Title: Betrayed
Category: R m/l cc
Spoilers: S1 and S2 till EOTW
Discaimer: They're mine! All mine! MWAHAHAHAHA!! Seriously I don't own them (sob!)
Author note: I know, I know. WTF is she doing writing another fic. Well, I wrote this a long time ago, but I'm gonna give you one chapter a day. Kay?

Chapter 1

"How could you?" Max Evans stared at Liz Parker, the hurt and betrayal evident in his amber eyes, in the set of his mouth.

"I trusted you. I loved you. After all we've been through together, how could you sleep with Kyle?"

Liz just stared at him. Last night she'd broken Max's heart, and her own in the process, in a bid to save the world. To save Max.

"Last night I saw you with him. How could you? Please Liz," he begged. "Tell me I didn’t see it. That it was just a dream. My eyes playing tricks on me. Tell me you didn’t betray me. *Please. *"

The tears were running unchecked down his face. He didn’t care.

Liz ignored the instinct to throw herself in his arms. To tell him the truth. To tell him about FutureMax. She turned away so he wouldn't see the truth on her face, in her eyes.

"I can't Max. Kyle and I made love. Maybe..." her voice choked. "Maybe I just don't love you the way we both thought I did."

"No."

One word laced with pain.

Again Liz resisted her instincts. She could feel him leave the room. She turned around in time to see him climb down the ladder from her balcony. She threw herself on her bed and cried herself to sleep.
**********************************************
*Next day*

"Are you sure honey?" Nancy Parker asked her daughter.

"Yeah mom. I think it's for the best anyway." Liz answered.

"Okay. I'll call my sister. Oh, I'm really gonna miss you honey," Nancy cried as she hugged her daughter.

"Mom. I've got a favour to ask you. Don't tell anyone 'til I'm gone and don't tell anyone where I’m going, okay?"
"But honey, what about your friends?"

"No mom, no-one okay?"

"Okay honey."
**********************************************
*Five hours later*

The tears ran down Liz's cheeks as she looked out the plane window. Her heart was shattering, but she knew she couldn't stay in Roswell. She knew she wouldn't be able to stand it when Max realised his destiny with Tess.

"Goodbye."

Sorry Jauwlo, this isn't a crossover story

here's the next chapter

Chapter 2

*Five years later*

The streets of Roswell were dark. In the Guerin house, Michael groaned as the baby cried out. He was about to get out of bed when Maria, his wife of three years, sat up.

"I'll get it honey," she whispered.

In the Valenti house, Tess slept with her head rested on Kyle's chest.

In the Whitman house, Alex lay on his side and watched his wife Isabel sleeps. They had also been married three years.

In the Evans house, Max was wide-awake, once again staring at a picture of Liz. He knew all about FutureMax. Had known for four years. He caressed the picture, a single tear falling. It still hurt to think about her, but he couldn't stop. She consumed his every waking moment and his dreams. He closed his eyes.

A lone car cruised to a stop in front of the Crashdown Cafe. A young woman stepped out and reached into the back seat to pick up a sleeping child.

"So many memories," she whispered, looking at the cafe.

The Parker’s were sat at the counter, talking. Nancy looked out the window and saw the young woman. She walked with her husband to the door and unlocked it.

Liz Parker smiled.

"I'm home."
***********************************************
Thursday 25th June
I'm Liz Parker and it's been 5 years since I wrote in this journal. I've just re-read my words. The memories are so fresh in my mind.

5 years ago I left my heart in Roswell and moved to an aunts in Scotland. I wonder how my friends will react when they find out about Jay, my 5-year-old daughter. I wonder how they will react when they find out who her father is.

I know they will be surprised to find out that neither Jay nor I are completely human. Max really did change me. So did Jay's father. I can't think about her father without a chill running down my spine.

I hope that they believe me when I tell them that I wasn't a willing participant in our coupling, but I can never regret my beautiful baby girl. Never. I need their help though. Because he wants my baby girl. And I have to protect her. Even if it means seeing Max with Tess. Even if it means breaking the promise I made to myself and returning to Roswell.

Liz put her pen down and looked towards the bed. Jay was sleeping peacefully, her blonde curls resting on the pillow.

Liz yawned and climbed into bed next to her. She fell asleep wandering what was going to happen when her friends found out that she was back.

I think I should inform you that most of the chapters are really short.

Chapter 3
*Dream*

"My dear Krynn. You can run as far as you like. I will find you and I will possess you again. Your dear Zan will not save you this time."

His deceptively silky voice permeated the haze that was Liz's dream and she knew he was dream-walking her.

Liz choked back the bilge in her throat, refusing to give him the satisfaction of seeing her cry.

He saw past her efforts.

"Ah sweetheart, you can show fear in front of the father of your child, can't you," he chuckled.

She turned, against her own will, and looked him in the face. So human looking. He didn't look like she remembered him, a lifetime ago.

"A few more memories, to teach you to respect your mate," he snarled, the harmless, human face contorting in rage.

Images bombarded Liz.

Her body remembered the beatings while her mind remembered the eyes of her loved ones as she last saw them last.

The pain in Ava's, the hate in Vilandra's, the betrayal in Rath's.

Liz knew what was coming next. Zan. She slid to her knees, her mouth open in a silent scream.

Amber eyes filled with pain then betrayal. Revulsion then hate.

Liz broke free of his grip on her subconscious.

"NO!"

*End dream*
***********************************************
*Across town*

-Evans-

*NO! *

Max sat bolt up right in his bed, the sweat pouring off his body as the desperate cry reverberated around his head.

-Guerins-

*NO!*

Michael and Maria were jolted from their dreams by the cry.

"What the-?"

-Valenti's-

*NO!*

Kyle held a silently sobbing Tess to his chest, whispering soothing noises into her ear as he tried to calm his own shot nerves.

-Whitman's-

*NO!*

Alex rang Max while trying desperately to calm a hysterical Isabel.

<"What?">

"Did you hear that?"

<"Yeah.">

"Right we're coming over. I'll call Maria and Michael, you call Tess and Kyle."

<"Alex. It's three in the morning.">

"I know but if everyone heard what we heard then I doubt anyone's gonna get anymore sleep tonight."

-Whether they knew it or not, they all agreed on one thing. That was the cry of a tortured soul. -
***********************************************
Liz looked in the mirror as she splashed her face with water.

"Momma?"

Liz looked down at Jay. He was coming. Soon. If she was going to tell them, it had to be now.

"Honey, go get dressed. We gotta go now."

As Liz watched Jay move around the room, she was surprised at the fierce protectiveness that stole over her. She wouldn't just die for her baby. She would kill for her.

Liz got dressed and hoped to God that she was strong enough to face her friends.
***********************************************
Liz pulled up outside the Evans house and prayed that one of her old friends still lived there. She looked at the overhead clock.

3:45

Liz took a deep breath and stepped out of the car. Putting on a brave smile she reached out a hand for Jay.

"Come on sweetie."

Steeling herself for the worst, Liz knocked on the door.
***********************************************
"Hey, Alex? Can you get that?"

"Yeah sure."

Alex ambled over to the door and opened it to find a strangely familiar young woman on the doorstep.

"Can I help you?"
***********************************************
"Can I help you?"

“Um yeah. I'm, um, looking for someone who used to live here."

Liz felt like an idiot. She should have checked with her parents first. Max might not even be in Roswell anymore.

"Yeah? Who?"

"Um, Max Evans?"

The mans eyes narrowed and he leaned closer. Unconsciously, Liz leaned back. His eyes then widened in recognition.

"Liz?"
***********************************************
In the house everyone sat up straighter when they heard her voice. It was her. The voice that had woken them. Then they heard Alex say her name and they collectively surged from their seats and ran to the door.
***********************************************
Liz gasped.

"Alex."

Then she fainted. The others reached the door in time to see a blonde girl stalk over to Alex and kicked him in the shin.

"You killed her!" she exclaimed hotly.
***********************************************
Liz was sinking.

"Back so soon, sweetheart?" he asked.

He didn't even bother to taunt her this time before assailing her with memories of her past life.

hey guys. sorry about the delay but I've been feeling really icky for the last few days. I'll warn you now, there will be reference to rape in this part. no details but...

Chapter 4

As Liz was bombarded with images, the fine line between her and her past self became thinner.

She was reliving her life as Krynn. Her parents dying, being sent to the palace.

As the last three cycles (years) of her life played in her mind, she screamed the name of the one person who could soothe her pain.

***********************************************
Liz's body arched off the bed she had been placed on and she screamed.

"RATH!!!"

Michael was immediately by her side although he did not know why. He tried to hold Liz down as she thrashed amidst the sheets.

"Michael! What's wrong with her?" Maria screamed.

"I don't know! I don't know! Liz for Gods sake. Wake up!" As a last resort, Michael shouted the name that had been hovering in the back of his mind all night. "KRYNN!"

Liz sat bolt upright and stared at the people before her in terror. Then her eyes landed on Michael and she burst out crying, throwing her arms around him.

"Don't leave me! Don't leave me!" Liz was hysterical.

"I won't," he whispered. It was all coming back now. Who Krynn was and how much he loved her.

He noticed his friends were staring at him and Liz.

"Sweetheart. Do you remember who you are now? Why you're here?"

Liz sniffed and nodded yes.

"Where's my baby."

"I'm here Momma. Did Daddy hurt you again?"

Liz crying again. So young and yet she knew so much.

"Michael. Explain." Maria ground out.

Liz looked up. Her eyes were red and her face was covered in tear tracks.

"I need your help."

***********************************************

Maria and Max watched as Liz cuddled close to Michael. Maria knew Michael loved her, but she couldn't help but feel jealous that her best friend was cuddled up to her husband. She knew Max didn't feel any better about the situation either.

Everyone was confused. Why had Michael called Liz Krynn? And how had Liz known that Michael had been called Rath on their home planet? Liz had left before Max and Tess's journey to New York with the dupes.

"Liz?" Tess encouraged.

"Are you sure she's asleep?" Liz asked about Jay.

"Out like a light," confirmed Isabel.

Liz took a deep breath and started.

"I don't know how he found me. I was at my Aunt Sandra's in Scotland. Anyway, one day Max showed up. But it wasn't Max. It was Kivar. He knew I loved Max and thought I would be more...receptive if he was in that form. But I wasn't. I could tell he wasn't Max. So he..." Liz choked and Michael tightened his hold on her. Everyone stiffened as if they knew what was coming next." He raped me."

Max let out a strangled cry and Isabel, Maria and Tess put their hands to their mouths. Alex looked like he was going to be sick, while Michael looked like he was gonna rip out Kivar's heart with his hands.

"I became pregnant with Jay. But that's what he wanted. An heir so he can secure the throne."

"Liz?" Tess asked. "Why was he after you?"

"Liz stiffened and Michael looked like someone had ripped *his* heart out.

"He's my husband."

omb! I am so sorry you guys! don't hate me! please don't hate me.

three new chapters.

*offers it meekly*

Chapter 5

"He's my husband."

"WHAT?"

"But how is this possible? Liz is human!"

"No she isn't." This was from Michael. Everyone stared at him, but he focused on Liz and vice versa.

"How much do you remember?" Liz asked him.

"Everything," Michael whispered.

Isabel snapped.

"OK! I've had it with the lovey-dovey, cryptic attitude. What do we know? You were married to Kivar. Michael remembers you. How? Why can't we? Why the hell are you cuddling?"

"Michael.... Rath.... He’s my brother." Liz ignored the gasps and cuddled closer to Micheal. "When Rath moved to the palace with Uncle, I was so upset because we were really close. Then when our parents died, I was moved to the palace to live with Rath and Uncle. I was so happy and sad at the same time, and Rath promised he'd never leave me again." Michael was stroking her hair now.

"We both became inseparable, so it was only natural that I become friends with his friends. Ava became my friend first. She was quiet. Shy. She never liked to get in the way.

Then I met Lonnie. So outgoing, unlike Ava and I. But, opposites attract and she became my second best friend.

Of course, what with Rath being his second, Lonnie being his sister and Ava being his wife, I was bound to meet Zan. We fell in love but he wouldn't betray Ava, and I had already been betrothed to Kivar.

The night of the wedding, I overheard my new mate talking about plans to destroy the Royal Family.

Over the next two moons, I gathered information and gave it to my brother.

One night I was caught and Kivar mind-raped me to find out how much I knew and what I had done with the information. He was furious. He decided to really punish me.

He was going to kill them anyway, it was the manner of their death that was my punishment." Liz stopped then. She couldn't tell them anymore.

"Do you want me to finish," Michael asked tenderly.

Liz shook her head and composed herself for the hardest part.

"Rath was first. Kivar made him sit by me and watch as the others died because that was his greatest fear. Failing the people he had sworn to protect.

Then came Ava. Her greatest fear was of being rejected. Of having no friends. Kivar taunted her, saying she was only tolerated because of her parents. That Zan had been desperate to get me in his bed. It went on for an hour, then Kivar gave her to his men before beheading her. Before she died, she looked at me with such hate.

Then came Lonnie. Her greatest fear was that she would betray the people she loved. Kivar taunted her with images of them meeting, of Lonnie giving Kivar information. Of the two of them ...together. By the time Kivar and his men were finished she begged to die.

Then Zan"
Chapter 6

Before Liz could recount anymore of that painful night, a scream was heard from Max's room.

The room Jay was in.

Liz shot from the couch and ran as fast as she could, unaware of the others following her.

"Momma! Momma!"

"I'm coming baby!"

Liz burst into the room and saw him bent over her daughter, in the act of picking her up.

Kyle, who had been looking over Jay was unconscious on the floor behind him.

"No," Liz whispered as he looked up and grinned.

Michael, who was stood behind Liz, gave a muffled roar and raised his hand, aiming for Khivar.

"Ah ah ah. I wouldn't do that if I were you Rath. You wouldn't want to hurt the child now would you," Khivar taunted, his whispered words sending shivers down Liz's spine.

"Momma! Momma!" Jay was writhing, struggling to get away from her father.

"Now, is that anyway to treat your Daddy, sweetheart. Krynn, enough of this. You are coming with me whether you like it or not. Or do you want a repeat of the last time you disobeyed me."

Khivar was so caught up in his victory over his stubborn mate that he didn't notice Kyle standing behind him. With a strength born of desperation to save his best friends daughter, Kyle swung the baseball bat. It connected with the back of Khivars head with a sickening crack.
Khivar fell to the ground, dropping Jay who immediately scrambled to her mother.

Both Jay and Liz were hysterical as they clung to each other. "Oh my baby! Are you okay? Oh God. Oh God." Liz whispered as she rocked her little girl, only now fully comprehending how close she had come to losing her daughter.

Chapter 7
Khivar came out of his daze to find himself tied to a chair.

-Stupid humans- he thought, trying to use his powers on his bonds.

He began to curse when he realised that his bonds had been re-enforced with alien powers.

"You kiss your mom with that mouth?" the hard voice came from directly in front of him and Khivar raised his head to find five extremely pissed aliens in front of him as well as three humans who could probably do him harm as he was powerless.

Deciding to make them as angry as possible, Khivar went for the throat.

"No. Just my wife" he sneered.

As he had expected, Zan and Rath tensed and looked ready to kill. However, he did not count on said wife to restrain them.

"It's not going to work Khivar. You're going to be punished, but none of us are stupid enough to kill that body" Liz said.

Khivars eyes widened and he watched in fear as the aliens left the room only to replaced by humans who looked to be...What were they again? Oh yes. Native Americans.

A fire had been set in the middle of the room, raised about a foot from the floor so as not to cause a fire.

--------

After the sweat was finished, the Native Americans filed from the room. RiverDog stopped in front of Max and Max shook his hand.

"Thank you RiverDog. We couldn't have done this without you."

RiverDog smiled. "I know."

--------

Liz watched with cold eyes as the man who had killed her love and stolen her innocence died. Though he was the father of her child, Liz hated him with a passion.

This ritual would ensure that only the outer shell of his body would die, leaving his mind alive within the corpse. A little something she remembered from her life on Antar, it was a punishment for only the most evil of crimes. Khivar had committed enough of them to span two lifetimes.

Liz felt a hand on her shoulder and looked at her brother’s face. Tears ran down her cheeks as she cried for them.

"We're free Rath. We're finally free."

Michael’s arms circled her and he closed his eyes. His cheek rested on her head and he held her shaking form tenderly. He knew she wasn't crying for that bastard. She was crying for all the years she missed. For their parents. For them.

Michael felt a wetness on his face and realised he was also crying. But what amazed him was that he didn't care.

Chapter 8

"Liz? Are you ok honey?" Maria asks as she looks at her friend curled up on Max's bed.

"Yeah. It's just hard to believe, y'know. I don't have to run or hide anymore. I can finally give my daughter a real life. I can finally start living again." Liz answered.

"Aw, honey. I can't say I know what you're going through, but I can be here for you." Maria whispered hugging Liz.

"Thanks Maria."

"We've all missed you chica. One talk dark Czechoslovakian in particular."

"Max? Maria, he thinks I..."

"Slept with Kyle? Naw, chica. We've all known the truth for nearly three years."

Liz looked at Maria in shock. "How...?"

"Tess got some flashes from a ring on your balcony. We know everything Liz. Tess feels guilty even now" Liz began to protest but Maria held up a hand. "Yeah I know. Nothing to feel guilty about, but she's even more stubborn than Michael. If that is even a possibility."

Liz giggled then sobered.

"I think it's time I finished it, Maria. Can you get everyone in here."

"Don't you want to go in the living room, chica."

Liz gave her a panicked look.

"I can't leave her again tonight, Maria. Not tonight. Maybe not for a long while. This is the closest I've ever come to losing her and I need to take a while to convince myself that she is.... safe. We haven't been safe in a long while. Old habits die hard I guess."

"OK, chica." Maria smiled in understanding before leaving the room to gather the gang.

Chapter 9
AN: this is a flashback to when the the gang found out about Future Max. all flashes courtesy of Crashdown.com

"Max, you have to stop this. She's gone and if that note was any indication, she's not coming back! It's been two years...Max? Max!" Tess shouted at Max as he sat in his room, staring at a picture of Liz.

Liz. My Liz

"Arghh!" Tess screamed as she left the Evans'.

Damn you Liz Parker. Why'd he have to love you? Why couldn’t he have loved me like that? At least when she was here he acknowledged me.

Tess had never felt so alone in her life. Maria, Alex, Isabel and Michael blamed her for Liz leaving, Kyle still wigged out when she used her powers around him, the Sheriff was looking for Liz and Max... Max wasn't talking to anyone.

It wasn't supposed to be like this. I was supposed to be loved. God, I feel more alone than I did when I lived with Nasedo.

Tess swiped angry tears from her face and looked up.

She was in front of the Crashdown. She felt drawn to something up there so she quickly scaled the ladder to Liz's balcony.

It was beautiful. There were candles everywhere and christmas lights adorned the brick wall at the back of the balcony.

This was her sanctuary.

Seeing some discoloration on the wall, Tess stepped forward. On closer inspection, she found it was a red heart with an arrow through it.

Tess rested her hand on it and gasped softly as she was assaulted by the flash.

<< This is where I blew it with her...so this is where I'll make it right.

His emotions, dizzy drunkenness and complete love and devotion, filled Tess and she pulled back, her eyes wide.

What the...?

It was the first time she had gotten an involuntary flash from anything.

Tess looked around the balcony. There was something here. Something important.

A glint of metal caught her eye. It was a ring. A mans wedding ring.

Tess picked it up and immediately sank to her knees.

Horror and anguish ripped through her and her mouth opened on a silent scream as the flashes began.

<< FUTURE MAX: Liz, what's about to happen over the next few days is critical to the history of this planet. Things between us are about to change...grow deeper. We become inseparable, and nothing comes between us ever again, until...

LIZ: The...the end of the world?

FUTURE MAX: That's right.

LIZ: What happened?

FUTURE MAX: The closer that you and I grew, the worse it got with Tess, and eventually she left Roswell.

LIZ: Because of me?

FUTURE MAX: Because of me, and how I treated her. And it turned out Tess was critical to our survival. The four of us - Michael, Isabel, Tess, and I...we made a complete unit. We all had different gifts, and with one of us missing, we weren't as strong, and everything fell apart. >>

<< FUTURE MAX: It didn't work. We have to do something else.

LIZ: Do you know how hard it was for me to tell him that I didn't want to die for him? He's the only reason that I'm alive right now. You...you've...you gotta come up with another plan. Please go to someone else. I...I just...I can't do this anymore. >>

<< FUTURE MAX: Just 25 minutes before I came here, I held Michael in my arms...dead. Isabel died 2 weeks before that. Now you have to do this. You have to find a way. All of our lives depend on it. >>

<< FUTURE MAX: I've fought a thousand battles...but watching you do that was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. >>

<< LIZ: How? What can I do that's gonna make you turn away from me?

FUTURE MAX: I don't know. >>

<< FUTURE MAX: You really think this is gonna work? I would never be jealous of Kyle. >>

<< LIZ: Yeah. Um, Kyle, look...I just wanna make sure that I...I...I made it actually clear that we're not gonna...

KYLE: Consummate. I understand.

LIZ: Right. And when we kiss...

KYLE: No tongue. I'm on board. >>

<< Max shows up with the Gomez tickets in hand. He sees Liz and Kyle in bed together and is stunned. He drops the tickets and leaves>>

<< FUTURE MAX: ........Maybe it would be better for you to be with a human. >>

<< LIZ: I'm gonna be alone.

FUTURE MAX: Maybe. Maybe not. From now on, the future is to be determined. It's what I've always said to you, Liz. We create our own destiny.

LIZ: Could you dance with me?

FUTURE MAX: What?

LIZ: I wanna have my wedding dance. >>

<< LIZ: Don't you realise what you are to me...and you're always gonna be? You're the love of my life. Everyone else is gonna be second best. There'll never be another you. >>

<< FUTURE MAX kissing his ring and dropping it discreetly on the floor. He kisses Liz's hair and whispers, "I love you Liz," before disappearing. >>

Tess was sobbing hard when the flashes ended.

Oh my God. He was so hurt. She was so hurt.

Strong arms enveloped her and she looked up into the confused and concerned amber eyes of Max Evans. Tess threw her arms around him, crying harder now.

"Oh God Max. What have I done?"

Chapter 10

While Maria had been with Liz, Michael had finished explaining their deaths on Antar.

Liz had fallen asleep almost straight away after Maria had left her and everyone had gone home. Michael had been reluctant to leave but Maria had reminded him that Max could take care of Liz and that he had the baby to think of.

Now, Max sat in the chair in his room and watched the love of his life and her daughter sleep.

It felt like a dream. Liz was back and here. Ok, so it wasn't exactly like his many dreams of them re-uniting, but it was close. At least she was here.

Max closed his eyes and when he opened them again, he was met with Jay's baby blues.

"Hey," he said softly.

"Hey. Can I ask you sumfin'?"

"Sure. Go ahead."

"Can you help my Momma?"

"How?"

"Make her dream of sumfin' else."

Jay climbed off of the bed and into his lap. Max closed his arms around her tiny form almost instinctively. Jay yawned and snuggled close.

"Can I ask you sumfin' else?"

Max chuckled softly. She was just like her mother. Always full of questions.

"Yeah."

"Will you be my daddy?"

Max stiffened.

"Why do you ask that, Jay?" he asked softly.

"Mommy always wanted you to be my daddy. I did too, but you couldn't be my daddy with my real daddy here. But he's gone now and I want you to be my daddy now."

"Don't you think that's up to your mother?"

"Mmm hmm. But she really really wants you to be my daddy."

Jay trailed off as she fell asleep and Max stared down at her blond curls.

Well, he thought weakly.

Within minutes though, Max was asleep, his arms wrapped around the little girl he knew for sure that he had fallen in love with as surely as he had fallen in love with her mother.

Liz stretched and stiffened when she couldn't feel her daughter next to her. Her eyes flew open and she shot up in bed but froze in the next second.

There, at the foot of the bed, Max was sat in an old armchair with Jay in his arms.

Liz felt her heart constrict. Jay had never really trusted anyone as a result of the running they had both had to do, but she was now clinging to Max in her sleep as if he was some sort of life line.

Of their own accord, Liz's eyes swept over Max's face. His lashes fanned his cheeks and his rumpled hair curled boyishly over his forehead.

Liz watched as his eyes fluttered open and she was caught in the amber depths.

"Hey." he smiled sleepily then winced when he moved his neck.

"Hey. Umm, Max? Can we talk?"

Chapter 11

"So."

"So."

Max and Liz faced each other across the front room. Both were sat nervously with Liz quite literally twiddling her thumbs and Max playing with a ring on his ring finger.

"Max..."

"Liz..."

They both chuckled and Max motioned for Liz to go first. Liz took a deep breath.

"Maria told me that you know... everything. About the whole Future Max thing." Max nodded and Liz forged on. "I just... I'm sorry I hurt you Max. But I'd do it again if it meant that you could be safe. And I hate to admit it but, I'm glad it happened because I have Jay and I wouldn't trade her for the world."

When it became obvious that Liz was finished, Max stood and moved over to her. He knelt in front of her and grabbed her hands in his.

"Liz, when you left I nearly died. I think a part of me did. Every night I'd go up to your balcony and I'd fall asleep surrounded by the things that reminded me of you and I'd wake up in the morning and my heart would break again because you weren't there."

Liz was crying now and when she made to speak, Max placed a finger against her lips.

"Then one night, I went there and I found Tess there. She was on the floor crying, almost hysterical and she told me what happened. She showed me and it was like someone had taken the time to hunt down the pieces of my heart and butchered them.

Oh Liz, I was so angry with myself. How could I have asked you to go through that alone." Max pulled his ring off of his finger and handed it to Liz.

On closer inspection, she saw it had Max + Liz. We create our own destinies. engraved on the inside and she let out a sob. It was Max's wedding ring.

She made to hand it back but Max refused it.

"Liz, I would love nothing more than to put that ring back on but I won't unless you give it to me in front of the priest and God and our families on our wedding day."

Liz stopped breathing for a second and her head whipped up to look at Max. He was serious. She let out a watery chuckle.

"Did you just propose to me?"

Max nodded, his amber eyes gold in their intensity. Liz threw herself at him, knocking him back.

"Yes! I love you Max. I never stopped."

Max closed his eyes in relief and held her close to him.

"I love you too Liz. I always have. I always will."

"I now pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride."

Max swooped down and gave his wife a passionate kiss.

The crowd cheered when they refused to come up for oxygen and Michael had to pry his best friend from his sister.

Jay smiled when her Mommy and her new Daddy ran down the aisle. She was staying with her Uncle Michael and her Aunt Maria and her cousin Anna-Lise while her parents were on their honeymoon.

Life was great.

And Jay smiled.

The End
