****Chapter One****

“So…any change?”

Liz Parker frowned as she studied the mirror in front of her. A petite, brown-haired, brown-eyed girl frowned back at her.

“No, they look the same as they did yesterday,” she sighed into the phone receiver she was cradling in the nook of her shoulder. She turned and tried looking at herself from a different angle. No such luck. “Still a B-cup,” she muttered as she looked at her reflection in disgust.

“Cheer up, chica,” Maria DeLuca replied over the phone. “Maybe you could just buy a good push-up bra. Or one of those water-bra things. I hear they look really realistic.”

Liz rolled her eyes. “I don’t think I’d feel very comfortable during the winter wearing an ice bra,” she retorted.

A giggle came from the other end of the phone.

Liz sighed and glanced at the clock. “Well, I still have to go take a shower, so see ya in an hour?”

“Sure thing, Lizzie,” Maria chirped. “Talk to ya later.”

Liz hung up and took another look at herself.

Today marked a significant day in her life. Today she was sixteen years old. New opportunities would be opening up for her and she would begin to be treated as more of an adult by people. It was an exciting time for anyone.

The only problem? She still looked fifteen.

Okay, okay, she reasoned with herself. It wasn’t like she was expecting to wake up and find a complete transformation of herself.
But she thought maybe she’d feel a little more mature and it would show everywhere else. Instead, she still looked and felt like the same mousy, flat-chested, brainy Liz Parker that everybody had grown up knowing but never really paid any attention to.

Liz rolled her eyes. “OKAY, MOM!!!,” she shouted back irritably.

Liz’s older, more perfect sister Rosa was back in Roswell for her wedding and complete chaos had taken over the Parker household as everyone prepared for the upcoming event.

Liz was used to taking a backseat whenever Rosa was around, so she didn’t really mind the fact that her parents hardly noticed her when she was around and when they did, it was usually to yell at her for something.

She walked over to her stereo and turned it up loud, hoping to drown out everyone. Madonna’s “What it Feels Like For A Girl” was playing and Liz began humming as she prepared herself for school.

After taking a quick shower, she pulled out a knee-length white stretchy skirt and a baby-blue scoop-necked blouse, along with her pair of white sandals.

She stared at herself in the mirror again as she brushed her hair and applied her makeup. Sighing slightly, she began to get dressed.

Why was she bothering getting dressed up? It’s not like anyone was going to notice her anyway. Especially not anyone she wanted to notice her.

With that thought in mind, she began daydreaming wistfully about a tall, dark-haired, devastatingly handsome someone. Someone she’d known for years but never had the courage to actually talk to.

In her daydream, he would stride into one of her classes, maybe biology, and sweep her out of her chair, kiss her passionately, and take her in his arms and lead her out to his jeep and then…

Liz jerked herself out of her dream and grabbed her purse and headed downstairs. She braced herself for the birthday greetings and hugs that were imminent.

Nancy Parker hurriedly grabbed two cake pans out of the oven and threw them on the counter.

Liz stood at the foot of the stairs and struck a pose as she watched her mother scurry around and her father calmly sip coffee from his cup at the kitchen table.
When no one noticed her, she cleared her throat waited to be recognized.

“Liz, Maria’s in the front waiting for you. You have to learn to be on time!!!” her mother chided, not even looking at her.

“Have a good day at school, honey,” Jeff Parker added, his eyes never leaving the Roswell Times in front of him.

Liz stood in shock. Was that it??

“Umm… is that all you have to say to me?” she demanded, one hand on her hip.

“Liz, I don’t have time to discuss whatever major crisis you’re having right now, okay? We’re meeting Nick’s parents today and I have all this baking to do…” Nancy gestured to the dozen pans littering the kitchen counters.

Liz’s jaw dropped in anger. “That’s it!!?? You have absolutely nothing else to say to me??? Today???”

Finally, her mother turned and looked at her. “What do you want me to say, Liz?” she asked in exhaust.

Liz was speechless. Her parent’s forgot her birthday? They actually forgot her birthday!!

Without a word, she spun on her heel and headed towards the front of the house. She pushed open the doors that lead into the Crashdown Café, the restaurant her parent’s owned.

Maria jumped to her feet at the sight of her best friend’s red face. “Liz, what happened? Are you okay?” she asked in concern.

“Let’s just say I got one hell of a birthday present,” Liz replied through gritted teeth.

Maria looked at her expectantly.

Liz sighed and started walking towards the door. “Come on, we’ll be late,” she added, the realization dawning on her.

She was even more invisible than she thought.

TBC what do you guys think????

Thanks to everyone who read, especially JBehrBabe, Aussie_dreamer, and Lana Lane! I really hope this story doesn't suck too bad, but I'm not the best judge of my own work. That means.. FEEDBACK FEEDBACK FEEDBACK!! *happy* Anyways, can anyone tell me how to modify my subject to say it has been updated? I'm kind of new at this... thanks again guys! *Lindsay

**** Chapter 2 ****

As Liz and Maria walked through the doors of West Roswell High School, they were greeted with the usual sight of students walking through the halls and mingling by their lockers.

“I can’t believe they forgot your birthday!” Maria said sympathetically. “Wait! What if they’re planning some kind of surprise thingy?”

Liz snorted. “Please. They’re way too absorbed in this whole Rosa and Nick thing to even notice I’m there half the time. I should have expected this.”

Maria frowned at the defeated tone in her friend’s voice. She wished she could go over to the Crashdown and give Nancy and Jeff Parker a piece of her mind for making Liz so unhappy on today of all days.

Just then, a group of football players and cheerleaders walked by.

“Hey, Maria!”

Maria waved half-heartedly , her attention still on Liz. Liz watched the guys ogle her friend and felt like hitting her head against the nearest wall.

She and Maria had been best friends since kindergarten when they both found out their favorite movie was Lady and the Tramp. They had been inseparable ever since.

But no matter how close they were, there had always been one thing about Maria that had driven Liz crazy.

Maria was beautiful.

Not just your run-of-the-mill pretty high school girl, but drop-dead gorgeous eye candy.

Maria was everything any girl wanted to be. Tall, blonde, curly hair that did any and everything you wanted it to do, sparkling blue eyes, pearly white teeth, flawless skin, and pouty lips.

She was also a very talented singer and she dreamed of singing in an expensive, romantic club in Las Vegas.

Needless to say, every guy in Roswell wanted her and every girl envied her. Well, they wanted to. But the thing about Maria was that you couldn’t help but love her.

Of course, she was even more beautiful when she was standing next to Liz. Or at least that’s what Liz figured.
Why would anybody notice her when Maria DeLuca was there? Answer? They didn’t.
But Maria never let her popularity go to her head. She stayed friends with the same people she had always been friends with and acted like she didn’t notice the looks people gave her.

But Liz did. And she was tired of being known as ‘the girl that hung out with Maria’.

She had never mentioned this to Maria. Why bother? Maria didn’t understand and would deny that anything was wrong with her.

“Lizzie, you’re beautiful. I wish I had your silky brown hair…”

Yep, that’s what Maria would say.

So Liz just kept quiet when her friend was asked to party after party. She pretended not to care when guys would ask Maria out, not noticing the small girl standing next to her.

That’s why Liz had wanted a change so badly. Then, maybe, people would start to see her as more than just ‘the girl that hung out with Maria’.

Just then, a voice broke her out of her thoughts.

“Well, if it’s not my two favorite girls in all of New Mexico!” Alex Whitman beamed as he looped his arms around the two.

“Wow, New Mexico this time, Alex?” Maria teased. “What about what’s-her-name… Juanita?”

Alex made a face and Maria and Liz laughed as they remembered the Spanish exchange student Alex had been infatuated with a few months earlier.

“Shut up! How was I supposed to know she preferred a ….. a…. a Catherine Zeta Jones to an Antonio Banderas?”

“Yeah, that’s a nice way of putting it, Alex,” Liz giggled.

“Anyway…. I came over to wish somebody a happy birthday!” Alex said, trying to change the subject.

He pulled out a small bouquet of white roses and handed them to Liz with a flourish. “I picked these out of Maria’s mother’s garden,” he teased, watching the look of anger pass over Maria’s face.

“Alex! You know my mother will kill you if she –“

“Kidding, ‘Ria!” Alex laughed as Maria began blabbing about her mother’s insane gardening habits.

Liz laughed at her two friends as they continued to walk towards their lockers. She sniffed the flowers Alex had handed her and smiled.

“These are great, Alex. Thank you,” she kissed him on the cheek.

“Uh, oh, Liz… loverboy at two o clock,” Maria squealed excitedly as she nudged Liz in the ribs.

Liz turned and her breath left her in a whoosh. Max Evans had just entered the school, followed by his entourage of jocks and cheerleaders.

Liz’s eyes followed him as he smiled at people in greeting and raked a hand through his dark brown hair.

“God, he’s beautiful,” Liz sighed as Max made his way down the hallway to his locker and began getting books out.

Max Evans was the most eligible bachelor of West Roswell High. With good reason.

He hadn’t dated a single girl since he and his sister had moved to WRH back in third grade.

Add into account that he looked like a Greek God come to life and you could see why every girl in Roswell pined over him.

Including Liz.

They had had several classes together over the years and several chances for Liz to make her move. But her shyness made it impossible for her to get the courage to walk up to him and start a conversation.

That, and the fact that he was usually surrounded by his groupies. But what did it matter? He probably didn’t even know who she was.

“So…” Maria drawled as she watched Liz’s eyes glued to Max’s every move.

“So what?” Liz asked, sighing as Max bent over to put a book in his bag. God, the guy had the best ass….

“So go talk to him!” Maria insisted, giving Liz a little push in Max’s direction.

“What! No, no way Maria!” Liz blushed, turning back towards her friends. “Max Evans doesn’t even know I’m alive… “

“I’ll go talk to him for you,” Alex offered, taking a step forward. Alex and Max were on the football team together.

“NO!” Liz practically shrieked, yanking Alex back by the shirt collar.

Several people stopped to stare – including Max.

“Omigod…” Liz moaned, hiding her face in her hands. If Max did have any idea who she was, he probably thought she was psychotic.

Alex snickered while Maria stifled a laugh.

Liz shot them both a look. “That was sooo not funny, you guys,” she snapped, turning quickly to her locker and yanking out several books.

“Hey, who’s laughing?” Alex said, trying to keep a straight face. Then he glanced at Maria and the two cracked up.

They both knew Liz had had a thing for Max Evans since the third grade, even though Liz still denied it at times.

Liz scowled at the pair, who were still laughing at her expense, when a familiar voice startled her.

Liz practically jumped out of her skin when she heard the deep, husky voice right next to her.

Turning in surprise, she almost tripped over her bookbag when she was greeted by a smiling Max Evans.

“MAX!” she squeaked. “I mean, Max, hi,” she added, trying her hardest to be nonchalant although inside her heart was bouncing around more than a Mexican jumping bean.

What could Max Evans possibly want from her? He had hardly ever said anything to her besides ‘Can you pass the beaker’ in biology. She didn’t even know he knew her name!!

“Hi,” Max replied, looking from Liz’s red face to Maria and Alex’s interested ones. “Um… Liz, I was wondering…”

Liz wasn’t even listening, she was too busy staring into Max’s deep, amber eyes. Without realizing it, she let out a sigh.

Huh? Liz snapped out of her daze to find Max staring at her with a confused look. Oh God! She had been caught staring at Max Evans!!! This was so embarrassing!

“I… I’m sorry… Max,” Liz stuttered. “What were you saying?”

Alex snorted again and Maria elbowed him in the ribs. Liz’s face turned even redder, if that was possible.

“I was going to ask if you had the notes from yesterday’s lecture,” Max repeated, acting as if nothing had happened.

Oh. He wanted notes? She should have known. “Yeah.. sure,” Liz said, feeling disappointment and then anger at her own stupidity.

How could she have assumed that Max would want anything more from her?

Liz turned around to get her bio notebook and handed it to Max. As he took it from her, their fingers brushed slightly, and Liz pulled away quickly.

“Um, there you go. I hope that helps,” Liz said, her eyes darting back and forth.

“Thanks a lot, Liz. My notes were crap and I don’t think anyone else knew what the hell was going on,” Max continued, giving her a strange look. But not a bad one. “I knew if anyone did, it would be you. You’re so smart and everything.”

Liz was taken aback by his comment. Huh? Max Evans thought she was smart? Max Evans thought about her at all????

She just stood there, nodding her head.

The first bell rang, and Max pushed his hair off his forehead. “Well.. thanks again, Liz. I’ll see you in bio?”

Liz stared back at him, unable to speak. Until Maria nudged her in the arm. “Oh! Yeah, sure! Bio!”

Max flashed the smile that had every girl in Roswell swooning and turned on his heel. “Later, then,” he called over his shoulder.

When he was gone, Liz felt a huge smile break out over her face. This day was getting better by the minute!

TBC feedback please!!!! Should I continue??

Wow!! Thanks for all the feedback guys! I wasn't sure whether or not this was any good. Just to let you know, I'm living in Japan right now (military husband) so I update at weird times... but I promise you that as long as you keep sending feedback, I'll try to update at least once a day, if not every other day. Also, to answer a few quick ??'s, no, this story doesn't have any aliens in it - I think we all need a little break from THAT drama, huh? - and it is a very bad knockoff of Sixteen Candles. I'm definately changing things around, though, because... well, I want to! *happy* Oh, and someone asked me if Tess was going to show her face. All I can say is.... have you SEEN Sixteen Candles?? Hehehehe....

**** Chapter 3 ****

Liz drummed her fingers against her desk in boredom as she watched the seconds on the clock tick by slowly.

Mr. Abney sat in the front of the class, reading some science magazine and not paying attention to anyone.

Liz looked down at her nails. Geez… when was the last time she had had a manicure? Oh wait, that’s right. Never.

Maybe I should get one, she thought aimlessly, studying the short nubs. She glanced back up at the clock.

Twenty seconds had past. She groaned and laid her head on the desk. She hated study hall!!!

What was the point of it anyway? If they wanted you to do homework at home as they preached, then why stick you in a class for an hour where you can do nothing but homework??? For an hour??

The only upside was that Max was in her study period.

She turned her head slightly, glancing towards the back of the room where Max always sat with his twin sister Isabel.

And found herself staring into a pair of golden brown eyes. Liz’s own eyes widened.

Was Max staring at her??

As if in response, Max gave a small smile.

Liz snapped her head back to the front of the room. Oh god! That was the second time today she had been caught staring at him!!

She gulped and sank lower into her chair, hoping the time would go by quick so she could get out of there and save herself from any further embarrassment.

Just then, she felt a tap on her shoulder, followed by a “Psst!!!”

Liz looked over her shoulder to where Courtney Mitchell was holding a piece of folded paper to her.

Liz took it questioningly and turned back around in her desk.

As she opened the note, she saw that it was a questionaire.
She glanced at the first question.

Liz scrunched her nose. Gotten where? She scribbled down an answer, then glanced at the next question.

Well, no hesitation there. She wrote down no and went to the next one.

Liz wrote in huge letters YES, underlined three times.

The next question stopped her in her tracks.

Liz bit her lip, and stole another glance at the back of the room where Max was whispering with one of his friends and laughing.

She turned back to the letter and scribbled MAX EVANS!!!

With that, she refolded the note and tapped Maria on the shoulder in front of her, not noticing that she was asleep.

Liz then slipped the note under Maria’s desk and began writing furiously in her notebook, hoping Mr. Abney hadn’t noticed her passing notes in his class.

“What do you mean you don’t have it?” Liz yelped, as she and Maria walked down the hall towards the cafeteria.

“I mean, I don’t have it!” Maria replied. “I fell asleep after the first bell. I didn’t even feel you tap me on the shoulder!”

Liz couldn’t believe this. There was now a note circulating around the school about her!

“What was it about anyway?” Maria asked as they sat down at the nearest table. She opened her lunch and began chomping on a carrot. She held one out to Liz, but she was too busy freaking to notice.

“It was like some kind of stupid questionaire… you know, asking me if I’d ever done it.. who I wanted to do it with…”

“Who did you put?” Maria asked worriedly.

The look Liz gave her answered Maria’s question without words.

“Oh, Lizzie… you didn’t!”

“I did,” Liz moaned. “I didn’t think it would matter! It didn’t have my name on it and I was giving it to YOU!!” She glared at Maria accusingly.

“Well, if it didn’t have your name on it, then you have nothing to worry about, right?” Maria said, trying to sound positive.

Liz didn’t look so sure. “Yeah… I guess you’re right…”

“Hello ladies!” Alex beamed as he plopped down next to Liz. He took an apple from his lunch tray and took a huge bite. Then he noticed the looks on his friends faces. “Hey! Why the long faces?”

“Nothing!” Liz said before Maria could open her mouth. She was feeling sick all of a sudden and didn’t feel like rehashing her latest feat of delinquincy.

Alex shrugged. Probably girl stuff. “So, anybody going to this dance tonight?” he asked, wiggling his eyebrows up and down.

He was referring to the annual Sadie Hawkins dance that West Roswell held every spring.

“Actually, my grandparents are coming tonight all the way from Florida so my parents will probably make me stay home and entertain them,” Liz sighed, taking a sip of her cherry coke. “Besides, who would I ask?” she added, remembering that it was the girls that did the asking at this particular dance.

“Yeah, you’re right,” Maria sighed, tossing her blonde hair over her shoulder. “Probably won’t be any fun anyway. Remember last year?”

The three laughed as they recalled the horrorendus breakup that had occurred between Kyle Valenti and Tess Harding, the Prom Queen of West Roswell.

“Yeah, I’ve never seen Kyle so drunk!!” Alex laughed.

“Kyle! What about Tess?!” Liz asked, laughing at how Miss Perfect Tessie had been furious the next day when she discovered that the punch had been spiked and she had a horrible hangover.

“Well, I’m going,” Alex said nonchalantly.

“What! With who?” Liz demanded curiously.

Alex gave a sheepish look. “Isabel asked me.”

“Isabel EVANS!?” Maria and Liz exclaimed at the same time. They couldn’t believe it! Alex was going to the dance with the ice queen of West Roswell?

“Yes, that’s the one,”Alex said happily. He had had a crush on Isabel for the last seven years and she finally asked him out! “She’s not so bad once you get to know her.”

Liz snorted. “I’ll take your word for it,” she said unbelievingly. No matter what Alex said, Liz would never believe there was anymore to Isabel than a cold heart.

Isabel was Max’s twin sister, but they were as different as night and day. Where Max was open and inviting, Isabel was snobby and indifferent.

“Whatever, at least she had the nerve to ask someone!” Alex said pointedly. Liz scowled and tossed a cheese curl at him.

“Well, I gotta go ladies,” Alex laughed as another chip came flying towards him. “Sure you guys won’t reconsider?”

“I don’t think so, Alex,” Liz said.

“Alright, but the invitation still stands.”

Liz and Maria smiled as he left.

“Alex and Isabel, huh?” Maria said, giving Liz a look.

“Yeah, let’s just hope she doesn’t brainwash him or something.”

“Maybe he’s right about her,” Maria offered. “I remember one time when Izzy and I were taking ballet together. She actually seemed kind of nice…”

Liz wasn’t listening anymore. She had just seen Max Evans walk through the cafeteria doors.

And on his arm was Tess Harding.

TBC feedback please!

Author’s Note: Hey guys! I have decided to treat you guys to another chapter… only because I love you so much! *happy* Also, I’m really in need of a cute banner for this story and since I have no idea how to do it myself, I’m offering it up to anybody who may be interested. I’ve already posted a message on the multimedia board, but I think more people may see it here. So… if you ARE interested, please bmail me or email at gordon_lindsay2002⊕ Also, I know a lot of you are mad that Tess is in the story. I have to say I am too lol! But I have good reason so just bear with me, kay? Anyway… on with the show! Enjoy!

**** CHAPTER 4 ****

“Max, what time are you picking me up for the dance?” Tess purred into his ear as they found a seat at the popular table.

Max had to fight to keep from rolling his eyes. “Tess, I’m not going to the dance with you, remember? “

Tess had somehow gotten it into her mind that since she suddenly decided that she wanted to take Max to the dance that it was happening as planned. She had never even asked him!

“Oh, come on, Max! It’ll be fun! Besides, it’s not like you’re going with anyone else,” Tess added, pointing out the fact that Max had been turning down invitations left and right all day.

“Yeah, but maybe I don’t feel like going to the stupid thing,” Max said, making a face at the thought of having to sit through another one of West Roswell’s stupid crepe-paper parties.

“Max, how can you say that? This is only one of the biggest dances we have all year!” Tess replied, shocked that Max wouldn’t want to attend.

“Tess, to you everything is a big deal,” Isabel Evans smirked as she sat her tray down next to Pam Troy. She gave the girl a look saying move-the-hell-over-now-or-else. Pam quickly complied.

“Well, Izzy, seems like someone is still harboring sore feelings about the Homecoming Dance,” Tess replied in a sugary voice, implying the fact that Tess had beaten Isabel for the title.

Isabel rolled her eyes. “If you think for one second that I care that you won Homecoming Queen, then I think your hair bleach is starting to seep through the holes in your head.”

The whole table – with the exception of Max – gasped. No one spoke that way to Tess Harding.

Tess was the most popular girl in school. Blonde, bouncy curls, baby blue eyes, full lips, and a body to kill for, she was the most sought after girl at WRH. Once Tess set her eyes on something, she always got it. And lately her goal was Max Evans.

Tess wanted to do something that was often dreamed about but unheard of. Being the first to bag Max Evans.

The thought made Isabel cringe. Isabel had her own popularity, and of course it didn’t hurt that she was Max’s sister.

She knew that many people thought she was a complete bitch, but she didn’t care. Who was she trying to impress? The skanks and rejects that went to this school? Surely not.

In fact, the only person to know that Isabel Evans was capable of anything but sarcasm and haughtiness was her brother.

And as of late, Alex Whitman.

Isabel couldn’t figure out what it was about the goofy football player, but slowly he had managed to break down her icy exterior and get to know the real Isabel.

But anyway… the thought of her brother and Tess Harding…. Isabel needed a barf bag quick.

Tess scowled at the comment while Max tried to cover his smile. His sister was something else.

“Well, I…” Tess frowned, having nothing to say. Isabel smiled triumphantly and began eating her salad.

“Hey guys! How’s it going?” Alex said as he slapped Max on the back.

“Oh, hey Alex,” Max grinned at his lanky friend. “Hey, you want to sit down?”

Alex glanced at the disapproving look on Tess’s face and shook his head. “Nah, that’s okay… I was just stopping by to say what’s up.” He looked at Isabel and smiled.

“Um… Isabel, what time did you want me to meet you at the dance?” Alex asked nonchalantly.

Isabel ignored the snort from Tess and replied, “Seven will be fine, Alex.”

Alex nodded. “Great! Now if I could only convince Liz and Maria to go.”

Max’s ears perked up at the mention of Liz’s name. “They aren’t going?” he asked, trying to appear casual.

Alex shook his head. “Not yet. But trust me… I have my ways. If I have anything to say about it they will.”

“Who cares?” Tess yawned pointedly, signaling Alex that his time was up. Who cared about Maria DeLuca anyway? Tess couldn’t understand why everybody fawned all over the girl.

And the other girl… what was her name? Lynn? Whatever.

“Yeah, well… talk to you later,” Alex said, realizing that Tess and Pam were giving him evil looks. He turned on his heel and left.

“ANYWAY..” Tess began, tossing her head to one side. “As I was saying…”

But Max wasn’t listening. He was thinking about what Alex had said.

So Liz Parker may be at the dance? Hmm… maybe he would go after all. Just to check things out.

TBC I know this was short but I got really tired! Maybe some more later… *happy*

Sorry, Rach! I'm waiting for you next time, I promise! *happy* take as long as you need!

Author’s Note: The following parts take place at the same time, in case there is any confusion.

**** CHAPTER 5 ****

“So, you ready for the dinner tonight with your family?” Maria asked as she and Liz opened their gym lockers.

Liz sighed, thinking of the ordeal to come. “Yeah… I guess. It shouldn’t last too long. I hope.”

“So, you sure you don’t want me to come?” Maria asked sympathetically, knowing that whenever Liz’s huge family got together, disaster struck.

Last year at the Parker Christmas dinner, Liz’s cousin Corey got a green bean stuck up his nose and had to be rushed off to Roswell Memorial in the middle of the meal.

Then there was the reunion when Liz’s grandfather Toby choked on a chicken bone and…. had to be rushed off to Roswell Memorial.

Needless to say, at every Parker event someone ended up in Intensive Care.

“Nah, I plan on getting out of there after the salad anyway,” Liz declared, staring in disbelief as Tess Harding and her wannabe’s walked by completely nude.

Liz looked from Tess’s perfect, shapely body down to her own towel covered one. She frowned, noticing the distinct lack of curves.

“So, you got Max Evans to agree to go to the dance?” Ava Jones squealed.

Tess smiled smugly, reaching in her locker and pulling on a pair of lacy black panties and matching bra. “Let’s just say I’ve made him an offer he couldn’t resist,” she replied airily.

The three girls accompanying her sighed dreamily. “Wow…. Max Evans! Tess, you’re so lucky!”

Liz swallowed hard. So, Tess and Max, huh? Oh well, she should have known. They were perfect for each other. Popular, beautiful…

“Liz, did you hear what I said?”

Liz turned back to Maria, who was pulling on a silky blouse. “I’m sorry, what were you saying, ‘Ria?” she asked, trying not to feel like her world was crashing down around her.

So Max Evans had finally found someone he liked?

“I was saying that maybe I’ll go to the dance after all,” Maria said casually, awaiting Liz’s reaction.

Liz’s eyes widened. “What! With who?” she asked suspiciously. As far as she knew Maria wasn’t seeing anyone, and she would definitely tell her if she was.

Maria gave a small smile. “Michael Guerin,” she replied nonchalantly, shutting her locker door.

“Michael Guerin! As in captain of the basketball team, Max Evans’s best friend… THAT Michael Guerin??” Liz asked incredulously.

“Yeah, you know how I’ve been tutoring him in English?” Maria smiled happily.

Actually, Liz had forgotten that little detail.

“Well… we’ve been becoming really good friends… and he mentioned that he wanted to go today during fifth, so…”

“So you asked him to go,” Liz finished, giving Maria a knowing look. She should have known! What guy would say no to Maria DeLuca?

“Lizzie, I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner, but I wasn’t sure he liked me and I didn’t want to make you feel left out… hey! I have a great idea! Why don’t you come with us?” Maria smiled, figuring it was the perfect idea.

Yeah, right. And be the third wheel? Liz scrunched her face. “Thanks anyway, Maria. But I was serious earlier when I said I didn’t want to go. Besides… this is you and Michael’s first date. I wouldn’t want to ruin it.”

“Nonsense, Lizzie. I had already mentioned the idea to him and he didn’t mind. Ooh! Maybe you could ask him some questions about Max!” she grinned, nudging Liz in the ribs.

“No thanks, Maria!” Liz laughed. “Besides..” she added, the smile fading, “Max is going out with Tess now.”

“What! Tess Harding? I didn’t know that!” Maria exclaimed, wondering how this juicy bit of gossip had managed to slip her ears.

“Well, they’re going to the dance together,” Liz corrected.

Maria didn’t look convinced. Hadn’t Michael told her Max wasn’t going to the dance?

“Well, better get going or I’m going to be late for my shift,” Liz sighed, pulling her long hair back into a ponytail. The subject of the dance was really beginning to depress her.

“Well, if you change your mind...” Maria offered as they walked down the hall towards the parking lot.

“I know,” Liz gave a small smile. “Thanks Maria,” she said, hugging her best friend. “Have a good time tonight, kay?”

Maria wiggled her eyebrows. “I always do.”

The two girls laughed and walked towards Maria’s Jetta, not noticing the pair of eyes watching them from inside a black Jeep.

Max Evans grunted as he completed another set of pullups. Stretching his neck, he glanced over at Paulie Thomson, his fellow wrestler, as they worked out.

“Spot me?” he asked as he headed towards the weightlifting bench. Paulie nodded, slinging a towel over his shoulder as he followed Max.

Max laid on the bench as Paulie added more weights to the bar.

“So… you going to that dance tonight?” Max asked casually, wondering how he should bring up the subject that had been on his mind all day.

“Yeah, Serena Morris asked me. She’s got a hot little body and all,” Paulie winked at Max and Max smiled back.

“What about you?” Paulie asked as Max lifted and lowered the weights.

“Was thinking about it. Tess asked me,” Max replied breathlessly. He lifted the bar again, loving the feel of his muscles building.

“Tess, huh? Lucky you,” Paulie added, giving Max an envious look.

After a few minutes, they switched and Max stood in thought as he helped Paulie lift the bar.

“Do you know anything about Liz Parker?” he asked suddenly.

Paulie grunted, not used to the same amount of weight that Max was. He lowered the bar and breathed hard for a moment before answering.

“Brunette, right?”

“Yeah, that’s her,” Max replied, not really sure where he was going with this.

“What about her?” Paulie asked as he sat up and wiped the sweat from his forehead.

“Well… what do you think of her?” Max asked, interested to hear Paulie’s opinion.

“I don’t,” Paulie replied, stretching his arms out. “I mean, she’s cute, I guess. But there’s really nothing THERE, ya know what I mean?”

Max didn’t reply, just frowned in thought.

“Not like Tess,” Paulie added. “Now THAT’S a woman. What I wouldn’t do to hit that piece of…”

But Max wasn’t listening anymore. All he could think about was whether Liz was going to the dance.

The last bell rang and he said goodbye to Paulie and the rest of his buddies and headed towards his Jeep.

Maybe he would stop by the Crashdown and get something to eat before he went home. Didn’t she usually work on Friday afternoons? Maybe he’d talk to her and find out whether she was going.

As he reached his truck, soft laughter hit his ears and he turned to see Liz coming out of the school with her best friend Maria DeLuca. Max watched as they climbed into Maria’s car and drove off.

Hmm… Michael had told him that he was going with Maria to the dance tonight. Maybe he could play this another way…

Hi guys! I was meaning to get this part up earlier after it was approved... but my husband and I had some "business" to take care of lol *wink wink* so it got delayed. Special thanks goes out to Mystical Light M/L 4 ever and wild child uk. And I didn't mean you had to leave, Rach! Really! I didn't mind waiting for you... I just got antsy that one time lol. But I can understand if you're too busy to beta. Thank you for your time anyway! You can always come back *happy*
So, without further ado... a very short beginning to chapter 6! There will be more later so keep a look out!

****CHAPTER 6****

Liz gratefully slipped the shiny antenna off her head as she walked back up to her apartment after her shift was over. As she entered her room, she heard music playing from the room across the hall where her sister was staying.

She sighed and began to take off her waitress uniform, wrinkling her nose at the smell of grease that permeated from it.

She tossed it into her laundry hamper and turned the shower head on.

After a hot shower she wrapped up in her robe and sat on her bed thinking about the day’s events. It had started out badly, then Max had brightened it by acknowledging her. Then the whole Tess thing…

“Long day?”

Liz glanced up and found Rosa standing in her doorway. “Oh, yeah. I guess you could say that,” she said, offering a seat on her bed for her sister.

Rosa smiled. “They feel really bad, you know. After they found out.”

Liz frowned. “Found out about what?”

“That they forgot your birthday,” Rosa replied, picking up a brush and running it through Liz’s hair. “Mom flipped out and started talking about how she was getting so old that she couldn’t even remember her own daughter’s birthday.”

Liz snorted. “Yeah… well, it’s okay. I mean, with everything that’s going on, I can understand a few memory lapses.”

Truth was, she wasn’t upset anymore that her parent’s had forgotten her birthday, or even that Max was dating Tess Harding. She was resigned even more than ever to the fact that she, Liz Parker, was invisible.

“Well, even so, they’re waiting for you downstairs,” Rosa smiled. “Oh, and by the way, this is for you. From Nick and I.”

Liz took the package Rosa handed her in surprise. “You got me a present? Oh… Rosa, you shouldn’t have! I know you and Nick are saving for the honeymoon and..”

“Oh, just hush and open it!” Rosa grinned.

Liz smiled back and began unwrapping the present. Her eyes widened in confusion when she pulled out a silky red dress.

“Do you like it?” Rosa asked earnestly. “Maria told me there was a dance tonight and I thought a new dress may lift your spirits.”

“It’s beautiful,” Liz whispered as she fingered the silky material. It was very low cut and fell just below the knee. She could tell it was meant to accentuate the curves of a female’s body. “But I’m not going to the dance,” Liz added, not wanting to hurt Rosa’s feelings, but needing to let her know.

Rosa smiled. “Well, maybe for some other occasion,” she replied. “Happy birthday, Lizzie.”

Liz smiled and hugged her older sister, remembering how much she had missed her sister when she had first moved out. “Thank you so much, Rosa.”

She took the dress and hung it in the closet. “So, how did the lunch with the parent’s go?” she asked and turned back around.

“Better than I thought it would,” Rosa admitted. “They seemed to get along, but then again, Mom did most of the talking while Dad sat there and fiddled with his napkin.”

Liz laughed. “Sounds familiar.”

“Guess we better go,” Liz said, throwing on a pair of comfy jeans and a v-neck.

“Twenty bucks on Grandpa Joe,” Rosa said as they made their way down the stairs.

Liz shook her head. “Nah, I think he learned from last time not to chew and talk at the same time. My money’s on Aunt Barbara. That spasm thing she does? Accident waiting to happen.”
“You’re on,” Rosa laughed.

When they reached the bottom of the stairs, Liz’s mother pulled her aside.

“Oh, honey! Your father and I feel awful about forgetting your birthday!” she said, giving Liz a big hug.

“It’s okay, Mom. I understand that these things happen,”Liz replied.

“And you were trying to let us know this morning,” Nancy added, her eyes filling with tears. “I am so sorry.”

Liz shifted uncomfortably. “I said it’s okay, Mom. Really, no permanent damage done.”

“Even though, I want to take you on a shopping spree after this whole wedding thing is over, okay? Or maybe I’ll give you the credit card and you and Maria can go. Would you rather that?”

“Sure Mom, sounds great,” Liz said, wanting the conversation to end. She wasn’t used to all this attention.

“Okay, sweetie. Oh, and Happy Birthday,” Nancy Parker added, hugging Liz again before turning around and announcing, “Let’s eat!”

PS. I was wondering if I should leave this story and end it where the movie ends with them getting together and start a sequal... or should I continue? I'm leaning more towards a sequal.

Big thank you to Angelic for her wonderful artistic skills! *big*

Since you guys have been so patient, lol, then here are two new parts for ya! Oh, Angelic, since you already read part seven then you may want to ignore this... I'll have a new part up for you soon! Oh, and thank you to everyone who congratulated me on the pregnancy. FYI,it's a little boy and we're naming it Nicolas Charles Gordon after his daddy.*happy* Okay, on with the story!!

Author's Note: BTW, this chapter is not meant in any way, shape or form to make fun of anyone who has or knows someone who has epilepsy, diabetes or any other serious problem. My only intent on using it in the story was to show how everyone feels that there family is a bunch of weirdos (I know I do lol) and so does Liz in this instance. So please don't be offended.

****CH 6b****

Liz picked at her food, not really paying any attention to the conversation going on around her.

So far everything had gone well, which was surprising since Liz’s uncle with epilepsy was attending the dinner and tended to have unexpected seizures.

She sighed, leaning her head on her hand as she imagined the dance in full swing, Max and Tess dancing together, everyone watching them, wanting to be them.

“So, Rosa, when do we get to meet this fellow of yours? What’s his name again? Dick?” Grandpa Eddie asked, shoveling a forkful of mashed potatoes into his mouth.

Rosa forced a smile. “No, Grandpa. His name is Nick, and you will all meet him tomorrow at the rehearsal.”

“Honestly, Edward! Can’t you even remember your own grandaughter’s fiance’s name?” Grandma Betty slapped him upside the head. “Have you taken your medicine today?”

“Don’t talk to me like that, woman!” Eddie grumbled.

Nancy Parker cleared her throat, trying to stop her parent’s from arguing before it got out of control. “So,” she asked, brightly, “anyone up for dessert?”

“I am!” Liz’s overweight and diabetic cousin Murphy exclaimed.

Liz rolled her eyes and gave Rosa a look like get-me-the-hell-outta-here. Rosa just smiled back and shrugged.

“So, Lizzie,” Grandma Betty asked, snapping Liz’s attention back to the conversation. “What about you? Are you seeing any nice young man?”

Liz gave a forced smile. Great, just what she wanted to talk about… her lack of a love life. She opened her mouth to respond, but her mother beat her to it.

“Liz isn’t seeing anybody, are you honey? She never dates,” Nancy added.

“What? A pretty girl like you,” Grandma Betty exclaimed in shock. “Why is that, Liz?”

“Maybe she’s one of those lesbeins,” Grandpa Eddie muttered, and Liz’s face turned three shades of red.

“Edward! That is no way to speak of your grandaughter! Liz is not a…a…”

“Carpet muncher?” Murphy asked, getting slapped on the head by his mother. “Hey, ow!!”

Liz hid her face in horror. Oh God… this was not happening.

“Dad! Liz is not a lesbien. She is just very careful of… of.. who she likes,” Nancy stammered, trying to change the subject. “She usually spends time with her friend Maria.”

“That must be her partner,” Grandpa Eddie whispered to his wife.
Liz cleared her throat and stood quickly, her mind made up. “Actually… um, I just remembered that I’m late for the dance,” she said hurriedly, picking up her plate.

She had to get out of there fast!!

“The dance? What dance? I don’t remember you mentioning anything about a dance,” Nancy Parker looked at her daughter in confusion.

“Oh, of course I mentioned it to you, mom. Um… it’s a very important dance…. For school. We’re… we’re being graded on it,” she blurted out, immediately feeling like an idiot.

Nancy gave Liz a skeptical look. “Graded on a dance?”

Liz bit her lip. Great, now how was she getting out of there?

“Well, Liz, if you’re leaving, then why don’t you take Murphy with you?” Grandma Betty asked happily as if it was the greatest idea in the world. “I don’t believe he gets out too much, either.”

Liz’s eyes widened in horror. “What! No, I… I can’t…”

“I think that’s a splendid idea, Liz,” her mother replied, smiling.

Liz gave Rosa a pleading look and Rosa sighed.

“Actually, Mom, I was planning on spending some quality time with good ol cousin Murph,” she said through gritted teeth, giving Liz a look that said you-owe-me.

Liz smiled brightly. “So can I go, Mom? Maria’s probably waiting for me.”

Nancy opened her mouth to protest, but saw Liz’s look and sighed. “Okay… but be back by one o’clock, okay! And I mean it!” she yelled as Liz squealed and starting running up the stairs.

“I told you, she’s one of those muff-divers,” Grandpa Eddie muttered again. “Always hanging out with some girl?”

Nancy Parker sighed and laid her head on the table. Why couldn’t SHE leave for a dance?

“So…” Maria asked as she watched Liz fiddle with her silver bracelet nervously. “When are you going to tell me what happened?”

Liz gave her a look. “You don’t want to know. Trust me…,” she cringed, remembering the awful experience from earlier in the evening.

She was so relieved that Maria hadn’t left yet and she had been able to reach her on the phone.

Liz glanced at Maria’s ice-blue slip dress and upswept hair and wondered if she looked alright.

She had worn the red dress Rosa had given her and she had to admit that it made her look a lot more grownup that she usually looked.

It showed off just the right amount of her cleavage and hugged all the right spots, making it seem as though Liz actually had curves.

To top it off, Maria had pulled Liz’s hair back into an elegant but fashionable french twist. A little makeup and jewelry completed her look.

“You look great, Liz,” Maria whispered, as if knowing her friend was feeling anxious.

“Thanks, so do you,” Liz smiled, feeling somewhat better about this whole thing.

“So, where’s your date tonight, Liz?” Michael asked from the front of the car. He had politely picked up Liz at the request of Maria and let the two girls sit in the backseat and talk on the way to the dance.

“Oh… I don’t have a date,” Liz admitted, feeling more stupid than ever before. What was she doing?? Was she planning on spending the whole evening with Maria and Michael? Michael was probably worried to death that she was going to ruin his chances.

“Going stag…. That’s cool. Done that plenty of times before,” Michael replied from the front seat. “I don’t normally go out on dates… but your friend here just has something special about her. I couldn’t say no,” he added, and Maria blushed.

Liz smiled at the interaction between the two. She was really happy for Maria because she could tell that they really liked each other. And Michael seemed like a really decent guy.

Of course, he was Max’s best friend and Max was a great guy.

“In fact, my friend Max doesn’t have a date tonight, either,” Michael added, and Liz looked up in surprise. “Maybe you two could hang out.”

“I thought Max was going with Tess Harding?” Liz asked, more confused than ever. Hadn’t she heard Tess say that? Or was she going crazy?

“I don’t think so. At least, Max never mentioned anything to me,” Michael replied. “Anyway, I’m sure he’d love to hang out with you.”

Liz bit her lip. What was going on? Max Evans’s best friend trying to hook her up with him?

“Yeah, maybe,” Liz murmured.

She started to feel a little stronger. Maybe she should go talk to Max. It wasn’t like he didn’t know who she was – in fact, she could use the whole biology notes thing to start a conversation.

Suddenly, Liz perked up and smiled.

Maybe this birthday would be special after all.

TBC The Dance…. be right back with it!!

**** CHAPTER 7 ****

Max glanced around the auditorium anxiously. Still no sign of her.

He had gotten a call from Michael earlier saying he was picking Liz up and they’d be there in about 30 minutes. But that was an hour ago.

He sighed and sat down on the bleachers. He really wanted to talk to Liz.

Ever since he had moved to Roswell, he hadn’t dated a single girl for the simple fact that he was in love with Liz Parker.

Of course, he hadn’t realized it was love… at first. He had thought it was simply an infatuation. He found her…. Extremely interesting.

But as the years went on and he continued to watch her, his fascination grew into something deeper.

He could still remember the day he realized he was in love with her.

Liz was giving a speech in English on the different influences of the Romantic Period and Max remembered watching the way she bit her lip when she was nervous… the way she constantly tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear…

And it hit him.

He loved her.

The thing was, he had no idea how to approach her about it. She seemed so shy that he was afraid of drawing un-needed attention her way. And Max Evans asking anyone out would definitely draw attention.

He was also afraid of hearing her response. What would you say if someone you hardly ever talked to approached you and blurted out, “Hi, remember me? We found that baby bird that time in third grade? Well, I’m in love with you.”

No. That wasn’t going to work.

Then she began dating some guy named Jesse. And Max was forced to watch as they laughed together in the Crashdown and hugged in the hallways.

He had eventually given up hope of ever having a relationship with Liz Parker. She and Jesse had broken up sometime after that, but every time Max had approached her, Liz had scampered off like she was scared to death of him.

But he couldn’t take it anymore. He had to be with her. He had to know what it felt like to wrap his arms around her and inhale her wondrous scent.

He was aching to know what her lips tasted like… how her soft her skin felt…

He swallowed hard, not letting his mind take him where it REALLY wanted to go just then. He would have to continue that thought later on when there weren’t so many people around.

“Max! There you are! I’ve been looking all over for you! Have you been hiding from me?” Tess shook her finger flirtaciously.

Max groaned inwardly and forced a smile. “Of course not, Tess. How are you?”

“I’m great! I’ve already had… hiccup… six glasses of punch,” she beamed, obviously feeling tipsy. “It’s reeeeal good!”

Great, Max thought. She was trashed and he was going to have to deal with her?

“Let’s dance, Maxie Pooh,” Tess giggled as she took Max’s arm and drug him out onto the dance floor before he could protest.

“Tess… are you feeling alright? I mean… are you sure you don’t want someone to take you home?” Max asked, worried that Tess might repeat her last drunken bout and throw up all over him.

Tess batted her eyelashes at him. “Of course I want you to take me home, Max. But for now… LET”S BOOGIE!”

She began dancing wildly, running her hands up and down her body, sliding her slinky dress up as she did so.

At that particular time, Michael entered the gym, followed by Maria and Liz. He caught sight of his friend and rolled his eyes at Tess’s antics.

Liz stared in shock at the sight of Max and Tess obviously flirting on the dance floor.

Max said something she couldn’t make out and Tess laughed and ran her hands over his chest.

Liz felt sick to her stomach. Why had she come to this dance, again? All her earlier convictions of talking to Max flew out the window and she walked over and sat down on the bleachers.

“Chica, you okay?” Maria asked worriedly.

Liz gave a small smile. “Yeah, go ahead with Michael. You guys have fun.”

Maria looked doubtful, but Liz shooed her away and Michael grabbed her arm and led her out on the floor.

As they danced near Max, Michael leaned over and whispered in his ear, “What are you doing with Tess?”

Max gave him a look. “She’s drunk and won’t leave me alone.”

Michael laughed and danced away, Max scowling after him. His eyes searched the gym and immediately locked with Liz’s.

She was staring right at him with the saddest look he had ever seen on her face. The second she realized he was looking at her, she averted her eyes to her hands and began playing with her bracelet.

“…party. Don’t you think?”

Max nodded at Tess, not listening to a single word that came out of her mouth. He wanted to go over and talk to Liz, but first he had to get rid of Tess. At that moment, the song ended and Max pulled away from Tess’s grip.

“Um.. I have to go,” he said, walking off in Liz’s direction.

“Wait, where are you going? MAX!” Tess huffed, stomping her foot as she watched through blurry vision as Max walked over to the bleachers.

Liz didn’t see him coming, she was so involved in not looking at him. Until she heard a deep voice.

“That’s a pretty bracelet.”

Startled, Liz looked up to see Max Evans smiling down at her. In that split second she appraised his appearance.

He looked gorgeous as always… wearing a pair of khaki’s and a tight black shirt that opened at the collar.

She swallowed hard. “Um… thanks. It was a present,” she choked out.

“Well, as interesting as it is… would you like to dance anyway?” Max offered, holding out his hand to her.

Liz’s eyes widened. Max Evans… was asking HER to dance? Oh God! What should she say? What should she DO? What if…

“Sure!” she blurted out, then mentally kicked herself. Great, now he probably thought she was desperate.

But to her surprise, Max smiled and led her out to the floor. Liz was in a daze as she felt Max’s strong but gentle grip on her hand.

Suddenly, I Shall Believe by Sheryl Crowe began to play and Liz gasped in surprise.

“This is my favorite song!”

Max smiled, “Yeah, it’s really good.”

“You listen to Sheryl Crowe?” Liz asked doubtfully.

“Hey, I have a sister, you know,” Max grinned and Liz giggled.

She couldn’t believe it! Here she was, slow dancing with MAX EVANS to her favorite song and they were actually having a conversation.

Max placed his arms around Liz’s hips and she tensed slightly. Then, with a deep breath she slowly brought her arms to rest around his neck.

She stared into his amber eyes in wonder. Was this really happening? It seemed like a dream…

“I… uh, wanted to thank you for the bio notes,” Max said in a husky voice.

“Oh…” Liz nodded, now understanding the reason behind his offer. This was just a thank you. “You’re welcome.”

Max swallowed, realizing she had taken it the wrong way. “I mean… well, what I wanted to say was…”

“Mind if I cut in?” a voice snapped.

Max cursed inwardly as Tess practically pushed Liz out of the way and took her place in Max’s arms.

“Why did you run off, Max? I thought we were having fun?” Tess purred, running her hands through his hair.

Liz stood there in shock. She didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Did that just happen?

“Tess! What are you doing?” Max asked angrily, giving Liz an apologetic look. “I was in the middle of something…”

“What? With that Leah girl? Look, Max. You can play save-the-charity-case later, okay? We need to talk about this party…”

Tess continued to ramble on as Liz’s eyes began to fill with tears. She had never felt so embarrassed in her life. Tess was talking about her like she wasn’t even there.

She turned on her heel and ran out the room, refusing to let Max or Tess see her cry. She was NOT going to give them the benefit. A charity case? Was that what she was to him?

“Liz!” Max shouted as she ran off, but she didn’t hear him over the music. That or she was ignoring him. He looked back down at Tess. “Why did you do that?”

Tess gave him an incredulous look. “Do WHAT? Why were you dancing with that mouse, anyway?”

Max sighed in frustration. Now what was he going to do?

TBC hehehehehe.....

Okay, I know I just posted... but I'm really anxious to get more into the Max/Liz interaction since most of the story has been transitional. So here ya go!!

****CHAPTER 8 ****

Liz stared at herself in the mirror, her eye makeup beginning to run. Great. Now not only did she feel awful, but she looked like a raccoon.

She yanked a kleenex out of the tissue box on the counter of the girl’s restroom and began dabbing at her puffy eyes.

“Well, can’t pretend you’re surprised, Liz,” she muttered to herself. “You should have known this would happen. Why do you keep doing this to yourself?”

The reflection in the mirror just stared back at her, not saying a word.

“I’ll tell you why. Because you’re an idiot! A stupid ass who cannot see what’s right in front of her face!” she yelled angrily. “MAX EVANS DOES NOT WANT YOU!!! Get it through your thick head!!”

She stood in front of the sink, clutching the tissue with shaking hands. “You’re not good enough for him. Just get over it,” she sobbed, dropping to the floor and hugging her knees.

Just then the bathroom door opened. Liz looked up and to her horror Tess Harding walked in with three of her groupies.

Tess looked at her and smirked, walking up to the counter and pulling out a compact. Liz wondered if she was going to say anything to her, but Tess just acted like she wasn’t there.

“So, I’ve decided that tonight’s the night,” Tess spoke airily, patting her nose gently with her powder. “Tonight I’ll give Max what he’s been begging for.”

The three groupies squealed in excitement.

“You’re really going to sleep with him, Tess?” Pam Troy asked in envy.

“Wow… he’s sooo sexy. You are so lucky,” Trina Prescott added, looking at Tess in amazement.

Tess just smiled. “I know. Tonight, Max Evans won’t know what hit him.”

Liz gulped and stood up, preparing to walk out the door, when Tess spoke.

“So, Liz, are you coming to the party?”

Liz turned back around, looking at Tess uncertainly. “What party?”

Tess smiled, but Liz could see the fakeness beind it. “The after party at the Evans’s house. You should come. It’s going to be a hell of a night.”

With that, she laughed and Liz turned and walked out the door.

Max stared out across the floor, watching the couples dance to the love song was playing. He could still feel Liz in his arms and her scent permeated his clothing.

He sighed in frustration, remembering how she had run off after Tess’s nasty comment. After escaping from Tess’s clutches, he had gone to find her but she was nowhere in sight.

Had he blown his only chance with her? Surely she wouldn’t want to see him after that interlude.

God, he could strangle Tess Harding! Who did she think she was anyway? Well, he knew what she wasn’t, and that was his girlfriend.

And he planned on letting her know that tonight.

In fact, that was the only reason he had agreed to have this stupid party and take Tess home.

Of course, she probably thought otherwise, judging from the pleased smile that had crossed her face when he had agreed.

Well, she would be singing a different tune tonight after he got done with her.

“Hey, Max. Where’s Tess?” Michael smirked as he plopped down next to his friend.

Max glared at him. “Very funny. I’ll have you know I was this close to telling Liz how I felt about her, and then that… girl…”

Michael’s eyes scanned the auditorium. “Hey, where IS Liz?”

Max sighed. “I don’t know,” he admitted. “Tess said something to her and she ran off. I couldn’t find her anywhere.”

“Great. Maria’s gonna kill me for letting her talk to you,” Michael joked and Max gave him another death look.

Just then, Maria stalked up to the two… followed by a more composed Liz. She tapped Michael on the shoulder.

“We’re leaving,” she said, giving Max an evil look.

Max stood up. “Liz…”

She wouldn’t look him in the eyes. She refused to let herself get hurt again. So she stared instead at the wall.

Max swallowed, seeing the wall Liz had put up around her. He hung his head sadly.

“NOW, Michael,” Maria said, taking hold of his arm and dragging him across the gym.

Liz looked up and caught Max’s eyes.

See the stone set in your eyes… see the thorn twist in your side…
I wait for you…

Max stared back at her, his eyes piercing her soul.

Sleight of hand and twist of fate… on a bed of nails she makes me wait…
And I wait… without you..
With or without you…

Around them, people danced to U2’s With or Without you, but Max and Liz just continued to stare at each other, neither saying a word.

Liz knew she should turn and leave, but Max’s gaze held her in place. Why was he looking at her like that?

Max was getting completely lost in Liz’s deep brown eyes. He knew that people were watching them in confusion, but he didn't care. All he could think about was holding Liz again.

“Liz, you coming?” Maria asked, turning to look at her friend.

Liz let out the breath she had been holding. “Yeah, I’m coming…”

She turned and followed Maria and Michael out of the gym, leaving Max staring after her.

Okay, I've finally finished the next part. Had a bit of writer's block and a ton of other junk going on... but here it is! This chapter may seem kind of short, but the next one will be much better in more ways than one! *big* Anyway, here ya go!

**** CHAPTER 9 ****

Liz hopped out of Michael’s car when they reached the CrashDown. There was a slight chill in the air and she wrapped her arms around herself.

“So, you’re sure you don’t want to go to the party?” Maria asked, eyeing Liz carefully. “It’s not too late, you know.”

Liz smiled and shook her head. “No. I think I’ve had enough fun for one night. I just want to go upstairs and take a long hot bath and pretend this day never happened.”

Maria smiled sympathetically at her best friend. She had seen the way Tess had been all over Max all night and could understand why Liz wouldn’t want to see it any more than she had to. “You want me to stay? We could stay up and make sundae’s.”

“No, go on with your date. And have fun,” Liz added. Her night had been ruined. But there was no way she would ruin Michael and Maria’s date.

Maria still didn’t look convinced, but got back in the car. “If you’re sure…”

“Yes! Go! “ Liz laughed, shoving her friend the rest of the way in the car.

“Call you later?” Maria asked as Michael cranked the car.

Liz nodded. “I’ll be up.”

Maria smiled and waved as they pulled out the Crashdown parking lot, leaving Liz standing there by herself.

She sighed and started the walk up to her apartment.

Max glanced over at Tess as they drove to his house. She was giggling uncontrollably and hanging her head out the window like a dog.

Max rolled his eyes in disgust. The girl definitely could NOT hold her liquor.

“So, Tess..” Max began, trying to find the best way to bring up the conversation he’d been wanting to have with the blonde girl all night.

“Oh, Maxie Pooh! I’m so glad we’re going to your house!” Tess giggled. “Maybe we could get it on!”

Tess reached over and plopped her hand drunkenly between Max’s thighs. His eyes bulged and he quickly removed her hand from his lap.

Tess giggled again. “You’re so shy, Max. But tonight….” She wiggled her eyebrows and fell into another fit of giggles.

Max sighed, wondering if Tess would even understand him when he told her he wanted nothing to do with her.

When they got to the Evans’s house, the party already seemed to be in full swing. Cars filled the driveway and some were even parked in the front lawn.

“Woo hoo!! Party!!” Tess yelled, stumbling in her heels as she walked up to the front porch.

Isabel saw Max enter and quickly ran over to him. “Who are these people??” she shouted over the loud music.

Max shook his head. “I have no idea!”

Isabel looked over his shoulder and frowned when she saw Tess standing behind him. “What are you doing with her?” she asked, not bothering to hide her contempt.

“Oh, HI Isabel,” Tess smirked, “where’s your geeky date?”

Max drug Tess out of the way before Isabel could slug her and led her away from the crowded living room.

“Oh! I love this song!” Tess began jumping up and down and shaking her head as “The Middle” by Jimmy Eat World came on.

“Tess, please,” Max groaned, as she tripped and knocked over an expensive vase of his mother’s.

“Whoops,” Tess giggled. “I fell down.”

Max ran his fingers through his hair in frustration. He didn’t have time for this. “Listen, Tess… I don’t know how to tell you this, but I don’t want to date you. Not now, not ever.”

He stared at her, expecting her to protest, but she just laughed.

“Wow… I see two Max’s…” she hiccuped, laughing hysterically.

“Do you hear me, Tess? I’m not your boyfriend and I never will be. So could you please leave me the hell alone!” Max replied.

“Oh, don’t be a poop, Max. You don’t mean that. Are you mad because I invited all these people?”

Max stared at her incredulously. Then he turned around and walked off.

Tess frowned. Where was he going. “Max… wait…” she tried to follow him, but her vision was too blurry and she ended up running into a guy who was carrying a plate of jello shots.

As her head hit the plate, Tess passed out onto the floor.

“Man, I want to see what it’ll look like first,” Bobby Stevens laughed.

He and Toby White were sitting on the couch drinking. They were two of the biggest potheads at West Roswell and showed up at every party, invited or not.

“I’m telling you man, chicks dig it,” Toby replied, speaking of his newly shaved head. “It don’t hurt or nothing. Just takes a few minutes.”

Bobby still looked unconvinced as he ran his hands through his long tresses. “I don’t know, dude… I haven’t had a haircut in ten years.”

Toby looked around and his eyes fell on a blonde girl who was passed out on the floor. His eyes brightened as he turned back to Bobby.

“Wait, I think I have an idea.”

Liz stepped out of the bathroom and pulled on a bathrobe. She picked up her brush and pulled it through her hair.

Her sixteenth birthday had definitely not turned out the way she had thought it would.

She sighed and walked over to her dresser, pulling out a comfy pair of pajama pants and a tank top.

“Liz, honey, are you back already?” Nancy asked, knocking softly on the door.

“Come in, Mom,” Liz replied, pulling her wet hair into a ponytail. “The dance wasn’t that great,” she mumbled.

“I’m sorry, honey. Maybe the next one will be better,” her mom answered.

“Yeah, maybe,” Liz replied doubtfully. She didn’t plan on going to another dance as long as she lived.

“Liz, I just wanted to let you know that your grandparent’s are going to be staying in your room tonight. I hope you don’t mind.”

Liz sighed. That meant she would be sleeping on the couch. What a perfect end to a perfect day. “Sure, whatever.”

Nancy sensed a hint of disappointment in her daughter’s voice, but decided not to question her about it just then.

“Well, I made the sofa up for you. Goodnight sweetie. And happy birthday,” she added, kissing Liz on the forehead.
“Night, mom,” Liz replied, watching as her mother left the room. After she was gone, she walked over to the doors that led out to her balcony.

She stared out at the night sky scattered with stars, wondering when she would ever feel at home.

Max shut his door, blocking some of the noise from downstairs. Sighing slightly, he walked over and fell on his bed in exhaust.

What a night.

He had hoped it would end differently, with him telling Liz how he felt and her telling him that she felt the same way and them coming back to his house and….

Well, maybe that last part had been more of a desire than a hope. But he had wanted to spend some time with her tonight.

Instead, things had gone horribly wrong.

He reached over and opened the top drawer of his nightstand, reaching inside and withdrawing a folded piece of paper.

As he read the familiar words again, he couldn’t help but get a rush of excitement.

He had seen Courtney pass Liz the note during study hall and then Liz attempt to pass it to Maria after filling it out.

Max had been dying of curiosity and when he’d spied Maria sleeping, he’d waited until after the bell rang and casually picked the note up on his way out.

After reading it, he’d felt a burst of desire and surprise as he realized that Liz did have feelings for him.

He only hoped tonight hadn’t ruined it.

He sat staring at the paper for another few minutes, and then he made his decision.

He picked up his West Roswell High directory and looked up Liz’s name.

He would just call her and apologize. Right. He could do this. He was Max Evans, after all. No girl would ever say no to him.

Of course, he’d never actually been in the position to be rejected.

“Just shut up and do it,” he bit out through gritted teeth.

His fingers shook nervously as he dialed the numbers.

Oh God. It was ringing.

Max’s breath hitched as the phone was picked up.

Max frowned as he heard the voice. It didn’t sound like Liz. The female voice on the other end sounded… older. Much older.

He’d thought Liz had her own telephone line.

“Hello?” the voice asked again, sounding more irritated. Max realized he’d been sitting there in silence.

Finding his voice again, he replied, “Um.. is Liz Parker there?”

“She most certaintly is not,” the voice said in indignation. And then Max heard the phone click and he was met with dead air.

He sat there stunned for a moment, then pressed redial.

“Hello?” the voice said again, sounding even more irritated than before.

“Yes, I’m sorry, but may I please speak with Liz?” Max said again, trying his best to sound like an upstanding young man.

“Listen here, sonny,” the voice crackled. “I don’t know who you boys think you are these days, but my granddaughter does not associate with the likes of you. Do not call here again or I will call the police!”

With that, she promptly hung the phone up again and Max could only sputter in wonderment.

Betty Parker slammed the phone down on its receiver and turned back towards her husband, who was looking at her in question.

What did they want?” Edward Parker asked, sliding back underneath the heavy blankets on his granddaughter’s bed.

Betty stared at the wall, her lips a grim line.

**** CHAPTER 10 ****

Tess Harding moaned, turning over and shielding her eyes from the bright light of the living room lamp.

She sat up carefully, still feeling the effects from the alcohol she had consumed. She opened her eyes, squinting at the sight before her.

Beer cans, pizza boxes, and other trash covered the Evans’s living room floor, along with people who had passed out.

Isabel Evans stood in the corner, muttering to herself as she picked up trash and deposited it into a half-full garbage sack.

Tess smiled evilly as she watched, then walked over to where Isabel stood.

“So, Izzy… you look pretty comfortable picking up after other people. Maybe you should consider working at the Crashdown as a waitress or something,” she laughed.

Isabel frowned when she heard the smug voice behind her. She stood up, brushing the nonexistant dust from her designer jeans and stood to face Tess.

“You know what, Tess,” she began, then got a good look at the girl standing in front of her.

Tess continued to smile as she heard Isabel began to retort, but was surprised when the blonde burst out laughing.

“OH… MY… GOD!!!” Isabel gasped, as she doubled over in laughter. All she could do was point at Tess and shake her head.

Tess frowned, not understanding what Isabel was doing. “What is your deal?” she snapped, crossing her arms across her chest.

Isabel wiped a tear from her eye as she continued to crack up. “Oh Tess…” she laughed, then turned away from her and walked up the stairs, leaving behind a fuming Tess.

“You are such a freak, Isabel!” Tess called after her. She rolled her eyes in disgust at the snort that came from Isabel before she slammed the door to her room.

Tess hated not understanding what was going on, and Isabel knew it. She was just trying to piss her off.

That had to be it.

She turned around in annoyance, determined to find Max. She couldn’t remember anything that had happened after they had left from the dance, but she knew that she was supposed to have seduced the sexy young man tonight, and she would do it if it was the last thing she did.

She headed towards the staircase hat led to the upstairs bedrooms, when a sudden flash of pain coursed through her head.

“Ouch,” she muttered, realizing she must have hit her head on something. “I hope it doesn’t leave a bump.”

She reached up to check, expecting her fingers to come into contact with soft, golden tresses.

Her eyes widened when all she felt was… nothing.

“What the hell?” she squealed, bringing both her hands up to run over her head.

Where her hair should have been, there was nothing.

She looked around frantically, spotting a mirror on the wall and ran over to it.

“This must be some kind of joke,” she said, then she looked in the mirror and screamed.

All her hair had been shaved off, and obviously by someone with no experience.

They had left little uneven patches of hair around her forehead and over her ears.

She looked like a cancer patient.

Tess screamed again and ran out the Evans’s house, her arms wrapped around her head.

Max awoke the next morning, feeling unsettled.

He looked down and realized that he was still wearing the same clothes he had been wearing the night before.

He stretched his neck and glanced at the time on the clock. Its bright numbers revealed that it was close to ten o’clock.

He fell back against the bed, remembering the events from the night before.

The dance, Tess, then calling Liz.

That had been a disaster. After Liz’s grandmother had ung up on him for the second time, Max had admitted defeat.

For now anyway.

But as he looked out the window and saw the sun shining brightly into his room, he smiled.

Today was a new day, and a new chance to make Liz his.

He jumped out of bed and took a quick shower, then threw on a pair of nylon running pants and a T-shirt and grabbed his car keys and jumped into his Jeep.

He would find Liz and tell her how he felt if it was the last thing he ever did.

“So, how was your date last night?” Liz asked, wiping down the counter with a damp cloth.

Maria smiled, straightening the silver headband on her head and sighed dreamily. “It was good…”

Liz smiled knowingly. “Just good, huh?”

Maria giggled as she realized that her friend was laughing at her giddiness. “Oh, Liz! Michael’s so amazing! We had so much fun last night! I think he really likes me!”

Liz was really happy for her friend, even though she still felt a little envious considering how things had turned out for her.

Maria noticed her friend’s look, and was determined to make it better. “Oh, by the way… Michael told me some interesting things about Max last night,” she said casually.

Liz looked up and tried to appear casual. “Oh really? Like what?”

Maria smiled, knowing Liz was trying not to appear interested, but failing miserably.

“Oh, you know, what kind of girls he likes…”

Liz rolled her eyes. “Yeah, Tess Harding.”

“No way! Michael told me for a fact that Max can’t stand Tess Harding, that she’s been after him for years and he’s tried nicely to let her know he’s not interested.”

“Yeah, he was trying real hard last night,” Liz snorted, thinking back to the way that Max and Tess had been all over each other on the dance floor.

“Anyway, Michael said that Max has had his eye on a particular girl since he moved here in third grade and that’s why he hasn’t dated anyone!” Maria continued.

Liz raised her eyebrows in interest. “Well, why the hell isn’t she with him? Is she crazy?”

“She doesn’t know,” Maria responded. “Michael told me that Max is really shy and won’t really talk about her to anyone. The only way Michael knows is because he overheard Max dreaming about her one night.”

“Dreaming about her?” Liz gulped, not sure if they should be talking about Max’s sexual dreams behind his back.

“Yeah, something about a bird they found together and Romantic period literature?” Maria babbled, flipping her hand as she talked. “Michael said he sounded totally infatuated with her and… Liz? Are you okay?”

Liz’s face had turned white and she had stopped wiping the table after Maria’s last statement.

She had a sudden flash back in third grade when Max had first come to Roswell and she had been playing on the playground.

Max had been off in the corner by himself, staring at something, when Liz walked up and asked him if he was okay. He had shown her the baby bird that’s leg was broken and they had both carried it to their teacher who had helped fix it.

Liz then remembered reading her assignment on Romantic style literature in English and catching Max staring at her.

At the time, she had assumed he was paying attention to her presentation, but if what Maria was saying was true…

Could it be?

Liz snapped out of her daydream and found Maria staring at her in concern. “Huh? Wha.. what did you say?”

“Are you alright, chica? You totally spaced out there,” Maria said.

Liz shook her head. “I’m fine, Maria. I was just thinking about what you said.”

“Oh,” Maria said, her concerns evaporating. “So, what do you think? Who is this mystery girl?”

Liz opened her mouth to answer, when the jingle sounded, signaling that someone had entered the Crashdown.

The two girls looked over to find Max Evans standing in the doorway, his eyes searching the café anxiously.

Liz’s breath caught in her throat when his eyes fell on her and he began walking in their direction.

TBC!!! Aren't I evil?

**** CHAPTER 11 ****

Liz’s mind was whirling with the information that Maria had just spilled and the fact that Max Evans was now walking purposefully towards her.

He ignored the looks and greetings from various people as he strode towards his goal, his eyes never once leaving Liz’s.

Liz gulped as he got closer and she saw the strange glint in his eyes, causing her to grip the counter behind her so hard her knuckles began turning white.

When Max reached the two girls, he nodded his head in acknowledgement. “Hi, Maria.”

Maria looked between the two, her blue eyes sparkling with interest. “Um.. hey, Max. How’s it going?”

Max didn’t bother answering, instead he took hold of Liz’s arm. “I need to talk to you,” he said in a low voice.

Liz bit her lip, glancing at Maria who was trying to hide her grin. Her eyes flicked back to Max’s earnest ones and she opened her mouth to respond. “O.. Okay…”

Max nodded and began walking towards the back stock room, his hand still circled around Liz’s wrist.

Liz followed behind him, her eyes finding Maria’s as she walked through the door.

Maria gave her a thumbs up and winked as Liz swallowed and the door closed behind her.

Maria chuckled and turned around to find everyone in the café watching the exchange in disbelief and curiosity.

“What, what, what? You people never heard of a quickie before? Mind your own business,” she snapped, eyeing everyone carefully.

Several people gasped and began whispering amongst themselves while others stared at each other incredulously.

Maria grinned and shook her head, her eyes falling on the stock room door.

“Um… Max, what’s going on?” Liz finally asked after Max had locked the door and turned around to stare at her.

She nervously tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and looked everywhere but at Max’s face.

Max stared in wonder at her. God, she was so beautiful. He was so intent on basking in her presence that he didn’t even register the question until Liz bit her bottom lip again.

He groaned unconsiously, wishing he was that lip as she ran her tongue across it.

When he met her questioning gaze, he shook himself out of his daze and cleared his throat.

“I.. I just wanted to return these,” he said hoarsely, holding out a notebook.

Liz raised an eyebrow and took it. “You drug me into the back room in the middle of rush hour to give me back my bio notes?”

Max nodded and then realized how stupid that sounded. “Well, no, actually…”

Liz took a hesitant step forward. “Is everything all right?” she asked, placing a gentle hand on Max’s forearm.

At the feel of her soft skin on him, Max groaned again and his control snapped. Everything he had planned to say to her flew out the window and he reached out and pulled her to him, ignoring the surprised gasp that came from her lips.

Liz barely had time to register what was happening, when Max’s lips were suddenly upon hers.

“Oh.. Liz…” he whispered, his lips softly caressing hers with a gentle urgency. His arms encased her and pulled her closer to him as his tongue ran over her lower lip. Begging her to open up to him.

Liz moaned as she felt his hot lips devouring her and she brought her arms up to encircle his neck, opening her mouth and allowing him more access.

Max couldn’t believe the feelings that were running through him. Pure esctasy. He wanted nothing more than to lift her in his arms and carry her up to her room and show her properly just how much he wanted her, but even in his delirious state he knew it wasn’t the time.

Instead, he pulled back gently, suckling her lower lip between kiss and releasing it softly as he ended their first kiss.

He opened his eyes and his breath left him once more at the sight of Liz.

She was standing there, her mouth still partly open, her eyes closed and her cheeks flushed.

He felt himself become even more aroused as he took in her appearance. Finally, her eyelids fluttered open and she stared at him in shock.

“Max?” she whispered, her eyes locking onto his, the dazed look still upon her face.

“Liz… there’s so much I need to tell you. But now isn’t the time,” he added softly, reaching out and cupping her face.

Liz sighed and leaned into it, her face turning upwards to look him more in the eye.

Max gave her a small smile. “Is there anyway I can see you tonight?” he asked earnestly, his amber eyes boring deeply into her chocolate ones.

Liz nodded, gazing at him in awe. Then she frowned slightly. “No.”

Max’s smile faltered. “No, I can’t see you tonight?”

Liz shook her head. “Yes. I mean, no… my sister’s wedding rehearsal dinner is tonight.”

Max nodded his head in realization and smiled again. “Oh, okay. Well, then what about tomorrow?”

Liz shook her head again, her thoughts whirling around her as she attempted to get herself back under control. The way he was looking at her…

Max raised an eyebrow. “No, I can’t see you tomorrow?” he asked, a faint grin on his sexy lips.

Liz nodded, then shook her head. God, what was wrong with her? I’ll give you a clue, her inner voice spoke up, you just got passionately kissed by the guy you’ve been in love with for seven years! Of course you’re bound to be a little tongue tied.

“No, I mean, I’m not going to the dinner,” Liz replied, her cheeks blushing prettily.

A huge grin broke out on Max’s face. “Oh. So I’ll see you tonight?”

Liz smiled and nodded.

“Great. I’ll pick you up at seven,” Max replied, leaning over and capturing her lips with his one more time.

He pulled back and gave her another smile that made her knees weaken and then he turned and left the room, turning one last time to smile at her.

After the door shut, Liz’s legs gave out and she slid onto the couch, clutching the notebook to her chest.

Did that really just happen? Did she actually have a quasi-date with MAX EVANS??

The memory of that kiss flew into her mind and Liz reached up and gingerly touched her lips, remembering the feel of Max against her.

And a slow smile broke across her face.

Oh yeah. It was definitely real.

She let out a little squeal and fell back against the couch, her mind replaying the last ten minutes of her life.

Suddenly, she heard a knock on the door and she lifted her head to look as Maria’s blonde head poked through the opening.

“Hey, you still in here chica?”

Liz could see the curiosity filling her friend’s eyes and the huge smile on her face. She stood up and began walking towards Maria, when she noticed a piece of paper that had fallen out of her biology notebook.

She frowned in confusion as she opened the folded paper, and then her eyes widened and a hand flew to her mouth as she read the words….

A/N*** Okay, I know that probably sucked big time, huh? I guess I’m not as good at writing Max/Liz love scenes as I had hoped. I was planning on turning this into an NC 17 fic, but I’m feeling a little skeptical now after writing this part. What do you guys think? FEEDBACK PLEASE!!!!!

Okay, I'm in the process of writing the next part right now and I needed to ask a few questions:

1. I was following the 16 candles theme until recently and I'm nearing the part where the movie would have ended. So what I'm asking is should I continue and make it one long fic or make a sequal? I already asked this before but I don't think I got much FB.

2. I didn't get much feedback on this chapter.. so does that mean you guys think I should just stick to PG instead of NC17? I'll do whatever you guys want... I just don't want to disappoint.

3. Should I make Tess fall down and break her neck? LOL! JK, I am just feeling a little gerbil hatred right now!*big**big*

Anyway, PLEASE let me know what you guys think. I'm starting to wonder if I should even continue this fic and give everyone some peace!

*wipes tear* Aw... you guys are so great!! OKay, I've decided that the overwhelming concensus is to go for NC-17 baby!!!! BTW, since this is my first time to write that and my beta is gone for now (sad!!) would someone mind reading the NC17 parts for me before I post them to make sure they're good? Oh, and I'm just going to make this one long fic, so it probably won't be following the movie anymore! Love you guys!!

Okay.. surprise!!!! I'm back already and with a new part!*big*

Also, thank you Angelic!! I will bmail you the parts when I write them, k?

Hey, as a sidenote... if any of you like challenges, I just wrote one on the discussion board. I think it will be really good so go check it out! Okay, on with the goods! More may be coming today...

**** CHAPTER 12-A****

“What’s wrong?” Maria asked, seeing the surprised look in Liz’s eyes as she studied a piece of paper in her hands.

Liz couldn’t answer, she was too intent on the words before her.

Dear Liz,

If you’re reading this, then it means that I must not have had the courage to do what I set out to do today - telling you how I feel about you.
Yes, I know you’re probably wondering why Max Evans would be afraid of anything. Well… I’m not what everyone thinks I am. I have hopes and dreams that I have never told anyone about, not even Michael or Isabel. Everyone thinks that I’m this jock and all I know how to do is drink beer and play football. But that’s not the real me. The real Max just wants one thing. And that one thing happens to be… you. I know you probably don’t believe me, but I’ve been in love with you ever since I can remember. Everything about you is perfect… and I’ve wanted to tell you this for as long as I can remember, but like I said… I’m a little shy. I realize that there is a very real chance that you don’t feel the same way, but it doesn’t change my feelings. I just wanted you to know… in case I chickened out. You are the only person I’ve ever wanted to tell my secrets to, Liz Parker, and I only hope you will give me the chance to make your dreams come true. Just let me in.

Love always,

Max Evans

PS. Happy Birthday!!!

Liz’s eyes gleamed with unshed tears as she read the end of the letter. She couldn’t describe the feelings flowing through her at the moment.

Max Evans…. Loved her? Why? What had she, mousy Liz Parker, ever done to deserve anyone as perfect as Max Evans to love her?

Liz was pondering the thought so hard, that she didn’t hear Maria call her name until the third time.

Liz finally broke out of her daze and her eyes focused on her best friends frowning face. “What?”

“What are you reading?” Maria asked curiously, taking a step forward.

Liz immediately slipped the note into the pocket in her apron and tried to look non-chalant.

“Nothing important,” she said, clearing her throat and refusing to meet Maria’s eyes.

Maria raised an eyebrow, feeling a little hurt that Liz was hiding something from her. “Sure, Liz.”

Liz heard her friend’s wounded tone and immediately felt bad. “I’m sorry Maria. It’s not that I don’t want to tell you… it’s just that… well, it’s kinda…” she bit her lip, trying to find a good explanation.

“Personal?” Maria finished, and Liz nodded anxiously. Maria gave a small smile, realizing that Liz must have a good reason to be keeping the letter from her. “Okay, well, you ready to head back out there?”

She motioned to the café and Liz sighed and nodded, straightening the silver antenna on her head.

As they walked out, Maria asked innocently, “So… what did Max Evans have to say?”

Liz’s step faltered and Maria grinned behind her. “Oh, uh… he wanted to… he wanted to know if I wanted to get together later,” she said casually.

She tried to hide her smile when Maria squealed and began rambling, “I KNEW it! I knew it, I knew it! He totally has the hots for you, girl!”

Liz giggled at her friend’s excited behavior. “Maria! Calm down! You’re going to cause my dad to have to re-tile the floors!”

Maria stopped bouncing up and down and stuck her tongue out at Liz. “Well, excuuuuse me! See if I pray for Max Evans to kiss you now!” she teased.

When Liz blushed and refused to look at her, Maria’s eyes narrowed. “Liz? Is there something you aren’t telling your dearest, bestest friend in the whole world? Huh, chica?”

Liz smiled brightly, her cheeks flushed. “Well…”

That was all she had to say.

Maria began squealing again and resumed her bouncing. Liz just giggled as the customers began giving them weird looks.

TBC sorry so short… I’ll have the other part out soon. I just wanted to post this before my computer shuts down on me, lol! Hope you like!

****Chapter 12-b****

“What do you mean you aren’t going to the dinner?” Nancy Parker asked, her eyebrows raised.

Liz gave her mother a pleading look. “Please Mom… I’ve already suffered enough with the family. I really like this boy and I really want to go out. It’s just a date! We’ll be back by curfew.”

Nancy was still skeptical, but since she was still feeling guilty about forgetting her daughter’s birthday, she finally agreed. “Fine. But be home by one. And not a minute later,”she warned.

Liz squealed and threw her arms around her mother’s neck. “Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!! I love you Mom! I’ve got to go call Maria! Yikes! What am I gonna wear??”

Nancy watched in amusement as her youngest daughter continued to babble to herself as she bounded up the stairs to her room.

She had never seen Liz act this… carefree. She didn’t know who this mystery boy was, but if he was capable of causing such a change in her normally closed off daughter, than he was definitely worth meeting.

“Maria, I’m having a crisis here! I have nothing to wear!” Liz groaned in the phone as she sifted through her closet.

“Okay, calm down chica. Deep cleansing breaths. Imagine yourself in a placid pool, placid pool, placid pool…”

Liz rolled her eyes. “Maria! Enough of the psycho-babble! I’m having a CRISIS!!”

“Okay, okay! Geez, just trying to help,” Maria babbled. “Hey, what about that yellow sundress?”

“Nah, it makes my skin look yellow,” Liz said, biting her lower lip nervously. She glanced at the clock and blanched when she saw that it was already a quarter after six. She was never going to be ready in time!

“Green skirt and white blouse?”

“I already wore that skirt this week,” Liz reminded her friend, feeling her frustration taking hold on her.

“Okay, okay… hold on… oh! I’ve got it! Wear that denim skirt you have with that cute red cardigan. Max will die!”

Liz bit her lip, thinking. “You don’t think it’s too causal?”

“Nah, and anyways, it can go either way. Casual or dressey. Ooh, and wear your hair long. I heard Max likes long hair.”

“Okay, well, I’ve gotta go. Thanks for helping, Ria!”

“No prob, girl. Just don’t forget to call me and tell me everything when you get back!”

Liz laughed, a few of her butterflies dissapating. “I promise. I should be back by one.”

“I’ll be waiting. Bye,” Maria said before hanging up.

Liz hung up her phone and walked back to her closet, withdrawing the outfit Maria had suggested.

She held the skirt up to her and posed.

It was tight and came to about mid-length and was slit on either side. Perfect.

She hurriedly got dressed, thanking the lord that she had already taken her shower and all she had left was her makeup and hair.

An hour later, she looked in the mirror and was happy with her reflection. She hoped Max would feel the same way.

Just then, the doorbell rang and Liz’s heartbeat quickened. Oh God! He was here! She raced down the stairs hoping to catch Max before he met any of her insane family.

Luckily, Rosa answered the door.

“Hi, you must be Liz’s date,” she smiled genuinely at the handsome man in front of her. “Liz is still upstairs, she should be down any minute.”

Max smiled at the dark-haired girl in front of him. This must be Liz’s sister, he thought, taking in the similarities between the two.

Just then, all thought escaped his brain as he watched Liz walk down the stairs.

Oh God… she looked beautiful…

He gulped and managed to smile as she headed in his direction, a small smile on her face.

“Hi, Max,” she said shyly upon reaching his side.

“Liz… you look.. you look great,” Max said, his throat dry. He swallowed, hoping to wet his mouth again. He handed her the bouquet of white roses and shyly smiled back.

Liz’s eyes widened in delight. “These are my favorite! Thank you,” she smelled the luscious blooms, closing her eyes as their scent filled her nostrils.

“Well, I would love to meet your parents, but I’m afraid we’ll be late if we don’t get going,” Max said, breaking Liz out of her daze.

Liz thanked her lucky stars. “Oh, too bad. Maybe some other time.”

Max smiled and held his hand out. “Shall we?”

Liz tentatively placed her hand in his and smiled. “We shall.”

Liz looked at Rosa on her way out and her sister gave her an impressed smile.

TBC!! That’s all for now! Sorry it sucked!!

Hey guys! Please don't hate me... but I've been having some tremendous writer's block on this story! Aack! Okay, I'm definately by no means giving this up, but I'm afraid it might be awhile before I post a new part. Then again, maybe not! Who knows?? I am concentrating more on my other story right now, Forever Your Love, because my writer's block for it isn't as bad as my block for this. Does that make any sense, LOL?? Anyway, I WILL be back for this, so please don't give up on me! Okay??? I love you guys!!

Okay... I know I have been seriously lacking with this fic for a LONG time, LOL! But I want to say thank you to everyone who has stuck with this fic! This next part is pretty short, but at least I can say I am over my writer's block (finally!!!) and will be able to start updating more frequently soooo... be happy! And here ya go!

Liz took another whiff of her roses and smiled happily. She still couldn’t believe this was happening!

Here she was, sitting in Max Evans jeep on her way to a date with him! Sighing happily, she reached out and brushed her hair back from the wind.

Max glanced over at her, smiling when he saw her beautiful face illuminated by the soft glow of the street-lamps.

“Have I told you how beautiful you look tonight?” he asked seriously, breaking the comfortable silence.

Liz blushed and her smile widened. “Well… not in so many words…”

“Well, you do,” Max replied. “You look really beautiful, Liz.”

Liz turned and her eyes met his and both smiled shyly. “Thank you, Max. You… you look incredible, too.”

As soon as the words were out of her mouth, Liz wanted to hit herself upside the head. Incredible? Did she just admit that she thought Max was incredible? Oh God…

Suddenly, a new song came on the radio and Liz jumped at the opportunity to change subject.

“Oh, I love this song,” she laughed, as the strains of Stone Temple Pilot’s Sour Girl sounded through the night.

Max grinned, reaching over to turn up the radio. “Yeah, they’re awesome in concert!”

“Wow… you saw them? They’re like, my favorite band!”

“Oh, well, then you know they’re having a concert at the Civic Center in two weeks,” Max replied.

“Yeah… but I couldn’t get tickets,” Liz sighed, “they always sell out right before I get paid.”

Max swallowed. “Well… I have an extra ticket… if you want to go…?”

Liz squealed. “Really? I mean… you would want me to come with you?” she asked in awe.

Max chuckled. “Definitely.” Then he flushed in embarrassment. “I mean… I know how much you like them…”

On a whim, Liz leaned over and kissed him on the cheek. “Thank you, Max.”

Max grinned goofily. “Yeah… no problem.”

Liz sat back in her seat, bouncing anxiously. “So… where are we going?” she asked in excitement.

Max smiled. “It’s a surprise.”

“Ooh… I like surprises,” Liz giggled. “Do I get a hint?”

Max shook his head. “Nope. You just have to wait.”

“Aw, you’re no fun,” Liz pouted, her lower lip poking out. Max resisted the urge to groan at the adorable sight she made.

“We’ll be there soon,” he promised. Calm down, Max. You don’t want to attack her here in the Jeep, do you?

Liz smiled. “Okay.”

A few minutes later, they pulled into Max’s driveway.

Liz frowned in confusion. “Um… Max? What are we doing here?”

Max hopped out and reached his hand out to her. “I told you… it’s a surprise! Are you coming?”

Liz gave him a skeptical look, and Max stared deeply into her eyes.

“Liz, do you trust me?”

Liz smiled and put her hand in his. “Yes.”

Max smiled back as he helped her to the ground. “This way,” he murmured, leading her towards his home.

As they walked inside, Liz looked around at the empty house. “Um… where are your parents?” she asked causally, her heart beating rapidly.

Okay, she was now standing inside Max Evans house… with no one seemingly in sight.

YIKES!!! The possibilities…. Shut up Liz!

“Oh, they’re gone on a trip and Isabel is at a friend’s house,” Max answered, turning on a lamp.

“You… you mean, we’re by ourselves?” Liz stammered. Oh geez… now there was nothing stopping her from ripping that shirt right off his sexy chest…

“Yeah, is that okay?” Max asked earnestly, walking back over to stand next to her.

Liz flushed from the thoughts running through her mind. “Huh? Oh yeah! It’s fine…”

Max grinned and Liz almost swooned. “Great, well… follow me if you want your surprise.”

With that, he started walking towards the kitchen and Liz stared at his cute backside as he retreated.

“Liz? You coming?” Max called from inside the kitchen, and Liz started.

“Oh, yeah! I’m coming!” she hurried to follow him, and when she stepped inside the kitchen, she gasped and a hand flew to her mouth.

TBC!!!!!! What did she see??? Haha… I know you guys wanna kill me, but this seemed like a good place to leave a cliffhanger!

Hey guys! OKay.. I have some good news and some bad news! I'll give you the good first so that maybe it will butter you up and you won't kill me, LOL!

Okay, the GOOD news is that I am updating today!! YAY!! I will be back very soon with a brand spanking new part of this fic!

Now the BAD news is... I have decided to end this fic.

I know that a lot of people love this one and it was my first fic so I am kind of attached to it, but realistically I have so many others right now demanding my attention that I thought it would be a good idea to finish one. And since this one seems to be drawing to a good stopping point, I thought I'd just go ahead and call it quits.
There will be one or two more parts. I may or may not start a sequal depending on everyone's feelings towards it and the amount of time I have, but if I do it won't be until I get done with a couple more of my stories! I want to thank everyone who has kept up with this story even though I've been so awful lately about updating and it probably isn't any good anyway, LOL! But I truly thank you guys!! Oh, and if you like this one, pleeease go check out some of my other stories, kay? *big*

Author' Note: Hey everybody! And so this story finally draws to a close! I want to thank everyone who read this and left feedback - and even those who lurked and didn't post! It really warms a poor fragile writer's heart, especially considering that this was my very first fic ever!! I began this story by following Sixteen Candles, then I took a few twists and turns away from the movie- but now I am ending it the way the movie did.. with a few.. minor... differences, LOL! So... Without giving too much away, here you go! Thanks again! Hugs to all!

Title: Invisible
Author: Applebylicious (aka Lindsay)
Category: AU Max/Liz umm¡K is there any other??
Rating: PG 13 for now¡K..
Disclaimer: sniff, sniff¡K No, I don't own Max Evans or any of the other Roswell characters's but do you have to rub it in??
Author's Note: Okay, this is my first fic to post here, so feedback would be greatly appreciated!! I hope I don't disappoint, but I have to be realistic! Let me know if I should continue! This fic is loosely based on the Molly Ringwald movie Sixteen Candles.

CONCLUSION: Very short but hopefully it is okay!

Liz stared in awe at the sight before her.

The Evans's spacious kitchen was bathed in the warm glow of candles that had been scattered all over the place.

Vases of white roses had been placed around the room and filled the air with their romantic aroma.

The largest bouquet sat in the middle of the kitchen table, surrounded by several candles and a huge birthday cake.

Liz's eyes turned to Max, and she stared in shock at his hesitant smile as he stood by the table.

"Happy birthday, Liz," Max whispered, taking a few steps forward and offering his hand out to her.

Liz tried to speak, but her throat was so choked that she could only croak, "Max...?"

Max smiled at her and led her to the table. "Maria told me about your birthday and I wanted to do something special. I'm sorry it's a day late."

Liz shook her head, tears gleaming in her eyes. "Max, no one has ever done anything like this before."

Max's smile faltered at the tears in her eyes. "You... you don't like it," he murmured sadly, turning away from her to compose himself.

Liz frowned in confusion, her thoughts muddled from the spectacular scene before her. But everything cleared as Max began to move away from her.

"Max! Wait," she said, reaching out and grabbing his arm. He turned and looked at her hopefully.

"I.. I do like it," Liz assured him, a shy smile lighting her face in the golden light. "I love it... in fact.. I love you," she added softly, meeting his amber eyes with emotion.

Max's breath hitched at her confession and a smile broke out over his handsome face. "You... you love¡K me?"

Liz nodded, her face turning slightly pink. "I always have. But I never thought you knew who I was."

"Oh, Liz... of course I knew who you were!" Max insisted, his emotions stirring. "How could I not? You're so beautiful!"

Liz raised her eyes to meet his and he spoke the words that she already knew, but was aching to hear spoken.

"I love you, Liz Parker."

A tear slid down her cheek as Max cupped her cheek and brought her lips to meet his in a gentle kiss.

Liz wrapped her arms around his neck and he pulled her closer as the kiss deepened.

"I've always loved you," Max said between kisses and Liz shivered in happiness.

Max pulled back and rested his forehead against hers, a smile lighting his features. "Happy birthday, Elizabeth Parker," he murmured again.

Liz sighed and kissed him again.

In her wildest dreams, who could have thought turning sixteen could be so sweet?
