.
“Go.” She told Maria. Maria sped down towards the dessert. No one in the car noticed the white car following them.
The rode in silence, thinking about what they had just learned, from time to time, Liz would shake in anger. She couldn’t believe Tess would go so far as to kill her best friend. She wanted to kill her with her own hands.
“Go faster Maria.” Liz stated.
Ten minutes later, they were there. They ran out the car doors and were only stopped by the realization that they wouldn’t be able to open the pod chamber door. They pounded on the door, hoping someone would here them.
“This is pointless!” Kyle shouted in frustration.
“No it’s not.” They heard a voice say behind them, a pretty girl with long black hair who was no older than Liz, Maria, and Kyle stepped forward from behind a rock.
“Who are you?” Kyle asked, shielding her from Liz and Maria.
“Does it really matter?” She asked. “Tess is going to hand Max, Michael, and Isabel over to Khivar. I don’t think who I am should be on the top of your agenda.” She turned towards Liz. “Open the door.” She demanded.
“I can’t.” Liz stated bitterly.
The girl rolled her eyes, remembering that they didn’t know who they were. “Just try.”
Liz stared at her, trying to see if she could really trust this strange girl. “Who are you?”
“Aja. Now listen, in 10 minutes the Granolith is going to take off and Max, Michael, and Isabel will be sent to their deaths. Now open the door.” Aja stated firmly.
Liz looked at Maria and Kyle, who nodded their heads. She turned towards the pod chamber door and put her hands on the silver handprint. The door opened.
“How did I do that?” Liz asked, awed.
“No time for that. Let’s go.” Aja answered. They all filed into the chamber.
Hearing the door open, Max, Michael, and Isabel ran forward to the chamber door to see the intruders.
“Who are you?!” Max and Michael shouted at the same time. Aja didn’t bother to answer. She pushed passed everyone and ran towards the Granolith where Isabel and Tess were.
“Tess.” Aja said.
Tess turned pale as she saw Aja standing there. She stood up, “How did you get in here?”
Aja ran forward and slammed Tess down, pinning Tess beneath her. “Break the mind warp Tess, break it.”
“Get off of her!” Max screamed as they reentered the granolith chamber. Aja raised her hand and trapped her and Tess in a bright pink shield.
“Break the mind warp Tess, I’m warning you.”
“Get off of me! You’re hurting my baby!” Tess cried.
Aja put her hands on Tess’s stomach. “Well fuck me.” She said quietly. “You are really pregnant.”
“No shit Sherlock!” Tess screamed. “Now get off! You’re going to kill the heir!”
Aja smirked. “Sure. Listen sweetie, the king can only impregnate the true queen, and you my dear are no queen.”
Michael and Max were trying desperately to break the shield around Tess and Aja.
“Break the mind warp Tess or I’ll kill you. Baby or no baby.”
Tess sighed in annoyance and defeat. “Fine.”
“I’m going to put the shield down and you’re going to break the mind warp.”
Tess nodded. “I fucking got it, okay?”
Aja stared at her and slowly, the shield disappeared and Tess closed her eyes, breaking the warp she had over Max. Max fell to the floor, unconscious.
“Max!” Liz called. She ran forward and leaned down next t his body, checking for a pulse, once she found one she breathed a sigh of relief.
Michael grabbed Aja’s arms and pulled her off of Tess. “What are you doing?”
“Saving you, dumb ass.”
“Tess killed Alex!” Maria shouted from where she and Kyle were hiding.
Michael dropped Aja’s arms and advanced on Tess. “What?” Isabel followed Michael. “You killed Alex?” She asked quietly and with venom.
“I didn’t kill Alex!” Tess shouted.
“You’re lying!” Kyle countered. “I remember it now. I broke from the mind warp and now I remember that you mind warped Alex to death.”
Isabel reached forward and slapped Tess across the face. “Tell me the truth bitch.”
“Fine! Fine, I killed that little twerp. But only because I needed the translation, what do you guys care anyway? He was just a human.”
Aja ran towards Kyle and Maria. “Get out of here, okay? She may try something and you have to be out of the crossfire.” She pointed to wear Max and Liz was. “Help Liz drag Max out of here too, okay?”
Kyle and Maria looked at each other and then nodded to Aja. They moved quickly and Aja went to back Michael and Isabel.
“You deserve to die Tess.” Aja said. “But that baby doesn’t. Tell me, who is the father anyways?”
“What are you talking about?” Michael asked.
“The King can only impregnate the real Queen. Tess doesn’t fit that description.”
“Who is the queen?”
“Liz. And I know that because she opened the chamber door. Only the king and queen can do that.” Aja responded.
Before anyone could respond to that news the granolith began to shake furiously.
“There’s only one minute left.” Isabel shouted.
“Isabel, get out of here and make sure everyone’s okay.” Michael ordered. Isabel nodded and shot one more death glare towards Tess before leaving.
“Who’s the father?” Michael asked.
“Kyle is. Mind warped him.” Tess answered, slightly bored. She was thinking rapidly.
“And you killed Alex.” Aja said with disgust. “If I knew what you were up to I would of worked harder to save him.”
Tess grinned evilly. “Too late.” Before anyone could blink, Tess touched the glass of the granolith and appeared inside of the granolith.
“What the hell!” Michael shouted.
“I.” Tess began to trace on the granolith windows with the heavy smoke. “Win.”
The ground of the chamber began to shake as the granolith began to take off. Michael pushed Aja towards the exit. “Go!” He shouted.
They ran to the exit and out the chamber doors and to the cars where the rest were waiting. Once there, they all stopped and stared as the granolith took off.
“Shit.” Aja stated. “She got away.”
“What wrong with Max?” Liz asked as he held his shaking body down.
Aja looked at them “He’s remembering things. He has been mind warped for the past year, so he’s going to be like that for awhile.”
Aja looked inside of her white convertible. “He should be able to fit in here. We can go to my apartment and he can stay there. I don’t think his parents would want to see him this way without taking him to the doctors.”
Isabel gasped. “Oh God, we left a tape for our parents. We have to get there before they find it!”
“I can take you there.” Maria stated.
“Okay, let’s go.” Isabel said, and Kyle followed them into the car. “Protect Max and Liz!” Isabel shouted before Maria took off.
Liz, Michael and Aja stared at each other before Aja walked to the driver’s seat of her car.
Things were going to get a lot more difficult.
I'll continue this if people like it

Aja stopped her car in front of Michael’s apartment complex.
“What are we doing here?” Michael asked her curiously, from the seat next to her. “I thought we were going to your apartment.”
“I live here too.” Aja replied simply. She got out the car and opened the back door to where Max and Liz were. Her eyes softened as she saw Liz running her hands through Max’s hair. Finally, the true king and queen were reunited. “Is he going to be okay?” She heard Liz ask.
Aja nodded. “He’ll be fine.”
Michael and Liz each put one of Max’s arms over their shoulders and followed Aja, who was leading them towards her apartment, which was on the very top floor.
She opened the door and Michael and Liz gasped. The apartment was spacey and airy and it was decorated nicely. It looked a lot better than Michael’s place.
“Put him on my bed.” Aja said as she led them towards her room. Once there, they laid Max on her bed. Liz instinctively stayed by his side.
Aja turned towards Michael. “Let’s leave them alone.” Michael nodded and they left the room, closing the door behind them and went into the kitchen. They sat in the kitchen table, not knowing what to say.
“Do you want juice, or pop, or something?” Aja asked, breaking the silence.
Michael shook his head. “No, it’s okay.” He paused and looked at her, feeling a sense of familiarity towards her. “Who are you?” He asked.
“We should wait until the others arrive before we discuss this, okay?” Aja asked.
“Sure. But we should call Isabel’s cell and tell them where to come. Can I use your phone?” Michael asked.
Aja reached into her purse, which was next to her, and pulled out her cell phone and handed it to Michael. “Cell phones are harder to trace. Be my guest.”
Michael took the phone from her hands and dialed Isabel’s cell phone number. “Isabel?” he asked when someone answered.
“Michael! Where are you?” Isabel asked frantically. “We were able to get the tape before my parents saw it, Thank God.” She continued before waiting for him to answer.
“I’m at Aja’s place.” Michael answered.
“Where is it?”
“It’s the top level on the apartment building I live in. Room 712.”
“Okay.” Isabel responded. “We’ll be there in two minutes. She hasn’t done anything suspicious, has she? How is Max?”
Michael shook his head. “No, she hasn’t. Max is still in his coma-like position.” He answered before hanging up.
They sat, not knowing what to say. Michael looked towards the table, occasionally glancing at Aja. Normally, he would have been more aggressive with a stranger, but somehow, he knew this mysterious girl.
Five minutes later, the doorbell rang. “That’s probably the others at the door.” Aja said. She got up and went to the door, Michael at her heels. Aja opened the door and sure enough, Isabel, Kyle, and Maria were at the other side. She stepped to the side to let them inside the apartment and closed the door.
“Where’s Max?” Isabel asked frantically, worried for her brother.
“He’s in my room.” Aja answered. She motioned for them to follow her and she led them to her room. She opened the door slowly and Liz looked up. “You have to explain what’s going on.” Liz said once she caught Aja’s eyes.
“I know.” Aja responded. “Make yourselves comfortable. It’s kind of a long story.” She told them and Michael, Kyle, Maria, and Isabel each found a place to sit in her medium sized room.
Aja stood in the center of the room. “I’m Aja Moore, I’m from Oakland, California, I’m 17, and I’m human.” She said.
“What?” Liz asked. “Then how do you have those powers? How did you know what to do?”
Aja raised her hands to stop the questions. “Everything about me is human, my blood, my fluids, everything. The only thing that isn’t human is my essence. My essence was an alien from Antar named Raina.”
“How come you weren’t with us?” Michael asked. “When we all broke free from the pods?”
Aja sighed. “My story is different from yours. Yes, I was part of the royal family, but I wasn’t really up there, you know? I was kind of like a countess.” She took a deep breath. “You four were made in a hurry. The project was barely done by the time you were sent to down to live on earth, so there were some flaws. Like, blood for instance. Your blood is only alien because there wasn’t enough time for the scientist to figure out how to change the blood by the time because you were killed. An essence can only last for so long before it can never be restored.” She paused, and looked at all of their faces, all of them watching her intently. “You guys follow me?”
They all nodded and she proceeded with her story. “So, when the scientists had all the kinks worked out they began making more hybrids who can be more compatible on earth and blend in more easily.”
“And now you come to us? Why not sooner?” Maria couldn’t stop herself from asking Aja.
“Because I only found out a year ago. I had no idea that I was a hybrid. Sure I’ve had those strange dreams, but I just thought they were dreams and nothing more. I had no idea that I was…alien.” Aja responded. “It wasn’t until Nasedo found me and told me everything. I didn’t believe him at first, but then he showed me his powers and told me I had them too. I wasn’t going to come anyways, but then something…happened. So I packed up my bags and came here.”
“What happened?” Michael asked her.
Aja gripped her hands hard and fought the tears she knew would be coming. “My parents died in a car accident.” She said softly. “My brother thinks I was in the car too and he can’t know otherwise.”
“Where is your brother?” Michael asked.
“In the army. He’s 22 years old.” She took a deep breath and smiled fore fully. “So now here I am. I’ve been watching you all for a few months, but mostly Tess. I knew Tess wasn’t the real deal, but I had to find out what she was up too before I could make a move. Tess is powerful…really powerful. Alex’s death was a shock because I had no idea to watch him because he was always away. I didn’t know he was being mind warped, if I knew he was, I would have worked quicker to save him.” She looked at them. “I’m sorry.”
Liz shook her head. “It’s not your fault. We all should have noticed that Alex was acting different, but we didn’t.” Liz looked over at Max before looking up at Aja again. “How come I opened the pod chamber door?”
“You’re the queen Liz.” Aja answered simply.
“But-but how am I the queen? I’m human.” Liz said.
Aja thought for a moment. “Nasedo said that there was something wrong with one of the aliens when the crash happened. He tried to reseal the pod, because there was a hole in it and put the pods in a cave. He was finally able to come back to the cave in the ‘80s and he noticed that the defected pod still wasn’t doing good, it wasn’t developed more than a one month old fetus, so he did the only thing he thought he could do. He put the small fetus into a young woman. The woman’s name was Nancy Parker. That’s why you don’t have alien blood, or anything. Being in a human’s womb stopped a lot of the alien in you from developing.”
Liz and the others gasped. “Why didn’t Nasedo tell me any of those things before he died?”
Aja gave her a funny look. “Nasedo’s not dead.”
“What do you mean Nasedo’s not dead? Max saw his body go into dust with his own two eyes last August.” Liz countered.
Aja shook her head. “Nasedo was training me last August. He couldn’t have been in Roswell…” Aja stopped talking. “Of course. Tess. It must have been a mind warp.”
Michael shook his head. “But how would Tess be able to mind warp all seven us for so long? She’s powerful, yea, but can someone really be that powerful?”
“I don’t know.” Aja responded while shrugging her shoulders. “Wait, I do know. There were two protectors. But Nasedo said that the other one was killed.”
“Ava.” Liz whispered.
“The duplicate, Tess’s duplicate. If Tess wasn’t the real queen, then what’s the deal with Ava?”
“The deal with Ava was that Khivar really knew how to cover his tracks. Ava and Khivar were brother and sister. Of course!” Aja exclaimed. “Khivar sent Ava and Tess down because he knew that you three had dupes.”
“Then where is my dupe?” Liz asked, frustrated.
“They didn’t have time to make yours. It was on their agenda, but there wasn’t enough time.”
Liz nodded. “Fine.”
“Hey, I have a question.” Maria said, slightly raising her hands. “Why isn’t your name Serena?”
Liz and Aja blanched, but for two different reasons. “How do you know about Serena?” Aja asked.
Maria looked pointedly at Liz. “I think it’s time you tell them.”
“Tell us what?” Kyle asked.
Liz looked at all of them and took a deep breath. “Here goes nothing…” she went into her long discussion of what took place October 2001. When she finished she saw everyone was looking at her with sympathy, except for Aja, who looked angry.
“That girl is good.” Aja stated. “Listen to me Liz, if you ever meet someone named Serena, run the other way and fast.”
“Why? Why should we even be trusting you?” Liz asked, her voice rising with anger.
Aja shrugged. “You just know. That future stuff you were talking about? It’s absolute crap. The Granolith can do anything short of time travel. Mind games again…it always points back to Tess. I’m just sorry that you had to go through that, and it wasn’t even real.” They stared at each other for a minute before Liz looked back down at Max.
“What’s happening to him? How long will he be like this?”
“Out of all of you, Max had been mind warped the most. The amount of games Tess was playing on his head would have killed him, if he had been human. Now, he’s just trying to separate fact from fiction. He’ll probably be like that for the next week.”
“What am I supposed to say to my parents?” Isabel asked.
“Make something up. Say he skipped town for a few weeks. Something that they will believe.”
“So, is Tess and him real…?” Liz asked quietly. No one had to ask what she meant, because they all knew she was referring to the sex.
Aja sighed. “I honestly don’t know. If they did have sex, then it couldn’t of been consensual. Tess had to have played some kind of mind game with him. The thing is, Max always knew that Tess was evil, but he couldn’t break out of the mind warp long enough to tell any of you.” She rubbed her eyes. “Tess really is pregnant, but it can’t be Max’s because Max can only impregnate the queen, his true love. Before she left, she told Michael and I who the father was.”
“Who is the father?” Isabel asked them.
Michael and Aja’s eyes instinctively turned towards Kyle. “She said she mind warped you.” Michael provided when he saw Kyle’s shocked look.
Kyle stood up quickly. “So Tess is out there somewhere, with my son?”
Aja nodded. “Pretty much.”
“How do we find her?” Kyle asked, bordering on hysterics. “I can’t believe she would do that to me, I can’t believe it.”
Maria stood and put her hands on his shoulder. “Slow down Kyle. I’m sorry that Tess has your son, but she screwed us all over.” She looked at her watch. “I have to go before my mom starts sending out the search dogs. I’ll drop you off Kyle and you can tell your dad what we learned.” She turned towards Isabel. “You need a ride Isabel?”
Isabel nodded and stood up. “Yea.”
“I’ll stay here,” Michael added. “I want to make sure Max is okay for the night.”
“I will too.” Liz said. “Maria, I’ll say I stayed over your house?”
Maria nodded. “Of course.”
Once everyone left, it was just Aja, Michael, and Liz again. Aja moved to pull a cot out of her closet. “You can sleep on that Michael, and Liz, you can share the bed with Max. I’ll stay on the couch, is that okay?”
Michael and Liz nodded. “It’s fine.” Liz answered.
Aja left to the living room and sat on the couch, watching TV as she fell into a deep sleep. The only deep sleep she’s had in a year.
Hum, so why does Michael recognize Aja? Can Aja really be trusted? Did Max and Tess really have sex? I can’t promise that those answers will be answered in the next part, but they will be answered. Also, for those who didn’t look at the picture of “Aja”. It was a picture of Aaliyah (God rest her soul), who is image I’m using for Aja. Feedback please!
