Chapter 1

“Liz, I have a date with Isabel tonight.”

“Okay, Alex, and what am I supposed to do about that?”

“I can’t find my car keys!” Alex said as if that explained everything.

“Once again, what am I supposed to do about that?”

“I dunno, maybe help me look for them?”

“And why would I help you dear brother? Don’t you remember leaving me with the dishes last night?”

“Look, I’ll do the damn dishes for a month if you help me out here. You know how much Isabel hates it when I’m late.”

“Deal,” Liz said as she threw her brother his keys.

“Hey! You cheated! You had my keys the whole time!”

“I didn’t exactly cheat; I just played you for a fool. Besides, you don’t have the time to sit here and argue you have a date to go to. Bye!” Liz yelled out as she pushed her brother outside and locked the door behind her.

Liz loved her older brother dearly, but he was so easy to play. Ever since their father died 5 years ago, he had always been so protective of her. Then when he finally fell for one of their best friends Isabel, he loosened up on her. Not by much, but enough. He no longer threatened every guy that would talk to her, and he actually let her go out on her dates by herself. Liz remembered her first date and how horribly bad it was. She was 15 years old and Mike Walters had asked her out. It was a big deal considering how popular he was. However, Alex insisted that he came along, and he always got what he wanted. Mike thought it was a bit odd, but he looked past it. As the date continued Mike got a little closer and Alex blew a fuse. He punched the guy in front of half of the student body, and ever since then many guys have been afraid to go near her.

Maria DeLuca was her best friend and thank god she had her around. Maria was very opinionated but that’s what made her unique. She tells it how it is and not many people like that. When we were sixteen we attended one of Pam Troy’s parties, and this guy decided to feel up on me. Maria saw how uncomfortable I was so she told the guy to back off. When he didn’t, Maria spun him around and kicked him in the balls. Maria then began to walk away when the guy decided to call her a bitch. Let me just say that was a huge mistake. I’ll never forget how quickly she dumped a bowl of fruit punch over his head. Needless to say we were never invited to one of Pam’s parties again.

Liz woke up to her blaring alarm and she rubbed her hand across her face. When she looked back down at her hands she noticed a mixture of colors. She quickly stood up, took a glance in the mirror and screamed.

Her face was painted with various colors and she looked like Bozo the clown. She quickly washed up, threw her clothes on and ran down stairs. For the first time she was glad that she woke up an hour before her brother did.

“Alex, time to wake up!” Liz yelled as she threw a pillow at her older brother.

“I’m up!” He yelled back.

“By the way, I made you pancakes hoping you’ll lay off of the practical jokes. It’s my way of apologizing for yesterday.”

“Speaking of which, how did you like my art work?”

“Oh, it was very beautiful. Thank god it was easy to wash off. Now hurry up, your food is getting cold.”

Five minutes later Alex was downstairs inhaling the food that Liz cooked for him. And three minutes after that he was in the bathroom doing something no one wants to know about.

“Liz, what the hell is wrong with that food that you made?” Alex cried out.

“Dear brother, it’s called Exlax. Now I have to go to school. You have a fun filled day in the bathroom!” Liz replied before leaving for her car.

When Liz arrived to school Isabel was the first to meet her by her locker.

“Where’s Alex?”

“Probably still in the bathroom.”

At this point Maria walked up and joined in the conversation.

“Doesn’t he know it’s the women who are supposed to be the ones taking the time to pamper themselves?” Isabel questioned.

“Hun, he’s not pampering himself if you know what I mean.”

“No, I don’t know what you mean.”

“I slipped something into his food. Now do you know what I’m talking about?”

“No,” Isabel replied.

“He’s at home taking a shit!” Maria yelled a little too loudly. Kids turned and began looking at her. “Our dear Liz slipped him some Exlax. God, you can be so ditzy at times.”

“Liz, why would you do that?”

“Cause that jerk painted my face while I was asleep. Let’s just say it was horrible when I left the house. I don’t think you’re going to want to see him today.”

“Girl, you deserve a medal or something. It was cruel, but I give you props.” Maria said just as the bell rang.

“Well, I’ll see you guys later.” Liz called out as she headed to her first class of the day, Physics.

“Good morning Mr. Wells, how are you today?” Liz asked as she walked into class and took her seat.

“Quite well, Ms. Parker, thank you for asking.”

The final bell rang and the remainder of the class began taking their seats. Everyone except a boy whom Liz had never seen before.

“Class, this is our new student Max Evans. I’m sure you’ll all do your part in making him feel welcome.”

“I’ll make him feel welcome all right,” Pam Troy said a little too loudly.

Mr. Wells was about to say something when Max spoke up.

“Well, I’m sure that was a wonderful offer and everything, but I don’t swing that way if you know what I mean.”

The class burst into a fit of laughter and Pam’s face turned bright red.

“Okay class, settle down. Max, you may take a seat next to Liz Parker. She’s the only one in the front row without a lab partner.”

“Too bad you’re gay because you’re pretty cute,” Liz said as Max took a seat next to her.

“Excuse me?” Max questioned confused.

“That is what you just told the class isn’t it?”

“Oh, that! No, I’m not gay. I just said that to get that girl off of my back. I mean, could she be anymore eager to get laid?”

“You know, I have to give you credit for that one. That was quick thinking. So what other classes do you have?”

Max handed Liz his schedule. “So do we have any other classes together?”

As a matter of fact we do. All five of them.”

“You’re kidding right?”

“Actually I’m not. It looks like I just found my new best friend.”

“Oh trust me, you’ll be so sick of seeing me within a matter of days that you’ll want to kill me.”

“I think you have that backwards, Max. If someone is going to want to be killing anyone, then it will be you wanting to kill me.”

“Liz, would you like to do anything tonight? I know we just met and everything but I don’t know a thing about this town, and I figured that you could help me out.”

“Yeah, that would be no problem. Besides, it’ll give me a chance to give you the test.”

“Should I be scared?” Max joked.

“Nah, I wouldn’t be. Besides, you already passed the first part with flying colors.”

“And that would be?”

“Giving Pam Troy what she deserves.”

“Damn, now if all of my tests could be that easy then I’d be set.”

The bell rang and Max and Liz headed off to their next class. The day went by quickly and the two were lucky enough to be seated near each other in every class so far. The lunch bell rang, and Max followed Liz to her hangout area.

“Hey babe, anything interesting happen yet?” Maria asked as she joined the group.

“Well,” Liz started. “Max Evans is new to the school and he and I have every class together. Then Pam Tory said she’d make him feel welcome and he told her that he was gay. Let me tell you, Maria, I have never seen her turn so red before! It was a Kodak moment.”

“Max!” A guy yelled from behind them. “I’ve been looking for you all over!”

“Hi, I’m Maria, who are you?”

“I’m Michael, his brother.”

“Oh, so are you gay too?” Maria blurted out.

“Um, no...I’m not.”

“And I’m not either,” Max chimed in.

“But Liz said that you were.”

“No I didn’t Maria, I said he told Pam that he was. He did that as a way of getting her to back off.”

“I knew that, I was just testing you guys.”

“Yeah, whatever you say Maria.”

“Okay, hello? Back to what I was saying. Where in the hell have you been?”

“Calm down Michael. I was just hanging out with some new friends. Besides, aren’t you old enough to find your own way around school?”

“You just wait until we get home Maxwell,” Michael threatened.

“Sorry bro, Liz is going to show me around town tonight.”

“Geez, you people don’t move slow around here do you?”

“Max?” Liz asked.

“Do you mind if I slap your brother upside the head?”

“Okay, I get the point. Damn, you people are violent as well!”

Maria kicked him upon hearing this.

“Case closed.” Michael said as he rubbed his shin.

“Not all of us here are violent. Just our dear Maria.”

“Hey, I may be violent but I’m not cruel like you are!”

“What do you mean?” Max questioned.

“Well, as it turns out, our dear sweet Liz made her older brother pancakes this morning.”

“Maria!” Liz warned.

“And what’s so bad about that?”

“She poured Exlax into the mix!”

Liz kicked Maria underneath the table and turned to Max.

“Exlax?” He asked.

“What? He painted my face while I was asleep!”

“You know,” Michael cut in. “We came from Las Vegas, also known as Sin City, and the people there weren’t half as crazy as you people over here.”

“Then why are you still over here if these people are as crazy as you say they are?” Max questioned.

“Good point. I think I’ll shut up now.”

“You know, I think that’s the first intelligent thing you’ve said all day.” Maria piped in.

The bell rang and people began heading to their next hour class.

“Liz, I’ll call you later okay? Mr. Jacobson will kill me if I’m tardy.”

“Okay, and Maria? Take Michael with you. It appears he has Mr. Jacobson as well.”

“Oh, yippee for me.” Maria mumbled under her breath as she grabbed Michael’s shirt and dragged him off to class.

Max met Liz at the Crashdown an hour after school let out. He was shocked to see that the entire restaurant was alien themed.

“So, this is where you live huh?” Max asked as Liz approached the bench that he was sitting in.

“Well, not here in general. I live up there.” Liz said as she pointed straight up.

“Ah, I see. So you live in the sky among the birds that like to shit on my car.”

“No, smart-ass. I live above the restaurant. My mother owns this place. She just couldn’t let it go after my father died so my brother and I pretty much run things around here.”

“So that means that you wear one of those little outfits with the alien antennas?”

“Yeah, why?”

“Oh, nothing. They’re...cute.”

“You do know that you’re a horrible liar right?”

“So I’ve been told once or twice, yeah.”

“Hey, it could have been worse.” Liz defended.

“Oh? And how so?”

Liz thought for a moment, but still she came up with nothing.

“I don’t know! They just could have okay?”

“Yeah, sure, whatever you say. There is one thing cool about the uniforms.”

“And that would be?”

“They’re short. Simple as that.”

“What a pig! Anyways, how did you end up moving here?”

“Well, first Michael and I packed up all of our things. Then we got onto a plane, flew for quite sometime, and when we got off we were here.”

Liz gave him a sideways glance and he laughed.

“Actually, my parents died so my brother and I moved here to live with my aunt.”

“Oh, I’m sorry. I had no idea.”

“Don’t apologize. I never really considered them my parents anyways. They were always too busy to even notice that they had children. I guess that’s how I became such a cute smart-ass. It’s my way of coping with reality.”

“A cute smart-ass?” Liz laughed.

“Yeah, isn’t that what you told me earlier today? Too bad you’re gay because you’re pretty cute?”

“Yeah, well, what can I say? I speak my mind.”

“Hey, Max, what’s going on?” Pam asked as she approached him and Liz.

“Not much,” Max said trying to be polite. “I’m just hanging out with Liz.”

“And why would you want to do something like that? Look, I know that you’re not really gay, and I forgive you for lying to me. But trust me, you do not want to hang out with Liz Parker. Ever since her father died she’s been a little weird, ya know? But me? Now I can show you a good time.”

It was at this time that Liz excused herself and went upstairs.

“Look, Pam,” Max said as he stood up. “I don’t know what your problem is, but back off and leave Liz and I alone. If you’re really that desperate to get laid then post your phone number in the men’s restroom. I hear that it works wonders for girls like you,” Max finished as he turned and went looking for Liz.

“Here you go Pam,” Maria said while she handed her a drink. “Michael Evans ordered you a virgin margarita. I think he’s trying to tell you something.”

People in the restaurant began laughing and Pam threw her drink at the wall.

“I am not a virgin!” Pam yelled before running out the door.

“Hey, why did you come up here?” Max asked as he sat on the floor next to Liz.

“Because if I didn’t leave then I was going to hit her, and I didn’t want to lower myself by doing so. Besides, I thought that you would have just gone with her.”

“Do I look that easy to you?”

“Now you sound like a girl.”

Max laughed. “Good point. Don’t worry though, I promise that I won’t ask you to ever paint my nails for me. So why does she get to you so much?”

“I don’t know actually, she just does.”

“Well if it makes you fell any better, she doesn’t have anything that you don’t.”

“What are you talking about? She’s pretty. I see the way guys look at her.”

“Not me.”

“Yeah, but you’re supposed to be gay remember?”

“True, but you know that I’m not. And instead of drooling over her, I’m hanging out here with you.”

“Yeah, I’ve noticed. Why is that?”

“Because our personalities click better then mine and Pam’s. Besides, she never said that I was cute.” Max pouted.

Liz smiled. “You’re not going to drop that are you?”

“Not a chance in hell.”

“Are you sure about that?”

“Yeah...” Max replied cautiously. “Why?”

“Nothing, no reason at all.” Liz replied as she walked toward the bathroom knowing that Max would follow her.

And he did.

Once he entered the restroom Liz pulled on a string that led up the doorway. A bucket of water fell on Max and he stared at her in disbelief.

“What was that for?” Max questioned.

“I dunno, for the hell of it I guess. Originally I was going to save that for my brother, but I thought what the hell? Why not use it now?”

“Your brother never really fights back does he?”

“Not really, no.”

“Well that’s too bad because I do!” Max yelled before throwing Liz into the puddle of water that was below them.

The two continued to wrestle around on the floor, and not one of them noticed Alex standing in the doorway.

“Who the hell are you and what are you doing to my sister?”

“Alex, calm down. I’m a big girl now and I don’t need you breathing down my back all of the time. Max is a friend and he’s new to Roswell.”

Alex turned to Max and looked him over.

“I want you to leave my house and stay away from Liz. Do you understand me?”

“Yeah, I understand. But let me give you a little bit of advice before I go. She’s an adult and can make her own decisions, and you need to respect that. If you don’t then you’ll end up loosing her sooner or later.” Max said before leaving the Parker residence.

“We need to talk,” Liz said as she grabbed her brother by the ear and sat him on her bed.

“Are you trying to get back at me for what I did to you today? Is that why you’re pulling this shit?”

“It has nothing to do with that. This morning was a practical joke...a daily routine...this isn’t. You just met this guy and you’re already getting cozy with him! Not to mention how much flirting was going on!”

“I was not flirting with him.”

“The hell you weren’t!”

“Okay, and so what if I was? You flirted like hell the first day you met Isabel! And don’t forget, the day after that you two slept together! So don’t you dare lecture me on this subject.”

“That was different.”

“How so?” Because you’re a guy?”

“Exactly! When a girl does that then it just makes her look like a slut.” Alex said before thinking.

Liz slapped her brother across the face.

“You know what? I love you, but go to hell! And keep what you just said in mind because you just called your own girlfriend a slut.”

“Liz, wait!” Alex called out as she left the house, but she didn’t turn back around to hear what it was he had to say.

“Liz, what are you doing here?” Michael asked as he answered the door.

“I came to see Max. Is he home?”

“Yeah, he’s in his room. You can just go back there if you like.”

“Thank you,” Liz replied as she began walking towards the back of the house.

“Umm...Michael?” Liz asked.

“Which room would be his?”

“Second door on the right.”

“Thanks.” Liz replied before knocking gently on Max’s door.

“Come in!” Max yelled thinking it was his brother.

Liz walked in and noticed a shirtless Max doing push-ups.

“Ahem,” Liz cleared her throat.

“Oh, sorry!” Max apologized as he got up off of the floor and threw a shirt on. “I thought you were Michael.”

“Yeah, cause you know, people mistake me for your brother all of the time.”

“Ha ha, funny. So what are you doing here anyways? The impression I got was that a restraining order was going to be filed against me within the next hour.”

“I’m sorry about Alex. He’s just so damn protective, and he doesn’t realize that he needs to loosen up. But you know he can’t control my life. If I want to be friends with someone then what’s he going to do to stop me? Tie me up until I’m wearing dentures?”

“You know, I wouldn’t put it past him.”

“Yeah, you’re funny.”

“Aren’t I though?”

“Whatever. Anyways, I just wanted to see if you wanted to go out with me tomorrow night.”

“And would your dear brother approve?”

“Who gives a shit!”

“We don’t even know each other.”

“Grow a pair of balls, Max. People get to know each other on a date; it’s no longer just to get someone else in bed. But if you’re that uncomfortable with it, then fine. That’s all you had to say. You didn’t have to go and make up some excuse.” Liz said as she walked towards the door ready to leave.

“Liz, wait.”

“What?” She asked irritated.

“Can we turn the bitch-o-meter down a notch? I was just joking. I wouldn’t have flirted with you if I didn’t want to take you out.”

Liz picked up a shoe and threw it at Max.

“By the way, no one calls me a bitch in any shape or form. I don’t care if it was joking or not. That’s just one word I don’t tolerate. Ask Maria about it sometime. When I first met her she ended up with stitches. Although that part was accidental.” Liz stopped and realized how she must have just sounded. “I’m sorry, I’ve had a bad day. I’m not really this mean. I promise.”

“Got it.” Max replied.

“Oh, and Max?”

“Your fly is open.”

Max looked down and turned beet red when he realized that she was telling the truth. He looked back up at Liz, and they couldn’t hold it in any more. They both burst into laughter.

“I’ll pick you up at seven tomorrow evening.”

“All right, see you then.” Liz replied before leaving once and for all.

“Hello?” Maria asked as she answered the phone.

“Maria, this is Alex. Have you seen Liz?”

“No I haven’t. Isn’t she home?”

“No, she’s not. She left four hours ago and I haven’t seen her sense. I’m getting really worried. I said some things that I shouldn’t have.”

“Hey, don’t worry about her. I’m sure she’s fine. I’ll tell you what, I’ll go out looking for her and I’ll call you if I hear anything okay?”

“Okay, thank you Maria.”

“De nada. Adios!”

Maria hung up the phone and turned to her houseguest.

“You really should call your brother. He’s really worried about you.”

“Good, let him worry. It’s been four hours. If he were really that worried then he would have driven to Max’s house after I left, or even then, here. I don’t know how that boy maintains a 4.0 GPA when he can’t even keep tabs on one person in a small town like Roswell.”

“Just promise me that you’ll let him know where you are before you go to bed.”

“I promise.”

“Okay, goodnight.” Maria said before heading off to bed.

Liz made sure that her best friend’s door closed before unplugging the phone line and heading off to bed herself.

Yes, Abby...I know. Bad me. I'm grounded. But ya know what? When are you going to write more to Undercover? Or should I just go ahead and do it? People are going to get mean with you soon!

OKay you guys,

I am sorry to say that there will not be a new part out for at least a week. I was in a bad accident at about 10:00 last night with two of my other friends. One of them walked away unhurt, the other one was messed up as well as I. My right side is really hurt as well as my lower back and neck. Thank God we all had on our seat belts. I will try to post more soon, but we'll see.

I spent 2 and a half hours at the doctors today and they took like 15 freaking x-rays. I had to leave school early after kind of collapsing in Physics. Yeah. that happened about nine, and I didn't make it out until 11:30. Sigh...anyways, my friend Justin, who was rushed to the hospital to be checked out is in a shity condition as well. All I can say is that this damn motrin can kick in at anytime.
