Summary: AU set in the future. Maria owns a Magazine, Max is a photographer working for her. Liz and Isabel are best friends and both are models, Michael is Liz's agent, and Alex works for Maria doing the layouts for her Magazine! Max and Isabel are siblings, and they grew up in Roswell, as did Liz and Michael. Maria and Alex are from California. No on is an alien.
Max walked into the office building for DeLuca Magazine. He wasn't sure what he was getting himself into but he got a call personally from the owner saying that she wanted HIM to do the next shoot for her magazine. He was flattered because her magazine is the leading woman's magazine in the country. Everyone reads this thing and he's even picked it up once out of curiosity.
He noticed that the layouts were amazing and he couldn't help but wonder who took credit for that. He stopped at the counter waiting for the receptionist to look up and notice him standing in front of her. She didn't look up so he cleared his throat.
"Oh, I'm so sorry, I didn't see you there," the girl said.
"That's ok. Um, I'm here to see Maria DeLuca. My name is Max Evans," he said.
"Oh Mr. Evans, Miss DeLuca has been expecting you. Take the elevator to the 5th floor and she's the big office down the hall. I'll call up to her and tell her you are on your way," she said.
"Thanks," Max replied walking to the elevators. 'You'd think I was used to these things by now,' he thought. 'I shouldn't be nervous anymore.'
He clutched his portfolio tighter against him, something he always did when he was nervous. The doors opened and he stepped into the elevator and pushed the number five button and waited for the contraption to take him up. He took deep calming breaths trying to steady his racing heart.
'You can do this Evans, there's nothing to it,' he said to himself.
The doors opened and he stepped out cautiously. He could see the huge office at the end of the hall and took in a shaky breath before starting to walk. The hallway seemed to stretch for miles as he made his way to HER office. He stopped outside the door and knocked.
"Enter," Maria called.
Max opened the door and walked inside. He quickly scanned the room taking everything in. The room wasn't as neat as he expected, and everything looked comfortable. There was a dart board on the one wall, and a big couch against another. There was a big oak desk in the center with a computer sitting on it and two big leather chairs on one side and another leather chair behind the desk. Maria was walking out of the bathroom drying her hands on a towel. She smiled at him calming his nerves immediately.
Max smiled back and extended his hand. "It's a pleasure to meet you Miss DeLuca," he said.
"Thanks Max. It's a pleasure to meet you too, but since we are going to be working together for a few weeks, and hopefully more in the future, please call me Maria," she said.
"Ok, Maria," he replied.
"Good, now lets sit on the couch and take a look at this portfolio you've brought. Then we'll head to lunch with Alex. He does all my layouts, but he's also my best friend and if it wasn't for him I would never have started this magazine, and it wouldn't be this huge success," she said.
Just then a knock sounded at the door. "Maria, it's me," a male voice called.
"Come on in Alex. I was just talking about you," she told him as he walked through the door.
"All good things I hope," he teased stopping in front of Maria and Max. "I'm Alex Whitman, nice to meet you," he said offering his hand to Max.
"Max Evans, and the pleasure's all mine, trust me," he said shaking Alex's hand.
Alex sat on the other side of Maria and they both checked out Max's portfolio. "Wow, these pictures are amazing, where did you take them?" Alex asked.
"Well, the ones with the snow are from both Boston and the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. The desert ones are from New Mexico, where I'm from and the beach scenes are from Florida when my family and I went there on vacation once," Max explained to them.
Maria looked over at Alex and smiled. "You're hired," she said.
"Really?" Max asked astonished.
"Yeah, now lets go to lunch," Maria said.
They exited the building and climbed into Maria's limo and headed to lunch. Once they got to the restaurant they talked about anything but the shoot.
"So where in New Mexico did you grow up?" Maria asked.
"Um, actually in Roswell. You know the town famous for the alien crash of 1947. My sister was a waitress in this alien themed diner called the Crashdown as was one of her friends. Her parents owned the place. Liz is her name. Ah, anyway, I worked in the UFO center, you saw some pictures I took in there in the portfolio, and my friend Michael worked there for a little bit too before he became a cook at the Crash," Max told them.
'Liz, hmm, I wonder if Liz Parker is the Liz Max was talking about,' Maria thought. 'This is starting to get interesting!'
"Well, I grew up here in California, although not in Los Angles, I grew up in San Diego so did Alex. We've been best friends since kindergarten," Maria told him.
Lunch continued pretty much the same way. Just some small talk in the hopes of getting to know each other. After Maria paid for the bill they headed back to the office to work everything out.
"Ok, so we will be shooting in Hawaii. This is for the swimsuit addition of my magazine. I want woman to see all the types of bathing suits there are for the season so there will be lots of different shots," she told Max.
"That's fine. Do you want me to head out their first to scope out locations?" he asked.
"Yes. We'll all be there in a month. I'll pay for your airfare and hotel but until we get there you're on your own for food," she explained.
"That's more then fair. I didn't even expect you to pay for that. Ok, I'll leave as soon as possible," he said.
"I'll have my secretary call you with the details of your flight and everything. I'll see you in a month Max," Maria said shaking his hand.
"Yup, a month. Thanks Maria," Max said grabbing his portfolio and heading out the door.
Part 2- Carebehr (Carrie)
"Ladies and Gentlemen, we will be landing in Honolulu shortly. Please return
your seats to the upright position and the captain has turned on the fasten
seatbelt sign. The weather in Honolulu is a beautiful eighty-three degrees
and sunny. Please remain in your seats until the captain gives the okay to
disembark the aircraft. Thank you for flying with us." The flight attendant
said over the speaker.
Max sat up and looked around at the people scurrying to get back to their
seats as if they would explode if they didn't fasten their seatbelts in the
next few seconds. He laughed to himself as he closed his laptop and put it
under his seat. He had spent his last few days in Los Angeles doing research
on the Internet for possible locations. He knew he wanted to check out a few
of the beaches on the Main Island, as well as a couple on Maui and Kauai.
Maria had been very accommodating, setting up his air travel and his hotel
for him, and when he told her of the other possible locations he had in
mind, she had her secretary make hotel arrangements for him on Maui as well.
He figured he could take a boat to Kauai on a day trip and scout that
He wasn't an expert on fashion shoots, only really spending his time on
nature shots, but Maria obviously had faith in his ability and he wasn't
about to let her down. He thought back to a model he had briefly dated in
college and hoped that the ladies he'd be working with in Hawaii would be a
lot different than she was. Kate had been a complete narcissist. She couldn'
t pass a mirror without looking at herself in it. He would take her out to
dinner and all she would order was hot water with lemon. Max smiled at the
thought and laughed to himself. He remembered when he broke it off he had
actually told her to "eat something for God's sakes!" Kate had been a
beautiful girl, but she wasn't Max's type at all. She was blond with blue
eyes and way too skinny. There was just something about a girl whose ribs
showed through their clothes. It was just gross. No, he liked brunettes with
dark soulful eyes, and women who actually looked like women, not like the
stick figures he used to draw as a kindergartener.
Max felt the airplane lurch forward slightly as their altitude dropped, and
they prepared to land in Honolulu. He had never been to Hawaii before but
always thought it would be the perfect place for a honeymoon. Not that he
was ever going to get married. He just couldn't find the right woman. When
he was in high school he had secretly been in love with a girl in town, but
he never did anything about it because he was too shy. As he got older he
concentrated on college and his photography, and traveled too much to go out
more often than the occasional blind date, and those never worked out. He
had resigned himself to the fact that his work was his life and that was
okay with him.
The plane touched down and Max unfastened his seatbelt and stood up, even
before the "fasten seatbelt" sign was turned off. He wanted to be the first
one off the plane so he could get his luggage and get to his hotel. The
flight had only been five hours, but it wiped him out. He had to start
looking for locations the next morning, and he only had a month to get
everything set up. He wanted to get to bed early so he could watch the
sunrise and measure the amount of light they could get at dawn on the beach.
Maria had set him up at the nicest hotel on the island, and it was supposed
to have a beautiful beach. Maria's secretary had even said that she had a
workout video that was filmed there.
He walked off the plane and headed for baggage claim where he picked up his
two black duffle bags and headed outside to get a taxi. He set his bags down
on the curb and waved his hand out as a yellow cab pulled over and Max
hopped inside after throwing his bags in the trunk.
"Aloha!" the driver said cheerfully.
"Hi." Max said with a smile. "I mean Aloha."
"Where to?" the driver asked him as he eyed Max in the rear view mirror.
"The Hyatt Regency Waikiki Resort and Spa please." Max said looking at the
itinerary Maria's secretary had faxed him.
"Nice choice." The driver said. "By the way my name's Kimo."
"Max." Max said looking at his papers.
"What brings you to our beautiful island Max?" Kimo asked.
"I'm a photographer." Max said. "I'm scouting locations for a photo shoot."
"You and every other photographer from the mainland." Kimo laughed. "You
might want to consider some of the more "local" beaches. They are just as
beautiful and less crowded."
"Thanks for the advice." Max said smiling. "I'll look into it."
"Let me guess swimsuits right?" Kimo asked wiggling his eyebrows. "Beautiful
babes in bikini's?"
"Yep." Max smiled. "How'd you guess?"
"All of the young male photographers come here to shoot beautiful women in
bathing suits." Kimo said. "You're not from Sports Illustrated are you?"
"Nope, why?" Max asked confused.
"Oh no reason. I've just been dying to pick up one of those photographers,
you know, see if I could get on to the shoot as a visitor? They're layouts
are amazing." Kimo said smiling.
"Well just wait until you see the shoot I'm working on. It will blow SI out
of the water." Max said as they pulled up to his hotel.
"Well here's my card, why don't you send me a copy of it when it's published
Max." Kimo said handing him a card. "If you need a ride anywhere just give
"Will do." Max said handing him a twenty and taking the card. "See you later
Kimo, keep the change."
"Thanks." Kimo said "Aloha Max."
"Aloha." Max waved as the taxi drove away.
Max turned and walked to the front door of the hotel. He walked through it
as a large man in a uniform held the door open for him. Check in went
smoothly and Max was in the elevator heading to his room inside of ten
minutes. He wanted to drop his stuff off and then head down to the pool for
a quick swim before dinner.
Max walked in his room and dropped his duffle bags near the dresser. He
walked over to the window and opened the curtains, stepping out on to his
private balcony looking over the pool and the ocean. He saw the majestic
cave where the pool was located and smiled. Then he looked down to the beach
and his eyes lit up. It was unbelievable. The sand was a pearly white color
and the waves were crashing against the shore with perfect white wash riding
up the sand, lingering for a moment before disappearing underneath it. He
knew he would be able to get some great shots there, as well as the pool.
He walked over to the bed and sat down, picking up the phone and dialing
long distance to Los Angeles.
"Deluca Magazine how may I direct your call?" a female voice on the other
end of the phone asked.
"Max Evans calling for Maria Deluca please." Max said.
"Hold please." The female voice said professionally. A short moment later
she returned. "Ms. Deluca is in a meeting at the moment Mr. Evans but I can
put you through to Mr. Whitman if you'd like."
"That's fine. Thank you." Max said nicely.
"Hold please." She said and his ear was suddenly filled with the tunes of
Willy Nelson. Max laughed and made a mental note to talk to Maria about the
music they played on the phone.
"Max! How's Hawaii buddy?" Alex said as he came on the phone.
"Hey Alex." Max said. "Well I just got here but so far so good! It's
"Great." Alex said. "Well we're in the middle of interviewing the models, we
want to send you the best one's we can!" Alex said. "Any idea on locations?"
"Yeah, I'd like to do some shots on the hotel beach here, and maybe some at
the pool, it's very tropical. I'm also going to check out Maui in a few days
and then head over to Kauai." Max said. "I was also thinking it might be
neat to get some shots of the girls on the volcanoes, you know in bright
colored suits or something with the black background? Might make it really
interesting what do you think?"
"Sounds great." Alex said. "We could also get some shots of them on that
beach with the black sand, maybe in the water there." He suggested.
"Definitely!" Max said enthusiastically. "That sounds killer. I'll check
"Okay, I'll let Maria know so we can choose the suits accordingly. Just be
sure to fax us the locations as soon as you get a definite on them." Alex
"Great I will." Max said nodding.
"So enjoy yourself and I'll talk to you soon." Alex said.
"Okay, talk to you later." Max said and he hung up the phone.
He changed into his swimsuit and headed down to the pool carrying one of the
big white fluffy towels the hotel provided. He threw it down on one of the
lounge chairs and jumped into the pool without feeling the water first. He
was pleased when he realized it was nice and refreshing, not too warm and
not too cold. He swam a few laps and then headed under the waterfall into
the cave where he sat down on one of the submerged stools at the swim up
"What can I get you?" the bartender asked, wiping the counter.
"Umm..I'll have a Mai Tai I guess." Max said looking at the tropical drinks
everyone was sipping on.
The bartender nodded and a moment later he handed Max a tall drink with an
umbrella in it.
Max took a sip and immediately tasted the strong amount of alcohol that was
in it. He set it down and looked around the pool thinking of the fabulous
shots he could get inside the grotto.
"Well, well, well. If it isn't "why don't you eat something" Max Evans." A
female voice said behind him.
Max slowly turned around on his stool only to come face to face with the
stick figure herself.
"Hello Kate." Max said rolling his eyes. "What are you doing here?" he asked
taking a long sip of his drink.
"Oh, I'm here on assignment, I'm shooting the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit
Edition on Waikiki beach." Kate said eyeing Max's muscular bare chest.
"That's nice. I see you didn't take my advice." Max said looking at her ribs
through her white one piece and cringing.
"What advice would that be?" Kate asked.
"To eat something." Max said turning around to face the bar again and hoping
she'd go away.
"Very funny." Kate said, "but the men that read SI don't seem to agree with
"That's because the camera adds ten pounds." Max said. "You probably look
okay in the pictures, but in person you're way to skinny Kate. Besides
everyone knows that Sports illustrated airbrushes their pics."
"Whatever Max." Kate said looking over at a man at the other end of the bar
and smiling a fake smile. "What are you doing here anyway?" She asked
lighting a long slender cigarette.
"I'm scouting for locations." Max said.
"For more nature shots?" Kate asked with a snide tone. "When are you going
to learn that the money is in fashion Max not in snow covered mountains?"
"Actually I'm doing a bathing suit spread." Max said bored with the
"Really?" Kate said sounding surprised. "You know, when I'm done with this
SI shoot I'm off for a few months. I could do the shoot with you."
"No thanks. The magazine is sending in their own models." Max smiled and
looked at her. "Hopefully one's that consume more than cigarettes and lemon
"You're such an asshole." Kate said getting up and turning to walk away. She
paused and looked back at him. "Now I know why you still don't have a ring
on that finger." She nodded towards his hand and turned on her white high
heels sauntering off out of the cave as men turned their heads to look at
her less than statuesque frame.
Max rolled his eyes and waved over the bartender. "Another Mai Tai please." He said.
Part 3: (Angelique continues)
Liz Parker walked through the crowd in the street making her way towards the building where Deluca Magazine was housed. She was walking with a determined step, wanting the job her life long friend and manager Michel Guerin told her about. She quickly recalled the phone call she received just a few hours ago.
"Hey Liz, it's your favorite agent."
"Michel you're my only agent."
"Just making sure. Listen, I received a phone call from Maria Deluca's personal assistant today. It appears that they're going to be shooting a swimsuit issue in Hawaii. Are you interested?"
Liz knew this phone call was a big deal and would do wonders for her modeling career. She was already a successful model having done shows in Milan, Paris, and Rome. But to do a swimsuit layout for the likes of Deluca Magazine would make her a household name. They were even better than Sports Illustrated.
"Of course I'm interested. What do I have to do?"
"They're interviewing models today for the spots. I thought you would be interested so I set you up for a 12pm interview with Alex Whitman. But I heard through the grapevine that Deluca herself wants you for this job so I have a feeling that this interview is a mere technicality. But do your thing because we are talking about Hawaii."
"Don't worry Michel I'm going to leave that office with that job. Damn, Hawaii! Never been but always wanted to go and now's my chance."
"Fine. When you're through there give me a call and let me know how it went."
"Ok, bye Michel."
Liz pulled herself to the present as she walked through the glass doors of Deluca Magazine. She walked to the receptionist's desk and informed the secretary she was there to see Mr. Whitman. The secretary promptly led her to a conference room and told her Mr. Whitman would be with her shortly. While Liz waited she looked around at all the pictures that were hanging on the wall. Some of the pictures consisted of scenery shots that were breath taking. Those pictures reminded her of a guy she knew in high school. More to the point it reminded her of her best friends brother. She had a huge crush on him but never did anything about because he seemed out of her league. Her thoughts were interrupted by Alex's entrance.
"Hi, Liz I'm Alex."
"Hello, Mr. Whitman."
"Please, I'm not my father it's Alex."
Liz smiled liking Alex already. "Alex it is."
"Good, now lets get down to business. Do you know anything about the shoot."
"Just that it's a swimsuit issue being shot in Hawaii."
"Exactly. We're scouting locations as we speak because we want this to be an extra special issue blowing away our competition. This job will run from four to six weeks. As always the hours will be long depending on the lighting and everything. Of course we'll be taking care of your expenses. We chose you in particular for this shoot because of your exotic look."
Liz blushed at the compliment because she couldn't see the exotic look everyone always attributed to her. She had long shiny brown hair, tanned complexion, and was petite in size. But what everyone loved the most about her was her expressive brown eye that looked like to chocolate drops.
"So, tell me Liz, are you interested?"
"Oh, yeah, very much so."
"Fantastic! We'll be drawing up the contracts and you can sign them by Friday. The shoot is scheduled for the beginning of next month, but we'll fly you out there a week in advance so you can settle and be prepared for anything."
"That sounds great. Thank you Alex. Just one question."
"Sure, what's that?"
"You said you're already scouting locations, does that include the other islands?"
"Yes, we're having our photographer check all the islands for the best shots. I'm sure Max is gonna do a great job of it."
MAX. The name sent a shiver down Liz's spine. 'No it couldn't be.' Before Liz could question Alex further the secretary walked in.
"Mr. Whitman your next interview is here."
"Thank you. I'll be right there. Well Liz I must go. Just remember to stop by Friday to sign the contracts."
"I will. Thank you again."
They shook hands and Alex left the room.
'It couldn't be Max Evans.' Liz's mind was racing with many different thoughts. She was lost in her own world and almost didn't hear the person calling her name.
Liz turned towards the person and was shocked.
Part 4:...by Jenn :b
"Isabel?" Liz asked shocked.
"What are you doing here?" Isabel asked. "God how've you been?"
"Well, I think I'm here for the same reason you are," Liz said laughing. "I'm doing really well. I know you've got your interview so I'll let you go but call me on my cell when you get out, we'll get drinks or some dinner or something. I've got to call Michael right now anyway."
"Yeah, dinner and drinks sounds good to me. I'll definitely call you when I get out of here, we've got a lot to catch up on," Isabel said following the secetary into the confrence room.
Liz continued to walk down the hall thinking again of the Max she knew in high school. He and Michael were best friends and they used to do everything together. They always ate at her parents restaurant, the Crashdown, and Liz used to watch him from afar praying that he'd say something to her, but he never did. Sometimes she would catch him looking at her but whenever they made eye contact someone always looked away. Those were the days she was scared and shy, the days before she befriended, well became best friends is the correct term, with Isabel Evans, Max's sister.
Isabel helped bring Liz out of her shell. They both went to the same college neither realizing it until they found out they were roomates. Liz rememberd Max walking in behind Isabel carrying a really big box. She could see his muscles though his t-shirt and had to sit down for fear of her legs giving out. Neither one of them said anything that day but Isabel noticed the looks they kept giving one another and asked Liz about it after her parents and Max left that evening. That was the beginning of their beautiful friendship.
A horn honking broke Liz out of her musings and she realized that she managed to walk outside without even realizing it. She reached into her purse and pulled our her cell phone. She dialed Michael's number and waited for him to pick up the phone.
"Hello?" Michael said picking up the phone.
"Michael," Liz replied.
"Oh Liz, hey. I was just thinking to myself 'Gee Liz's interview should be over by now why isn't she calling me?' and here you are calling. I must be pyschic or something," he said.
"Yeah psychotic is more like it," Liz said rolling her eyes. "Anyway, I got the job. My contract will be drawn up and ready by Friday. Oh shoot, I forgot to tell them that I need you to come with me. Help me think of an excuse just in case I need one."
"Uh honey, managers always get to go. Jeez how long have you been working in this business?" he teased her.
"Shut up Michael. Usually they mention something about managers, Alex didn't and I forgot to ask," Liz told him.
"Well don't sweat it. Read over the contract on Friday and if it doesn't say anything about managers coming along just tell them that when I signed on to be your manager we made a deal in writing that I always go with you, as more then just a manager. Tell them I'm your bodyguard too or something," he tells her. "So are we going to dinner to celebrate?"
"Yeah that sounds good. Oh guess who I ran into today?" she said.
"Who?" Michael questioned hating guessing games.
'He never makes a guess the big party pooper,' Liz thought. "Isabel. She was going in for an interview too, and she'll be joining us for dinner and drinks," Liz told him.
"Oh sweet Miss Evans. I hope she drops that whole Ice Princess personna while at dinner. It was old in high school, not to mention now that we're older," Michael said.
"Well she needs to keep the creeps like you away somehow," Liz said in a sugary sweet voice.
"I'll remember that Parker. Just you wait I'll get you back at dinner," he said knowing she that she was only teasing him but resolved in the fact that he was going to pay her back later on at dinner.
"Ok, I'm going to go. I'm wasting minutes talking to you! I'll see you at dinner tonight," Liz said.
"Ok, talk to you later," Michael replied hanging up the phone.
Liz flipped her cell phone closed and dropped it back into her purse. She contemplated on waiting around for Isabel or just going home. The thought of going home was more appealing so she jumped into her car and headed to her beach front house.
Isabel sat down at the table waiting for whomever was giving the interviews to come into the room. She took this opportunity to look around and noticed all the landscape pictures on the walls. They reminded her of her brother. She missed Max very much. The last she'd heard he was doing a shoot for National Geographic. He was good at his job and he loved getting to go to all those exotic places to take pictuers, but he had said once that he wanted to take pictures of more people, not just trees, lakes, and the such.
The door closing snapped Isabel back to the present time and she looked up to see who walked in. A man dressed in blue jeans and a nice maroon polo shirt with the top two buttons undone. She wondered who this person was. He was cute, ok, cute wasn't the correct word. Handsome, magnificant, amazing, those words described him, and the fact that he was here in this prestidgous place dressed causually only made him more intriguing.
"Hi, you must be Isabel Evans. I'm Alex Whitman," Alex said extending his hand.
Isabel took his hand in a firm hand shake. "You're Alex Whitman?" Isabel asked astonished.
"Yup the one and only," he said laughing.
Even to himself his laugh sounded shallow and nervous. Isabel was beyond stunning, she was just plain gorgeous. Sure he had seen pictures of her in other magazines and the such but one of them did her justice. She was a Goddess. He'd have to make sure to thank Maria later for letting him do the screening. Of course she would meet with all the girls he deemed worthy at the end of the week before they signed their contracts just to make sure, but he had a feeling Maria was going to keep this one.
'Hmm, Evans, where have I heard that name before,' he thought to himself. 'Oh yeah! Max. I wonder if they are related?'
"So Isabel have you ever been to Hawaii?" Alex managed to ask without having his voice shake. He'd never been so effected by a woman before and it was kind of scary.
"Um, no Mr. Whitman," Isabel said trying to steady her own shaky voice. Her pulse was racing about a mile a minute and she was afraid he was going to notice.
"Please, call me Alex. As I told Liz, the other girl in here, I believe I saw you two talking before, anyway as I told her Mr. Whitman makes me think my father is here in the room with us," Alex said laughing.
The rest of the interview went very well. They both seemed to calm down consideribly. The secertary once again interrupted, "Mr. Whitman, Ms. DeLuca is calling for you she said that there is a crisis with the copy machine, or something to that effect. She was pretty hysterical so I couldn't make it out."
"Thanks, tell Maria I'll be right up," Alex said before turning back to Isabel. "I'm sorry to cut this so short, but when the boss calls you run like hell," he said. "The contracts will be drawn up on Friday. All you'll have to do is sign."
"Thank you Alex," Isabel said walking with him out the door. "I'm really looking forward to doing this shoot."
"We're looking forward to having you on the team as well," he said punching the up button on the elevator.
Isabel walked out the main entrance and breahted a sigh of relief. 'If only Max could see me now,' she thought.
She pulled out her cell phone and dialed Liz's number. Liz picked up after two rings and told Isabel where to meet her and Michael. They enjoyed a wonderful dinner and caught up on everything going on in their lives. Isabel and Liz hadn't seen one another since their last shoot in Paris, a little over four months ago so they had a lot of things to talk about. Michael listened with half and ear trying not to seem too interested, but intereseted nonetheless.
The rest of the week flew by for Isabel and Liz. They spent most of their days together shopping, going to the gym, or just hanging out. Before either of them realized it Friday was upon them. They both walked into the office building stopping at the front desk.
"Can I help you?" the secetary said.
"Yes we are here to sign our contracts. I guess we're looking for Maria DeLuca's office," Isabel said.
"Oh you two are models, I'm sorry, I should have recgonized you. You're Elizabeth, and Isabel right? Miss DeLuca is expecting you. Take the elevator to the fifth floor and you can't miss the huge office. I'll buzz up to her and tell her you're on your way," she said.
"Thank you," Liz said as she and Isabel walked to the elevators.
They walked up to Maria's door and knocked. "Come in," Maria called.
She watched as the two beautiful, women walked through the door. 'Their coloring is so different that they complement one another. I'll have to talk to Max about putting them in a few pictures together,' Maria thought.
She invited the girls to sit on the couch and she pulled a beanbag chair in front of them. They talked business for a little while. The girls signed their contracts, and Liz was happy to see that managers could be brought along if they so chose to come. Liz told Maria that her manager Michael definitely wanted to come and Maria said she'd make sure arangements were made for his stay. After all the business was taken care of Maria invited the girls out for some ice cream so they could gab and get to know one another.
Max closed the door of his hotel room, the day just didn't seem like it was ever going to end. He scouted the other islands today and found some prime spots for the shoots. He thought about calling Maria to tell her but he was just too tired and it was too late back in California so he figured he'd wait until the morning.
He needed to tell Alex about Hanauma Bay in Honolulu, it is beautiful and pictures with the girls, maybe under the water with the beautiful colored fish swimming around them, it will be awesome. Then of course there is Waimea Valley Adventure Park. They have awesome waterfalls, and rain forest scenery perfect for this shoot. That's in Haleiwa though, but he didn't think there would be a problem with that. The place is gorgeous.
Max drifted off to sleep with thoughts of these beautiful places and the types of pictures he'd like to take while there.
The place from San Deigo landed in Hawaii on time and all the weary passengers disembarked. Max had called Kimo and told him of the rest of his party ariving that day. Kimo said he'd go and pick them up along with the best of his other drivers. Max thanked him for all he's done over the past month, and if there was anyway he could get him on set he would sure as hell try.
Kimo and his drivers all held signs saying DeLuca Party on them surprising Maria. "I don't remember asking for any limo service to meet us," she said out loud.
"Oh well you didn't ma'am. You see Max told me that you'd be arriving today and at what time you'd be getting here. I picked him up on his first day here last month and he's called me up everytime he needed a ride, so he asked me if I'd be so kind as to pick all of you up," Kimo said.
"Oh, well thank you. I'll have to really thank Max for this. I'm so tired I wasn't sure if I'd be able to stand here long enough to hail a cab," Maria said.
Kimo and the others loaded all the bags into the cars and took their passengers to the hotel. Maria thanked them all and gave them big tips saying that if they needed a ride anywhere she knew just who to call. Kimo thanked her and rounded up his guys and left.
Alex had gone ahead to check everyone in and came back with room keys. He handed Liz her and Isabel's key and the girls grabbed their bags and headed to their room.
"What room are we in?" Isabel asked.
"Room, 242," Liz said as Isabel pushed the button for the second floor on the elevator. They stepped off the elevator and looked for their room. They found it in record time and Liz went about opening the door up.
Liz managed to get the door open after the thrid try and she and Isabel dropped their luggage on the ground and flopped into bed. The minute their door closed Max walked off the other elevator. He stopped in front of room 244, and inserted his key. The door opened immediately and he dove into his bed. He needed a good nights rest because tomorrow he was to meet all the models and discuss everything about the shot with Alex and Maria.
Part 5 (Carrie continues.)
Max rolled over and looked at his alarm clock, sitting up when he realized
he didn't get his wake up call. He would have to hurry to get downstairs on
time to meet Maria, Alex and the models.
Max had message waiting for him on his phone the previous night letting him
know that Maria had set up a breakfast for the whole crew this morning in
the hotel's restaurant. All of the models and hair and make up professionals
were going to be there, as well as Alex and Isabel and all of the model's
managers. Max wondered if the models would be even eating breakfast as he
jumped out of bed and rushed to the window to pull the curtains back.
His room had been pitch dark due to the black out curtains on the windows,
but when he pulled them back, his room was flooded with bright morning
sunshine. He was instantly awake and walked back over to his bed pulling out
his clothes for the day. He knew that he would be showing Alex, and whoever
else wanted to tag along, the locations he had picked out so they could get
some ideas for the layout in the issue. He pulled out a pair of shorts and a
black t-shirt thinking they would be suitable for breakfast and trekking all
day around the islands.
He hopped in the shower quickly and got dressed in record time. He put some
gel in his wet hair and combed it hoping it would dry okay, and decided to
shave at the last minute. He put on some sunscreen before grabbing his
camera and other equipment from the top of the dresser and heading out the
door down to breakfast.
"Isabel come on, hurry up!" Liz said impatiently as she tapped her foot and
stood next to the door waiting for her friend.
"I'm coming." Isabel said. "I just need to find my hair clip in case the
wind gets too bad."
"Why what will happen if the wind gets bad?" Liz laughed. "You're hair will
blow right off?"
"Very funny." Isabel said rolling her eyes. "Don't you remember? My hair
gets really frizzy in the wind."
"Well what are you going to do today besides lay out at the pool?" Liz
asked. "I mean you weren't planning on going to look at the locations were
"I don't know." Isabel said. "I hadn't really thought about it. I just know
I need my hair clip." She said as she looked through her make-up case again.
"A-ha! I got it."
"Good let's go." Liz said opening the door to their room. "We're already ten
minutes late and Michael chews me out when I'm not on time for professional
things like this." Liz looked down the hallway just in time to see a dark
haired guy in a black t-shirt step into the elevator. "Hurry up, the
elevator is there!"
Isabel and Liz ran out their door and down the hallway yelling for the man
to hold the elevator for them but it was no use the doors shut seconds
before they got there.
"Damn. What a jerk!" Liz said as she pressed the "down" button over and over
"Maybe he didn't hear us?" Isabel said looking at Liz.
"He had to have, we were yelling all the way down the hall." Liz rolled her
eyes. "Still, he did have nice after shave. Do you smell it?" she asked.
Isabel sniffed the air. "Yes and yuck!" she said. "It reminds me of my dad
or brother or something."
"Your brother? You mean Max?" Liz asked as she sniffed the air again. It did
smell like him. Isabel was right.
"Weird." Isabel said. "Every now and then I meet some gorgeous guy and then
I get a whiff of his cologne or after shave and it smells like one of them
and it's like SEE YA!" Isabel said waving her hand. "I swear Liz you are so
lucky you don't have to deal with that."
"Well I kind of know what you mean." Liz nodded. "My dad wore after shave
too but luckily I only ever smell it on old men at the super market or
something." She laughed before changing the subject. "Isabel I wanted to ask
you about.." Liz started to say something but the elevator doors opened and
Michael stood there looking at them.
"Where have you two been?" Michael asked obviously not happy. "They're
waiting for you downstairs. Luckily the photographer just showed up as well
so it doesn't make you two look as late. Come on."
Liz and Isabel stepped into the elevator alongside Michael and rode down to
the lobby. When the elevator doors opened they stepped out and Michael led
them to the restaurant and into the private conference room that Maria had
reserved. There was a table set up with muffins, donuts, orange juice,
coffee and other continental breakfast items.
"Come on let's sit down." Michael said leading them to the seats next to his
that were empty.
"I want to get something to eat." Liz said. "I'm starving."
"Fine just be quick about it." Michael said. "Grab me a blueberry muffin too
Liz nodded. "Okay I'll be right back." She said as she walked over to the
table and loaded up a plate with two blueberry muffins and a cheese danish.
She turned around to walk back to the table when suddenly a tall man with a
toupee bumped into her, spilling all of his orange juice down the front of
"I'm so sorry." He said as he looked around the room nervously. People were
starting to take their seats and he didn't want to look stupid. He quickly
ran away and left Liz standing there alone with juice covering her white
Michael had seen the entire thing happen and he jumped up and walked over to
Liz. "What a jerk." He said trying to help Liz wipe off the juice. "Why don'
t you run up to your room and change? I'll tell Maria what happened."
"It's okay, I have a halter top on under my cardigan. Let me just go to the
bathroom and try to blot as much of the juice out of it as I can and then I'
ll be right back." Liz said casually. "I'll just stop at the front desk and
have them send it out to be cleaned."
"Ok." Michael nodded. "Hurry."
Liz nodded and rushed out of the room almost knocking over a guy that was
trying to make his way from the door to his seat. She bumped into him and
muttered a quick "Sorry." Before rushing past him without looking up from
her ruined sweater.
Max tried to steady himself as the girl rushed past him almost causing him
to fall over and drop his camera equipment. He regained his balance and
looked behind him to give her a piece of his mind, but she had disappeared.
He walked into the room and after saying a quick hello to Maria and Alex, he
took his seat.
"Max?" he heard someone say his name and he turned around in his chair to
see a surprised Isabel standing behind him.
"Isabel!" Max said jumping up and hugging his sister. "What are you doing
"I'm one of the models!" Isabel said happily. "Don't tell me you're the
photographer? I thought you were in Kenya or something!"
"Nope, I've been here for the last couple of weeks scouting locations." Max
said shaking his head.
Isabel hit him in the shoulder. "You better call mom and dad, they're
getting worried about you." She said angrily. "You could have called me too
"I know I'm sorry." Max apologized. "It just happened really fast."
"Ok you're forgiven." Isabel smiled again. "Guess who else is here?" she
"Who?" Max asked wondering who it could be. He wasn't going to hear her
answer though because Maria was banging something on the table causing
Isabel and him to turn around and focus their attention on her. Isabel
rolled her eyes and Max whispered, "We'll catch up later."
Isabel nodded and headed for her seat as Maria started the meeting.
"Okay" Maria started. "First of all I'd like to thank everyone for coming to
this wonderful Island Paradise for the shooting of out special swimsuit
issue." The room exploded in applause and when the noise died down Maria
continued. "Now as most of you know Herbert, the photographer we have used
in our previous shoots has left to go on sabbatical, so we have a new
photographer with us this year. Mr. Max Evans." Everyone applauded again and
Max nodded his head and smiled as Maria went on. "Max has been here scouting
locations for the last few weeks, and Alex and I both think that with his
fresh outlook and expertise on nature, this is going to be our best issue
yet. Max do you have anything to say?"
Max looked at her with a shocked expression. He was never very good at
public speaking. "Well," he began, "I'd just like to also thank everyone for
coming and I'd like to let everyone know that this is going to be a fun
shoot in some gorgeous settings. Since we're in Hawaii, I expect everyone to
play as hard as they work, just come to the shoots ready to work and we'll
all get along."
"Well said!" Alex piped in smiling and nodding.
"Very good." Maria said. "Now I'd like to go around the room and introduce
the models so Max knows who everyone is. To avoid spending to much time on
this part of the meeting, I'm not going to introduce the make-up and hair
people or the model's managers right now, but feel free to mingle with each
other after breakfast so you all know each others names and such. This is
going to be a long shoot and I expect everyone to get along like family.
That's what make these shoots fun. Now let's get started!"
Maria looked to her right and started to go around the room.
"First off we have Samantha Lewis." Maria said as the blond nodded her head
and smiled towards Max and then the rest of the girls.
"Next is Hannah Fredrick." Maria said and the red head smiled and took a sip
of her water with lemon in it.
"On her right is Kylie Green." Maria added and the pretty brunette looked at
Max with piercing green eyes and smiled shyly
"Of course I think you know Isabel Evans." Maria said with a laugh. "She's
Max's sister." Maria explained to the rest of the group as they nodded their
heads. Isabel winked at Max.
Maria looked at the empty seat next to Isabel and said, "Our next model had
a slight emergency and had to leave for a minute but she should be right"
Maria paused. "Oh good, here she is now" Maria looked up to see Liz standing
in the doorway behind where Max was sitting.
Max saw Maria's gaze rest on someone behind him and he slowly turned his
chair around to see what she was looking at. Time seemed to stand still as
he saw small feet in red sandals, with red painted toenails and a silver toe
His eyes traveled slowly up her tanned shapely legs until they reached a
white skirt and then a tiny waist. Max inhaled deeply as he looked at her
toned torso and perfectly shaped breasts covered in a red halter-top. He
gazed involuntarily at her slender tanned arms and then to her feminine
neckline and jawbone, finally resting on her face. His deep brown eyes
locked with hers as he noticed her swallow nervously as she looked back at
him in the same state of shock he was experiencing.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, this is our next model, Elizabeth Parker." Maria said
as they continued to look at each other.
"Liz, this is our photographer." Maria started to say but Liz interrupted
"Max Evans." Liz said in barely above a whisper.
"Right. I see you two know each other as well." Maria smiled and looked at
Isabel who was grinning ear to ear. She made a mental note to find out about
it later. "Well moving on." Maria continued but Max and Liz weren't paying
any attention to her.
Liz made her way over to the other side of the table to sit next to Michael,
as she walked, she could feel Max's eyes burning into her the entire time.
When she sat down she couldn't help but look across the table at him and
their eyes locked again. Liz was having trouble concentrating on what Maria
was telling them and her breathing started to become more labored.
"Are you okay?" Isabel whispered.
Liz nodded as she continued to stare at Max. "Pretty weird that my brother's
Liz nodded again. "Did you know?" she whispered back not taking her eyes off
"Nope, I'm as surprised as you are honey." Isabel said smiling at their
reactions to one another.
"I doubt that." Liz said as she continued to stare into Max's eyes from
across the table.
Part 6 (Angelique continues)
For Liz the meeting just went on and on. If they were to ask her what was going on she couldn't respond. She was facing Maria and nodding her head as if she were following along, but the couldn't be any more farther from the truth. Her whole being was distracted by the sexy man sitting across from her. Max Evans was actually here. He was the photographer. Her head was still spinning from that fact. Through the whole meeting her eyes kept going back towards him and their eyes would lock constantly and then turn away at the same time. 'Damn he looks even better than the last time I saw him. I can still get lost in his amber pools. Can I just run my fingers through his hair? He's going to be mine.' Liz thought to herself.
'There's my angel and my love, Liz Parker. She's still as beautiful as I remember, maybe even more. I can't believe it the feelings are still there if not stronger. As if I could ever stop loving her. She's going to be mine.' Max thought to himself. He chanced another glance at her as he had through out the meeting. This time he stared at her lips wanting to jump over the table and kissed them till he couldn't breathe anymore.
"Is that ok with you Max and Liz?" Maria asked.
They both jumped at hearing their names. They both looked at Maria with a glazed look in their eyes, embarrassed that they had no clue as to what was going on.
"I'm sorry Maria I was thinking about something else. What were you saying?" Max asked trying to save Liz any embarrassment.
Maria gave him a knowing look and looked at Liz as well, but she didn't say anything. She definitely needed to find out what was the story between these two from Isabel.
"I said since we have a few days to play with I think you should show each of the models the locations we're using if they're interested. I know Liz asked about the locations and I suggested that maybe you should start with her. Take her to some of the locations tomorrow and get a feel for them. Is that ok with both of you?"
"Yes!" They answered at the same time. They gave each other a shy smile.
"Great, then we're all set. Enjoy the next few days soaking up what this little paradise has to offer. Come Monday the hard work begins. I'll be sure to let you know your itinerary before then. Work is over time for play. Mingle for about two hours then you can disperse."
Everyone got up from their chairs and started mingling with everyone else.
Max turned around to see his best friend Michel Guerin coming up to him.
"Michel, man how are you?"
"Fine and you? I was told that a Max Evans was going to be the photographer but I wasn't sure it was you."
"Yup, it's me what are you doing here?"
"One of the perks of being a manager. I'm Liz's manager." Michel said motioning to Liz who was standing behind him.
Max's eyes immediately went to Liz and he felt a smile brightening his face again.
"Liz what kind of greeting is that for my brother? You haven't seen each other in a long time. Give him a hug." Isabel said with a big grin on her face.
Max and Liz looked ready to kill Isabel, but she just kept grinning like a fool. Liz stepped up to Max and put her arms around him in a hug. Max practically melted into the floor from the feeling of ecstasy. Liz's head started swimming from Max's scent. They slowly pulled away from each other slowly, not wanting to break the connection. They kept looking into each other's eyes. Michel interrupted their staring contest. He was completely oblivious as to what was going on in front of him.
"Hey, what say tonight we all have dinner together and catch up? Max?"
They both agreed and so they planned to meet in the hotel restaurant.
"Oh, I have yet to talk to Maria Deluca and I see she's free so I'm going to go over and talk to her. Max, I'll see you tonight. Liz we'll talk later." Michel said and he walked away.
"I got to talk to Alex, excuse me." Isabel said beating a hasty retreat.
"So, how've ya been Max?"
"Good, but not as good as you. I mean you're a super model."
"I wouldn't say super, but ya I made it into the modeling business."
"You would what?"
"Say you were a super model."
The look in his eyes made her catch her breath in her throat. She couldn't put a name to it but it made her warm inside.
"Uh, thanks. So, umm, what time shall we meet tomorrow to go see some of the locations."
"It should be early. How about 7am, unless that's too early for you?"
"No, that's fine."
"Good, so, I'll stop by your room and pick you up. What room are you in?"
"I'm in 242?"
Max's jaw dropped and he stared at her for a minute.
"Max, is something wrong."
Max closed his mouth and shook his head.
"No, everything is perfect. I'm in room 244."
Liz looked at Max and smiled a 1000-watt smile. They shared the same thought.
'This is going to be on hell of a shoot'
Part 7….by Jenn :b
Max checked himself in the mirror one last time to make sure he looked decent before grabbing his key. He had to meet Michael, Isabel, and Liz in the lobby in ten minutes. He was so nervous about having dinner with Liz and if he didn’t calm his nerves down he had a feeling he’d end up doing something stupid, like knocking over some sort of beverage and getting it on whatever she was wearing. He didn’t know why he was so nervous, it wasn’t like he never dated anyone before so he took a deep breathand headed out the door.
Liz checked herself in the mirror for the hundredth time since she had gotten out of the shower and Isabel had to hold back a laugh. Liz glared at her friend and Isabel gave her the patented “Ice”glare. Liz rolled her eyes and turned back to the mirror.
“Are you sure my hair looks ok down? It’s not too frizzy?” Liz asked.
“Liz, babe, calm down. It’s just a dinner with Michael, my brother, and Alex,” Isabel said. “You look fine, and your hair is pin straight therefore it doesn't get frizzy…unlike mine which is a little wavy and gets to be a huge frizz ball in humid weather.”
“Alex is coming?” Liz asked astonished.
“Uh, well, um…yeah I sort of invited him to come,” Isabel said blushing.
“Why Izzy I do believe you have a crush on the boss’s right hand man,” Liz said teasing.
“I’m going to get you for that Liz Parker,” Isabel said chasing Liz.
Liz managed to grab a key off the dresser and run to the door. Isabel was close on her heals and Liz threw open the door runninginto the hallway without even looking where she was going.
The moment she felt the contact she felt like dying. Liz ran into something firm but at the same time soft so she knew right off the bat that she ran into a person, and from the way this person smelled she was sure it was a man.
The person wrapped his arms around her trying to steady them both since the force of the impact almost took him down as well as her. He had no idea who just ran into him but at the moment that wasn’t important, he just needed to keep them both from landing on the ground.
She smelt wonderful and he felt drunk from just her perfume. It was a mix of Vanilla and spice and it was making his head swim. The moment he was positive that they were both secure on their feet he let his arms fall away from her perfect sized waist and glanced down.
Liz’s face was flaming beyond belief and she was almost too afraid to look up into her savior’s arms. She heard Isabel stop running while she was still in the man’s arms and so she knew that Isabel noticed that she ran into a complete stranger.
Max gasped out loud when he realized who almost knocked him over. He hadn’t realized that he only walked downone door since he was so lost in thought. He had just had Liz Parker, the woman of his dreams in his arms, and he hadn’t even realized it.
Liz looked up the moment she heard the man gasp and her mouth fell open in shock. She had run into Max Evans. Her face turned even brighter red and she just wanted the floor to open up and swallow her whole. This had just gotten worse. It was bad enough that she thought she ran into a complete stranger but no she had to run into Max Evans, the man she was madly in love with.
“Max, oh God, I’m so sorry, I wasn’t paying attention and Isabel was chasing me and oh God, I’m so embarrassed,” she rambled on.
“Liz…Liz calm down,” Max said trying to brake her stream of comments.
“Huh?” she said finally snapping out of her stupor.
“I’m fine, we didn’t fall, and everyone is ok. I’m just glad that you didn’t get hurt,” Max said. “Don’t apologize, I know how ruthless Izzy can be when she’s chasing you and all is forgiven,” he added trying to lighten the mood.
Liz smiled at him and he thought his heart would melt. She had a killer smile and Max knew that he’d never get tired of seeing it. He remembered in high school how he would just hope for a glimpse at one of her smiles, and now here she was actually bestowing one to him.
“Come on the others are probably waiting for us,” Isabel said snapping both Max and Liz from their thoughts.
“Huh, what do you mean others? I thought we were just meeting Michael?” Max asked.
“Nope, Izzy asked Alex to join us,” Liz said.
Isabel glared at her best friend and took a step towards her. Liz jumped and hid behind Max peaking her head around him to stick her tongue out. She hadn’t realized that she pressed her body up to his or how that simple move affected him.
Isabel stuck her tongue back out at Liz and headed towards the elevators. Max started to follow but was stopped by something. He turned around and saw Liz looking at him with helpless eyes. He raised a questioning eyebrow at her and she pointed to his sleeve. Her bracelet got caught to the button on his sleeve and she couldn’t get it off. He smiled at her and untangled it for her. She thanked him and headed in the direction of the elevator leaving Maxto his thoughts. He took a deep breath and said a silent prayer and ran to catch up to Liz and Isabel.
The elevator bell dinged and three pairs of eyes turned towards them. The doors opened to revel the there people they were waiting for and Maria breathed a sigh of relief. The tension was beginning to mount with Michael getting agitated not knowing where Liz and Isabel were.
“What the hell took you all so long?” Michael practically yelled.
“Michael, just calm down,” Liz said.
“I will not…” He started but stopped when he looked at Max.
Max had raised an eyebrow at his friend and Michael remembered that look from way back when in high school, and you didn’t mess with Max when he got that particular face on.
“We had a little accident in the hallway upstairs,” Max said. “Isabel and Liz were playing and Izzy was chasing her and Liz ran into the hallway almost knocking me on my ass, but everyone is up and ok.”
Alex started laughing causing all heads to whip in his direction. “I’m sorry, but I just pictured it and it seems so funny. I mean Liz weighs considerably less then you do and I just pictured her barreling out of the room fast enough to actually knock you down and it was funny. Sorry,” he said.
“It’s ok, I was surprised that she almost took me down myself,” Max said. “But we have reservations awaiting us so why don’t we just head to the restaurant.”
Liz thanked him silently with her eyes for changing the subject. She was still embarrassed for not only barreling out of her room but for knocking into Max as well and she was in no mood to relive that experience.
They were shown to their table immediately and they fell in love with the atmosphere. It was gorgeous, with exotic flowers all around and palm trees in the corners. Everything was bright and colorful and it just made you want to smile. The waiter came and took their drink orders. Alex got one of those coconut drink things, Michael got a Gin and Tonic, Max got water, Isabel and Liz got Malibu Bay Breezes and Maria got a Whisky Sour.
Isabel and Max caught up on the things that have been going on in their lives since the last time they had talked to one another. Isabel scolded him for not calling their parents often because she said that their mom was always complaining that Max never calls. He promised that he’d call them that night and more often in the future.
Maria watched Max and Liz as discreetly as possible during dinner and she noticed all the longing looks they gave one another when the other wasn’t looking. ‘I really need to talk to Isabel and find out the deal between these two,’ Maria thought to herself.
Isabel excused herself from the table and looked over at Liz but she was lost inconversation with Michael and Max so she let it slide. Since Max was involved with the conversation and all. If he hadn’t been she would have grabbed her friend and headed to the bathroom with her, but she didn’t want to intrude on any time that her brother and best friend could share together.
Maria noticed Isabel getting up and excused herself moments after Isabel left the table.
“What is it with women and going to the bathroom in two’s?” Alex asked.
“I don’t know man but I always wondered that,” Michael said.
The guys looked expectedly at Liz and she just shrugged her shoulders. “I don’t know, we gossip in there. You know we talk about our dates, or what hot guys are in the bar, things like that,” she said.
Maria caught up to Isabel in the bathroom and waited until everyone cleared out ofthe room before asking Isabel her question.
“Ok, you are probably going to think I’m either psychotic, or just too damned nosey but I need to know the answer to this question,” Maria said. “What’s up with Max and Liz?”
Isabel just laughed. “You know I think they are the only people who don’t notice the looks that they give one another. They have had crushes on one another since High School, but they were both too shy to do anything about it. I knew Max was like in love with her since we lived in the same house and everything, but Liz confided that information to me one night back in college. We were roommates and she just told me that she had always been in love with my brother, but felt that she was out of his league. I helped her change a little bit, you know with self confidenceand everything, but she’s still shy.”
“Oh I get it now. Well, you and I are going to have to do everything in our power to get them together then won’t we?” Maria said with a gleam in her eye.
“Yes we will,” Isabel said laughing.
They made their way back to the table just in time to order desert. Liz had a brownie sundae, Isabel had an apple cobbler, Alex had a slice of cheese cake, Michael and Maria got a piece of Key Lime Pie, and Max got a piece of pineapple cake.
After desert everyone retired to their room promising to meet for dinner the next night. Max and Michael boarded one elevator with Alex jogging in behind them and the girls took the other one.
“So Maria is a nice person huh?” Michael asked.
“Holy shit! You invited her to dinner. I thought Alex brought her along. Yeah I love her she’s great. I mean she’s giving me the shot of a lifetime, especially since all I’ve ever shot was nature pictures,” Max said.
“Shut up Max,” Michael said blushing at the comment about him asking Maria to dinner. “I just thought she might like to have dinner with all of us since, well you know, oh I don’t know.”
Max smiled at his friend’s discomfort. The elevator stopped on the second floor and they all got off. Michael and Alex headed one way while Max headed the other.
“I’ll see you guys tomorrow,” Max called walking to his room.
The next morning was hectic for Max. He needed to grab his camera and some extra film and meet Liz in the lobby and he only had about five minutes left. This was not good, he hated to be rushed and since he missed his first wake up call he was running behind.
Liz was sitting on one of the chairs in the lobby when Max hurriedly got off the elevator. “I’m sorry I’m late. I sort of missed my wake up call,” he said.
“It’s no problem, come on let’s go,” she said. “Where are we going first?”
“I was thinking of starting off at Hanauma Bay and then just winging it from there. I want to start the shoot of at the Bay because it’s simply breathtaking,” he told her.
They boarded the ferryboat and sat on one of the benches over looking the water just enjoying the view and the company. Once they landed in the harbor Max helped Liz climb off the boat and they walked the little path that led to the beach.
“Max! It’s gorgeous,” Liz cried.
“I knew you’d like it. I just happened to come here and thought, I need to take pictures in this place,” he confessed.
The Bay was horseshoe shaped with white sandy beaches and crystal blue water. The lush green mountain, or volcano actually, was just the most beautiful sight Liz had ever seen. She was very impressed with Max’s selection!
Part 8 Carrie
“Wow, no wonder this place is famous.” Liz asked her eyes wide, as she looked at the white sandy beach of Hanauma Bay.
“I know.” Max said nodding. “What do you think?”
“It’s gorgeous.” Liz said. “Just beautiful.”
“It’s really is beautiful isn’t it.” Max said agreeing with Liz’s observation and nodding his head. He looked over at the breeze blowing her hair in the wind and sighed.
“Yes. It’s perfect. I think we could get some great shots here Max.” Liz said as she shaded her eyes from the sun with her hand and looked down the beach.
“Did you by any chance bring your swimsuit?” Max asked shyly.
“Yep.” Liz answered. “I’ve been wearing it underneath my clothes since I got to Hawaii. Why?” she asked.
“Well Hanauma Bay is famous for great snorkeling. I thought we could try it out.” He said. “You know for research purposes.” Max said professionally.
“Oh right.” Liz nodded. “For research purposes.” She smiled at him and noticed how handsome he looked in his black sunglasses.
“So do you want to?” Max asked hesitantly.
“Sure.” Liz said. “I’m up for it. I mean who am I to get in the way of research?”
Max laughed. “Ok come on then.” He said taking off his shirt to reveal bronzed biceps and a deeply tanned muscular chest and six-pack abs.
Liz inhaled sharply at the sight of his body. “Umm right ok.” She stammered. “Should we just leave our stuff here?”
“No, let’s take it down to the beach with us. We’ll rent some equipment and towels and stuff and we can leave it on the beach with out towels.” Max said reaching out for her hand. “Come on.”
Liz took his hand and felt the wave of electricity shoot between them at the touch. Max had felt it too and their eyes locked for a moment.
“Let me help you down these rocks, the footing can be tricky.” Max said helping her and breaking their silence.
“Thanks.” Liz said as she followed him slowly down the rocky trail that led to the quietest part of the beach.
Once they reached the sand Liz sat down and took in the beautiful scenery, though most of the beautiful scenery she was taking in was Max. First she watched him run in and test the water, giving her a thumbs up at the temperature, and then he was off to rent their snorkel gear and towels. She watched him walk across the beach without his shirt on, his hair ruffled slightly by the breeze and slightly damp from the water he had just been in. His black swim trunks clung to his body in the sexiest way. Liz sighed as she watched him and wondered if she had a chance with him at all. She could have sworn she had sensed a vibe from him at dinner the night before, and just now on the trail. She dismissed the thought and returned her attention to the Bay.
The beach was crowded with tourists. Mostly there were couples, but there were plenty of families there as well. She spotted a lime green bikini out of the corner of her eye and put her sunglasses on and squinted to get a better look. She laughed just as Max was approaching.
“Ok, I got our masks, fins, and snorkels. I also picked up one of those….what’s so funny?” Max asked seeing Liz’s amused expression.
“Look.” Liz said pointing to the girl in the green bikini.
Max followed her finger and his eyes finally rested on what had Liz laughing. “Is that…Isabel and Alex?” he asked smiling.
Liz nodded. “I knew she had a thing for him. I wonder what their doing here?” she asked.
“I don’t know. Should we go and say hi?” Max asked.
“Nah.” Liz said. “Not yet anyway, let’s let them have a little more time alone together.” She said and Max nodded. “Anyway you were saying?”
“Oh right.” Max said remembering he had cut off his sentence when he returned moments before. “I was just going to tell you that I picked up one of those little disposable underwater cameras, and some food to feed the fish.”
“Sounds great.” Liz said. “So I guess we should head out there huh?” she said nervously.
“What’s wrong?” Max asked seeing her hesitation.
“Nothing..I…Max, is there anything out there that could….you know…eat us?” Liz stammered.
“Nah. It’s a Bay, so you don’t have to worry about Great Whites or anything. We’ll probably see some little Sting Ray’s or Tiger Sharks, but they won’t bother us, they stay on the bottom.” Max said reassuring her. “This place is a famous snorkeling spot and I don’t think anyone has ever been eaten here. Besides, I’ll be with you the whole time. I promise, I won’t let anything happen to you Liz.”
Liz nodded and smiled at his words. There it was, that feeling again. She could swear he was giving her signals, but since she had never been the first one to put the moves on a guy, she wasn’t going to start now. If Max liked her, then Max could tell her. “Ok then if you say it’s ok then I trust you.” She smiled and took off her white shorts and her blue tank top revealing a yellow bikini.
Max stared at Liz as she quickly threw her stuff down on to her towel and bent over to pick up her mask and snorkel. She was so beautiful he could hardly even believe it. He caught himself staring, luckily before she noticed. “You know, there are tons of great places to hang out at night in this town. Maybe if you’re not too tired later, and we have fun today, you might want to go out tonight and have some fun before the shoot starts?” Max asked, slightly embarrassed by his rambling tone.
Liz had caught him staring at her when she was bending over and definitely knew he liked what he was seeing. His eyes had grown huge at the sight of her in her bathing suit. Now he was asking her out for that night. She smiled to herself as then took on a serious expression. “Maybe.” She said.
“Okay. Yeah, maybe.” Max said sounding disappointed. “Well let’s go.” He said, walking down the beach.
Liz followed Max to the shoreline. She knew she would be accepting his invitation to go out later. Why was she playing these games? She had waited all of high school for Max Evans to ask her out, and now he just did and she said maybe? What was wrong with her? “Umm Max?” Liz asked as he turned around and flashed her with his amazing amber eyes.
“Yeah?” Max asked.
“I’d love to go out tonight. I think it would be really fun.” Liz said nodding her head and smiling.
“Great.” Max said relived. “That is assuming we don’t get eaten here today.” He flashed her a brilliant grin and then turned around and dove into the crystal clear water.
Liz followed behind him and a short while later they were exploring all of the reefs the Bay had to offer. They saw many different varieties of fish and coral, as well as a few Sting Rays like Max had said they would. They took a break for a boxed lunch and enjoyed each other’s company as they ate. Max told Liz about his many adventures photographing nature all over the world, and Liz told him about her days at college and modeling in Europe. They applied more sunscreen on each other and relaxed on their towels, talking like best friends.
As the afternoon wore on they became more open with each other and by the time they returned to the water for another round of snorkeling, their general shyness had dissipated and they found they could be themselves comfortably. Liz wasn’t surprised that her feelings for Max hadn’t disappeared over the years, and Max was thrilled beyond belief that he was there with the love of his life, he could hardly wait for that night.
As the day was winding down Max and Liz returned the snorkeling equipment
and made preparations for tonight.
"Hey, Liz, do you mind if we just stay here. I mean instead of going
back to the hotel and then making a trip back for dinner we can take in a few
more sites and then just go to dinner."
"I'd say yeah but I feel so icky and need a shower and I need to wash the
sea water from my hair."
"There's a motel near by we can rent a room."
"You mean together? What kind of girl do you take me for Max Evans?"
Liz said giving Max a mock glare.
"Oh, Liz, no. I didn't mean…."
Liz burst out laughing at the look on Max's face.
"I'm just teasing Max I know what you mean. I think it's the perfect
idea. Since we saw Alex and Isabel maybe we should invite them as well?"
Max's face fell he just wanted some alone time with Liz.
"I just wanted it to be us." He mumbled to himself.
"What was that, Max?"
"No you said something what was it."
Max became increasingly interested in the circles he was making with his
foot in the sand. But Liz wasn't about to give up. She had heard what Max
said but she wanted to make sure she heard right.
"Please, Max, tell me what you said."
Max took a deep breath and repeated what he said.
"I said that I just wanted it to be us since we've been enjoying our day
so much together and alone."
"Oh, ok, that's fine with me. It's just the two of us."
They smiled at each other and finished picking up the rest of their
stuff. They made a few stops before going to the motel. They only had the
clothes they were wearing so they had to make a stop to buy some. Max bought
a pair of beige slacks and a white shirt. Liz bought a blue sundress with
blue sandals. Of course Liz needed a few accessories to complete her ensemble
so she bought a coral necklace for the sun dress she had bought to spend the
rest of the day and night in. They then made their way over to a motel not
that far from the beach and got a room.
"Liz, you can go ahead and use the shower first."
"Thanks, Max. I shouldn't take that long."
Liz walked into the bathroom and closed the door behind her. Max turned
and started to lay his clothes on the bed. As he was doing this he heard a
slight click and a creak. He turned around to see what made the noise. His
eyes landed on the bathroom door. It was now slightly open. Apparently Liz
hadn't shut it properly and it opened up. He walked over to the door to
close it, not wanting her to be embarrassed or think he was trying to go into
the bathroom while she was in there. A movement caught his eye. Liz was
standing in front of the bathroom mirror getting undressed. All he could see
was her naked back from his vantage point but that was enough to get him
aroused. Her skin looked so smooth and soft to his eyes. As Liz was about
to step into the shower he stepped back from the door so she wouldn't see
him. He waited a minute then peeked in again to make sure she was in the
shower. After he was sure he quietly closed the door and went to sit on the
bed. He released the deep breath he didn't know he was holding. He'd seen
her practically naked all day with the little bikini she was wearing but to
see the naked flesh uninterrupted without any fabric was a little too much
for Max. He wanted to feel it under his hand and stroke her to the heights
of pleasure. Max was so lost in his thoughts that he didn't hear the shower
stop or Liz step into the room.
"Max are you alright? I've been calling you but you seemed spaced out."
"Uh, yeah, I'm fine."
"Well, I'm done the bathroom is all yours."
"Uh, thanks I'll be out in a minute."
Max grabbed his clothes and placed them strategically in front of him.
He walked quickly to the bathroom and closed the door, making sure it would
remain closed. He took an ice cold shower and got dressed. When he stepped
out of the bathroom Liz was waiting for him all ready to go out.
"Liz, you look beautiful."
She smiled and blushed at the compliment.
"Thanks, Max. You don't look so bad yourself. Can you do me a favor and
help me with my necklace? I can't seem to get the lock on."
"Sure turn around."
Max walked up behind Liz and grabbed the necklace from her, placing it
around her neck. As he fastened the necklace he breathed in the scent from
her hair. The peach fragrance was exquisite.
"Got it Max?"
With her question she snapped him out of his reverie.
"Yeah, you're all set."
Liz turned around to look at Max and found her face mere inches away from
his. Their eyes locked on one another. Their breathing became raspy.
Neither one could or wanted to look away and they didn't want to step away
from each other. Amber eyes stared into chocolaty brown. Their faces
started to lean in towards each other. Their lips inching closer and closer
to one another. The air all around them was filled with sexual tension. They
closed their eyes with their lips a breath away from each other.
Knock, knock, knock.
"Liz are you in there?" Isabel shouted though the motel door.
Part 10- (Carrie-Jenn is on vacation!)
“Umm yeah.” Liz called out, turning away from Max and clearing her throat. She walked over to the door and opened it, coming face to face with Isabel.
“Hi!” Isabel said with a big smile. “I thought I saw you two checking in at the front desk! What are you doing here?”
“Nothing, we were over at the beach and decided to go to dinner. We thought it would be easier to get changed here before heading out.” Liz explained.
“You guys were at the beach?” Isabel asked. “Alex and I were too. We didn’t even see you guys. Did you see us?”
“No.” Liz lied. She tried to think of the most polite way to get rid of Isabel but she couldn’t think of anything right at the moment. “We must have been at opposite ends of the beach.”
“Probably.” Isabel smiled. “Well Alex and I are going to go to this fabulous little seafood place, and I thought I would come and see if you two were interested in coming with us.”
Liz turned around to see what Max had to say but he was gone. She heard the water running and realized he must have snuck into the bathroom when she answered the door. She thought about Isabel’s invitation, and she didn’t want to seem rude but she knew Max wanted to be alone with her and she wanted the same thing. “Thanks Isabel, but we already have reservations somewhere. I appreciate it though.”
“No problem.” Isabel smiled. “So how’s it going anyway?” she whispered when she noticed Max was no longer standing there.
“Fine.” Liz smiled. “We’re having a great time. How about you and Alex?”
“Great.” Isabel smiled and stared off with a dreamy expression. “He’s so sweet and handsome. I better be careful or I might just end up in love with the guy.”
Liz laughed. “You? In love? Right!” Liz said with an amused tone. The entire time she had known Isabel, she had never once seen her in anything resembling a serious relationship.
“You never know!” Isabel said, glaring at Liz and then laughing. “What about you and Max? Any of those old feelings still around?”
“Maybe.” Liz said as she looked at the ground. “Hey I wanted to ask you something.” Liz whispered.
“What?” Isabel asked quietly.
“Well, when we were in high school, and you all used to hang out at The Crashdown, did Max ever mention to you that he liked me or anything?” Liz asked, slightly embarrassed.
“No, never to me anyway.” Isabel shook her head. “Of course I never asked him. I didn’t even really know you until college Liz. Why?”
“I don’t know.” Liz said feeling discouraged. “It’s just that, all day today I’ve been getting these signals like he likes me. Before you knocked, we almost kissed!”
“Wow! Really?” Isabel asked. “Sorry I interrupted!”
“It’s okay. It’s just weird for me to be here with him that’s all. I mean I had such a huge crush on him in high school. When he used to come visit you at college I used to just imagine being alone with him, hoping he had feelings for me. Now we’re here, and it’s almost like he does. It’s weird.” Liz said, realizing she was rambling. “Sorry, I know I’m being stupid.”
“I don’t think you’re being stupid.” Isabel shook her head. “Max was so dammed shy in high school Liz, even if he was in love with you he would have never done anything about it back then. As for you, well didn’t you finally ask a guy out last year for the first time?”
“What’s your point?” Liz asked.
“That you were just as shy as him.” Isabel said. “Maybe now that you’re both all grown up something can happen between you two. Just play it by ear and have fun.”
“Ok.” Liz said nodding. She heard the water turn off in the bathroom. “You better go, he’ll be out in a minute.”
Isabel nodded. “Have fun tonight!” she said as she turned around and waved behind her head.
“You too!” Liz laughed as she shut the door. She turned back around and saw the bathroom door was cracked open slightly. “Max, are you ready to go?” she called out.
“Yeah.” Max said coming out of the bathroom. “I just needed to run a comb through my hair really quick before it dried all weird.” He said smiling. “What did Izzy want?”
“She wanted to invite us to dinner with her and Alex.” Liz said as she put all of her things back into her bag.
“Oh.” Max said quietly. “What did you tell her?”
“I told her no.” Liz said as she turned to Max with a smile. “You said you wanted it to just be us right?”
“Yeah, but if you wanted to go with them it would have been fine.” Max said looking at her and then at his feet.
Liz walked over to him and tipped his chin up so he was forced to look into her eyes. “No Max. I want it to just be us too.” She whispered as she leaned in and kissed him gently on the cheek. “Come on, let’s go have a wonderful evening.” She said as she turned back around and picked up her bag, heading out the door of the motel room.
Max stood there for at least thirty seconds rooted to the spot before he followed her, hoping that the evening would be as wonderful as their day together had been.
Part 11: by Jenn :b
Liz stops in front of the elevator waiting for Max to catch up. He is a few steps behind her since he stopped in the room after she kissed his cheek. Just thinking about that innocent little kiss makes Liz's skin glow and a smile to spread across her face. Who is she trying to kid, just thinking about Max makes her glow and smile.
Max stops next to Liz as he pushes the down button for the elevator. He glances over at her and smiles. She returns his smile and shyly tucks her hair behind her ear.
His heart melts. She is so beautiful and the fact that she is a little shy around him makes me feel much better for being shy around her. He vowed to himself right then and there that he was going to make sure something comes out of this trip to Hawaii. He was not going to be the shy Max Evans that he was in high school. This time he was going to ask Liz out and pray that she says yes.
'If today is any indication then I don't think she'd say no, but I've got to bide my time wisely. I can't just jump into this. I need to make her realize that I like her for who she is, not just that she's a gorgeous model,' he thought to himself.
The elevator doors opened jogging Max from his thoughts. He shook his head slightly and extended his hand towards the door. Liz stepped onto the elevator followed closely by Max and they rode in a comfortable silence down to the lobby.
"I hope that Isabel and Alex are already gone," Liz said. "I feel a little guilty about saying no to her invitation but I really wanted this to just be the two of us tonight."
"I sort of feel guilty too. I mean I haven't seen my sister in years and I refuse to go out to dinner with her, but the only thing that keeps my guilt from overpowering me is that we'll be here for a few weeks and I'll be able to go out with her any time. I really wanted to spend this time with you and catch up on the things that have been going on in your life since high school," Max told her.
"I know, I feel the same way. I mean you haven't seen Michael in years either, and for crying out loud you didn't even know he was my manager. The two of you have lots to catch up on too," Liz said.
"Yeah, but for now I just want the fun we had this afternoon to carry over to this evening and for us to enjoy a nice dinner," Max said.
The doors opened and Max placed his hand on the small of Liz's back leading her out the doors. They didn't see Alex or Isabel in the lobby and they both breathed a sigh of relief.
Max lead the way out of the hotel and hailed a cab. He held the door open for Liz and got in after her. He leaned forward to give the cabbie the directions.
"1857 South King Street, please," Max said.
"No problem sir," the cabbie replied driving off.
"Where are we going Max?" Liz asked.
"We are going to Alan Wong's Restaurant," Max replied facing her.
"Oh," she replied.
"It's supposed to be one of the best around," he told her.
They road in silence for the rest of the trip, but it was a comfortable silence. The cab pulled up in front of the restaurant and Max paid the driver before getting out. He held the door open for Liz and offered her his hand to get out of the cab. They walked in through the doors and Liz gasped.
"Max, oh my goodness this is beautiful," she said in awe.
"I know. I've never actually been here but I've heard that it's one of the nicest here, and I only wanted the best for you," he confessed blushing.
The place was well lit and the center pieces were beautiful. Liz couldn't believe her eyes.
"Max, this place has to cost a fortune," she said looking around at everything.
"Money is no option. Don't you worry about that," he confessed. "I just wanted to take you someplace nice that I was certain you would like."
"Max," she said blushing. "You are going to spoil me."
"That's the idea," he said walking up to the matre de.
He gave the man his name. "Ah Mr. Evans yes your table is ready. Right this way," the man said.
They followed the host to their table and took their seats. He handed them the menus and told them that their waiter will be with them shortly.
Liz opened her menu and looked everything over. "Max, these dinners are really expensive," she whispered.
"Liz, don't look at the prices just look at the food and pick out whatever sounds good. I told you money is not an option," he whispered back.
"You're positive?" she asked him
"Yes, positive. Order anything you want," he assured her.
Their waiter walked over to the table to take their orders. Max gestured to Liz to go first. "Ladies first," he said.
She smiled at him and turned towards the waiter. "I'll have the Thai Butter Poached Lobster, with Capellini Noodles, Tomato Concasse and Heart of Palm," Liz said.
"Excellent choice," the waiter said complementing her dinner. "And you sir."
"I'll have the Surf~N~Turf. The Grilled Beef Tenderloin I would like cooked medium well please," Max said.
"Very good sir," the waiter said. "And to drink?"
"Some red wine please," Max told him.
"Very good sir. I'll bring the wine in just a few minutes," the waiter said walking away.
"What does the surf~n~turf come with?" Liz asked Max.
"It's a piece of grilled beef tenderloin with crab stuffed shrimp, baby vegetables, and black pepper jus," Max told her.
"That sounds pretty good. Would you mind if I tried some?" she asked him.
"No not at all," he assured her.
The waiter came back with the wine and poured them each a glass and then left them alone until their dinner was ready. They made small talk, pretty much just talking about the shoot and what they both would like to see come from this shoot. Professionally speaking. They both agreed that they wanted something different then the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit shoots. They wanted the shots to be more fun and action filled, not just models standing around looking pretty.
Max told her about how he wanted to get a picture of some models snorkeling in the bay and having fun in the ocean, not just sitting on the beach. He wanted some shots of them actually in the water. Of course those shots would have to be in colored bathing suits, the white ones wouldn't do for those types of shots. Liz agreed with him completely.
They ate in virtual silence when their food came and each took a little bit of each other's dinners. Max thought the lobster was prepared very well. It was tender and juicy very nice, while Liz loved the crab filled shrimp and the beef was beyond tender. It practically melted in her mouth. They definitely understood why this restaurant was named one of the best.
Max scooted his chair closer to Liz's to ask her if she wanted desert and if so what one she wanted. They were looking at the menu trying to decide which one to get.
Liz leaned closer to Max to point one out. "Max! Doesn't this just sound delightful?" she asked pointing to the desert.
"Banana Lumpia Split. A trio of housemade Ice Cream sitting on a Banana Lumpia with pinapple, raspberry, and chocolate sauces, whipped cream and macadamia nuts," he read. "Yeah it sounds really good. Would you like to split one," he added turning his head towards her.
Their faces were mere inches apart and he took and involuntary gulp trying to steady his rapidly beating heart. Liz unconsciously licked her lips and broke eye contact to glance at Max's lips. His mouth and lips all of a sudden seemed parched so he licked his lips too trying to moisten them up. Liz let out a small groan and looked back into Max's eyes. The amount of passion and desire she saw in his eyes almost knocked her off the chair she was sitting on. She never thought of herself as desirable, even though she has been in hundreds of magazines and men all over the world think she is, she just could never believe it, but seeing the desire in Max's eyes finally made her realize how desirable she is.
He moved closer to her closing the gap between their lips. He had been dreaming of this moment all day, the moment when their lips finally meet for that sweet kiss. Hell he's been waiting since high school for this moment forget about today. The moment was upon them and it seemed that nothing was going to break the moment.
Liz was beyond excited. She had been waiting for this moment since as long as she could remember. Freshman year of high school, man that was a long time, but that's how long she has been waiting for Max to kiss her and now it was going to happen. The anticipation was almost too much to bear but she could hold out a little longer if it meant that she'd finally get to feel Max's lips upon hers. Her stomach knotted up as she felt his breath on her lips. Her pulse raced and her heart began to pound in her chest, so loudly she was afraid everyone in the restaurant could hear it, but at the moment it didn't matter. Max's lips were millimeters away from hers and that was all that mattered.
Just as he was about to touch his lips to hers an annoying voice broke through his passion induced haze and broke the spell. Both he and Liz groaned out in frustration.
"Max is that you?" Kate called.
"Damn, I thought I saw the last of her months ago," he mumbled. "Hi Kate."
"Hello Max. Who's your little friend?" Kate asked snidely.
"This is Liz a friend of mine, and one of the model's I'm working with. It appears that she and my sister are very good friends. Liz this is Kate, she's a model for SI," he said.
"Oh, I see," Liz replied placing her hand on Max's arm in a possessive manner to warn Kate to back off.
Kate looked at Liz's arm and rose a questioning eyebrow but didn't comment. "It's nice to meet you Liz," Kate said. "Well, my date and I just got here. Oh by the way this is Kyle Valenti, I believe he's working on your shoot too," Kate added.
"Kyle Valenti, oh yeah I remember seeing the name on my sheet. Hi Kyle nice to meet you," Max said extending his hand.
"Likewise," Kyle said shaking Max's hand, but his eyes were on Liz. "You must be Liz Parker. I've seen a lot of your work and may I just say that you are far more beautiful in person then in the magazines," he said.
"Thank you," Liz said politely. Max sat back down and took Liz's hand into his own and smiled while gently squeezing her hand. She smiled back letting him know that the gesture was more then welcomed. Kyle was giving her the creeps the way he was looking at her and Max's gentle way with her was a blessing.
"I'm sorry to cut this short but we were just about to order desert so if you'll excuse us," Max said trying not to sound too rude.
"Oh by all means. I'll see the two of you around," Kyle said.
"Bye Max," Kate called walking to her table totally disregarding Liz.
"Do you want to get out of here?" Max asked. "We can get desert somewhere else."
"No, I'm fine, I really want to try that Banana Lumpia Split," Liz told him.
