Hi... I finally finished the story so I'm gonna post the whole thing... but I don't think it will all fit on one post so I'll have to do it in sections... but I will have it all up by tonight. Enjoy!

Title : Standing Still
Author : applebehr
Category : Max and Liz, who else?
Rating : PG-13 to NC-17
Disclaimer : I don't own anything... so don't sue me!
Distribution : Please ask me first, thanks.
Summary : Max is in Hollywood searching for the sole surviving shape shifter and searching for a way to get to his son. Sadly, all that happened in season two did happen in this fic. This is really how I would like things to end up with Max and Liz. This fic was written because I know the real Max is under there somewhere and that Max and Liz can never truly be happy as long as there is the matter of Max's son hanging over their heads and that the Liz we've watched mature wouldn't stand for the crap Max is pulling this season... this is for those DREAMERS who truly BELIEVE.
Feedback : Would love it!

Hope you like.

Standing Still

Cuttin' through the darkest night
In my two headlights
Trying to keep it clear,
But I'm losing it here to the twilight
There's a dead end to my left,
There's a burning bush to my right
You aren't in sight, you aren't in sight

Liz Parker made her way down the hall to her locker... could this day get any longer. She passes by the eraser room and suddenly, abruptly she's pulled in by a strong hand. She spins around and her brown eyes meet with deep amber ones. She watches as his eyes drop down and suggestively pass over her, smiling approvingly. She was wearing faded blue denim jeans, cut low on her hips and a plain black, fitted tank top, cut just about her navel, showing off her toned stomach. She watches as he absently licks his full, soft lips and then drags his eyes back up to hers. Her eyes fall away and take in his black t-shirt, which was left untucked and his black pants that hung just right on his lean hips. They had yet to say something to each other, but Liz was still shocked, stunned to see Max. He was supposed to be in Hollywood, wasn't supposed to be back for another week, but here he was. Her mouth a gap as she stares at him, clutching her books to her chest and he smirks. He leans towards her and her eyes move to his lips and she nearly stops breathing. His lips near hers and her eyes begin to close, until she hears the door lock behind her and she turns her head just in time to see Max's hand stop glowing. She turns her head back, their lips nearly touching... he was so close... so unbelievably close.

"Don't want a teacher walking in like last time." He whispers and she looks up into his eyes. "Max, what are you doing here?" She asks, softly and he smiles. "What? You didn't miss me?" He asks, seductively and rolls her eyes. "You know I did... did you miss me?" She counters and his smile grows. "You'll never know how much." He answers in a soft, heady voice. "Oh yeah... how much?" She asks, flirtatiously and his eyes drop to her mouth. "So much." He whispers and then cups her face in his hands, pulling her mouth to his. His lips move over hers, caressing and teasing, over and over again until she gives in and opens her mouth for him. His tongue sweeps past her lips into her mouth, seductively seeking out hers. She throws her arms around his neck, her books falling to the ground with loud thud. She grabs onto his shirt as he moves one hand into her hair and the other around her waist, pulling her up against him. He pulls his mouth away from hers, breathing hard and his heart pounding fiercely against his chest and again he moves to kiss her. "I love you." He murmurs as he takes her mouth in his again, this time deepening the kiss immediately, plunging, probing his tongue in and out of her sweet mouth, attempting to get deeper. She tears her mouth away from his and he looks at her as she tries to catch her breath and he grins. "God... I can't get enough of you." He whispers, hoarsely and she smiles, still breathing and feeling slightly light headed. She leans her forehead against his and he clenches his fist in her hair, holding her to him, then he looks back up into her eyes. "But to answer your first question, why I'm back... I found the ship." He says and she looks at him, silently. She pulls away a little. "You did?" She asks and he nods. She steps out of his arms, her face serious. "Does it work?" She asks and he nods again and she smiles, genuinely. "That means you can go find your son... you can save your son, Max." Liz says and he looks closely at her. "I know." He says and she doesn't understand why he seemed so less then excited. "This is what you've been waiting for." Liz says and he smiles, sadly. "I know... but I had to see you, first." He says and she looks into his eyes and then down. "Why?" She asks and his brow furrows in confusion. "What do you mean, why?" He asks and she looks up. "Why did you have to see me?" She asks and he looks at her closely. "Because I love you... because I wanted to see you one last time before I left... because I thought you'd want to see me too..." He says and she looks away. "...to say goodbye?" She asks and he looks down, nodding. "Yeah." He says, quietly. There is a silence and finally Max looks up at Liz. "Do you want me to stay?" He asks and she shifts her eyes back to him, quickly. "No." She says, a little too quick. "No?" He asks and she shakes her head. "No. No, Max... I don't want you to stay." She says and she sees a flicker of pain in his eyes. "I want you to get on that ship and go save your son... because it's what you need to do." She says and he looks at her, intensely. "What if I wanted to stay? What if the real reason I didn't get on that ship was because I wanted you to ask me to stay?" He asks and she shakes her head. "No... I won't do it. I won't ask you to stay. I can't ask you to stay, Max." She says and he steps away from her, turning his back.

Do you want me, like I want you?
Or am I standing still, beneath the darkened sky?
Or am I standing still, with the scenery flying by?
Or am I standing still, out of the corner of my eye?
Was that you passing me by?

Liz stares at his back, not saying a word and that's how they remain for a long time until Max finally turns around, his eyes filled with unshed tears. "I thought I was going to make your dreams come true, Liz... how can I do that on another planet?" He asks and she looks at him. "You can't." She says and he nods. "You're giving up." He says and she smiles. "No... I'm not giving up, Max... I'm letting go." She says and he moves closer. "What's the difference?" He asks and she looks up at him. "Giving up is... admitting defeat, feeling like you don't have a choice. Letting go is wanting more for yourself... for the person you love. I'm doing what's best." She says and he shakes his head. "This is not for the best, Liz. How could it be for the best when we fought so hard to get to this place?" He asks and she smiles up at him. "Because you have somebody else who needs you more than I do." She says and he closes his eyes. "I'm not talking about my son! I'm talking about us... you and me!" He says, getting frustrated. Liz sighs and looks at him. "It will never be just you and me, Max!" Liz says, sharply and he freezes. She takes a deep breath and brushes past him. "You should've just gotten on that ship, Max." She says, harshly and he spins around. "Why are you pushing me to get on the ship so much?!" He shouts and she turns around, angry. "Because! Because if you don't get on that ship then you're gonna regret it... and you're gonna resent me for it! And it might be selfish but I don't want you resenting me for the rest of your life!" She says and he just stares at her. "Resentment is something you don't want to live with, Max. It tears you up inside until there isn't anything left in you." She says with tears in her eyes and he knows. "You resent me." He says and she stares at him. "You resent me for sleeping with Tess... for giving up on us... for bringing us to this place." He says, his own eyes tearing up. "You're damn right, I do!" She shouts with tears in her eyes and he remains silent. "Because it means I'll never be with you... you'll never be mine and I'll never be yours!" She says and he shakes his head. "Then why have you been helping me? Why are you with me?" He asks and she looks at him as the tears finally fall. "Because then I'd resent myself for taking away my last chance to have some semblance of happiness." She says, quietly and he looks down. "It's like I said, I know what it's like to be with you and to be apart from you... and I rather be with you... for however short a time that may be. But now you have to go... and I won't let you stay... not for me and not for my sake." She says and he looks up, tears streaming down his face.

Mothers on the stoop, boys in souped-up coupes
On this hot summer night
Between fight and flight is the blind man's sight
And the choice that's right
I roll the window down,
Feel like I'm gonna drown in this strange town
Feel broken down, I feel broken down

In one swift step he was standing directly in front of her, gazing down into her brown, soulful eyes. He wanted to say so much to her... but the words wouldn't come out, only a huge lump in his throat as he tried to force back tears. Liz stares up into his eyes, studying the way they looked just then, attempting to memorize them, wanting to never forget the way they looked into hers... so intense, so breathtaking, so soul consuming... so utterly beautiful. She opens her mouth to say something when he swiftly, sweeps down, capturing her lips in his. His lips cling to hers desperately, passionately and then fiercely devouring her mouth completely. Mouths opened and tongues explored, jutting in, out and around, low moans and soft sighs over and over and that's when it happened... a flash. Their first flash since what had seemed like forever. It didn't last long, a few seconds maybe, but it had been clear, definite... powerful nonetheless.

Flash

An older version of Max sitting in front of Liz, outside on her roof. Tears glistening in her eyes as she spoke to him... "Don't you realize what you are to me... and you're always gonna be? You're the love of my life. Everyone else is gonna be second best. There'll never be another you."

Flash

And just like that it was over. Max pulls away, his breathing off as he stares at Liz in awe. She looks up at him, trying to catch her own breath. "Don't YOU realize what you are to me?" Max says, fiercely and Liz looks up at him confused. "What are you talking about?" Liz asks and he smiles. "I had a flash." He says, softly and Liz looks up at him. "A flash?" She asks, just as surprised. He nods and then looks down, realizing she hadn't gotten one in return. "You didn't see anything?" He asks and she shakes her head. "No... what did you see?" She asks and he looks up. "You and... and future Max. I think you guys were on your roof. You were telling him about me... you said, 'Don't you realize what you are to me?' And you were crying." Max tries to explain the flash and Liz looks down. "It was after you saw... Kyle and I... in bed together." She says tentatively. Max nods. She looks up at him, sadly. "I thought- I thought I lost you for good... that everything between us was over." Liz pauses. "You- I mean, the future version of you... was telling me that maybe I was better off with a human. But how could that be?" Liz says with a half smile. "You're everything to me... I'm never gonna love anyone the way that I love you... human or alien." She tells him and he smiles, tearfully. "I'd do anything for you... and that's why you have to go... you have to do this." She tells him and he looks away. "What if I can't... what if I need you by my side?" He asks and she shakes her head. "Max, you can do this... I know you can." She tells him and he turns back to her. "What if I want you to come with me?" He asks and she freezes. That was one thing she hadn't counted on. She wasn't even sure if that was possible... physically. "What if I need you to come with me, Liz?" He asks and she looks up into his pleading, amber eyes. "I- I can't, Max." She says, sadly and his heart drops. He knew it was irrational to ask her to come... they couldn't be certain that she would be able to survive on Antar. He knew it was unfair to ask her... and yet he had to... he had to know if she would go with him... and now he knew. He knew and it hurt... but he understood.

Do you need me, like I need you?
Or am I standing still, beneath the darkened sky?
Or am I standing still, with the scenery flying by?
Or am I standing still, out of the corner of my eye?
Was that you passing me by?

Max cups her face in his hands, his thumb stroking the soft skin of her cheeks that were wet from the tears. "Liz... I owe you so much... more than just my life... I don't know how to- to thank you for that." He says and she shakes her head. "You don't have to thank me... not for loving you." She says and he smiles. "It was the best thing that ever happened to me... meeting you, loving you... having you love me back. That was one thing I thought was never possible... to be loved by you." He says and she looks down. "I never knew what love really was until you loved me." She says, honestly and he tilts her chin up, so that she was forced to look at him. "I'll always love you, Liz Parker." He says, sincerely and a tear slips down her cheek. "I'll always love you, Max Evans." She counters and he wipes her tears away. "And I'll promise you something... I will come back for you." He says and she looks away from him, not saying anything. He looks on confused by her reaction. "What?" He asks and she takes a breath. "I just wish you wouldn't make promises you can't keep." She says. "I will be back, Liz... I love you and I will be back!" He says, determined to make her believe him. She turns to look at him. "Max, you don't know that... you don't know what's happening on Antar or what kind of danger your son is in... you don't know how long you'll be gone." She says and he nods. "I know... but... one day..." He starts and Liz pulls away from him. "One day... one day you might be able to return... but maybe you won't want to." She says and he shakes his head. "I will... I will because I'll know you'll be here..." He says. "...waiting for you?" Liz asks. "That's what you're asking... you're asking me to wait." She says and he freezes, realizing she was right. "I know it's selfish... and I know I shouldn't ask you to... but the thought of you with somebody else." He says and she looks down, sadly. "I don't want you to give up your dreams, you've already sacrificed so much for me. I want you to live out your dreams... to do all the things you've only dreamed of doing since you were a little girl. Of graduating... of going to Harvard... of becoming the head of the micro biology department..." He says and she looks up with tears in her eyes. "How about being a wife... or a mother... I want those things too, Max." She says and he nods. "I know... and I want them for you too." He says, his voice hoarse with emotion. "I guess... I just wish they could be with me." He says and she shakes her head. "But they can't, Max. I'll never have those things with you... I won't be your wife or the mother of your children... and I've accepted that... I have to." She says and he knows she's right. "I guess I have to let go too." He says, softly and she nods. "I don't know how, Liz. I've never been able to... I could push you away and always keep you at arm's length... but I've never been able to fully let go. I don't think I want to." He says and she looks at him seriously, tears glistening. "You have to... for your son." She says and she watches as tears fall from his eyes.

Sweet sorrow is the call tomorrow
Sweet sorrow is the call tomorrow

They stare at each other, both silently crying. Max watches as Liz wipes away her tears and then tries to smile bravely for him. She opens her mouth, but before she can say anything he stops her, placing a gentle finger to her lips. "Don't... don't say it." He says, softly. "Not yet." He whispers and she looks up at him. "Isabelle's getting married tomorrow." He says and Liz nods. "I know." She says. "It's weird... I didn't even know she was dating Jesse until recently... and now she's marrying him." He says and Liz smiles. "Yeah... it's pretty incredible." She says and he nods and their is a slight pause in the conversation. "Will you go with me?" He asks and she looks up at him, not sure what to say. "I'm supposed to be Jesse's best man... and I told Isabelle I'd go." He says. "She doesn't know about me leaving and... this way I get to be there on the most important day of her life... before I leave." He goes on and Liz nods, understanding. "So... will you go with me, Liz?" He asks and she hesitantly, nods. "Yes... I'll go with you." She says and he smiles. "I know we're probably making it harder on ourselves... but I just don't want to say goodbye yet." He says and she looks at him. "One more day." She agrees with him and he nods. "One more day." He confirms.

One more day... to be with her... to hold her... to touch her... to kiss her... one more day to love Liz Parker the way she deserved to be loved... the way she had loved him all along.

Do you love me, like I love you?
Or am I standing still, beneath the darkened sky?
Or am I standing still, with the scenery flying by?
Or am I standing still, out of the corner of my eye?
Was that you passing me by?

The wedding was beautiful, outside at Summer Haven Park by the water and the sun shining down... beautiful and magical, just how Isabelle had wanted it with her friends and her family... small and intimate. Liz and Maria were Isabelle's bride's maids and Max, Jesse's best man... and Isabelle looked beautiful in her white wedding gown and veil. It was all so beautiful. The sun was setting, now and Liz sits at one of the white linen covered round tables, by herself and watches as couples dance. Her eyes focus on Isabelle and Jesse as they move slowly to the music, holding each other oh so tight... looking oh so happy and Liz can't help but smile, tearfully. Happy that Isabelle found someone... someone to love and to love her back... someone to laugh with and dream with... and grow old with. And sad that she herself would probably never have that... not when her heart seemed so consumed with Max, someone she was never destined to be with. She looks at Maria and Michael and smiles again... they were so good together... perfect for each other... and Maria deserved to be happy and to have a chance at a lifetime of it... and she believed Maria would have her day too. She sighs and then gets up from her seat... weddings always made her cry... as she is about to leave to the ladies room she hears four words that stop her in her tracks.

Come to me now
And lay your hands over me
Even if it's a lie
Say it will be all right
And I shall believe

Liz spins around to see Max standing there, looking so very handsome in his black suit, white shirt and ivory silk tie and all she can do is stare at him, unable to move. He walks over to her and reaches out his hand and in unspoken words she accepts as they they walk out to where all the other couples were dancing. He slides one hand around to her lower back and the other clutches her hand to his chest as they begin to move. Liz rests her head against his shoulder as her free hand runs over the fabric of his suit, absently. She closes her eyes when he finally speaks.

"Have I told how beautiful you look?" He whispers to her and she can only smile, but he can't see. She had on a deep red, slip dress... simple but elegant. It skimmed over her lithe curves and stopped just below her knee with a slit up the right side, giving her ample room to move. The neckline cut straight across, very respectable and two thin straps held up the dress. Her hair was half down and half up in this intricate bun thing with the blunt ends falling down loosely... Maria had done it and said it looked beautiful. And finally the dress was topped off with three inch, strappy, matching sandals... making her legs look even longer.

I'm broken in two
And I know you're on to me
That I only come home
When I'm so all alone
But I do believe

Max trails his hand up her back and then lowers his head, placing a kiss on her bare shoulder. "What are you thinking about?" He whispers and Liz sighs. "What it must feel like... to know you have all the time in the world together... or what it must feel like to look at the person you love and know that they'll still be here when you wake up the next morning." She says, softly and he closes his eyes as he holds her a little tighter. "I just- I really want this day to happen for me too, Max." She says and he nods and he looks ahead of him... his eyes distant and tortured. "And it will... one day... I really believe you will have this day, Liz." He pauses. "And maybe it will be with me... and maybe it won't... but you'll have this day... and we'll always have this... right now." He says, his voice low and filled with emotion. She turns her head so that her face was now buried in the crook of his neck. She takes in his scent... that mixture of the soap he used this morning and the cologne he had put on... and that scent that was just him... that scent that could calm her nerves in an instant. He can feel her warm breath on his neck and the feel of her soft skin against his. He can smell her shampoo and her perfume... vanilla... she always smelled like vanilla, but sweeter somehow. He knew there were things he'd never forget no matter where he went or how long he was gone... like the way she smelled or the way her hair felt passing through his fingers... silky and soft... or the way her body felt... fit against his, like it was meant to be all along... like she was made for him. He turns his head and his chin brushes ever so softly against her temple. She lifts her head up and looks up at him as his deep amber eyes drink in the sight in front of him, unable to stop himself from drowning in her mere presence. He lowers his head and his lips brush against hers in a tender kiss and that familiar connection is sparked.

Flash

The same older version of Max, this time in a dark office talking to Liz... "Oh, we had a great wedding. You called Maria, Michael, Isabelle, and Alex, and had them meet us halfway. We spent the whole night singing and dancing in some dive outside Phoenix, and at the end of the night, 'I Shall Believe' came on the radio"... And Liz smiles... "I love that song"... He nods... "I know. Everyone else was exhausted, but not us. Oh, we danced... just the two of us. And ever since then, it's been our song."... Liz looks at him tearfully.

Flash

This time the flash had lasted longer... he could actually feel himself there, unlike before when it had been too quick but to see and hear the conversation. Max stares down at Liz and she knows he saw something... had another flash... yet she hadn't seen anything from him. "What did you see?" She asks and he leans his forehead against hers while one hand rests on the side of her face and the other remained around her waist, ensuring she wouldn't leave him. "You... you and me- the future me. He was telling you about our wedding... how we danced all night... you, me, Maria, Michael, Isabelle... and..." He stops and she looks into his eyes. "Alex." Liz says, barely a whisper and he nods. "I want that back, Liz." He says and she looks up at him. "I want my wedding day with you... with all of our friends there... with Alex. I want it so much... I want the life we could've had... should've had... not this one." He says, broken down and she shakes her head. "Max..." Is all she can say before her own tears start falling. He wipes them away and pulls back, looking at her, determined. "Let's get out of here." He whispers and she shakes her head. "We can't just leave." She says and he looks down at her. "If I have to go... if I have to leave you... then I want to spend my last hours on earth just with you." He says and she looks down, unsure of what to do. "Liz... if we can't have a lifetime together... then please let us have this... just us." He says, softly and she looks up at him, nodding. "Ok." She says, quietly and he takes her hand in his, firmly and without even a goodbye to the others, he leads her out of the park and towards his car.

That not everything is gonna be the way
You think it ought to be
It seems like every time I try to make it right
It all comes down on me
Please say honestly you won't give up on me
And I shall believe
And I shall believe

They drove into the desert, in silence, both consumed with their own thoughts. Max would turn his head every so often towards Liz to only see her looking at the scenery passing by... obviously thinking. The car comes to a stop... no where in particular... somewhere in the middle of the desert. He reaches over and holds her hand in his and finally she turns to look at him, smiling... always smiling so bravely. They sit like that for a long time and then he moves to get out of the car. She watches as he rounds the car and comes to her side, opening the door for her and holding out a hand to help her. She takes it and gets out of the car, shivering a little as the cool desert air hits her skin... funny how she hadn't noticed it before when they were driving. Max slips his suit jacket off and drapes it across her bare shoulders, while she slides her arms into the oversized sleeves. She smiles a thank you and he mouths a you're welcome before reaching into the back seat and grabbing some blankets that had been left there from those nights when he used to crash in his car. He takes her hand and they walk a little, stopping only few feet from the car. Max spreads out the blanket and then drops to his knees on it until he's sitting with his legs bent before him, leaning back on his hands. He watches as Liz quietly takes off her sandals and steps onto the blanket, she too dropping to her knees in front of him. He sits up a little and carefully turns her around before bringing her to sit between his legs, her back against his chest and her head resting just below his chin. He wraps his arms around her tightly and then moves his chin to rest on her shoulder, his mouth positioned right by her ear.

"Tell me what you think it would have been like... if- if I hadn't messed things up so badly." He whispers and she thinks for a second. "Before things changed between us." He says and she stares out ahead of her, watching the last rays of light disappearing into the horizon. "We'd be happy..." She laughs a little and smiles. "I bet we'd be driving everybody crazy... because we'd be so in love... so crazy in love." She say, wistfully. "And nothing could come between us... because that's how strong we are together." She says and he closes his eyes, trying to imagine what she described with her words. "What about the future?" He asks and she thinks about it for a second and smiles at the thought. "Well... we'd definitely be married." She says and he smirks. "Definitely... but you think we'd still marry young?" He asks and she nods without hesitation. "Yeah I do... but maybe not in Vegas." She says and he nods. "Probably not." He replies. "What else?" He asks and she looks down. "I think we would've had kids... I mean, physically you are human... you have the same anatomy of the human male, right?" She says and he nods. "How many kids?" He asks in a low voice that made her stomach flutter. "I don't know... maybe two... a girl and a boy." She says, softly and she turns to face him. "The boy would look just like you. He'd have your eyes." She says with a smile. "And the girl would look just like you... with your hair... I love your hair." He says, touching the silky strands with his fingertips. "And they'd both have your ability to heal." She says and he shakes his head. "No... I want them to be human." He says and she looks at him. "Why?" She asks softly. "Because I want them to only have the best parts of me... my human side is the best part of me, Liz. The part that loves you more than life itself... the part that would never have done anything to hurt you... the part that hates that I ever made you cry." He says, remorsefully and then gently tracing the side of her face. "You're the best part of me, Liz. I would want them to be just like you." He whispers and she wipes away his tears as she leans in to kiss him.

Open the door
And show me your face tonight
I know it's true
No one heals me like you
And you hold the key

They trade soft kisses, tender and gentle kisses with their lips barely touching. Liz holds Max's face in her hands as she presses her lips more firmly against his, telling him she wanted more than this. He obliges and opens his mouth slightly, enough to suck her bottom lip into his mouth and then pulling on it ever so gently. He plies her mouth with moist kisses, until she can't take anymore and opens her mouth wide against his, allowing him further entrance. His mouth slants against hers as he slips his tongue into her mouth. Her stomach takes a dive the moment the tip of his tongue touches hers and soon it was gliding against hers, caressing and stroking... deeper and harder as the passion builds. Her hands slip from his face, down to the collar of his shirt, gripping it tightly as his large hands move to her face, holding it at just the right angle. The kiss was desperate, almost forceful, but neither could stop... not even for the need to breathe. His teeth scrape lightly against her bottom lip as he breaks the kiss and moves down to her chin then to the curve of her jaw. She literally gulps for air as he trails wet, passionate kisses down to her neck. Her head drops back as she feels the tip of his tongue trace down her throat and she can only grip onto his shirt even more. Her heart is beating against her chest and her head was spinning, tilting insanely... God, how could anything ever feel this good... this right again. He pulls away breathless, breathing hard and looks into her eyes, wanting to know if he should continue... if she wanted him to stop. Instead, he sees her eyes fall to his shirt. He can feel her undoing his tie and he looks down to see her remove his tie, tossing it to the side. He follows her hands as she untucks his shirt, pulling it out of his pants and then he looks back up at her. Her eyes remain focussed on her hands as she gets the first button on his shirt undone and then the next, methodically she unbuttons them all, leaving the shirt hanging open. His perfectly, sculpted upper torso peeking through. She sits up on her knees and effortlessly slips off the black suit jacket Max had put on her not too long ago. He watches in awe as her bare arms and shoulders are bathed in the moonlight from above. She cups his face as she looks down at him.

"Make love to me, Max." She says and he doesn't quite know what to say at first. "Liz... we don't have to... that's not why I brought you here... I don't want you to think..." He says, trying to make sure she knew it was never his intention. She nods, understanding. "I know... I know... but I want to... if- if you want to." She says, hesitantly, dropping her eyes down. He can only smile... of course he wanted to. He'd wanted to since that night they'd found the first orb... the night they'd come so close, but didn't. He places his hands on her waist and brings her closer to him as he looks up into her face... her with the height advantage since she was on her knees. "Only if you're sure this is what you want." He says and she nods. "I want this." She says without hesitation and he smiles. He looks up at her as she traces a finger down his jaw to his lips, across his bottom lip and the down his chin... smiling as the stubble tickles her finger. "If anytime you want me to stop... you tell me." He says and she simply nods as he reaches up to capture her lips with his.

His lips moves against hers so tenderly, so carefully... driving her insane. Their mouths open and their tongues meet, touching briefly and then again over and over they meet. He reaches up and with the wave of his hand, the knot in Liz's hair is released. Her hair falls around their faces, like a curtain and Max reaches up to push it back, cupping her face in both his hands as they continue to kiss. He leaves her lips to kiss her chin and down her neck as his hands move down to her shoulders, resting there for a brief second before moving them to her back towards the zipper. His tongue traces her collarbone before he moves lower to her chest, placing soft, wet kisses along her smooth skin. His hands lower the zipper of her dress slowly, giving her time to stop him if she wanted, but she doesn't. He slips his fingers into the opening, feeling the soft skin of her back.

He halts when he feels the delicate touch of her hand on his chest through the open shirt. It was so gentle, so tender... unlike anything he's ever felt, it made his body tingle and ache all at the same time. He pulls back to look up into her face and she smiles shyly at him before looking down at his chest. She slowly, carefully pushes the shirt off his broad shoulders and down his strong arms, smiling again when the sleeves get caught around his hands. He laughs a little too, his eyes never leaving hers as she lifts one of his hands off her waist and carefully unbuttons his cuff and places a soft kiss on the tips of his fingers before slipping it free from the sleeve, entirely. He can only stare breathlessly at her as she repeats the same for his other hand... and once again he's never felt anything like this in his life... his heart literally felt like it was swelling with love with her every move, swelling past capacity.

After the shirt is completely removed she moves her hand down his chest, simply brushing her fingertips over the smooth plains and deep valleys... watching as his muscles twitch under her touch. Beautiful... the only word that could possibly describe the sight in front of her... he was so beautiful. So perfect in every way... the hard muscle underneath the smoothest bronzed skin... the tiny, involuntary tremors just beneath the surface of his skin in reaction to her touch... he was incredible. He watches as she studies him and it only arouses him further... his desire for her increases from just the look in her eyes... as if she is completely fascinated with him. She sits back on her legs, folding them beneath her as she follows her hand move down his rippled stomach, over his navel and then stopping at the belt of his black dress pants. She can see how much her actions were effecting him and she hesitantly looks up into those soft amber eyes.

He leans forward and kisses her lips once and then moves them to her shoulder, tasting her skin there... she even tasted like vanilla... he finds himself thinking. He moves one hand up her bare arm, up to her shoulder where he gently pulls down the strap of her dress. He kisses her there before moving to the other shoulder, doing the same thing before pulling back to look at her. Her hand reflexively comes up to hold the dress up in the front before it can slip down. She nibbles her bottom lip nervously as she watches him look at her with so much love, obviously wanting her to make the choice. Slowly, she stands up in front of him and lets the dress slip from her grasp to fall at her feet.

Never again
Would I turn away from you
I'm so heavy tonight
But your love is all right
And I do believe

Max feels as if all the air has been knocked out him... beautiful. The first word he could even think to describe the sight of Liz... standing in front of him bathed in moonlight, wearing only black lace panties. He's always known she was beautiful... that inside she possessed a beauty that few could know... that her soul and her heart were what made her beautiful to him... aside from the physical. And he'd dreamed about her... but even in his dreams, he could never have imagined just how beautiful Liz Parker really was inside and out. And in those moments he didn't know if his heart was even beating... or if he was even breathing... or if even cared. His eyes drank in the sight of her, the sight of all the new uncovered skin... doing to her what she had done to him moments ago... studying her in absolute awe. When he finally trusted himself to move he shifted so that he was on his knees in front of her. He stares at her abdomen and leans forward, brushing his lips against her taut stomach, hearing Liz gasp.

The feeling of his moist lips on her stomach had been unexpected, but she found herself, slipping a hand into his hair and resting the other on his shoulder. She closes her eyes as she feel his strong, but gentle hands running up her legs, up her calves, behind her knees, up her thighs and stopping at her hips. She looks down at him when his lips suddenly leave her stomach... he was looking up at her, his eyes intense and dark and she swallows hard, so very nervous. She drops to her knees in front of him and as she does his hands glide up her sides, stopping just below her breasts.

He can see how nervous she is and he wants to erase that... he wants her to feel comfortable with him... trust him like she used to. He brings her closer until his bare chest touches her bare breasts and he nearly dies. She was so soft, but firm at the same time... and she was so warm, but she was trembling in his arms. He runs his large hands down her back, tracing the contours of her back with the pads of his fingers and then down the indent of her spine, attempting to soothe her. Her forehead rests just by his chin and her hands resting precariously on his upper arms, gripping his biceps, feeling them flex with each move he made. He brushes his chin against her forehead... his rough stubble in contrast with her soft skin and then he repeats this, but with his lips, passing them over her temple down to her ear.

She can hear his steady breathing in her ear and then feels his lips, brushing against her ear lobe. "You are so beautiful." He murmurs and she smiles, her heart beating a mile a minute. His lips drop to her neck and she tilts her head, giving him more room. "So beautiful." She hears him murmur again against her skin. His warm mouth working magic on her neck, his hands easing her apprehension, her nervousness... relaxing her. Even as he moved his hands up her sides and as his thumbs brushed against the sides of her breasts... he took the utmost care and time to allow her to adjust to him... to his touch. His mouth finds hers again and his hands move to cup her breast, stilling over them before continuing. The last bits of nervous anxiety flee her as he deepens the kiss and his thumbs move over her taut nipples. His hands begin to caress and stroke her breasts, adding the slightest amount of pressure and soon she was kissing him desperately... deeply, threatening to pull him under as well. But he needed to stay in control, he needed to take things slow with her... he needed to show her how it incredible it would always be between them... even if she found another in his place. And so he broke away from her mouth only to have her move her drugging kisses down his jaw to his neck... licking and sucking all the way down to his chest.

She wanted him to make love to her... but she also wanted to make love to him and up until now he had been the one pleasing her and she wanted to do the same for him. Hesitantly, her hands reach for his belt as her mouth moves to his nipple, delicately tracing it with her tongue and hearing his breath hitch in his throat. She stops suddenly, not sure if he liked it or... and before she can complete her thought she feels his hand trail up her back to the back of her neck and slip his fingers into her hair. Once again she licks his hard nipple and his fingers curl into her hair in response. She unbuckles his belt, carefully as she moves her mouth to his other nipple, giving it the same treatment... only this time she can see his chest rising and falling, erratically and she can hear the beating of his heart, pounding against his chest. She moves lower... kissing the ripples of his defined stomach, tracing the dips with her tongue and then she moves lower still to his navel. He groans when her tongue licks his navel, his head falling back in sweet pleasure. She pulls away and looks at him as he brings his head back up to rest against hers. Forehead to forehead, breathing heavily and his hand clenched in her hair. He moves to kiss her lips, but she evades his mouth and pushes him to lie back. He dutifully lies down and watches as she carefully straddles him. She looks down at him, her eyes moving from his eyes to is mouth and down his muscular chest and abdomen then falling to his undone belt. She looked so sexy to him, her hair falling forward, sitting on top of his body, practically naked... the thought went straight to his groin. She reaches to unbutton his pants and his body reacts again... she was so close, her hands were so dangerously close. She carefully unzips his pants and her fingers, unintentionally brush against his arousal. Her hands jerk back, surprised when his arousal responded somewhat the same way to her touch, jerking up.

He holds his breath... the last thing he wanted to do was scare her. He tentatively reaches for her hands and brings them both up to his lips, placing soft kisses on her fingertips as she had done to him before and then pulling her down to lie on top of him. He runs his hands over her nude back as she nuzzles her face into his neck... he smelled so good. "We don't have to do anything else... I mean, we could just stay like this." He whispers as he strokes her hair. She lifts herself up, positioning her hands on either side of him, looking down. "I'm not afraid... I just- it just startled me." She says, quietly, ducking her head in embarrassment. "But if this is all you want to do, Max... then..." She pauses to look at him and he swallows. "No..." He says, breathless, trying so very hard to control his emotions. "I want to make love to you." He says and she smiles. "And I want you to." She says in kind and he reaches up, pushing back her hair with his hands. "Are you sure?" He asks and she nods. "I'm sure." She confirms and leans down to kiss him. He pulls her back down onto him and then without leaving her lips, he flips her over onto her back as he moves atop her, placing most of his weight on his forearms. His kisses are passionate, mind blowing... earth shattering... breathtaking.

Her hands move down his back, over smooth flawless skin... tracing the indentation of his spine and then stopping at his pants. His lips move down the side of her neck, sucking... biting softly and she moans when he hits a particular sensitive spot. Her hands push his pants down over his hips and over his behind... and she can feel his arousal against her leg through the material of his boxers. She moves her hand over his firm behind, experimentally and he groans, moving his mouth lower, closer and closer to her breast, leaving hot, open mouth kisses in the wake. She was on fire... everywhere he kissed her, everywhere his touched her... she was burning and she arches against him as his mouth moves over her breast. She doesn't think... she can't... she can only feel. Feel his mouth sucking and licking and kissing her aching nipple. Feel his hand on her other breast, teasing and touching, caressing and stroking... driving her insane. She moves her hands under the waistband of his boxer shorts, boldly and runs her hand softly over the taut skin of his bottom. He groans again, switching his mouth to her other breast and she arches again. He slips his hand under her, holding there as he thoroughly devours her breast.

The ache deep down inside her was steadily increasing, becoming persistent and simply refused to be ignored. Max had been so incredible... being so careful and gentle in the way he touched her and held her and she loved him for it. But this ache inside her... it was strong and it was unbearable... she wanted him... she wanted Max... inside her... loving her. She feels his stubble against her stomach and then the flick of his tongue against her navel, causing her to arch her hips against him again. His hands steady her as he sits up and then stands, his pants slipping off and then his boxers. Liz looks up at him and she forgets to breathe... beautiful... every single part of him... absolutely beautiful.

That not everything is gonna be the way
You think it ought to be
It seems like every time I try to make it right
It all comes down on me
Please say honestly
You won't give up on me
And I shall believe
I shall believe
And I shall believe

Max stares down at Liz and then drops to his knees, his hands moving up her legs, up her thighs to her hips... watching Liz as she arches against his touch. He slips his fingers under her panties and pulls them down off her long slender legs, his eyes devouring her. Tossing aside the lacy under garment, he moves over her again only this time positioning himself between her legs. He looks down at her... her hair spread out beneath her, her lips puffy and swollen, her cheeks flushed and her breathing off. He lowers himself down on top of her, his chest against her breasts and his hard abs against her firm stomach. His eyes never leave hers as he slips a hand down between them, stopping between her thighs. He eases a finger into her, sliding in with effortlessly... she was so wet... so ready for him. He moves his finger out a little and then back in and she pushes her head back as tiny tremors course through her body. He leans forward capturing her exposed neck in his mouth, hungrily sucking and licking... grazing her skin with his teeth. She was driving him crazy... just looking at her... he was gonna lose it, but he couldn't stop. He removes his finger from her slick heat and then moves in two and she convulses against him, immediately. Her fingers dig into his shoulders and he holds her to him, brushing kisses across her cheek. "You are so beautiful." He whispers as she comes apart against his hand, holding back her need to scream. Her body relaxes, but her heart was racing and her breathing was erratic and she never looked more beautiful to him. He moves his fingers out and looks down into her eyes, asking her one last time.

Her only answer is the non verbal one when she moves her hand down and carefully, wraps her delicate fingers around his arousal. He jerks up immediately and she pauses... wondering if she hurt him somehow. He couldn't believe how hard he was... how much more hard she just made him with the simplest of touches. She hadn't gripped him or stroked him, just wrapped her hand around him... the gentlest touch and he'd reacted so strongly. He couldn't stop himself and before he knew it he was moving against her hand, desperately trying to relieve the aching. Liz watches as he rubs himself against the confines of her hand and she begins to caress him, keeping with his rhythm... until finally he pulls away, fearing he would lose it before he was even inside her. She moves her hand away and he positions himself against her and slowly enters her, ever so carefully... his eyes never leaving hers... looking for any sign of discomfort. She was so tight... so wet that he thought he'd let go right then, but somehow he manages to hold on and still he is careful.

Liz can only make inaudible noises at the back of her throat as the feeling of him inside her is so unbelievable... not painful, but full... like he filled a space in her that was hollow and empty before. An emptiness that she didn't even know existed until he was inside her... until somehow he completed her with each second that passed by... as he penetrated deeper. Max presses his face into her neck as he holds himself back from pushing into her... keeping his movements as slow as possible. She gasps as he reaches her barrier and he lifts his head to look at her. He already knows her answer... there is no turning back for her... for either of them... they were too far gone to ever go back. He rests his forehead against hers and pushes past the barrier, breaking it and eliciting a small whimper from Liz. He clenches his hand in her hair as he feels a sharp pain shoot through him unexpectedly.

They were connected... he could feel what she was feeling, he could hear what she was thinking... it was like they were one mind, one soul... one body. He pushes his own pain aside and looks down at Liz, tears were trickling down her cheeks and his own eyes fill with unshed tears. He rains kisses over her face, on her forehead to her temple, her cheeks... kissing away her tears. "I'm so sorry... I'm so sorry." He whispers as he tries to soothe her, ease her pain. He moves his hand to her abdomen, but before he can do anything she grabs his hand. "No... don't." She says and he looks at her. "Liz?" He questions... he couldn't read her thoughts... they were too jumbled... all over the place. "No... I want to feel this... I want to feel everything." She says, her voice trembling and he rests his forehead against hers again, refusing to move until she was ready. It was killing him, but he wouldn't cause her more pain... her tears had just about done him in. Through the connection he could feel that the pain wasn't as sharp anymore... in fact it was fading or maybe she was pushing it away... pushing it back into the far recesses of her mind. He kisses her forehead again and looks into her eyes and only then does he move. He moves out and then back in so painfully slow... filling her further than before and then moving out again and back in... until they're moving together in unison... in rhythm... as one.

In a short time, Liz is arching against him, digging her fingers into his back as she feels herself reaching heights of unimaginable pleasure... she has never felt anything this intense... this mind numbing... this incredible... and it was uncontrollable what Max was doing to her. She felt like she was going to die if he didn't stop... she felt like she was going to die if he did stop... she felt like she had died and gone to heaven. Max moves again, his strokes becoming long and deep, strong and powerful as his own body cries for release. He can feel Liz... she's so close to letting go... to crashing... harder than she ever has before and he wants to come with her. He feels her inner walls tightening around him, pulling him in deeper, if that was even possible and with one final agonizing stroke... they explode into a tiny million pieces there in each others arms.

Liz was writhing beneath him in sweet torture... and finally surrendering to her body's demands. "Max... don't let go." Liz whimpers against his neck as hot tears fall from her eyes. He holds her to him, crushing her to him as he buries his face into her hair, inhaling the scent of vanilla. His body shaking as he releases inside her, giving to her all that he had... all that he was... giving her all of him in that one singular moment. Her body is racked with tiny earthquakes as she comes down from her high almost too quickly... too suddenly. She places soft kisses on his shoulder... on his neck as she feels his body give out. His spent body collapses on top of hers out of pure exhaustion, burying his face in her neck as tears fall from his eyes and onto her shoulder. "I'll never let you go, Liz. I'll never let you go." He whispers hoarsely as she holds him, her hands running down his back, soothing him... tears slipping from her eyes as well.

The moment was so pure... so profound and the moment they came together it felt... it felt like home... like they were coming home... like for the first in their lives they knew what it felt like to finally know where you belong and that's when the rush of visions hit them... one after another.

Flash

Liz looks at Max, standing in front of him with a sheet of paper in her hands... "So when you healed me you risked all of this getting out didn't you?" Max gives her a half smile... "Yeah." She's confused, not understanding... "Why?" His eyes soften as he looks at her... "It was you."

Flash

Max stands in front of Liz, both in costume at the crash festival... "Liz, it's not safe. I mean, for you and, and me to... it's not safe." He says, sadly, looking down. Liz looking away for a second and then back at him... "I don't care."

Flash

Max looks at Liz, his eyes filled with regret... "When I saw Valenti taking you away like that... it just hit home for me, you know? How much knowing me has screwed up your life." Liz smiles up at him, softly... "No, it's just the opposite."

Flash

Liz looks up at Max, tears glistening in her eyes... "Max... how is it possible that I could be... I could be the happiest that I've ever been in my entire life... you know, and now the saddest all at... all at one time?" He looks at her with sad eyes... "I think that's what being in love is."

Flash

A soaking wet Max stands in front of Liz in the crashdown... "I look at you, and I know you're the person I'm supposed to be with. I've always known it. What happened here that day, when you got shot, and how that brought us together... it's fate. Look at me. You're the one, Liz... the only one. I could never be with anyone else." He whispers, leaning in to kiss her.

Flash

Max looks up at Liz, tearfully... "Knowing you has made me... human. Whether I die tomorrow or fifty years from now, my destiny is the same, it's you. I want to be with you, Liz. I love you." He whispers and she smiles, tearfully.

Flash

Max firmly holds Liz's arm, refusing to move... "This isn't about Tess. It's about you and me. You think I'm gonna forget about you or get over it or something, but... but I'm not. I don't... I don't care about my destiny or my planet or anything else. All I care about is you. So just know this... I'm coming for you, Liz." He says, firmly before releasing her.

Flash

A strange looking woman looks down at an array of cards in front of her and then looks up at Liz... "He's very important, this boy. A leader." And Liz nods... "Yeah, he has this whole other destiny... one that doesn't include me." The woman looks at Liz... "No. He chooses love." Liz is shocked... "What?" The woman smiles... "He chooses you." Liz shakes her head, not believing... "No, no, no, no, see, that's impossible." The woman holds up a card to show Liz... "The reading is clear. You marry your true love. You have happiness. The card here? Intimacy, sex. You will not be left wanting." The woman smiles at Liz.

Flash

The older version of Max stands before Liz in her bedroom... "Things between us are about to change... grow deeper. We become inseparable, and nothing comes between us ever again, until..." She looks up at him... "The... the end of the world?" She finishes his sentence.

Flash

The same older version of Max looks at Liz, angry. "No. The night of Gomez I came to your room. That's the night that things between us were cemented." Liz looks at him, shaking her head, incredulously... "Cemented. So when you say cemented, you..." His eyes soften... "We made love."

Flash

Liz turns to Max, surprised to see him at mass... "I thought you didn't believe in God." He takes her gloved hand in his, his eyes never leaving hers... "I believe in you."

Flash

Liz looks at Max with unshed tears... "Why can't you come with me?" He looks at her, regretfully... "Because I can't. But I'll be watching you, Liz Parker... wherever you go. And I'll be here when you get back." A tear slips down her cheek and she wraps her arms around his neck, hugging him, tightly.

Flash

Max's hands cup Liz's face, his eyes looking deep into hers... "I've been really wrong about a lot. But I was right about one thing: To get you into my life, to be around you, to love you." He pulls her into his arms, resting his chin atop her head.

Flash

Max looks at Liz as they stand on the dim lit docks... "Liz, you've paid a lot to know me. You've been hurt and you've been put in danger. Now I want to make that up to you. I want to make your dreams come true. Will you let me do that?" Liz smiles up at him.

Flash

Liz sits on Max's lap, looking at him as she speaks softly... "I know what it's like to be with you, and I know what it's like to be apart from you... and I would rather be with you." He looks at her... "I don't know if I could live with myself if anything ever happened to you." She smiles at him... "Max, you're an alien king. What could ever happen to me?" She says, dropping her eyes to his lips.

Flash

Liz turns to Max, slipping her arm free from his... "How am I supposed to help you find your child if I can't even be with you?" Clearly upset and he turns to her... "You are with me... all the time. All the time." He whispers as he holds her in his arms.

Flash

Long after the flashes were over, Max found himself lost in Liz. Lost in everything that she was to him and everything she meant to him. Lost inside of Liz... inside her head and her heart... her soul and he didn't want to let go because he's never felt so whole in his life until now... until he was buried deep inside Liz Parker's body. Liz simply stares up at Max, feeling the same way... feeling complete for the first time in her life. It felt right... so right like nothing else in her life and here in Max Evans arms, she felt like herself for the first time in a long time.

Max places a sweet kiss on her lips before he slides out of her, breaking their connection. They both feel the absence immediately... the deafening silence that followed after the connection faded... no longer able to feel the presence of the other's thoughts in their minds. Max moves onto his side, reaching over to grab the other blanket to cover them up, throwing it over their nude bodies. He brushes back Liz's hair and drapes an arm over her waist from behind, spooning her body with his. He props himself up on his elbow, looking down at her... watching her silently play with his fingers with fascination. "Are you okay?" He whispers and she nods, tilting her head up to look at him, smiling. He can't help but smile back and pull her closer to him, bending his head to nuzzle her neck. "I love you so much, Liz... I'll never leave you." He murmurs against her skin. "You're all that matters... here and now... this world not the one up there... this is where I belong... with you by my side... always." He continues to murmur, laying his head down beside hers and closing his eyes. He tries to fight it, but exhaustion takes over and soon Liz is left awake to think of the words he'd just uttered to her... and soon her own tired body surrenders to sleep as well.

That not everything is gonna be the way
You think it ought to be
It seems like every time I try to make to right
It all comes down on me
Please say honestly
You won't give up on me

The sun had just begun to rise, the first light of day beginning to peek up over the horizon, but the sky still dark. Liz's eyes flutter open and her eyes begin to adjust, taking in her surroundings. The desert... she was in the desert and she smiles as she becomes aware of the warm body behind hers... Max. His hard body pressed against her back and his arm draped over her waist and the sound of his steady breathing in her ear. As she become more alert, she becomes aware of the soreness between her legs and the ache inside... but she can only smile as she remembers why she was sore and why muscles ached in places previously unknown to her... Max made love to her... and the smiles deepens at that thought. She felt so warm, so happy, so safe... here in his arms and she wanted to stay like this forever. She turns around to look at him, who was still sleeping soundly. He looked even more beautiful in sleep... and she never thought it possible for one man to be this beautiful. His hair all messed up, blunt ends sticking up... his eyes closed, hiding the most soulful eyes you've ever seen... eyes that expressed so much with just one look... eyes that made you feel what he was feeling with a single glance... eyes that could stop your heart and take your breath away and possess the soul of whomever he chose... as he had done to hers. She watches in awe as he shifts to his back in his sleep and her eyes fall to his muscular chest. There was no denying that this man had strength and power hidden beneath the lean structure of his muscular body. But he had the gentlest touch... hands that caressed and stroked so tenderly... and hands that healed... healed the body and the heart... and even the soul. He had touched the deepest part of Liz... touched her and sent her to heaven... touched her and brought tears to her eyes. And she knew that no one could ever touch her the way Max Evans could... the way that he did last night.

She watches him sleep a little while longer, knowing what she had to do... knowing that she had to give him up... give up this man who had loved her and hurt her and still consumed her heart with the same intensity. The truth remained the same, he was not just a man, nor only an alien... no he was a king... and he had responsibilities to his people and to his world, a world unlike this one. But most importantly, he had responsibilities to his son. Last night, Max's vow... promise, whatever you want to call it... was never his to make... and Liz knew this. She knew it the moment she decided to help him find his son... that he would never be hers... that he could never promise her a life together or even a future to look forward to and she knew this... even if he didn't. She also knew that what he said last night... he meant... he meant it and she knew then that she would be alright. She would make it without Max by her side because she knew that where ever he was... this world or any other... he loved her just the same. But he was right about one thing... what happens here and now... it will always belong to them and she'll always have that. The memory of being loved completely and loving back whole heartedly... of a perfect love that was never meant to be.

Liz leans over and lightly traces his lips with her fingertips, memorizing the way he looked just then, praying she never forgot and with that she brushes her lips over his, careful not to wake him. "I love you." She whispers to him, hoping somehow he hears her even in sleep. And with one final glance, she slips out from under the blanket and begins to get dressed, quietly. A few minutes later, she is fully dressed and picks up her shoes and walks towards the car. She reaches for her purse in the passenger seat, fumbling for a second and then pulling out her cell phone. She dials a number and waits as it rings a few times before a tired voice answers the phone. "Hello?" The voice says. "Maria?" Liz says. "Liz?" Maria asks. "Yeah." Liz says. "Liz... Babe you know I love you, but it's five in the morning." Maria says in a sleepily voice. "I know... could you please pick me up?" Liz says and there is a pause before Maria replies. "Where?" She replies. "Oh you're the best!" Liz says with a smile.

A sleepy smile appears on Max's face as he takes a deep breath and is instantly consumed with the scent of vanilla and Liz... her scent was all over him, drugging him... seducing him. His body pleasantly ached, but after last night... he could care less how sore his body was... he made love to Liz. He grins... he was happy... for the first time in a long time he was truly happy. Last night, when he and Liz connected... it was unlike any other time before... it was different, stronger... deeper. He liked being able to hear her thoughts and to feel what she was feeling... he loved being consumed by her very presence... her very being. He already missed her... her body pressed against his... her lips against his skin... her touch, feather light. His eyes still closed, he turns onto his side, reaching a hand out for her, but only finding the empty space beside him. "Liz..." He says as his eyes burst open and immediately he sits up, panicked. "Liz..." He repeats, his eyes darting around to only find the vast empty desert. She was gone.

Please say honestly
You won't give up on me...

Maria and Liz are on their way back to town and Liz has been quiet for the most part, simply staring out of the window. Maria had been worried ever since she picked Liz up on the side of the road. She turns to look at Liz for the umpteenth time. "Liz... babe... are you ok?" Maria asks, concerned. Liz looks down for a second and then turns to Maria. "I will be." Liz says and Maria nods and then grabs her friends hand, squeezing at she continues to drive towards the town. Liz turns to look back out the window, the sky brightening as the sun rises. "I'm gonna be okay." She whispers to herself, smiling.

And I shall believe

Ok, first I have to admit that... that has been by far the longest love scene I've ever written. I wanted it to be sensual and sexy, but innocent at the same time... and it just so happens that it resulted in like 7 pages of nookie... and for that I apologize... it wasnt meant to be so long and drawn on... but there it is.

The other matter is that I have an idea for a sequel and it's driving me insane, but here's my problem. The reason I wrote this short story is because I don't have a lot of time to write a long story and I know that this sequel is going to be long. I am still debating whether to even start it and risk the possibilty of leaving it incomplete at some point down the road or not starting at all until I'm sure I can commit to it. By the way, I hate leaving stories unfinished.

However, if you all really enjoy this story and I get enough people wanting the sequel I might just write it, since it has been pestering me for days... saying "write me, write me"... LOL! Those of you who have ever been my shoes know how annoying it is.

Well thanks for reading and so far this is my one and only Max and Liz fic... hope I'll be able to write a ton more.

AUTHOR'S NOTE

WOW!!! Can I take a moment to gush?! Thank you so much!

When I wrote this I never imagined this kind of response... mainly because I'm new to the board and I know that with so many great fanfics on this board... who has time to read them all? So, I just wanted to say thank you so very much... for reading and replying... I'm glad you liked it.

About the sequel... I hope you'll all be happy to hear that I've been working on a sequel... which was a hard decision for me to make, considering my lack of time. But I promised that I would if enough of you asked and you did, so how could I deny you that? I have a few parts down and if everything goes as planned then I should have a few more parts done by Christmas. I just want to get a good start on it before I actually start to post, that way I don't have to keep you all waiting too long between parts. So look for something around Christmas... the title is Moving Forward... I just thought the title was fitting... considering this story is called Standing Still.

Right now, Max is not my favorite person on the show... I'm sure all you dreamers don't need me to go into details as to why this is. To me it feels like JK is playing this game of yo yo with us... he gives us Max and Liz together, but we barely see any Max and Liz interaction aside from the first couple eps. He gives us moments in which we can see the old Max coming through... but he taints it with some reminder of his betrayal or some other crap such as that. I hated that Max asked for the pendant back... who gives a gift and then asks for it back? I know that he needed it back so that he could hide it or whatever from his dad... but still... just the way he asked for it made me so angry. In control, when Liz said that she didn't feel very loved... she was right... I haven't seen any indication as to whether Max does love her... saying it isn't enough... he has to show her. She's doing all the sacrificing and forgiving... and to me that isn't the Liz I remember from season two. Yes, she would sacrifice for Max (what started all this mess... EOTW) but I don't think that she'd continue to if he was treating her the way he is now. But in this fantasy world... you can do whatever you want... you can fix mistakes and rebuild what has been destroyed... you can restore hope when it once was lost... and I know dreamers have been put through hell. They've had to endure so much pain and heartache... disappointment after disappointment... and they still believe... and will probably continue to believe and that's why I wrote this fic. Because I felt myself losing faith in my favorite couple... and I know I'll have more of these moments along the line... but even if I swear off Roswell and never see Max as the same again... I know somewhere deep inside I'll always be a believer and a dreamer.

And on that note, I just wanted to say thanks again for reading everyone... I appreciate it soooo much! So till Christmas...

Hi...

I'm just bumping this because some of you found my old thread and it's imcomplete... and you've been asking for me to complete it... and it is, just not on that particular thread.

AUTHOR' NOTE : And an update on the sequel... I'm gonna be totally honest with you all... I've been feeling less than inspired to write these days (Max and Liz on the show just ain't cutting it and let's say I don't know if I even want to continue with the rest of the season.) And even though I have a few parts done... I don't really know when I will be continuing to write the story again. It's really up to you guys... if you want me to post what I have I can... but I don't know when I will update it again. Personally, I wouldn't want to post it... why? Well it's likely I won't update it for awhile if ever and I hate to leave you guys hanging for so long. Standing Still really was meant to be it... but you guys loved it and I had been thinking of a sequel. The idea of the sequel is still intriguing to me... and I don't think it's been done before, but I could be wrong because there are a lot of great fics out there... and some pretty great future fics, which what this will end being. Who knows? I might wake up one morning and suddenly feel inspired. Thanks again so much you guys... I loved writing Standing Still for you all and I'm just glad you enjoyed it. I'm sorry about the lack of inspiration... but thanks for all your encouraging words and support. You all made me feel so welcome, since it was my first fic on a board that is filled with great fics and amazing authors, I appreciate it.

Have a happy New Year... and be safe!
