Title: Dancing in the Dark
Author: me
Category: M/L AU ; there's some mild NC-17
Summary: Read and find out
A/N: This is just something that popped into my head and I wrote it down. It's just one part though I'm thinking about turning it into a fic. This is my first time posting and I'm a little nervous. I hope it's ok. Feedback would be great.

She walked through the woods briskly, her heart pounding faster and faster with every step she took. It was dangerous to be here, everyone knew it, and yet, she had dared to come anyway. And for what? For something even she barely understood herself and could never explain to others. It was calling her to come. She felt it deep within her soul, a beckoning that could not be ignored. So here she was in the middle of the night, traveling alone to a place where
few had dared to tread before.

She whipped around suddenly, swearing she had felt something behind her. However there was nothing to be seen and so she continued on her way towards her destination. She couldn’t believe she was doing this. It was so unlike her, so uncharacteristic. And yet it was her. In some inexplicable way, she knew she knew she wanted this. This was who she was.

The day had started out simple enough. When she woke up this morning she never would have guessed she would end up here. It seemed like such a typical day in her ordinary life. The same dull routine as ever, nothing special. But somehow the day had spiraled from ordinary to extraordinary, typical to anything but, routine to unpredictable. All leading to this.

It seemed the woods were never ending. She wondered how much farther she had to go before she reached her destination.

The wind was cool and deathly calm. It seemed like death was definitely in the air. Why have I come here?-she thought to herself and she continued to walk down the path.

Finally she saw it. There was no missing it. It stood silently here among the darkness of the trees and the earth. Alone. Mysterious. Dangerous. For a moment she faltered, unsure if she wanted to go in, for she knew what awaited once she stepped inside. So she
stopped right outside and stared. This was it. The defining instant that would change her life. Too late to go back now. Taking one last deep breath she pressed onward pushing the doors open. She had crossed the point of no return.

It was pitch black inside. She could see nothing, hear nothing. Cautiously she kept moving forward in the darkness with only this feeling inside of her urging her to move. After walking for what felt like an eternity she stopped. She looked all around her though she could see nothing. She began to breathe heavily until she felt a pair of strong arms wrap around her which silenced her sounds.

“You came” a seductive voice whispered in her ear.
“Of course I did” she said trying to muster any courage she could find within her. She wasn’t about to let him think he had intimidated her- the fact that he actually had was beside the point. He didn’t need to know this.
“Well, well, well. Will wonders never cease” he said in a mocking voice. He spun her around. She still couldn’t see anything. But she could certainly feel him- how close his body was to hers. Why did I come here?
"Come with me." He grabbed her hand and began walking briskly in the dark. How he could see anything was beyond her guess.

Suddenly she heard a door open. When she stepped inside, she finally saw light, a whole room of it. It was a magnificently decorated room, drenched in striking colors and filled with objects ancient and old. In the center of the room was a large canopy bed with black satin sheets that stood as an interesting contrast to the rest of the room.

He continued to move forward and came to halt at the edge of the bed. She permitted herself to look into his eyes. They were full and intense. He too was looking at her straight in the eye. She began to feel uncomfortable under his scrutinizing gaze and started shifting all around. He laughed at her.

“Poor little angel. Beginning to regret your decision tonight”, he said it as a challenge and she knew it. He was trying to call her bluff, but she would show him.
“No”, she said forcefully still staring him dead in the eye.
“Good”, he replied “because it’s too late to change your mind now. You must know that”. Did she know that? Yes, she supposed she knew this from the start of when she had chosen this course. Funny how everything can change in a single day.

He suddenly crushed his mouth to hers. At first her instinct was to push him away but then she was swept up in a sea of emotions she had never experienced before. It was enticing. She found herself returning the passionate kiss, putting her arms around him, pushing their bodies closer together- if that was even possible.

She felt him begin to undress her. She jerked back automatically. He looked at her with question in her eyes and then approached her again, taking her in his arms. “Isn’t this what you came here for? Isn’t this what you wanted?” Was it?

He started to undress her again. This time she put up no resistance. She saw a small smile escape from his lips. He knew he had won. That she had surrendered to him.
“Don’t be afraid”, he said.

She realized she was naked. She wanted to cover herself, to hide herself from his sight. He shook his head. “You don’t ever need to be ashamed. You are magnificent.” She then relaxed against him, letting him take the lead for she had no idea what to do next. He would have to show her.

He lifted her to the bed and at once began to undress himself. She lay there unmoving, not knowing what she should do, waiting for him. Finally he was naked on the bed as well. Her eyes became wide as she looked upon him- all of him for the first time. He smiled at the expression on her face and bent down to kiss her again.

He kissed her. She kissed him. Over and over. She had never felt anything like this before. His hands roamed up and down the sides of her body and eventually she too found enough boldness to touch him back. She had never been so alive before. She wanted this.

He was intoxicated by her, everything she was. He still couldn’t believe he was actually here with her, that she had actually come. Oh how he had hoped she would dare to come. How he had desperately hoped she was different from the rest, that she would be brave enough to come here. He had wanted her so desperately for so long. And now she was here-with him. And now that he had her, he would never let her go. She would be his one way or another. No matter the price.

She couldn’t believe these sensations. She didn’t think it could get any better than this. And then he looked at her. She looked at him, questioning in her eyes as she felt him spread her legs. This was it. She didn’t know much but she knew that this was it.

Slowly he pushed inside her. It felt like heaven to him.

She felt him enter her. She thought she would faint.

He had to remind himself to go slowly, not to hurt her.

She had no idea it would be like this.

He was almost there.

She felt a pinch inside her. She cried out in pain.

He heard her and kissed her gently. He was finally fully inside her.

It was so strange to her. Painful but yet......

He began to see she was starting to adjust to him.

She began to feel slightly better.

He stared at her.

She stared at him.

He began to slowly move inside her.

She clung to him.

Together they slowly but surely began to build a rhythm as their bodies became one, joined in unimaginable ecstasy.

Faster and faster he thrust into her.

She felt she was about to explode inside.

He knew he was coming soon.

And then together, they both crashed into a oblivion as an earth shattering climax came over them. He fell on top of her and then rolled over bringing her to him. Contentedly she rested her head in his chest. She was tired and was about to drift off to sleep when she heard his voice again.

“Why did you come here”. She didn’t move from his chest. Didn’t even glance at him. She couldn’t. Not after all that had happened.
“You know why” was all she answered.
“Do I?”, he said questioningly.
“Yes you do know”, she replied back.
“I suppose I do”.

Silence. For a moment neither of them said anything more.

“So what happens now?”
“I don’t know”
“You know you have to make a choice”
“I know”
“You can’t just go back to your simple little life”
“I know”
“And quite honestly I don’t think you want to go back anyway”
“I know”
“So what happens now?”
“You tell me”

“All right I will. There are things that exist that most people will never know about. They wouldn’t be able to handle it if they knew anyway. There are things so dark, yet so exciting, that it stirs your very soul. I can show you these things and more-if you want me to. But you have to tell me so. Do you want this Liz. Do you want what I can give you? A world beyond dreams, beyond nightmares, beyond your wildest imagination. Do you want to leave your dull, little
pedestrian life behind and join me, be one with me? Do you?”

He gazed down at her with such intensity that she wanted to shout out Yes! Yes I do want it. But she didn’t. She couldn’t. Because despite coming here, despite all that had happened, she still wasn’t quite sure she wanted to give up all that she had. Yes she had come and yes she had wanted this, with him, but she still wasn’t ready to give up her life either. Why did I come here?

He knew she was struggling. She hadn’t truly decided one way or another. It hurt him that she wasn’t sure. But he wasn’t going to give up. She would join him. She would be his.

She knew she had to say something. “It’s not like I regret coming here. I don’t. Everything that occurred was wonderful and thrilling. It’s just that I-I don’t know if I’m ready to take such a big step yet. Can you understand Max?”

What was he suppose to say in response. That no he didn’t understand. That he would like nothing better in the world than to keep her right here with him. That he didn’t care about her life away from him.

“I guess I do”
“Thank-you. I probably should get back soon. People will start to worry.”
“Hmm”
“Can I come see you again”.
“Of course. You know my offer still stands.”
“I know”
“After all you still owe me a dance in the dark.”
“I thought we had just danced.”
“Oh no my dear. You have yet to know the exquisite joys of dancing in the dark. But I
promise you by the time I’m through you’ll know”.
“I have no doubt of it. Well then. Until we dance in the dark”.
“Until we dance in the dark”.

Wow I'm so excited about all the feedback I've gotten. I'm so glad you guys liked my story. Well because of all of the wonderful responses I've decided to try and turn this into a fic. Here's the next part. I hope it's not too bad and you like it.

Disclaimer: Song belongs to Sarah Mclachlan

Interlude One: Had

Listen as the wind blows
from across the great divide
Voices trapped in yearning
memories trapped in time
The night is my companion
And solitude my guide
Would I spend forever here
and not be satisfied

And I would be the one
to hold you down
kiss you so hard
I’ll take your breath away
and after I’d wipe away the tears
Just close your eyes dear

Through this world I’ve stumbled
so many times betrayed
Trying to find an honest word
to find the truth enslaved
Oh you speak to me in riddles and
you speak to me in rhymes
My body aches to breathe your breath
your words keep me alive

And I would be the one
to hold you down
kiss you so hard
I’ll take your breath away
and after I’d wipe away the tears
Just close your eyes dear

Into this night I wander
it’s morning that I’d dread
Another day of knowing of
the path I fear to tread
Oh into the sea of waking dreams
I follow without pride
Nothing stands between us here
And I won’t be denied

And I would be the one
to hold you down
kiss you so hard
I’ll take your breath away
and after I’d wipe away the tears
Just close your eyes dear

Heat.

Sweat.

Pulsating.

She could feel it in the atmosphere.

It was dark.

It was harsh.

It was exhilarating.

It was everything she could have wanted and more.

She couldn’t believe she had actually gotten in. That she was actually here in this place. Quite frankly she hadn’t thought she would get in. She wasn’t exactly the type that fit the usual bill of this place. But yet she had.

Fear.

Intimidation.

Anxiety.

She was feeling all these things.

She didn’t belong here and she knew it.

It had all started out in jest. Everyone was talking, laughing just like they always did. It was all so innocent. They were all hanging out at her house- likethey always did every Saturdaynight. Same old, same old. Nothing out of the ordinary. They were lounging about eating french fries, doing nothing in particular. They were the experts at doing nothing. They had made it into an art.

So here she was-with them. Her friends. Maria. Alex. Kyle. Isabel. The same people she had been friends with forever. The same people she had grown up with since birth, that she had practically spent every waking minute with. And she hated it. She hated it all, her entire life.

Danger.

Death.

Dancing.

Darkness.

Destiny.

She had been so tired, so bored-with everything and everyone. She had wanted something more, something different. She wanted to do something bold, something little Lizzy Parker would never do, never even think about. So when they had been casually talking about the certain “ people, places, and things that were never spoken of” and Isabel had jokingly dared one of them to go there.....Liz had said “I’ll go”.

They all had thought she was kidding, naturally. Liz Parker go there? Never. Everyone
knew what sort went there. And Elizabeth Parker wasn’t that sort. So they all had laughed and continued talking. They continued talking as Liz got up, went to her closet and picked out the clothes she had secretly bought months ago but had never dared to wear. They continued talking as she went into the bathroom and shut the door.

Music.

Melody.

Power.

Passion.

Magic.

It was only when she emerged from the bathroom that they fell silent. “My God Liz what are you wearing”, Isabel had said. They all stared at her. “I get it–it’s–it’s a joke”, Maria replied. Liz only shook her head at them. She walked out her door and went towards the stairs. They all followed. “Where are you going?”

“I told you guys”

“You can’t be serious."

“Are you crazy”

“More like suicidal”

“You can’t go there”

“No one goes there”

“Well none of us anyway”

“It’s dangerous”

“It’s madness”

“I know” was all she answered back. I know.

Alex stopped her at the door. They were all around her. Finally they realized she was serious. That she meant to go.

“I can’t let you go Liz” Alex said.

They all echoed more or less the same thing. Always the same.

“You can’t stop me.”

She pushed Alex out of the way and walked out into the night.

Energy.

Ecstasy.

She wasn’t sure she would find it. It was in a part of town she had never been to before. No one she knew had come here before. No one she knew would want to come. It took her a while to find it. But she had. It actually felt like it had called to her. That it wanted her to find it. And then she was there. No markings. No signs of any kind saying this was the place. But she knew it was here. She could feel it. So she went on into the alley, down the stairs.

At first there was darkness. It surrounded her. Only darkness and silence. Then before she saw even a flicker she heard it. The music. The erotic and haunting rhythms that filled the air. And then she knew she had to be there- inside where the music was. So she followed the sound in the dark. Until she came to a door.

She tried to open it but it wouldn’t budge. So she knocked. Nothing. She knocked again. Nothing. She knocked louder. Nothing. She pounded on the door. Nothing. She turned to leave and then...she a crack. She turned around and saw a man standing there. He almost seemed to blend into the darkness. He was dressed all in black.

For a moment she just stood there looking at him. She couldn’t move. For the first time she wondered if she had made the right decision in coming here, to this place. The man looked at her with a smirk on his face as he stared at her up and down. The way he looked at her chilled her to the bone. Finally he spoke.

“Aren’t you coming in”

“Excuse me”

“I said aren’t you coming in”

She didn’t know what to say or what to do.

“Well”

“Umm-I-uh-I guess-I mean can I come in”

“Of course”

“Ok”

She walked forward again, passed the man. As she entered inside she heard him whisper to her.

“We’ve been expecting you Miss Parker”

Before she could reply to him he closed the door and walked off into the crowd. It was then she realized what she had really gotten herself into. It was still practically dark. If it weren’t for the silver lights that sporadically flashed throughout the place would be in pitch blackness.

Darkness.

It was so intense. Everything and everyone. She had never seen anything like it. Nothing could have prepared her for this. It was an entire world unto itself. A world that had it’s own rules. It’s own set of laws. None of which she knew about. She felt so out of place here. She also felt like she was being watched-thought she doubted it. Who would be watching me? Still she feltt it. And what had that man meant when he said she had been expected. Who would be expecting her?

Cautiously she attempted to maneuver her way through the crowd. Through the mass of bodies grinding and gyrating- each to their own music. She was so self-conscious. She felt like a silly child trying to play dress up and pass as an adult. Like everyone else she had heard stories of this place. Of what went on here. Of who came here. She had heard stories and now she was
actually here herself. Liz Parker.

The music was starting to get to her. It was hypnotic. Entrancing. Seductive. Unconsciously she began to move, feeling taking over. Her body swayed back and forth. She was one with the melody. One with the rhythm. One with the music. One.

For seconds, minutes, or hours she was like this. Time seemed to slip away. All that existed was the music. The drive to dance. And then it happened. She wasn’t even quite sure how long it had been happening. She was dancing with someone- a man. He had encircled her in his arms. They were moving as one. Dancing.

Seconds.

Minutes.

Hours.

Eternity.

He had seen her as soon as she had come through the door. He would know her anywhere. He had hoped she would come. For some reason he knew tonight would be it. That everything would change. Since he had awaken, he had had the feeling that she would come tonight. After all this time, she would finally come. But he didn’t permit himself to hope too much. For he knew who she was. People like her didn’t come to places like this. He had tried to dismiss the feeling he had. And yet he couldn’t let go of his hope. And then he saw her.

He literally had been shocked. Which for him was indeed a rare thing. He was never shocked. He had seen too much, knew too much, been through too much, done too much- to be shocked of anything anymore. Yet tonight one seemingly simple, innocent young girl had shocked him. And it was wonderful.

Desire.

Want.

Need.

Here he was now- with her. Dancing with her. He had never thought she would ever be this close to him. He had never dared to hope to ever touch her...hold her....feel her. She was a gift sent to him from the heavens. It was as if a miracle had been delivered to him. If he had been one to believe in miracles that is.

She felt so good against him. He didn’t want to ever let go. And if he could manage it...he wouldn’t.

A Dance in the Dark.

It finally dawned on her what was going on. She looked up to see the man she was dancing with.

It was him.

She couldn’t believe it. In all her wildest dreams, she had never actually thought she would be in the same place as him. Not that she hadn’t ever wished for it. She had. More than often. She had dreamed of him. Silently yearned for him. All her darkest desires had been of him. Things she would never say out loud or admit to anyone. How could she?

Shyly she allowed herself to look him in the eyes.

Golden Amber.

Intent.

Full of promise.

Depth.

That was what she saw.

They continued to move in perfect synchronicity. She could feel the fire between them.

Charging.

Electrifying.

Magnetizing.

Binding.

“I’ve been waiting for this” he said.
“So have I” she replied.

“Would you like to dance”.
“Isn’t that what we’re doing”.
“No, I’m talking about dancing in the dark”.
“What’s that”.
“Wouldn’t you like to know”.
“I would”.
