Albuquerque, New Mexico Airport
November 2011

Liz Parker approached the baggage claim in the Albuquerque, New Mexico airport with great hesitation.

She glanced back at the doors she just came through when she exited her plane. She wanted to run and go back aboard the plane and return to her home in Boston.

She sighed heavily and turned back around and watched as her suitcase made its way towards her.

She rubbed a hand over her face and grabbed the suitcase just before it passed her.

She wanted to go back home.

Stop acting like a child. She told herself. She was twenty-seven years old for God’s sake, but here she was wishing she could go back home and crawl into bed and never leave it again.

She trudged through the airport struggling with her heavy suitcase and her purse that kept slipping off her shoulder.

When she got outside and stood waiting for a cab, dark clouds appeared over the airport.

“That’s just great.” She mumbled looking down at her long black coat and suede skirt. No doubt in her mind that the moment she stepped out from under the roof that was now covering her, it would start to rain and her skirt would be ruined.

She placed her suitcase down in front of her and pulled her jacket over her black dress shirt.

All in black. Even her stylish boots were black.

Appropriate enough for the occasion. She thought and sighed again, her brown eyes rolling dramatically.

She ran a hand through her long brown hair when she saw a cab pull up.

She opened the door and threw her suitcase in the back seat, not bothering to put in the trunk and climbed in next to it.

“Where to?” The cab driver asked her with a polite smile.

“Roswell Memorial Hospital.” She told him curtly not in the mood to make small talk.

She did her seat belt and leaned back into the seat.

She couldn’t believe that she was actually back here. When she left Roswell nine years ago, she swore that she would never return.

But, here she was. On her way to see all of them.

Almost as if reading her mind her cell phone rang.

She reached in her jacket and pulled the phone out and answered.

“Liz?” She heard Isabel Evan’s voice on the other end of the line.

“Hey Isabel.” She sighed into the phone.

“Where are you?” Isabel asked her.

Liz glanced out the window and watched the dry desert pass by.

“I’m in the cab. I should be there soon.” She told Isabel while leaning back into the seat.

“Okay, good….Liz, I’m really glad that you decided to come.” Isabel said softly.

“Well, at least someone is.” Liz muttered and Isabel was silent for a moment.

“Okay Liz, I guess that I’ll see you when you get here.” Isabel told her.

“Sounds like a plan.” Liz said with her eyes closed.

“Okay, bye.” Isabel said awkwardly.

“Wait…Isabel?” Liz said opening her eyes quickly.

“Yeah?” Isabel said eagerly.

“Is Max there?”

Isabel paused for a moment. “No, he’s not here yet. Only Tess and I are here.”

“Good.” Liz said loudly.

“He’s coming though…later on.” Isabel told her hesitantly.

“Well…I’m not staying for long, so I’ll be gone before he gets there.” Liz told her. “I’ll see you later.”

She hung up the phone without waiting for a reply. She threw the phone back into her jacket and smiled with relief.
Tess and Isabel were the only one’s there. That was good news to Liz; she didn’t want to deal with anyone else.

She didn’t want to see Max or Alex or Kyle or Michael. She couldn’t even remember the last time she had seen all of them.

Well, she could…she just didn’t want to.

The last time she saw Isabel, Tess, Kyle and Alex was at the airport when she left Roswell more than nine years.

She had seen Michael the day before at the police station when he had been arrested.

She had seen Max the day she left; she went to his house after visiting Maria in the hospital.

And the last time she had saw Maria was at the hospital.

Liz laughed softly at the irony. The last time she had seen Maria was when she had been in the hospital and the first time she would be seeing her in more than nine years, Maria was once again in the hospital.

“Something funny?” The cab driver asked trying to make conversation.

“No, in fact it’s not funny at all.” She said and watched as the cab driver opened his mouth to say something but she cut him off. “I’m actually on my way to visit my friend who is in the hospital dying of cancer.”

“Oh!...” The cab driver said glancing at her in the review mirror. “I’m sorry.”

“Me too.” She said softly and closed her eyes.

She didn’t want to come off as rude, but she was not in the mood to talk.

Her thought’s turned to Maria.

A little over two years before, Liz’s parents had called her to tell her that Maria had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

They had operated immediately and she seemed as if she was going to be fine.

Then a year ago, her parents had called her again to tell her that Maria had been having headaches lately and she went to the hospital where she was told she had brain cancer.

They had operated again, but it had spread too much for them to get rid of.

So she had been on chemo therapy for the past nine months, but last week she had a seizure and the doctor’s said that she took at turn for the worst and would be dead within two weeks.

Her parent’s, again, delivered the news because Liz didn’t keep in contact with any of them.

So, Liz had called Isabel to see how bad it really was. Isabel had cried and told her that it was very bad and Maria really wanted to see her.

So after a long deliberation, Liz had booked a flight to Roswell and here she was.

She opened her eyes and noticed the cab pulling up in front of the hospital.

She shook her head and pulled out her wallet.

The cab stopped and the man told her the total. She handed him the money and grabbed her suitcase and purse and opened the door.

“Miss?” The cab driver called as she had one foot out of the door.

“Yeah?” She asked turning back to look at him.

“My family and I will be sure to say a prayer for you friend tonight.” He told her softly.

“Thank you.” Liz choked out and jumped out of the cab. She slammed the door and watched as he drove away.

She didn’t know why, but what he said bothered her.

She made her way inside of the hospital and went to the elevators.

Isabel had told her that Maria was staying on the fourth floor.

The elevator came and Liz got in alone and placed her suitcase down.

She hesitated before pushing the number four button and felt fear in her stomach as the number lit up, the doors closed and the elevator began to make its way up to the fourth floor.

She took a deep breath and was struck by the irony of how she hated the smell of hospitals.

Laughter escaped her lips nervously. Hell, when she had left Roswell, she left to become a doctor.

And now, here she was a successful writer, who hated the smell of hospitals.

She watched wide-eyed as the elevator stopped on her floor and the doors slide open soundlessly.

The smell was somehow stronger and she could hear the hospital’s noises coming into the elevator as if they were trying to draw her out.

She stood frozen with indecision.

She could let the doors close and let the elevator take her back downstairs where she could call another cab and go back to the airport and back to Boston.

Or she could be a woman and stop acting like a child and face her past.

The doors began to slowly close and she stuck her hand out almost at the last second. The motion detectors forced the door open and she picked up her suitcase and stepped out of the elevator.

There was no going back now.

She stood in the hall for a moment until she spotted a sign directing her to take a left. She walked slowly down the hall watching nurses rush past and patients go by.

She walked through a set of double doors and on the other side, near a payphone was Isabel Evans.

She had her back to Liz, but Liz would recognize her anywhere.

Liz straightened her shoulders and made her way towards her old friend.

Almost as if she knew, Isabel turned around, and looked at Liz.

Liz smiled slightly seeing that Isabel hadn’t really changed at all. She was still tall, blonde and gorgeous. She stood dressed in a black skirt and a red tank top and had a coffee in her hand.

“Liz…” She sighed and began to make her way towards a nervous Liz.

They approached each other and Liz set down her suitcase.

“I didn’t think that you were actually going to come. I though maybe you would change your mind and leave at the last second.” Isabel told her while wrapping her arms around Liz to hug her.

“You didn’t have to worry. That’s ridiculous. Why would I leave?” Liz asked and let out more nervous laughter.

Isabel pulled away, careful not to spill her coffee and looked Liz in the eye.

“You’re right, that is ridiculous.” Isabel while searching Liz’s eyes.

“So…” Liz trailed off uncertainly.

“Oh…umm…Tess just ran to the washroom…Here why don’t we put your suitcase over here.” Isabel offered gesturing to where her jacket was resting on a chair.

“Okay.” Liz said and picked up the suitcase and followed Isabel over to the chair.

“So, how is Maria?” Liz asked her as she took off her jacket and placed it over Isabel’s.

Isabel was quiet for a moment. “She’s…ah…not doing that good actually. Her condition’s worsened since yesterday and the doctor’s don’t look to hopeful.”

“How’s Michael holding up?”

“Well…pretty good, for Michael. I mean, she’s his wife after all. But, I’m worried about him, we’re all really worried about him….He’ll be here later on.”

Liz was going to ask where Isabel’s husband, Alex was when Tess walked into sight.

“Hey Liz.” Tess said coming up to her.

“Hi Tess, how are you?” Liz asked as she was pulled into a hug.

“I’m doing okay…How about you? You look great.” Tess told her as she let go.

“I’m good and thank you. You both haven’t changed a bit…still the same blond bombshells from high school.” Liz told them and they shared a small laugh.

“I just called Kyle. He and Alex are going to come over after work.” Tess told them and turned to Liz. “They are so excited to see you. I mean…it’s been…what?....”

“About nine years.” Liz finished for her.

“Yeah, a long time.” Tess said softly. “Well, I’m glad that you’re here.”

There was a moment of silence.

“And I know that Maria is glad too.” Isabel said throwing her coffee cup into the garbage. “Did you want to go in see her now?”
Liz swallowed the lump that had formed in her throat.

“Yeah.” She said and followed the two women over to second nearest door and they stopped.

“You should go in alone, have a chance to talk. Isabel and I will wait here and you can call us when you’re done and we’ll join you.” Tess said.

“Okay, thanks.” Liz said and took a deep breath and pushed the door open and entered Maria’s room.

Hey guys! Thanks for all the really means a lot.

To answer a few question's...No, there are no aliens and you will have to stick around and find out why Liz left all those years ago...

Here's the next part and I hope you enjoy!!!

Roswell Memorial Hospital
November 2011

Maria DeLuca’s hospital room was a private room and when Liz entered she noticed how nice the room was.

It was quite big and the walls were painted a light pink and there was a large window directly in front of the door. Looking outside you could see the traffic in Roswell going by.

There were four big comfortable chairs placed around the hospital bed and that was where Maria was lying.

Liz walked out from the shadows of the door and let it close softly behind her.

She looked to the bed and was shocked to see how big it was. But as she made her way over to the bed she realized the bed was only that big because Maria was so small.

She was lying in the bed and had her eyes closed. The blankets were pulled up her chest and she had tubes running into her arms and nose.

Liz stopped at the side of the bed and really looked at Maria for the first time in nine years.

She didn’t look well, but she was still the Maria that Liz remembered.

Her face was thin and sunk in around her cheeks and Liz could see the bags under her eyes.

She looked at the rest of Maria and could see how thin her arms and shoulder’s were. She was nothing but skin and bones.

Her chest rose slowly up and down and Liz could hear the rasps coming out of her mouth as she breathed.

Liz felt the muscles in her throat and stomach tighten as she looked at her very best friend in the whole world. Her eye’s filled with tears as she looked at her lying there helpless.

Liz ran a hand through her hair and was about to leave so she didn’t wake her, when Maria opened her eyes.

Liz smiled as Maria looked up at her with tired eyes that had lost the sparkle that Liz remembered from her childhood.

“Liz?” Maria’s voice came out soft and tired.

“Yeah Maria, it’s me.” Liz said softly.

“Oh Liz, I am so glad that you’re here.” Maria told her and Liz watched with remorse as tears slipped down Maria’s cheeks.

Liz crossed her arms nervously trying to hold back her own tears. She would not cry.

“Don’t cry Maria. It’s okay.” Liz told her grinning.

“I’ve missed you.” Maria told her and wiped the tears off her face. She held up her arms weakly towards her long-lost friend.

Liz sat down on the side of the bed and leaned in to hug her. She was surprised at the strength which Maria used to hold on to her.

Liz closed her eyes when she felt Maria begin to tremble.

“I never thought that I would see you again.” Maria sobbed and Liz pulled out of the hug and looked at the crying woman in front of her.

“Well, I’m here. But, if you’re going to cry the whole time, I’m gonna leave.” Liz said softly while letting out a small laugh. She reached over and wiped a tear off Maria’s face.

“Okay, no more crying.” Maria agreed laughing. “So when did you get here?”

Liz settled back on the bed and pulled her hair behind her ear. “My flight landed this morning at ten-forty-five.”

“So, you came straight here?” Maria asked looking at the clock and Liz nodded.

Maria smiled weakly at her. “You look great.”

“So do you.” Liz told her and lightly touched her hair. “Look at your hair; I would’ve thought that with the chemo and everything….”

Liz trailed off with embarrassment but Maria nodded.

“It’s a wig.” Maria said and pulled the wig back a little to reveal her scalp which had only a few patches of hair. “Michael got it for me a few weeks ago. Makes me feel like I’m still somewhat attractive.”

Maria laughed sadly and Liz smiled at her.

“You look beautiful.” Liz told her and took her hand.

“Yeah, well Tess comes everyday and does my make-up.” Maria said and they both laughed knowing about Tess and her make-up.

“She and Kyle finally tied the knot last year.” Maria said.

Liz nodded. “Yeah, my parent’s told me.”

“Did they tell you that you were invited?” Maria asked.

Liz nodded and shifted her gaze.

“We were all really hoping that you would come. You missed all the weddings. Mine and Michael’s, Isabel and Alex’s, Tess and Kyle…”

Liz looked back at Maria. “I know.”

Maria just looked at her for a moment. “So, anyone special in your life?”

Liz smirked and looked away. “Not really. I’m too busy.”

“So you write twenty-four hours a day?” Maria asked joking.

“Hey! Why do you think all my books are best-sellers?” Liz retorted and the girl’s began to laugh.

“So how are you feeling?” Liz asked her.

“Well, I’m feeling pretty good today. Yesterday, I wasn’t feeling so good. But, everyday is different.”

“Yeah, I can imagine.” Liz said.

“Are Isabel and Tess still here?” Maria asked glancing at the door.

“Yeah, they’re waiting outside.”

“Go tell them to come in here. It’s been so long since we’ve all been together in the same room.”

“Yeah, I know.” Liz said letting go of Maria’s hand and made her way to the door.

She opened it and saw Isabel and Tess talking quietly in the waiting room.

Liz waved at them and the two girls got up and grabbed all of their belongings.

“Morning, Sunshine!” Tess called to Maria as she hung up her and Liz’s jacket in the closet.

“Morning.” Maria called back softly.

Isabel hung her jacket up and placed Liz’s suitcase near the door.

Liz shut the door and watched as Tess went over and gave Maria a kiss on her forehead.

“Feeling better than yesterday?” Tess asked and Maria nodded. “Good.”

Liz walked around to the other side of the bed and sat on one of the chairs.

Tess sat in the chair beside Liz at the foot of the bed.

And after Isabel quickly kissed Maria on the cheek, she sat on the other side of the bed in the chair across from Liz.

“Feels like old times, doesn’t it?” Isabel said smiling.

“Yeah, it does.” Tess said with a grin to match Maria’s.

Liz shifted in her seat uncomfortably.

“Oh! Before I forget, I called Kyle at work and he told me that he was talking to his dad and he told him that your mom was baking you a pie, so she said to save your appetite.”

Maria giggled and Liz smiled at the sound of it. “I haven’t had much of an appetite lately, but it doesn’t matter because Michael and the kids always eat it anyway.”

Liz watched the three of them laugh with somewhat jealousy.

“How are the kids?” Liz asked curious.

“They’re good. Cory just turned five and Tara’s seven. But, they still have a hard time coming in here and seeing me.” Maria said sadly. “They don’t understand.”

“Yeah, it must be hard for a child to see their mom in the hospital.” Liz said quietly wishing that she never asked. She turned to Tess.

“So how is Tristan?” Liz asked about Tess and Kyle’s son.

“He’s good. He won his science fair award last week. God knows where he got those brains.” Tess said making them all laugh. “I mean his father’s a jock at heart and never did very good in school and all I’m good at is cosmetology.”

“Yeah, but Kyle’s in the computer business with Alex isn’t he?” Liz asked smiling.

“Well, yeah…Who would have thought that computer’s would have been Kyle Valenti’s expertise? We all thought he was a dumb ass!” Tess said and they all laughed again.

Liz sat back in her chair feeling more at ease. She looked to Isabel. “Still no kids for the Whitman’s?”

Isabel shook her head smiling. “Not yet at least.”

“Yeah me either.” Liz told them.

“You guys are missing out.” Maria told them and Tess nodded her head.

“Did Jim say when he and my mom were coming?” Maria asked.

“They said later on tonight.” Tess informed her.

“I still can’t believe that they got married.” Liz said grinning.

“Neither can I.” Maria said shaking her head. “I thought it was like the worst thing in the entire world. Kyle Valenti was going to become my brother.”

“He’s not that bad!” Tess protested.

“He was then.” Isabel said laughing.

“I’d have to agree. The guy liked to terrorize people.” Liz put in.

“Well that’s before he met me and I turned him into the wonderful man he is today.” Tess said proudly.

Isabel and Maria burst out laughing.

Tess groaned. “Can’t you make me feel good just once?”

“Nope.” Maria said laughing.

“You guys suck.” Tess pouted joking.

“WHO TOLD YOU?” Liz yelled suddenly using a phrase they all used to use back in high school.

“Oh my God! I can’t believe you remember that!” Maria exclaimed and all the girl’s began laughing.

Liz watched as Maria threw her head back laughing and then began to cough severely.

“Are you okay?” Liz asked alarmed getting up.

Maria nodded her head as she stopped coughing and tried to catch her breath.

“I’m fine.” She said. “Sit down. This is the best medicine that I could have. All of you here.”

Liz looked at her concerned for a moment and looked back to Tess and Isabel. Neither of them seemed too concerned. But Liz realized it was probably because they were used to it. They were here everyday. Liz glanced at Maria again and then finally sat back down.

“Oh yeah! I brought this new line of make-up from the salon.” Tess told Maria. “Maybe we could try it out later.”

Liz giggled at the excitement in Tess’ voice.

“Same old Tess. Crazy about her make-up.” Liz said and they nodded while Tess pretended to look shocked.

“You make me sound so superficial.” Tess exclaimed.

“You are.” Isabel pointed out.

“You’re point?” Tess pressed and they all began to laugh again.

“Do you remember the day of graduation? Tess brought this big ass case that held all of her make-up in it?” Maria asked laughing again.

“Yeah and it was so heavy she made Kyle carry it and then when he found out what was inside, he wouldn’t touch it.” Isabel said and they all laughed at the memory.

“I HAD to bring all that make-up it was the most important day of our lives. We had to look good.” Tess protested.

“Yeah, but do you remember how that one picture turned out?” Maria said laughing.

They all groaned thinking of the picture that Maria’s mom had taken of them after the graduation ceremony.

“That wasn’t all my fault.” Tess said.

“It was too funny.” Isabel remembered laughing.

But Liz sat silent. She remembered the picture. It had been her favorite picture of all of them and when she had unpacked all her boxes in Boston at the end of the summer, she hadn’t been able to find it.

She remembered how upset she had been. It had been the last picture that they had all taken together that summer. The picture was a memory of how happy they had all been, before everything that happened actually did happen.

She turned her head and looked out the window knowing that now; they were going to start talking about the picture and talking about that day.

And that was why Liz didn’t want to come back to Roswell. She didn’t want to remember. For all these years she had repressed the memories of that summer and when she had boarded the plane that morning she knew that all the memories would come back.

“Liz?” Isabel asked and Liz flinched and turned to face them.

“Do you remember that picture?” Maria asked innocently.

Liz hesitated. This was it. Once they talked about this, they would all take a trip down memory-lane and she didn’t want to.

But, there was no way to avoid. She knew that when she got off that elevator that all of this was going to happen.

There was no turning back.

“Yeah…I remember.” Liz said softly.

Hey Guys!!!!!

First of all, I would like to thank all of you for the wonderful feedback. I really really appreciate it! So THANK YOU!!!!!!!

I would also like to give some individual responses and try to clear a few things up...

Gamma: I know how much you hate angst, so I am really really glad that you are reading this. Unfortunately I cannot make any promises for a happy ending for everyone. *don't get me wrong* Maria is like my favourite character, but I need her to be the one sick, or the story would not be what it is. (You'll know what I mean by the end.)

A Rose Is True Blue: I am SO glad that you joined us. And that is SO not fair to threaten me with "Goonies Never Say Die" LOL!!!!!!

Okay, so thank you all of YOU!!!!

Now, on to a few questions. The guys will arrive at the hospital later on in the story, but in the meantime, they will be present in the flashbacks.

And the reason the Liz left will not be revealed until later on...I know, I know...but if I told you know, it would ruin the story.

Okay, so here is the next part. Now this is a flashback scene, so everyone will be there.

Hope you enjoy and please let me know what you think!!!

West Roswell High ~Graduation Day~
June 2002

Liz Parker walked through the crowd of graduates looking for her friends. Everyone was out on the school’s back lawn and after making her valedictorian speech, she lost sight of all of her friends. And her parent’s had just wondered away to go and talk to some of her teachers.

She pushed through her fellow graduates and their families and all her teacher’s. Finally she spotted Tess standing alone looking around.

“Tess!” Liz shouted waving her hands frantically and lost sight of her for a moment when someone walked in front of her.

Liz pushed past the person and approached Tess who had a look of annoyance on her face.

“Where the hell is Kyle? I told him to put all my make-up in Maria’s car and now I can’t find him anywhere. I have to re-apply my eye liner. It looks horrible doesn’t it?” Tess asked all in one breath.

“You look fine.” Liz said laughing.

“Oh Liz, you’re one of my friend’s it’s your job to tell me that I look good.” Tess sighed as if talking to a child.

“But, you always tell me when I look like shit.” Liz pointed out shifting uncomfortably under her huge red graduation gown.

“Well, see that’s where we’re different. I’m you friend Liz, but I’m not a liar.” Tess said smiling as if she just said the most intellectual thing in the entire world.

“You’re nuts.” Liz told her.

“Same thing.” Tess said with a wave of her hand. “Now, where is that dumb jock?”

“I haven’t seen him. I can’t find anyone.” Liz told her standing on the tip of her toes trying to get a better look around.

“Well, let’s go. This heat is melting my face.” Tess said linking her arm with Liz and they pushed through the crowd.

They walked for a moment, body chucking people when necessary when Liz spotted Michael standing near the food table.

“Oh look! There’s Michael.” Liz announced to Tess as she pointed to the food tables.

“Figures. That guy never stops eating.” Tess sighed and they jogged across the field towards him.

“Hey Michael! Where is everyone?” Liz asked as she and Tess stopped in front of him.

He shrugged and stuffed half a sandwich in his mouth. “Umm…Izzy and Alex went to go find their parent’s and Maria…”

They waited impatiently as he tried to remember where his girlfriend had gone. “Oh! She went to find you guys.”

“Great!” Liz muttered thinking of how her very best friend, very short best friend, was probably lost in the crowd.

“Where is Kyle?” Tess demanded from Michael as he turned away to load food onto his plate.

“Oh, him and Max just walked away saying something about streaking.” Michael said with his mouth full.

“Great. He take’s my make-up and now he’s somewhere getting naked.” Tess turned to Liz. “Why are our boyfriend’s dill-hole's?”

Liz shook her head thinking of her boyfriend Max. “We’re cursed.”

“Yep. It’s too bad that I’m taken.” Michael said loudly smiling at them.

“Yeah, that’s just a freaking shame.” Tess said snapping her finger’s sarcastically.

“They’re not really going to streak are they?” Liz asked fearing the answer.

“I wouldn’t put it past them. They’ve been planning it since last year.” Michael said stuffing some carrots into his mouth.

“Plus, they’re morons.” Tess sighed.

“That too.” Michael agreed and the three of them walked away from the tables and made their way off to the side where it wasn’t as crowded.

“So why aren’t you streaking?” Liz asked Michael.

“Don’t want to make them jealous.” Michael said matter-of-factly.

“Yeah, well you should be enjoying your body now. The way you eat, you’ll be six hundred pounds this time next year.” Tess said gesturing to the food piled on his plate.

“I’m a growing man.” Michael protested with a hurt look on his face.

“Boy…” Tess corrected.

“Same difference.” Michael said shrugging.

“Hey guys!”

They all turned to see Alex and Isabel approaching.

“Hey.” Liz and Tess said at the same time. Michael just grunted with food in his mouth.

“We just saw Max and Kyle sneaking into the school. What’s up with them?” Alex asked trying to grab a chip off Michael’s plate, only to have his hand slapped away.

“Supposedly, they’re going to go through with their plan to streak.” Liz told them.

“Damn! The last thing I need to see is my brother running across the field naked.” Isabel groaned about Max.

“I can’t believe they didn’t ask me.” Alex said shocked.

“You want to streak?” Isabel asked smiling.

Alex paused and looked down at his wiry frame. “Well…on second thought…”

He trailed off and Isabel patted his back. “I didn’t think so.”

“So where’s Maria?” Alex asked looking around.

“Right there and she doesn’t look to happy.” Michael said backing away as if to run.

They turned to see a very angry Maria speed walking towards them.

“People are so rude! They’re animals.” She said angrily as she approached them. “I mean, I’m not that big, so why do they have to PUSH me out of the way? Am I taking up too much room?”

She paused for a moment to catch her breath and then looked to Liz and Tess.

“Where the hell were you guys?” She demanded.

“Looking for you.” Liz protested but Maria had already spun around to face Michael.

“You’re still eating?!” She exclaimed and he smirked at her and shrugged his shoulders.

“Oh look! There’s your mom.” Alex said pointing to Maria’s mom who was coming towards them.

They all waved and she made her way over.

“Where’s the boyfriend?” Tess asked Maria referring to Amy DeLuca’s boyfriend of three years.

“At work. Thank God.” Maria mumbled as Amy came up to them.

“Awww…Look at all of you! You’re all graduated. I’m so proud of you.” She told them and then turned to Michael. “Weren’t you eating in the car on the way over here?”

Michael nodded stuffing his last sandwich in his mouth. Amy smiled and patted him on the back.

“Well you’re a growing man.” Amy told him and he shot Tess an ‘I-told-you-so’ look.

“Boy.” Tess said.

“What?” Amy asked confused.

“Nothing.” Tess muttered and Michael laughed at her.

“That was a great speech.” Amy told Liz.

“Thank you, Ms. DeLuca.” Liz said blushing.

“Liz, how long have I known you? Call me Amy.” Amy said giving her a stern look.

“Right…sorry.” Liz said catching sight of her parent’s talking to one of her teacher’s.

She waved at all of them and they waved back.

“Ohhh! You’re in trouble.” Michael sang and Maria elbowed him in the stomach.

“Hey! Let me take your picture girls!” Amy said holding up her camera.

“Oh! I haven’t done my make-up yet.” Tess said looking away.

“Oh shut up!” Isabel told her best friend. “You look gorgeous.”

“Fine.” Tess mumbled.

“Okay, come stand over here.” Amy said moving over a little.

The girls stood together and Alex went to stand with Michael.

Liz wrapped her arm around Maria’s shoulder; who was standing on her right. Tess was on her left and Isabel was beside Tess.

The picture would have turned out very nice. All the girl’s looked great in their cap and gown, but the events that took place happened so fast, that the picture became a classic.

As Amy lifted the camera to take the picture, Isabel took off her cap for the picture. Only her was sticking up in different angles. Tess was rubbing her eyelid trying to straighten her eyeliner.

But the worst thing was that Alex and Michael had moved to stand beside the girl’s, still out of view of the camera.

Amy put pressure on her finger to push the button on the camera and she yelled for the girl’s to smile.

But then they all heard yelling from the crowd.

Behind Amy, Max and Kyle were running straight towards them buck naked. They had their hands covering their privates, but there was no doubt that they were naked.

Alex spit out his drink spraying Liz and Maria’s graduation gowns. And in the confusion Amy pushed the button on the camera.

They wouldn’t find out until later how the picture turned out. When it was developed, they saw the horror that had become the picture. Isabel had her mouth open in shock and her hair was standing on end. Tess had her finger pressing on her eye, making it look lop sided and she had a disgusted look on her face. Maria and Liz had wet spots all over their gowns and Liz’s eyes were open so wide she looked as if they were going to pop out of her head. And Maria had a look of horror on her face and her hand was blurry because she had been raising it to cover her eyes.

That was their ‘wonderful’ graduation picture. The only one taken of the four of them; because after Kyle and Max had ran by, no one thought of taking another one.

Maria ended up with her hands over her eye’s and began to claim that she was blinded for the rest of her life.

But the other’s watched Max and Kyle run by screaming. “We are West Roswell High Graduates!”

They ran through the crowd of people yelling at them. Some were cheering, some were swearing, others were horrified but most of them were laughing.

“I can’t believe they did that.” Liz exclaimed as she watched her boyfriend’s bare ass disappear around the side of the school.

“That was awesome!” Michael declared laughing while Maria hit him.

“I’m going to have nightmares.” Maria said dramatically.

“Kyle is SO dead.” Tess threatened with her hands on her hips.

“I just saw my brother naked.” Isabel said in disgust.

Then they all began to talk at once and were interrupted when Isabel’s mom and dad came rushing over.

“Izzy, what was Max thinking?” Her mother cried.

“How am I supposed to know?” Isabel cried back.

“I thought it was pretty funny.” Her father said.

“Oh Phillip. Don’t say that, you’ll only encourage him. Next thing you know, he’ll be a stripper.” Diane said putting a hand to her head.

“That makes pretty good money.” Michael said and was smacked this time by both Maria and Amy.

All of a sudden, the crowd erupted into a mass of booing and cheering. More so cheering.

They all looked over to see Kyle and Max, fully clothed, running over to them.

“Nice show!” Michael said laughing.

“Max! What were you thinking?” Diane asked him in shock.

“I was making a statement.” Max told her grinning ear to ear.

“Honey, you could have made a statement with your clothes on.” Diane told him.

“I know.” Max said simply.

“Okay, well your father and I have to get going. I trust that you won’t be brought home by the police for indecent exposure.” Diane warned.

“I promise.” Max said holding up his hand and putting on a serious face.

“Okay.” Diane said and kissed both Max and Isabel. She called out a good bye to everyone and made her way to the parking lot. Phillip kissed his daughter on the cheek and turned to Max.

“I thought it was funny.” He whispered and patted him on the back.

“PHILLIP!” Diane yelled and Phillip Evans winked and ran to catch up with his wife.

“You are such and idiot! Why would you do that?” Tess yelled and began to hit Kyle.

“It was funny!” Kyle said moving out of the way.

“Well, aren’t you glad that your dad wasn’t here?” Liz asked. “He would have arrested you two.”

“Nah, he would have laughed.” Kyle insisted and began to laugh himself.

“Okay, as much as I’d like to stay and reminisce about the two naked teenage boys I just saw, I have to get going.” Amy said and hugged Maria.

She turned back to all of them. “You know, you guys are very lucky. I never had a best friend for more than a year and you’ve all been together since grade school. And now, you all graduated together, I just think that it’s great.”

They all smiled back at her and she waved and made her way to the parking lot.

“So how about we get out of here before Principal Myer’s finds you guys.” Isabel said taking Alex’s hand.

“Don’t we have to give these back?” Kyle asked pointing to the graduation gown that was in his hand.

“Yeah. Plus, mine has spit all over it.” Maria said glaring at Alex as she tore hers off.

“Me too.” Liz said pulling hers off as well.

“Sorry.” Alex muttered taking his off.

The rest of them took of their gowns and Michael collected them all and laid them on the food table.

“Let’s get out of here.” He said and they all began to make their way to the parking lot.

Max walked up to Liz and grabbed her hand. “I never did tell you that I really liked the final version of your valedictorian speech.”

“Thanks. You don’t think I rambled do you?” She asked nervously as they entered the parking lot behind their friends.

“You always ramble.” He teased and she slapped his arm playfully.

“Okay, who’s going with who?” Max called as he and Liz walked over to his jeep.

“I have my car!” Maria yelled back as she opened the driver’s door to her Jetta.

“Did Kyle put my make-up in there?” Tess yelled remembering why she had been looking for Kyle earlier.

“Yeah, that thing like weighs fifty pounds.” Maria yelled back.

“Shut up!” Tess yelled trying not to laugh.

“Well, I didn’t take my car, so we’ll go with you.” Kyle said approaching Max’s jeep with Tess.

“Of course the naked guys want to be together.” Alex yelled laughing as he jumped in the back of Maria’s Jetta with Isabel.

“We’re meeting at the Crashdown right?” Michael called and jumped in the passenger seat of the Jetta when Liz nodded her head.

“You two don’t have a thing going on now do you?” Tess asked Kyle and Max as she jumped into the back of the jeep.

“WHO TOLD YOU?” Kyle yelled pretending to be upset.

“Oh shut up and get in.” Liz said pushing him out of the way so she could get in the passenger seat.

Max climbed in the driver’s seat and put the keys in the ignition. They watched as Maria pulled out of her spot nearly hitting the car beside her.

“I don’t know how that girl got her license.” Tess said shaking her head.

Max laughed and leaned over to Liz. “So did you like our show?”

She leaned closer to him. “Do you mean my boyfriend running naked for all to see?”

He nodded grinning.

“Yeah, I bet their all jealous because they don’t get to take you home.” She told him and brought her mouth to his.

“AHEM!” Kyle coughed. “Can we get a move on, or are you two going to do it right here.”

“I bet you’d like that.” Liz said grinning back at him after pulling away from Max reluctantly.

“Hell yeah!” Kyle yelled as Max pulled out of the parking.

“You’re an idiot.” Tess said pulling his ear.

“Max, you told your mom that you streaked to make a statement…” Liz trailed off.

“Yeah.” Max said driving towards the Crashdown.

“What statement was that?” Liz asked.

“To prove that I have a nicer ass then Kyle.” Max said seriously.

“That is bullshit!” Kyle yelled appalled and the jeep filled with laughter as the four of them burst out laughing on their way to the Crashdown.

Roswell Memorial Hospital
November, 2011

“I couldn’t believe that they actually did streak.” Isabel said and visibly shuddered as the rest of the girls let out loud laughter.

“I know. I tried so hard to cover my eyes. But, I saw much more than I wanted to.” Maria said quietly from the bed.

“How do you think I feel?” Isabel exclaimed. “Max is my brother.”

“You win.” Maria replied smiling.

Liz smiled sadly. “I wish I still had that picture.”

“What happened to yours?” Tess asked.

“I don’t know. All I know is that when I unpacked my things in Boston, I couldn’t find it.”

“I have mine framed and it’s on the table in my living room.” Maria said grinning.

“No!” Liz exclaimed shocked.

“She does.” Tess insisted sadly shaking her head.

“How could you? We look like idiots.” Liz said shaking her head.

“I like it. It was the last picture we all took together.” Maria insisted.

“Yeah, it was.” Liz admitted and there was an awkward silence.

Fortunately it was interrupted when the phone beside Maria’s bed began to ring.

She struggled for a moment trying to reach it and Liz was tempted to help her, but she stayed in her seat and turned to Isabel when Maria answered the phone.

“So how are your parents?” Liz asked her.

“They moved to Florida two years ago.” Isabel told her. “It’s kind of far, but they really like it there.”

“I always wanted to go to Florida.” Tess sighed and they looked at her with eyebrows raised.

“Fine!” She sighed. “I want to go to Disneyland.”

Liz smirked at her and Tess stuck her tongue out.

“How’s your mom doing Tess?” Liz asked trying to contain the laughter from seeing her friend acting so childish.

“Same old. Same old. She’s got a new boyfriend and he’s a nice guy.”

“That’s good.” Liz said sincerely. She had always liked Mrs. Harding, though she barely ever saw her. Tess father had died when she was three, so Mrs. Harding had had to raise Tess on her own, so she worked a lot.

“So are you working on a new book?” Isabel asked leaning forward in her chair.

Liz sighed with a sad smile on her face.
“Not really. My publisher is shitting bricks because I’m due for a new one soon. I think I’m having writer’s block or something.” She admitted scratching her head absently. “I just can’t think of a good story to tell.”

“You should give a shot at erotica.” Tess advised her and Liz burst out laughing.

“There are always people wanting to read about good sex.” Tess said simply.

“That would be different from what I usually write.” Liz said referring to her novels of love, happiness and family.

“It’s worth a shot.” Tess said grinning. “I could help you.”

“Please!” Isabel exclaimed. “If I hear about one more position that you and Kyle tried from his Kama Sutra book, I’ll puke.”

“You’ve really tried those?” Liz asked grinning and leaning towards Tess.

“Some of them.” Tess replied with a grin to match. “I’ll just say that my Buddha Boy isn’t the only one who is enlightened.”

The three of them began to laugh quietly so they didn’t disturb Maria, who was still on the phone.

“I still can’t believe that you’re not a doctor.” Isabel said looking closely at Liz. “When you left, that’s what you wanted to do.”

Liz sat back in her chair ignoring the pang in her stomach. “I guess it just didn’t appeal to me as much as I thought it did.”

Isabel studied Liz’s face for a moment and Liz could feel the question’s in her eyes.

“Isabel.” Tess interrupted. “You should know how that feel’s. You wanted to be a teacher went you went to college and know you’re an interior decorator.”

“Yeah, I know.” Isabel said breaking her stare on Liz.

“And you’re a good designer.” They all heard Maria say and they looked towards the bed to see that she had gotten off the phone.

“Thank you.” Isabel said smiling proudly.

“She decorated my house.” Maria told Liz. “Michael and I couldn’t agree on anything.”

Liz smiled knowingly.

“Who was on the phone?” Tess asked using a hair tie to pull her hair back.

“Max.” Maria said and looked towards Liz.

There was some silence and Liz felt the butterflies in her stomach take flight. She shifted in her seat and the room seemed to have gotten very hot all of a sudden.

“He just wanted to know if I needed anything before he came over.” Maria said noticing how uncomfortable Liz had become.

“When is he coming?” Liz asked trying to sound casual and trying to hide the panic in her voice.

“Later on. He’s still at work.” Maria said settling down on her pillow. “He asked if you came.”

“Did you tell him that I was here?” Liz asked biting her lower lip.

“What did he say?”

“Nothing.” Maria said softly.

Liz sighed and couldn’t help the sadness that washed over her. She pushed it away quickly and looked out the window. She watched as the cars drove by and people went on about their day. As she did this she tried to think of an excuse to make so that she could leave. She didn’t want to be here when Max arrived.

“Liz, are you okay?” Maria asked but her voice sounded so far away.

Liz slowly turned back to face the three other women.

“Yeah, I’m fine.” She said and put her best fake smile on her face.

“Liz…” Isabel began and Liz knew that this was when they would talk about Max.

She was about to get up and tell them that she had to leave when a nurse stuck her head in the door.

“Hello Ladies.” The elderly nurse said as she walked in the room and made her way over to the bed.

“Hi Betty.” Tess and Isabel said at the same time.
“Hi Betty. How are you?” Maria asked.

“I’m just fine. How are you doing today?” Betty asked Maria as she patted her arm.

“Feeling a lot better then yesterday.” Maria replied smiling.

“Good to hear.” Betty said quickly checking the machines beside Maria’s bed.

When she was done she turned back and looked over to Liz.

“I see that we have a new visitor today.” Betty said smiling warmly at Liz.

“Oh!” Maria exclaimed embarrassed. “Betty, this is my long time friend Liz.”

“Ah! The famous Liz that lives in Boston.” Betty said.

Liz smiled and stood up. She reached over the bed and shook Betty’s hand.

“It’s nice to meet you.” Liz told her and then returned to her chair.

“And it’s finally nice to meet you.” Betty said. “Maria is always talking about you. I was wondering when you would get here.”

Liz felt her heart sink and swallowed the lump in her throat.

“Betty, here…” Tess interrupted. “Is only the best nurse in the hospital.”

“Oh Tess…you embarrass me.” Betty said waving her off with her hand.

“It’s true. She gives us the scoop on all the hot doctor’s.” Tess protested with a glint in her eye.

Betty let out a loud burst of laughter. “And I told you not to tell anyone that. You are all married women.”

“We can still look.” Maria said all of a sudden and the room with laughter from all of them.

“Well…now that my secret is out, I must get going.” Betty said lightly touching Maria’s cheek. “Do you need anything honey?”

Maria shook her head and Betty smiled at her.

She made her way to the door and turned back. “Do the rest of you young ladies need anything?”

Isabel and Liz shook their heads smiling politely.

“Actually.” Tess said turning in her chair. “I would really like Dr. Marris’ phone number.”

“You’re a bad girl.” Betty said as the rest of them laughed. She opened the door and turned back. “If any of you need anything, just give me ring.”

They all thanked her and watched as the door closed behind her.

“So who’s this Dr. Marris?” Liz asked hoping that they wouldn’t resume the conversation they were about to have before Betty came in.

“Only like the hottest guy you will ever lay eyes on.” Tess said grinning.

“Really?” Liz pressed arching her eyebrows.

“Really.” Isabel and Maria said at the same time.

Liz began to laugh and relaxed back in her chair.

“And you will never guess who our favorite doctor is married to…” Tess trailed off rolling her eyes.

“Who?” Liz asked very interested.

“Pam…” Tess trailed off.

“ ‘The Spam’…” Isabel said grinning.

“Troy.” Maria finished.

Liz burst out laughing.

“Pam the Spam? Are you guys serious?” Liz said covering her mouth.

“The one and only.” Maria said grinning.

“I can’t believe that she is still living here.” Liz said shocked, thinking of their old high school rival.

“You should see her.” Isabel said. “Remember how she used to go on and on about moving to Paris and becoming a model?”

Liz nodded with wide eyes.

“Well now…” Tess continued. “She’s a stay at home mom with four kids and let me tell you having kids did not help her figure.”

All the girl’s burst out laughing.

“She was such a bitch.” Liz said remembering the girl from her high school.

“Yeah, but she threw awesome parties.” Maria protested and the rest of the girl’s nodded in agreement.

“Remember her party the night of graduation?” Isabel asked them.

They all nodded again.

“How could I forget?” Liz muttered thinking back once again to her life in Roswell that summer.

Hey Guys!!!!

I'm really really tired, so no individual feedback this time...I just want to get this out.

But thank you to ALL OF YOU for the feedback and the really means a lot.

Okay, I am going to try and clear something up.

There are a couple of events that lead up to Liz leaving and the flashbacks are so you can see how happy they all were and some of them have hint's to what is coming up. So not all the flashbacks will be happy and fun, although the first couple will and then things will get tense.

Okay, so there is a song in this part and obviously I don't own it. And I mention a couple of celebrities...don't own them either *surprise!* So I hope that I do not offend anyone...I'm sure I'm forgetting something...

Anyways...Thank you all again!!!!!!!!! You are all AWESOME!!!!!!!!

Graduation Night
June 2002

“I’m not a girl, Not yet a woman,
All I need is time, a moment that is mine,
While I’m in between…”

The song died on its singer’s lips quickly as a hand pushed a random button on the radio and classical music began to fill the air.

“HEY! I was singing that.”

Liz turned in the passenger seat of the jeep and glared at the driver.

“Look Max, if you’re trying to tell me something…” Liz scolded while her hair flew about her face. “I think that we need to have a serious talk. Because I don’t think that it’s a good idea for me to be dating a guy who is stuck being not quite a girl and not quite a woman yet.”

“I happen to like the positive message that Britney sends out to her fans.” Max argued with a defiant look on his face.

“And what message would that be? You don’t listen to anything that bimbo says, you just like to stare at her fake chest.” Liz told him while trying not to laugh.

Max faked a gasp and began to yell. “I will throw you out of this car if you continue to bad mouth my role model.”

“You need a life.” She told him laughing at his serious expression.

“Then why are you with me if I need a life?” He asked glancing over at her while they stopped at a red light.

“I need something to do to pass the time.” She said tucking her hair behind her ear and trying to look uninterested in the conversation.

Max began to laugh and leaned over to kiss her grabbing her chin in his hand.

“I love you.” He said pulling away and looking into her eyes.

“The light is green.” She said looking up at the stop lights.

Max smiled and pressed on the gas.

“I love you too.” She said placing a hand on his knee.

“Who doesn’t?” He teased and she laughed and turned to look at the passing houses.

“Tell me again why we are going to Pam Troy’s party?” She asked him pushing the button on the radio after realizing that the classical station was still on.

“Because it’s Graduation.” He said simply, and then admitted. “And her parties are the best.”

“I should have thrown a party.” Liz pouted jokingly.

“No one would go to your party.” He told her stealing a glance her way.

“Why not?” She demanded turning to look at him.

“You’re a loser.” He told her sadly and they both began to laugh.

Max pulled the jeep onto the turn off and Liz spotted a car a few yards ahead.

“Is that Maria?” Liz asked squinting to identify the car in front of them.

“Yeah, I think so.” Max said and a grin spread across his face.

He pressed harder on the gas and the jeep began to gain speed. They drove up behind the Jetta and could make out Michael driving and Maria in the passenger seat. Max pulled up behind them quickly and began to honk at them furiously.
“Max!” Liz cried laughing.

“They don’t know it’s us.” He told her laughing as they heard the Jetta’s horn blare back.

Checking to make sure no one was on the road Max pulled the Jeep along side of the Jetta and they could both hear Michael yelling at them.

“What the fuck is your problem asshole?” He screamed and then looked up to see his two friends.

“Good evening!” Max called laughing.

“You son of a bitch!” Michael yelled but a grin spread across his face.

“You’re dead Max!” Maria yelled from the passenger side.

But Max just waved and pulled in front of them.

“Maria is going to kill you.” Liz warned.

“I know.” He said and they both began to laugh. Liz looked in her mirror to see the Jetta become smaller and smaller.

Less then a minute later they began to see the pile of cars that lined the street.

Max pulled the Jeep into the first spot that he could find about seven houses down from where the party actually was.

“We going to wait for them?” Max asked hopping out of the jeep.

“Yeah.” Liz replied as the Jetta came into view. She walked around the jeep and stood next to Max who slung his arm over her shoulders.

Michael pulled the car up behind the jeep and got out.

“What took you so long?” Max asked with a smirk.

“Little Miss. Freak Out…” Michael said walking up to him and throwing his arm in the direction of where Maria was getting out of the car. “…She practically had her foot on the brakes the whole way over here.”

Maria came walking up behind him, wearing a pair of tight white pants and a stylish black top, with her middle finger in the air. Liz began to laugh and Michael spun around.

“What?” Maria asked innocently, her hands now at her sides.

Michael looked at her for a moment and then began to walk with Max down the street.

Maria walked up to Liz and linked her arm with hers.

“How can you wear long sleeves? I’m sweating!” Liz asked Maria as they followed behind Max and Michael.

“Gotta hide the track marks somehow.” Maria joked.

“I hate going to Pam’s parties.” Liz told her and Maria rested her head on her shoulder.

“Just think, we can get hammered and make fun of her all night!” Maria said cheerfully.

“YEAH!!” They shouted together acting childish causing Max and Michael to glance back at them. The guys shook their heads and turned back around.

The passed another house and then heard the music. People began to show up on the sidewalks.

They turned a small bend and there stood Pam’s huge home. Music blaring, kids all over the lawn, car’s cluttering the street.

“It’s party time!” Maria yelled using her ‘Hammer-Time’ voice.

“So did we scare you back there?” Liz asked her and Maria looked up at her smiling.

“Not as much as I am going to scare him.” Maria said and let go of Liz’s arm.

“This is going to back fire…whatever it is.” Liz warned.

“It always does.” Maria told her and Liz watched as she ran straight for Max and jumped on his back screaming.

And she also watched as in one quick motion, Max reached behind him and grabbed hold of Maria, throwing her over his shoulder.

He began to run with her and Liz laughed as she screamed her head off. Max ran with her over Pam’s lawn. Most of the kids on the lawn began to cheer, while some threw up.

Liz walked up to Michael who was waiting for her near the steps leading up to Pam’s house.

“Looks like it’s you and me.” Michael told her and offered her his arm as they watched Max run into Pam’s house with Maria still over his shoulder.

“We make a cuter couple anyway.” Liz said and they smiled and made their way up to the house.

They walked in the front hall to notice that there were not as many people as they originally thought. There was still quite a few though.

The music was blaring, club beats with no lyrics and people ran by them dancing and laughing and holding drinks in their hands.

“Everyone else was supposed to meet us here.” Liz told Michael as they made their way into the house.

“I don’t see any of them.” He said referring to Isabel, Alex, Tess and Kyle.

“Let’s go this way.” Liz told him and grabbed his arm leading away from the den where the music was the loudest.

They entered the family room and looked around, waving to familiar faces but not seeing any of their friends.

“Where’s the food?” Michael asked looking around Liz rolled her eyes.

They both turned to see Max behind them letting Maria off his shoulder. He was grinning like an idiot and she was slapping him.

“I think I have brain damage now.” She complained as she stopped hitting him and leaned onto Michael’s shoulder.

“Don’t blame Max, I’m pretty sure that you had it before.” Michael said and was rewarded with a punch in the abdomen and also very close to a precious part of his body.

“Hey! You bruise ‘em. You lose ‘em.” Michael warned placing his hands over his groin area.

“Please. I don’t want to hear about you depriving her of sex.” Liz said as Maria laughed and kissed Michael on the cheek quickly.

“Have you guys seen anyone else?” Liz asked looking at Max who shook his head.

“There’s Tess.” Maria said and they turned to see a very distressed Tess making her way over.

“What took you guys so long?” She asked when reaching them but she didn’t wait for an answer. “Where’s Isabel and Alex?”

“They’re not here yet?” Max asked and Tess shook her head. “Alex was at my place when I left waiting for Isabel to finish getting ready.

Everyone nodded in understanding, no wonder Alex wasn’t there yet.

“Where’s Kyle?” Max asked looking around.

Tess shook her head in exasperation. “It’s not good.”

“What happened?” Maria asked quickly.

“Don’t worry, nothing bad.” Tess said looking confused for a moment. “Well, I guess it depends on how you look at it.”

“What happened?” Liz pressed.

“Well, we got here and you know Kyle…Started drinking right away. He already threw up in the back yard. So I lost him for awhile, and I was hoping that you would all show up soon.” She said shooting them all daggers. “But NO!...You all left me here.”

“So where is he now?” Michael asked.

“That’s the bad part.” Tess sighed putting her hand on her hips. “The last time I saw him, he was walking around thinking that he’s Nelly.”

“Nelly?” Liz questioned voicing the confusion of all of them.

“Yeah…Nelly!” Tess said looking at them as if they had all grown another head

They continued to look at her, not having any idea what the hell she was talking about.

“You know…Nelly!” She cried exasperated and began to do some weird motions with her hands and proclaim to be ‘Number 1’.

“First of all, don’t ever do that again.” Michael warned her referring to her bad ‘free styling’ motions. “And second of all, you are talking about the rapper Nelly right?”

“Duh! What other Nelly do you know?” She asked him as if he were a moron.

“Why does Kyle think he is Nelly?” Max asked confused.

“Well, from what I know…He started going through Pam’s drawer’s and found a box of band-aid’s…”

She was cut off when Maria covered her mouth with her hands

“Oh my God.” She whispered and they all turned to see Kyle coming from the kitchen and making his way over to them.

“How much has he had to drink?” Max asked but no one answered as they watched Kyle make his way over.

He came across the room carrying a drink in one hand, his left pant leg was rolled up, he had a hat on backwards and there was a band-aid on his cheek under his left eye.

“There are my Bitches!” He cried joining them and taking a swig from his drink.

He went off balance for a moment and Michael lightly pushed back on his two feet.

“Nice band-aid.” Liz said smirking at him.

“Hey, it’s the shit!” Kyle protested grinning. “I could like totally be Nelly’s twin brother. Couldn’t I?”

“Yeah, anything’s possible if you believe.” Max said trying to hold back laughter as he patted Kyle on the back.

“I believe.” Kyle whispered wide-eyed. “Besides, I can rap.”

Before anyone could protest Kyle loudly began to tell everyone that it was ‘Hot in here’ and they should ‘Take off all your clothes’. All the while pulling his own shirt up and having people yell and cheer him on.

“You’re an ass.” Tess muttered and walked away.

Liz shot a glance to Maria who shrugged her shoulders and they made their way over to their blonde friend who was across the room glaring at her boyfriend.

Meanwhile Max and Michael grabbed a hold of Kyle and confiscated his drink while telling him to shut up.

“But…I’m Nelly.” Kyle said sadly pointing to his band-aid.

Max and Michael exchanged a glance realizing just how out-of-it Kyle was.

“No…You’re Kyle. Not Nelly.” Michael said slowly and quietly so that people walking by wouldn’t over hear.

“I’m not Nelly?” Kyle asked touching the band-aid.

“No…you’re Kyle.” Max said gently.

“Oh…okay. But I want to keep the band-aid.” Kyle said defiantly while crossing his arms.

“Go ahead.” Max told him and placed Kyle’s drink down on the nearest table.

“Hey! Who are you supposed to be? Snoop Dogg?”

Max and Michael turned to look and saw Alex behind them.

“Can I be Snoop Dogg?” Kyle asked hopefully looking between Max and Michael.

“NO!” They said at the same time and Kyle threw himself down on the chair beside him and began to sulk.

“What’s up with him?” Alex asked laughing.

“He’s tanked. He thinks he’s Nelly.” Michael told him.

“Who?” Alex asked confused. “What about Snoop Dogg?”

“Never mind.” Max told him while smirking at Alex’s attempt to keep up with the whole ‘rap scene’.

“He’s your best friend.” Michael told Alex. “Shouldn’t you have been watching him?”

“Yeah, why are you so late?” Max asked.

Alex sighed and shook his head. “The Princess had to get ready.”

Max and Michael looked over to where Isabel had joined the other girls.

“I feel bad for you man.” Max told him knowing how his sister could get.

All of a sudden Kyle jumped up. “That’s what I don’t get about women. They take FOREVER to get ready and they never look any different. What do they do with all of that time? They still look like they just woke up!”

“I wouldn’t say that too loud.” Alex warned his friend kindly.

“I don’t care!” Kyle stated. “I’m Nelly and I ain’t scared of no one.”

Michael, Max and Alex watched as Kyle made his way over to the girl’s.

“This is going to be interesting.” Max said.

“The guy’s digging his own grave.” Michael agreed.

“Well I’m not helping him out of it.” Alex said and then they watched as Kyle began to talk to them.

They couldn’t hear what he said, but they got a pretty good idea from the reactions.

Isabel’s mouth dropped just as Tess began to slap him. Maria’s eyes were wide with shock.

Max laughed and saw that Liz was standing there trying not to laugh.

She looked over and met his eye with a smile to match his.

He winked at her and looked to his two friends. “Let’s go get some drinks.”

“Some party.” Max muttered and Liz nodded in agreement.

They were parked in front of the Crashdown and the streets were empty. She was resting her head on his shoulder.

“Did you see the look on Pam’s face when Michael puked in her mom’s favorite plant?” Liz asked and began to giggle at the memory.

“Yeah. I knew that Michael was going to go over board when Alex had agreed to drive him and Maria home.”

A little into the party, Isabel drove a very upset Tess home, leaving Kyle stranded. So Alex had agreed to drive Michael, Maria and Kyle home in the Jetta. That also made it easier on Max because he then had some else who was not drinking to keep him company.

“Oh and thank you for being my designated driver.” Liz said kissing his neck.

“You owe me. I only got one beer.” Max said bringing his hand up to touch her hair.

“I do owe you. I owe you BIG! So whatever you want is yours.” She told him with a glint in her eye as she looked up at him.

“Why, Elizabeth Parker! Are you trying to seduce me?” Max said in a really bad southern drawl.

“Is it working?” She asked grinning up at him.

“It always does.” He told her laughing at how unbelievably cute she could be.

She smiled back up at him and pulled his face down to reach hers.

Max reached out and cupped her face in his hands. He closed his eyes loving the feeling of her lips on his and her tongue touching his. She tasted sweet. He could faintly taste the whiskey that she had been drinking and it just added to the amazing taste that was hers.

“Do you think that they are okay?” She asks suddenly pulling away from him.

“Tess and Kyle?” He questioned knowing exactly who she was talking about.

“Yeah, they just seem like they are really on edge lately. Has Kyle said anything?”

“No.” He told her truthfully.

“Maybe they are getting sick of each other.” Liz said thoughtfully looking at Max.

“Maybe, she is getting sick of him.” Max said slowly and Liz narrowed her eyes in confusion. “It’s just that Tess is the one who is on edge all the time.”

Liz nodded in agreement. “I’m gonna have to talk to her.”

“That’s why I love you.” Max told her taking her hand.

“Why?” She asked.

“Because you care so much about other people.” He said and leaned down to kiss her.

“You’re pretty good at this mushy stuff.” Liz told him as she grabbed her purse.

“Don’t get used to it.” He told her grinning and gave her another quick kiss.

She jumped out of the jeep as he started it and walked onto the sidewalk.

She waved briefly and made her way to the front doors of the Crashdown.

“Hey Liz!” He called as she was pulling her keys out of her purse.

“Yeah?” She called back turning around.

“When are you going to get sick of me and not want to see me again?” He asked grinning.

She paused for a moment.

“When pigs fly.” She told him honestly and he smiled and pulled out of the parking place and drove off down the street.

Liz unlocked the Crashdown door and went inside with a smile on her face.
