Summary: There are aliens among the town of Roswell, two groups, both considerably different, yet both exceedingly alike. Two groups of four, bonded closely, all scared of being discovered. When these two very different groups come into close contact for the first time, their lives spin out of control, and only they can save themselves from surrendering to the darkness.
Author’s Notes: This came to me last night while watching an old Mickey Mouse episode -hey, there was nothing else on- anyway, it’s actually my very first Roswellian tale, so...behr with me here, okay?!
“Becky, watch out!” A short blonde girl whispered hurriedly at her equally short friend. “They’re coming!”
Her red-headed companion gasped loudly, and looked down, hastily straightening her blouse. Her eyes widened when flashes of black passed by in front of her, and she smiled awkwardly. She moved her hand up, and waved at the group of four passing her by. “Hi!” She sputtered out.
Four pairs of eyes casually flicked over her, and a tiny half-smile graced the perfect mouth of the semi-friendly one. “Hey.” She said, and continued walking with her group.
As soon as they were out of earshot the two girls started shrieking, and jumping up and down.
“Oh my GOD, Britt, she said hi!” The redhead hugged her friend. “Liz Parker said hi to me!” She leaned back against her locker, “I feel so.....not like such a speck of loser dust at this moment.”
They preened in front of the lockers for a moment, and then sped down the hall.
“Why did you converse with that girl, Liz?” Michael Guerin glared down at his girlfriend, “I thought I told you not to talk to them.”
“Excuse me?” Liz stared up at her boyfriend, and returned the glare. “Did you just say you ‘told me’ not to do something, and then dared to act affronted when I didn’t obey your command?”
He crossed his arms in defiance, and nodded sharply. “Yes, I did, and you know exactly why!”
“Michael, me saying hi to some nameless girl, and showing a hint of humanity is not going to bring the FBI here.”
He grabbed her, and looked around hastily. “Don’t talk about ‘them’, everyone’ll be onto us if you do!”
She shook her head, “I really don’t need this right now, and if you don’t stop hounding me about completely harmless gestures of kindness, then I might have to kick your ass.” She raised an eyebrow, and crossed her arms. “Any questions, soldier?”
He sighed, and stomped over to the nearby bleachers, and sat down. “No, your highness.” he stared at her, his anger apparent. “None at all.”
She sighed, and paced before him. “I know we all agreed to become invisible Michael, but it wasn’t supposed to turn out like this.” She shook her head, “We were supposed to blend in, not become the unattainable ‘cool’ kids.”
He glared again, this time defensively. “Hey, how was I supposed to know my plan would backfire, it’s not my fault that Roswell is filled with mindless sheep.”
“We’re supposed to be covert, Liz, but since that plan went down the drain years ago, we now need to be aloof....... keep up the persona of ‘too good to mingle with the rest of the town’.” He sighed, “You know that, and it’s bad enough you’ve become close with that...that...=human=.” He grimaced, as if the word left a bad taste in his mouth.
“Is Mr. Conspiracy Theory acting up again, hun?” The amused, feminine caused the two to turn and stare as a blonde female and a brunette male walked up to them.
“Yeah, Tess, he’s lecturing me about Alex yet again.”
Tess Harding sighed, and tightened her grip around her boyfriend, Kyle Valenti. She stared into the face of her best friend, Liz, and her brother, Michael.
“Michael, how many times have I told you?” She glared up at him, “Lay off the leader, she doesn’t need you adding stress.”
“Yeah, Mikey, try backrubs, they always work for me.” Kyle grinned up at his best friend, and laughed at the now interested face.
The four broke into laughter as Michael hastily pulled Liz into the cradle between his knees, and ran his hands up under her shirt.
“Whoa there, cowboy, better warn a girl before you do things like.....tha...t.” Her voice ended in a groan, as Michael’s magic hands ran across her aching muscles. “Ugghhhhh...this is better than sex.” She purred.
Suddenly the magic stopped, and Liz turned back to stare at Michael. He was pouting petulantly, and she grinned widely.
“Oooh, did I hurt your poor, little ego, Mikey?” She teased, “I’m so sorry.” Crawling into his lap, she ran her hands across his broad shoulders, and whispered into his ear. “I’m joking, nothing’s better than sex with you.”
“Liz!” She turned at the sound of her name, and saw a brunette waving frantically at her.
“Alex!” She jumped off Michael’s lap, and jogged down the bleachers, her arms wrapping around a tall, lanky boy.
She ignored the angry growl from her boyfriend, and pulled Alex over to a nearby tree, so they could talk away from the crowd. She smiled up at him, misinterpreting the glow in his eyes as he stared down at her.
“So what’s up?” He grinned. “Anything new with you, like say.....college-wise?”
“Of course I did, it’s not everyday my Liz gets into such a prestigious school.” He beamed proudly at her. “Harvard Liz, that’s so great!”
“I know, it’s just.......” She sighed. “I don’t know if I can go.”
“What!” He shouted, quieting when he noticed the glare she gave him. He continued on more softly, “Liz, it’s been your dream since forever, you’ve gotta go.”
She stared down at her hands, wringing them nervously. “There are just some things......some things that are unavoidable.”
“I’m guessing the very pressing issue of leaving her oh-so-very-special boyfriend.” The sarcastic voice from behind them was intrusive, breaking up the companionship Alex and Liz enjoyed.
Isabel Evans glared at the two friends, arms crossed in anger.
“Alex, we need to be elsewhere.” She scowled pointedly at him. “Now.”
Liz stood, lending Alex a hand, and they smiled at one another.
“So I’ll see you later, Lizzie?” Alex asked hopefully, eyebrows raised in question.
She nodded, smiling softly now. “Yeah, later.” She hugged him once more, and turned towards Isabel. “It was so nice to see you, Izzy.”
The blonde glared angrily at Liz, and turned, stomping away.
“Sorry about that, Liz.” Alex apologized. “You know how she is.”
“Uh-uh, Alex, see ya.” And with that she walked away, oblivious to the yearning stare Alex threw at her back before he hurried along after Isabel.
“What were you doing, Alex?” Isabel’s voice was filled with anger, and the tiniest hint of despair as Alex finally came to walk beside her. “Why were you talking to Liz Parker, I thought we all told you to cut that off.”
“Screw that, Iz!” Alex countered furiously. “Liz is one of my oldest friends, and I’m not going to let you guys mess up our relationship.”
“What relationship?” She spoke harshly. “You’re never going to be with her the way you want, never, she’s happy with Michael Guerin.”
“You’d think differently if you knew what is was like to want someone, and have to watch them choose someone else.”
She stared down at him, something lurking beneath her cold glare. “You’d be surprised.” she stated softly, “Does Liz even know how you feel about her? No.” She shook her head. “And she’ll never know.”
“Never know what?” A happy voice said from behind them.
They turned to see Maria DeLuca and Max Evans, the last two members of their quirky circle.
“Yeah,” Max echoed, more somber. “Never know what?”
“Nothing important.” Alex shook his head, glaring at Isabel to shut up.
“Oh Alex was just regaling me with tales of the lovely Liz Parker.” She made a face, “And you know how much I love that.”
Maria stared at her best friend in sympathy, she knew how much the beautiful blonde loved Alex, and hearing about his Liz Parker obsession was never easy for Isabel.
Max, on the other hand, glared inwardly at his brunette best friend, but he couldn’t blame Alex for wanting the beautiful girl.
“Well,” Max said aloud. “Alex knows that can never be, because Liz Parker is a =human=.”
“And we’re not.” Isabel finished.
“So we’re going to stop talking about it.” Max stared down at Alex. “Now.”
The smaller boys eyes darkened in anger, but he nodded. “Yes, you’re majesty.” He grumbled, arms crossed.
“We can’t think about things like that, Alex.” Maria offered softly, compassion taking over her fear. “We can’t get involved with humans.”
“I...I can’t deal with you guys right now.” Alex whispered quietly before walking back across the field, and into the school.
“You can’t do that to him, you guys.” Maria said. “You can’t act like everything he wants, everything important to him means nothing because it’s not alien.....like us.” She sighed, then followed the path Alex had taken.
“I hate this!” Isabel whispered harshly. “I hate hurting him like that, when all I’m trying to do is make him see........he’s my destiny, and I can’t even tell him.”
Max’s expression softened, and he gathered his sister in his arms. “It’s gonna be okay, Iz, I promise.”
“I wish I could believe that, Max, but every day it’s just gets harder and harder to hide.”
They stayed their for a few moments, before heading back into the school.
“So, have fun making time with =Alex=?” Michael asked his girlfriend when she returned.
“Yeah,” She said, amused. “As a matter of fact, I always do.”
He glared at her for a moment, before turning away from Liz, pointedly ignoring her.
“Michael, why do you always get so jealous of Alex.” She laughed lightly, propping her head on his shoulder. “He’s just a friend.”
She wove her hands around his waist, placing a puppy dog expression on her face, as Kyle and Tess looked on in amusement.
“But I wuv you!” She whined jokingly, before leaning down to whisper in his ear. “And I fuck you, not Alex.....” She teased, laughing again when he let out a slow breath, and turned, p[ulling her into his lap once more.
“I guess.” He answered grouchily, but a smile was slowly starting to grow on his face when he caught sigh of her adorably chastened countenance. “Alright.” he said, before hugging her close.
“Aww, aren’t they precious.” Kyle snarked, sharing an entertained glance with Tess.
She nodded, before turning to Liz and tugging on her arm. “Come on, Queeny, we’re gonna be late for Biology.”
Liz reluctantly pulled away from Michael, taking a moment to peck him on the lips. She swung an arm through Tess’ and they both wiggled a wave at their boyfriends before walking towards the entrance to the gym.
Michael looked at Kyle.
“So she has no idea that Alex Whitman wants her.”
Kyle shook his head.
“Well, let’s keep it that way then.”
Kyle nodded, then burst into laughter.
“Are you laughing at me?”
Kyle nodded again, laughter still bubbling forth.
“That’s fine then.”
Kyle shook his head. “Man, does she have you whipped.”
Michael nodded, “yeah.....I like it when she uses whips.”
“What!” Kyle stopped laughing, and stare dup at his best friend in shock and horror. “Liz, you and whips......uggghhhh.” He shivered.
Michael smirked, but his eyes were elsewhere. Resting on his girlfriend’s disappearing form, eh smiled inwardly, wondering how he’d gotten so damn lucky.
He had Liz, he had kick-ass powers, he had his own little family of four, and there didn’t appearto be any signs of the FbI as of late.
Life was good.
He just hoped it stayed that way.
Should I continue?
