Chapter 1- Liz’s Apartment

“Hurry up Liz, we are going to be late. Maria is going to be pissed if we are late for the party.” Max said. “Wait a minute! Hold your horses. Maria would not mind if I was fashionably late.” Liz said as she was putting the finishing touches on her makeup. Not too much, settle is best. she thought. Should I wear my hair up or down? What does it matter! I am graduating! Liz finally finished I the bathroom and walked out to face Max. “You should know better than to rush perfection.” Liz said with a smile. “Well in that case, you need to go back in the bathroom for the rest of the night.” Max said with a chuckle. “You!” Liz said and punched him on the shoulder.
“You are so lucky that you are my best friend, otherwise I would kill you for that comment. On another note, how do I look?” Liz said as she twirled around. She was wearing jeans that hugged her curves perfectly, a light silver halter-top, and silver high-heeled sandals that matched perfectly with the halter top. Liz pinned her hair up to add the spice to her outfit. “Great. I hope that the brainless bonehead will love it. If he would keep his lips off of the liquor bottle long enough. Shit, he did not even have the common courtesy to escort you to the graduation party.” Max said with a huff. “I know that you do not like Marcus, but try to get along. He is my boyfriend, and you are my best friend. Besides, I am sure that Marcus wanted to take me to the party, but his mother came into town this week for graduation and he is visiting with her. He said he will meet me there.” Max looked at her unconvincingly as she went on. “You know, Max I am an adult. You don’t have to worry about me. I have been a pretty good judge of character so far, I have you for a friend. Now stop talking about me. We both are graduating. We are going to the same law school. We should be celebrating.” Liz said as she gave him a hug. “I am sorry for being overprotective. I just worry about you. I promise that I will not call Marcus an asshole out loud. Scouts honor” Max said as he held up two fingers. “You were never a boy scout you jerk.” Liz said laughing. “I could have been. I can tie one hell of a knot believe me. Come on, let’s get out of her before Maria and Michael send a search party looking for us” Max said as he opened the door to Liz’s apartment and walked out.

Chapter 2

Liz knew that Max was only trying to be protective. They met their freshmen year at NYU in speech class. The class had to do a debate project and she was paired with Max and two other classmates. The topic chosen was the death penalty. The other classmates were for it, Max and Liz were against it. Liz was amazed by the way that she and Max clicked. After the class ended, they became best friends. There were times when she thought of him as more then a friend, but Max had never made it known that he was interested in her other than a friend. Liz later realized that being in anything other than a friendship would be too risky. She valued her friendship with Max too much. If is wasn’t for Max and Maria, she would be lost. Then came Marcus Healy. Although she doesn’t see him as husband material, she loves Marcus. After all, she did lose her virginity to him. He is cute, ambitious, popular, and out of all of the girls who are literally throwing their panties in his face, he wanted her. Simple Liz Parker.
Max and Liz finally reached Maria’s house. Just as they stepped out of the car, Maria walked up to them “It’s about time you guys showed up. I have guys puking on my lawn and stank girls doing a strip tease on my coffee table. I swear, I will kill someone before the night is over. I will have to attend my college graduation wearing a orange jumpsuit.” Maria said holding her head. Maria looked over to Max. “Michael has already started without you. If you can pull him away from his new date that he ditched me for.” Maria said rolling her eyes. “Who!” Liz exclaimed.
“The keg of beer that is sitting in kitchen. Since it was delivered, it is the only thing that he has noticed. I am telling you, if we were to ever end up getting married, I will make him miserable for the rest of his life!”
Liz laughed. Maria was always so high strung. She throws these wild parties and expects college students to be on their best behavior. WRONG! Maria has always been the most flamboyant of the bunch. Since her mom left and moved to Florida with her new husband three months ago, there has been a party at least six times, all ending up in disaster. “Just calm down Maria. Did Marcus show up yet?” Liz asked. “No, but his football buddies are in there spiking the punch bowl. Okay, I have calmed down.” Maria said as she took a deep breath and faced the house. “Let’s go in and have some fun. We are seniors!” Maria grabbed both Max and Maria by the arm and walked towards the house.

Chapter 3- Maria’s house 2 hours later.
“Max, you girl looks bored.” Michael said. Max waved his hand close to his face to fan away Michael’s drunken breath. “Dude, the next time that you decide to take a drink, bring breath mints with you. Read my lips, don’t leave home without them!” Michael laughed. Max looked over at Liz. She was standing in the hallway nursing a beer waiting for her boyfriend to show up. God! What a jerk! Liz walked over to him. “Max, could you do me a favor, could you take me over to Marcus’s dorm room? I am getting worried.” Liz said. “Sure, no problem” Max said and walked her out of the house. “I hope that he is okay. I mean, he did not beep me or anything.” Liz was letting all kinds of ideas run through her head and it was starting to make her worry even more.
The ten minute ride to Marcus dorm room seemed like hours. Liz rushed out of the car and into the building. Max quickly ran behind her. “Is Marcus Healy in his room?” Liz asked the two men who were on the couch watching television. “Hey, Liz. Yeah, I think I saw him go into his room about two hours ago.” One of the guys said. Before he could finish his sentence. Liz was off to his room. When she got to his door, she proceeded to open it. The strange moaning sounds coming from his room caused her to stop dead in tracks. Liz opened the door and saw her boyfriend stark naked lying on his back with some blond riding him like he was a Harley Davidson.
“Oh my god!” was all Liz could say. She was total shock. Max finally caught up with Liz. Marcus still did not realize that he had company until the girl screamed and jumped off of him, grabbed her dress and ran out of the room. “Oh shit!” Marcus said and got off of the bed and grabbed a towel. “How could you do this Marcus? If you were interested in other women, you could have just said something. I gave something to you that was priceless and precious, and you disrespect me like this?” Liz shouted. “Look Liz. I liked you a lot, but I never ask for anything long term. You are always so serious all the time. We are college students, not grown ups. I am sorry to have hurt you, but I am not ready to settle down. I need to spread my wings and fly.” Marcus said crossing his arms over his chest.
Liz looked at Marcus. “You are right. It is good that one of us decided to take action.” She said very calmly. “Now it is my turn.” With that, Liz kicked him in his groin and punched him square in the jaw. “You son of a bitch! You can take you wings and shove them up your ass! It is over!” Liz attempted to lunge at him again, but Max held her back. “Wait a minute Liz. He is not even worth it. You don’t want to stoop to his level.” Liz backed away and walked out of the door. “Thank man. Damn, women can get testy over nothing.” Marcus said as he scrambled to his feet. “I was right about one thing, Liz is beneath you, but I am not.” With that, Max punched so hard in the jaw that he knocked him out. “Sleep tight.” Max said to the sleeping Marcus and shut the door.

At Liz’s Apartment
“Here you go, two beers courtesy of yours truly.” Max said as he waked over to the couch and handed Liz a beer. He knew that snake was up to no good. He is not going say I told you so, no, tonight he is going to be there to listen. “Thanks. Max, why is the room spinning?” Liz said giggling. “Geez woman, you only had three beers. No more okay!” Max said laughing. Liz laughed. Suddenly, her smile faded. “I can’t believe that I spent two years of my life with that jerk. You what my problem is, I am definitely too trusting. You know, I think that I am a fairly good person. Why does like this always happen to people like me? Why can’t nice guys finish last?” Liz said. Good question. Max thought. If could answer that question, then he would probably figure out why Liz wanted Marcus instead of him. He looked at her. God, I wished that I could take the pain away. I would give my right arm to be able to hold you in my arms and tell you that it will be all right. To be able to tell you that you don’t need Marcus. I love you more that you could possibly know. “Max!” Liz said. Max snapped out of his train of thought. “I thought that I lost you for a minute. What are you thinking about?
“I was thinking that Marcus was a fool to hurt someone as beautiful as you. Your beauty shines inside and out. If I were Marcus, I would hold on tight and never let you go for the rest of our lives.” Oh my god! Where did that come from? Too many beers. Max thought. Obviously, Liz was thinking the same thing, because she was totally shocked. “I didn’t realized you felt that way.” Liz whispered. She leaned over and planted a soft kiss on his lips. She moved in closer to deepen the kiss. Max welcomed the kiss as he gently cupped her face to deepen the kiss further. Liz never thought that a kiss could be so electrifying, so arousing. She could do this forever. Liz gently pulled away and looked into his eyes. Her eyes filled with passion. “Max, I don’t want to be alone tonight.”
“Are you sure?” Max said. Deep down he knew that he should stop, he wanted her so much and for so long, that is seemed impossible. The kiss made him feel like he was in heaven. “I have never been more sure of anything in all of my life.” Liz said. She stood up and began to undress. She slowly began to unbutton her jeans and slid them down her hips, exposing her flat belly. Max mouth went dry. She then proceeded to take off her top. Liz stood there before him naked. It did not even bother her that she was naked and he was fully clothed. She was wanted him now. Max stood up, picked her up and carried her to the bedroom. The room was dark, but just enough light shined though the bedroom window so that Max could see Liz’s beautiful body. He guided her toward the bed and watched as she lay gently on the bed. “You are so beautiful.” Max whispered to Liz. Both were trembling with desire

Liz closed her eyes as a trembling wracked her body when she felt his mouth follow the path of his fingers, fingers that feathered up her inner thigh and lingered near her gentle spot. Bracing both hands on her inner thighs, spread her legs apart and drank the drink of a man dying of thirst. His tongue was relentless, not stopping until she was screaming his name and shuddering in total ecstasy.

She moan softly as when he moved up to kiss her, deeply and with passion. Max eased her legs apart and settled his body within the cradle of her femininity. She gasped as he entered her, with one forceful thrust. “I’m sorry. Did I hurt you?” Max whispered against her lips. “No. Don’t stop. Please.” Liz begged. With every thrust, both Max and Liz thought that they were in heaven. Neither one considered the consequences of their actions or what will happen once the sun rises.

Early morning sunlight crept through Liz’s bedroom window. She slowly opened her eyes and clutched her head. Damn! Who it me with a hammer! Liz thought as she rose to a sitting position. She looked to her left. Max! What was he doing in my bed naked! Then she smiled when remembered the night of passion they both shared the night before. The night that they shared was unlike anything she had ever felt. She had fallen in love with him in one night. Her smile slowly faded. What is going to happen if he does not feel the same way? She could not handle another rejection, especially one by her best friend. She would rather have him for a friend then to go into a relationship, have it fail and lose him for a friend. She must let him know now before she lose her nerve.

“Good morning sunshine.” Liz whispered in Max’s ear. Max slowly opened his eyes. Just looking at him broke her heart. How am I going to walk away from him? “Good morning beautiful. I thought that I would be awake before you so that I could make you breakfast but it looks like you beat me to it. So, I would like me eggs over easy, and my toast buttered, not burnt.” Max said with a chuckle. Liz playfully punched his shoulder. “You are such a jerk!” “So Liz, about last night....” Max started to say but Liz cut him off. “That is what I wanted to talk to you about. Max, what we shared last night was beautiful and I will never regret it. I need to work some things out in my head. Things that I need to work out with you as my friend, not my boyfriend. I care about you too much to turn you into the rebound boyfriend. I.....just care about you too much. I hope that you understand.” Liz explained. The words that came out of Liz’s mouth gutted him like a knife. How could he be so insensitive! Just last night she caught her boyfriend with another woman, and the same night I jumped her bones. It doesn’t mean that her words hurt any less. Max had loved Liz since they first met in class freshmen year. He never thought that he would love her any more until last night. A night that was the happy night of his life. It turns out that this will be the worst day of his life.

“Of course I understand. No regrets. I value your friendship also to jeopardize it. IF you want to put on the brakes, that is what we will do. If you are ready, I will be there. If not, I will always be your friend.” Max said forcing a smile. I hope that I was convincing, he thought. Liz looked at him, surprised. Knowing that he understood did not make it any easier. It still hurt like hell. She smiled and gave him a light kiss on his lips. “So how about that breakfast?” Max said as he put his hand behind his head. “In your dreams loverboy!” Liz laughed and threw a pillow at him.

Chapter 4-Waldorf’s Department Store one day before Graduation

“Liz! What is wrong with you? You have been in a daze all day. Are you okay?” “Yeah sure.” Liz said as she snapped out of her daydreaming gaze. “I was just trying to figure out what I am going to wear tomorrow. There is so many outfits to choose from.” Maria walked over to Liz and sat down next to her on the bench. “That is bullshit. You have been since you picked me up. Is it about that asshole Marcus? Just give me the word, and I will go over to his room with my Babe Ruth and start something. No one hurts my best friend and gets away with it.” Liz looked at her friend with such sadness and hugged her tightly. “Chica, what’s wrong? Please tell me.” Maria said. “I’m pregnant.” Liz said with a sob. “Oh my god, when did this happened? Does Marcus know?” Maria said. “No Maria, Marcus does not know. In fact, it is not Marcus’s baby. It belongs to Max.” Maria’s jaw dropped. She put her finger in her ear as if she was unclogging her ear. “Did I hear you right? The baby belongs to Max! Did you forget to tell me something?” Liz sighed. “To make a long story short, we slept together the night that I caught Marcus with the other girl. I found out a couple of days ago, and I thought about other options. I realized that I couldn’t do it. Maria, what am I going to do!” Liz sobbed as she put her head on Maria’s shoulder. “It is okay. Everything will be okay once you tell Max. I am sure that he will be responsible.” Liz jumped up. “No! Max is to never know about this! I don’t want to ruin his life with this. If I told him he would forget about law school, marry me out of obligation for his child. Eventually, he will regret it. I can’t do it to him. Promise that you won’t tell him Maria!” Liz said as she grabbed Maria shoulders. “I won’t tell him chica, but you will tell him in another 8 months when your belly is in your face.” “Well, I will tell him that the child belongs to Marcus. Please, I don’t want to ruin his life.” Liz said. “Okay, Okay Liz. Let me ask you something. You are so worried about Max’s life, what about yours? What are you going to do?” Maria said and gave her friend a hug.

“I don’t know Maria. I honestly don’t know”

Chapter 5-Graduation Day

Max walks toward Liz, picks her up and twirls her around. “Finally, we are free! College days are over, next stop NYU law. I that we are going to have the same classes together, so I will make you a deal. If you promise not to follow me around like a love sick puppy, worshiping the ground that I walk on and I will promise to be your studying partner. It would be too embarrassing considering that we will be law students.” Max said jokingly. Liz flashed a smile but Max was not convinced that she was happy about graduating today. “Walk with me Max.” Liz said as they walked away from the crowd of students hugging their parents, rejoicing that this day is finally here. “Listen Liz. What do you say that go and paint the town red, as friends of course.” Max said as he held his hands up. God, he is so cute. Snap out of it Liz, you can do this. “I can’t tonight Max. I have some things to take care of. My parents went to my dorm room. They are going to help me finish packing. Besides, are going to spend the rest of the day with your parents?” Max’s smile slowly diminished. “I have nothing to say to my father, and my mother, well, she doesn’t mean to but she still cannot get over what my father did to her.” “Max, I know that you are angry at your father for having an affair, and I also know that you put your father up on the pedestal. You also have to understand that he is human and he made a mistake. Granted, it was a huge, stupid mistake, but a mistake none the less. Just give it time.” Liz said as she put her hand one his shoulder. “The possibility is highly unlikely. He lied to me and my mother for a whole year. The only reason why he was sorry is because he was caught.” Max slightly turned away, indicating his lack of interest in the subject. “Max, I have something to tell you.” Liz swallowed hard. “As you know, we were both accepted at NYU Law and we were probably major in Family Law. We may start school at the same time, but we will not finish school together.” Max looked confused. “I am pregnant.” Max choked on his breath. “Are you serious!” he choked. “Why didn’t you talk to me sooner?” He took her in her arms and held her. “Don’t worry, we will work it out……” Liz pulled away and looked into Max’s eyes. “The baby is not yours Max.” Max stopped dead in his tracks. “Are you sure?” Max said. “Yes I am sure. We were together a couple of week ago and I am five weeks along.” Max stared at her as if he was reading her thoughts. “Still, even if the baby is not mine, I am willing to help in any way.” Max looked at her with sincerity and love in his eyes. He wanted to tell her that he loved her and that he was willing to do anything, rob, cheat, steal to make sure that she and the baby were well taken care of. He did not want to take the chance she did not feel the same way or she was still heartbroken over her relationship with Marcus. “Does Marcus know?” Max said. “No and I want it to stay that way. It would not make any difference if he knew or not.” For his sake, I hope that he believes me. Liz thought. “I am here if you need me.” Max gave another hug. Please forgive me Max. I am only doing this because I love you so much. Liz thought with tears in her eyes.

Chapter 6-Five and half years later-Liz’s Apartment

“Jazzy, are you finished in the bathroom sweetie?” Liz said patiently waiting for her daughter to emerge from the bathroom. Geez, she is only five and a half years old and she is already hogging the bathroom. Liz should be used to it by now. She was banned from the bathroom since Jasmine was potty trained. God, where is Maria! Today Liz is supposed to start her job at Middleton & Towson Law firm. It was not an easy trip to get here, but she finally made it. Thanks to night school, Liz was able to finish law school. I just hope that I can cut it as lawyer. She thought as she glanced at her watch. I am going to kill Maria! She was supposed to here ten minutes ago to take Jasmine to school. “If she is not here in five minutes, I am going to………” just as Liz was about to finish her sentence, Maria walks through the door. “Hello, is anybody home? I am here to pick a little girl named Jasmine.” Maria said walking through the house. “Hey, Maria. I will be ready as soon as Princess Stephanie is finished in the bathroom. The door opens, and Jasmine walks out. “Relax Mom. Beauty like this takes time.” Jasmine said with a smile and walked awayto her room. Liz and Maria stood there is awe. “Who told you that?” Liz said. Jasmine pointed to Maria and said, “Auntie Maria.” Liz pointed to Maria. “No more weekend trips to your house. You are turning my child into a delinquent. The two of you could be twins. If anyone would see the two of you on the street, they would swear that you were her mother.” Liz said jokingly. Jasmine came out of her room into the living room. “Ready Auntie Maria” “Can I help it if my charms and personality rub off onto that precious little girl?” Maria said as she picked Jasmine up and gave her a hug. “Besides, we make a great team. For example, when we go shopping, everything that I try on, she says that I look good in. It’s great. Seriously, have you found a date for my wedding? It is Saturday you know?” “Maria, I actually thought about going alone. I really don’t want the hassle of a date right now. If it goes bad, I will forever remember the awful date that I had on your wedding day. I do not want to connect the two. If it turns out to be a good date, I don’t want to give the guy false hopes that it would turn into anything more” Liz said. Maria followed Liz as she walked into the living room. “That is not true Liz. The real reason that you do not want a date and the real reason why you have not dated since before Jazzie was born is because of a certain person. Now for the last time, either you do something about it, or move on.” “Wow Maria, you sure do have a way of putting things.” Liz said sarcastically. “It is too late anyway. I had my chance and I blew it.” Liz said in a voice of regret. Liz put Jasmine’s coat on and her backpack on her shoulder. Liz knelt down to face Jasmine. “I want you to be a good girl today okay? Now, aren’t you forgetting something?” Liz said as she pointed to her cheek. Jasmine wrapped her arms around her mother’s neck. “I love you Mom.” “I love you too.” God, what would her world be like without her? The doorbell rang. “I’ll get it.” Liz said as she walked to the door putting on her coat. Max was standing there in his normal business suit, holding a small white box with a pink ribbon wrapped around it. “Max, it is about time you arrived. I was about to drive myself” “Sorry, I had to buy something for someone. And there she is” Max said as she walked over to Jasmine and picked her up into his arms. “Uncle Max! I’ve missed you. I haven’t seen you in these many days.” Jasmine said and held up ten fingers. “You little angel, it has only been two days.” Max held up two fingers. Jasmine looked at the present in Max’s hand. “Is that for me?” “Sure is angel.” Jasmine opened the present. Inside the white box was a black velvet box. Jasmine opened the box. They were gold earrings in the shape of angels. “Wow! They are so pretty. Thank you Uncle Max.” “You are welcome angel.” Max glanced over to Liz. “Are you ready?” “Ready as I will ever be.” Liz said with a sigh. Max put his hand on Liz’s shoulder. “Don’t worry. I know that you are nervous because it is your first day, but every thing will be fine.” Max and Liz looked into each other’s eyes. It was impossible to ignore the chemistry that was going on between them. Maria shook her head. What in the hell is going on between them? Why don’t they just get together, screw or something? They will both be better off. Maria thought “Ahem. I hate to break up your conversation, but we have places to go.” Maria said pointing to Jasmine and then to herself. “Liz, good luck on your first day. Max, don’t forget the tuxes and on by the way, since you are the best man, please instruct my husband-to-be to be on his best behavior. “I promise Maria. Cross my heart and hope to die.” Max made the imaginary cross over his heart. “Wrong side Max. I am warning you. If you cross me, it will not be pretty. Let’s get ready for school darling.” Everyone walked out of the door. Jasmine went with Maria, and Liz walked to the car with Max. “Bye Mom, bye Uncle Max.” “Bye” They both said simultaneously. “Thanks Maria for taking Jasmine to school today. I owe you big time” “That is okay honey. If you really want to pay me back, you will think about our conversation.” With that, Maria got into her car with Jasmine and drove away.

Chapter 7

“Well, here it is, now or never. You need a date for the wedding, Max is a friend and he is eligible” she thought. “Bullshit!” Liz heard a voice in her head saying. “You are hoping that when he is with you, he will take one look at you in your fabulous dress and drop to his knees. And then you will live happily ever after and even get laid in the process.” It was true, she may be a career woman and a single mother, but she is a woman after all. She has not felt like a woman in a long time. She looked over at Max. He graduated law school at the top of his class, and he an exceptional lawyer Every time she thought about the guilt over not telling him truth about Jasmine, she convinced herself that it was for the best. He would have missed out on his success and he would have blamed her for trapping him. As much as she loved her daughter, it was tough raising her and getting a law degree. She worked part-time, went to school at night. If it wasn’t for Maria, Michael and Max for helping her to get this job, she probably would not have made it as a lawyer. “Max, I was wondering if you have a date for the wedding on Saturday? I mean, we’re right? I thought maybe we could go together?” Liz said stumbling over her words. “Actually Liz, I have a date. I overheard Maria talking to Michael about setting you up on a blind date for the wedding, and considering that you will have a date and I wouldn’t, I asked someone.” Max said. “I don’t have a date. Maria tried, but I didn’t want to take a chance that he would be a jerk and ruin the day. I already know that you are a jerk, but at least I know what I am in for.” Liz said teasingly trying to hide the disappointment in her eyes. “Ha, Ha. You are a regular comedian do you know that? But seriously, it is just one date. She is the one that asked me.” “Max, you do not have to tell me. I am your friend, not your keeper. You can date whoever you want.” Liz quickly wanted to change the subject. “So what are the people like at the firm? I met them briefly during my interview, but I had the feeling that everyone was quite friendly.”

“James Middleton, the senior partner at Middleton and Towson, is fair yet hard-nosed. He will tell you the truth even if you do not want to hear it. He knows the law and he cares about the people. I admire him for that. He taught me every thing that he knows.” Liz could tell by the look on his face that Max was thinking about his father. They both sat quietly the rest of the way to work.

Max introduced to her new coworkers and one of the partners at the firm, James Middleton. He was not there when she was interviewed, but seemed interested in meeting her. James Middleton was a good-looking man for his age. At 60, he stood at 6”2, stocky build, silver hair closely cut. His office was huge. The walls were covered with degrees, diplomas and pictures of his wife and family. “Good morning Elizabeth. I am sorry we did not meet during the interview, but according to Gregory and your resume, we both agreed that you would be a brilliant asset to this firm. I am sorry that Gregory could not be here on your first day, but he had a meeting with a client that could not wait. I am sure that Maxwell introduced to everyone.” James looked at Max and Max nodded his head yes. “Well then, I will show you to your office. There you will meet your assistant, Cynthia. Max, I can take it from here. I would like for you to meet me back here in my office at 10 sharp” James said to Max. “No problem. Is it about the Tanderson case?” “No, nothing like that. I will explain to at 10 o’clock.” “Sure.” James smiled, and walked out of his office. Liz turned to look at Max. Max gave her a wink and a smile. “Good luck.” He whispered. She gave him that “I’ll need it” look and walked out of the office to catch up with Mr. Middleton.

James and Liz finally reached her office. It was half the size of James Middleton’s, but at least it had a window. Suddenly a tall, thin woman with long auburn hair walked into Liz’s office. “Liz, this is Cynthia Rhodes. She will be your assistant. She is highly qualified and a hard worker.” Liz extended her hand out to Cynthia. “It is nice to meet you Cynthia.” “It is nice to meet you too Miss Parker.” Cynthia said shyly. She looked very young, about 23 years old. “Please, call me Liz.” Liz smiled. “Okay, I will leave you to get settled into your new office. I would like for you to meet me in my office to 10 o’clock also. Just so that you know, I am going to partner you up with Evans on this upcoming case. It is only a two-day case and it will give you a chance to get your feet wet. Besides, since the two of you are friends, you should have no problem. I will have Evans bring you up to speed with the paperwork.” James said as he walked toward the door. Liz let out a deep sigh. This is going to be harder than I thought.

Chapter 8 Wedding Day

Liz, Maria, and Jasmine were in the back room of the church getting ready for the ceremony. “Liz! My hair is a mess! I am calling this wedding off! There is no way that I am going down the aisle with my hair looking like this. What if Michael is not there?” Maria exclaimed. Liz tried to tell her over and over how beautiful she was in her gown, but Maria was entirely too nervous to listen. Liz on the other hand, was not sure that her dress was appropriate. “Maria, am a the matron of honor at your wedding or the stripper at Michael’s bachelor party.” Liz mentioned a couple months ago at the bridal store. “Liz, will you just live a little. It is beautiful and tasteful. Besides, you might get lucky in this dress.” Maria winked. Her dress was lavender, slightly fitting to her curves, spaghetti strapped, with a slit on the side of the dress

“Jesus Maria, would you calm down. It is a wonder that you have a doctorate in psychology. You need a psychiatrist yourself, you are going crazy! Just calms down and take a few deep breaths.” “Aunt Maria, don’t cry okay? Your make-up will make you look like a raccoon.” Jasmine said sincerely. Liz and Maria laughed. “Thanks for the tip kiddo.” “Jazzie sweetie, we are almost ready. Go and get your flower basket and stand by the door. Mommy will be there is one second.” “Okay mommy.” Jasmine said and walked toward the table with the basket filled with flowers were. Liz turned her attention to Maria. “Maria, you have to relax. Michael will be here because he loves you and he wants this as much as you do. As a matter of fact, you two are my role models. The both of you make me believe that love exist out there. Now stop that crying and go and marry that man!” Liz demanded. “Okay, Okay. I get the picture. Thanks Liz. I don’t know what I would do without you.” She gave Liz a hug. “Don’t mention it. It is a payback for all of the favors that you did for me. Now let’s get married shall we?” Liz said handing Maria her bridal bouquet. “Let’s” Maria said as she walked toward the door and onto another chapter on her life.

The ceremony was beautiful. The way the Michael and Maria looked at each other was priceless. Liz could not help but noticed that every time she looked up at Max, he was staring at her. The way he looked at her, it was if he was seeing her for the first time. She quickly turned her attention toward the ceremony. All of a sudden, she went into deep thought. This could have been me? What if I could have said yes or told him the truth? Deep into her train of thought, she completely blocked out the rest of the world. A series of clapping and praise echoing in the church broke Liz out the state of hypnosis and back to reality.

The reception hall was filled joyous faces celebrating Michael and Maria’s union. Liz sat at the table and watched Jasmine dance with Max. Where is his date? She thought. I wonder if he is here alone. Liz stood up to walk over to Max and Jasmine. “Is there room for one more?” Liz asked the two. Max looked at Jasmine. “I don’t know. It would be a shame to give such a wonderful dancer, even though she is always stepping on my toes.” Max said to Jasmine. “I don’t want to dance anymore, I want to eat cake. Dancing is for big people. I can’t wait to take this dress off.” Jasmine said tugging at the dress.” “I cut a piece for you on the table where I was sitting. We will be leaving soon.” Liz said to her daughter. Liz looked around for children her age and found a group of them playing in the corner of the reception hall. “Or you can go over there and make some new friends. What do ya say?” “Okay, as long as that boy doesn’t try to kiss me like Uncle Michael kissed Aunt Maria. That was nasty. Can’t they shake hands?” Both Liz and Max broke into hysterical laughter. “Don’t worry, if any of those boys bother you, let me know.” Max said to Jasmine. “Okay.” With that, Jasmine ran over to the other children. “It seems as though my partner has left me. Would you like to dance with me?” Max said taking a bow. “I would love to.” Max gently grabbed Liz by waist and guided toward the middle of the dance floor. “What happened to your date?” “She was supposed to meet me here, but I guess she changed her mind. It doesn’t matter. I am still having a good time.” Max said looking into her eyes. It was hard to denying the intense chemistry that was going on between the two of them. “After the reception, if you mind, would you like to……” he was abruptly cut off by woman who stepped between them. “There you are. I have been looking all over for you.” The voluptuous, blonde haired woman leaned over to give Max a kiss on the cheek. This woman looked awfully familiar. She almost gasped where she remembered her from. “I am Tess.” She extended her hand to her. “Liz.” Liz said with a fake smile and a look that could kill. “Don’t I know you from somewhere? You look awfully familiar?” “I should be, considering that I walked in on you fucking my boyfriend in his dorm room.” “Oops.” Tess said under her breath. “Yes, oops is right.” Liz turned to Max. “Good evening. I will see you on Monday.” Liz turned on heels and left.

Chapter 9

Liz spent the later part of the evening at her computer working on notes she wrote for the case that she and Max were working on. The nerve of that jerk dating that trash! How in the world could she come to a wedding wear five inch heels and a dress that leaves nothing to the imagination. She looked like a tramp. God, thinking about Max is going to make her crazy! Stick to the case. It is less complicated. She thought. It was a simple child support case and should be over by Monday. Their client is simply asking the defendant to pay for his children. The father is making up excuses why he cannot pay. Well, he will pay, even if he has to sell flowers on the street, he will pay! Liz heard her doorbell ring. Maybe if I ignore it is will go away. She thought. Wait a minute, Jasmine is staying at the neighbor’s house tonight. It could be her. She grabbed her robe and walked out of her room toward the front door. It was Max. “Why are you here at 11:00 at night?” Liz face filled with anger. “I did not know who that was Liz. I did not even see her face that night. I am sorry if you were hurt. Can I come in?” Max asked. Liz stood at the doorway for a moment. The look on her face softened “Come in.” “I was going to call you anyway. I was working on the notes that I took yesterday and I had ideas about to start the closing argument.” Liz handed him the papers. “I didn’t come here to talk about work Liz. I want to talk about us. I know that you said that you just wanted to be friends, but after seeing you today and dancing with you, I could not just not tell you how I feel. I have to be honest.” Liz felt her jello. For so long, she wanted this moment to happen. Now that she has, she was terrified. “Don’t do this Max, now is not the time.” She whispered. “Is Jasmine here?” She shook her head no. Max closed the space between them until she feel his breath on his face. “Now is the right time. When I danced with you, I knew that was the start of something beautiful, and I am not going to let that go. I won’t let you run away from me this time. I let you get away from me in college because I was young and I had nothing to offer you. So I let you go for the moment. Now, I can honestly say that I give you anything you want. I am not just talking financially. I am talking emotionally, mentally and spiritually. The only thing that I want in return is your heart. I love you Liz.” Liz stared at Max in awe. She tried but she could not stop the flow of tears in her eyes. Max lightly brushed his lips against hers. “You already have it.” Liz whispered against his lips. The light kiss quickly turned into a deepened, more passionate kiss. Liz felt as if her world was turned up side down. Max wrapped his strong arms around her waist and held her tightly. It was obvious from the huge bulge in his pants that he wanted her. She felt the same way. She was through denying her feelings for Max. It hurt too much too hold them in anymore. Liz pulled away slightly to look into his eyes. Much like hers, they were filled with want and desire. “We need to take this slow. I don’t want you rush into this and you decide when the sun comes up that you made a mistake. We need to get to know each other as a couple.” Max said to Liz. He closed his eyes to try to control his need for her. “Max, look at me.” Max opened his eyes to look at her. “I have wanted this for a very long time. Not just the physical part, but to hold you and to connect with you in every way. I don’t want to wait any longer. I have wasted enough time being without you.” With that, Liz kissed him with passion and vigor. Max quickly responded by picking her up and carrying her to her bedroom.

This is my feeble attempt at a love scene. Please have mercy. (chuckles.)

Chapter 10

Max slowly eased Liz on the floor. He slowly untied the knot to Liz’s robe and eased the robe off of her shoulder, never taking their eyes off of each other. Liz sucked in her breath. She did not realize that a simple movement from Max could be so erotic. Liz stood there clad in a white tank top and matching underwear. Max kissed her, exploring her sweet, hot mouth with his tongue. His exploration slowly moved to her left ear, nibbling on her earlobe. A moan escaped from Liz’s lips, encouraging Max to go even further. Max slowly lifted the tank top over Liz’s head and tossed it aside. Max stared in awe at the flawless, petite figure that stood before him. “I think that you are a little bit over dressed. Don’t you think that we should do something about that?” Liz said with a mischievous smile as she stared to unbutton his shirt and let it slide to the floor. Liz fingertips idly roamed his beautifully sculpted chest downward to his stomach. She then unbuttoned his jeans. As she pulled down his zipper, her fingers brushed his strained arousal. A deep moan escaped from Max lips. If he didn’t know better, he would swear that she was torturing him. Liz tugged at his jeans and boxers down until they were around his ankles. Max quickly stepped out of his clothing. “There. I believe that makes us even.” Liz whispered with a smile. “Not by a long shot.” Max said as he eased her onto the bed. His hand roamed slowly over shoulders, down to her waist, coming upward stopping at her breast. He gently squeezed her left breast before taking it into his mouth. Max gently flicked, tugged, and pulled at her rosy nipple with his tongue. Liz grabbed his head, wrapping his hair around her fingers. He switched to the right breast to give it equal attention. “Max please. I need you.” she begged as arched her hips to his, aching for release from this painful pleasure that she was engrossed in. “Not yet my love.” he whispered. Max slid his hand down until he reached the waistband of her underwear. Liz lifted her hips to allow him to take her underwear off with ease. Although the strain of his arousal was almost to painful to behr, he promised himself that tonight would be about her and her alone. Her sweet and musky scent reached his nostrils and the urge to taste her come over him. Max kissed her stomach, making circular movements inside of her navel with his tongue. Liz held her breath, anticipating his next move. When he finally reached the moist, exotic treasure that he was searching for, he kissed her lips ever so gently. With his fingers, he parted Liz’s wet lips, exploring her deep pink folds with his tongue. Liz screamed his name. Liz’s moans and pleading encourage Max to go even further. He took her bundle of nerves into his mouth, pulling, sucking, gently. Liz wrapped her legs around his neck, holding him into place. “Oh God!” she screamed as the huge orgasm exploded throughout her body. Max drank of her until there was nothing left and started to make his way upward, kissing her ribs, the area between her breast, up to her neck. Unable to wait any longer, Max positioned himself between Liz’s thighs. “I love you.” Max whispered against Liz’s lips. And with that, he entered her. Liz opened her mouth, but no sound came out. Tears escaped from her eyes, overwhelmed with emotion. Max remained still, looking into her eyes, kissing her tears away. Liz arched her hips toward him encouraging Max not to stop. Their slow, sensual rhythm started to increase with vigor. Liz grasped his buttocks and wrapped her legs around his waist begging him to go deeper. “Hold me Max. Don’t leg me go.” Liz gasped, feeling her orgasm washing over her. Max felt her walls gripping his manhood like a vice. It was enough to send him over the edge, pumping his seed deep into her body. Once their breathing returned to normal, Max lifted his head up to look at her. He moved her sweat soak hair from her face. “Hi.” he whispered with a smile. “Hi yourself.”

Chapter 11

The bright sunlight that shone through Liz’s bedroom window awoke Liz from her deep slumber. Was it a dream? she thought. He question was answered when she felt a dull ache between her thighs. She turned to her side to see Max still asleep snoring softly. Liz smiled. Suddenly, as if on cue, Max opened his eyes. “Good Morning beautiful.” Max said with a smile. “Good morning yourself. Did you sleep well?” “Like a baby. How about you?” “Very well.” Liz scooted closer to Max, lying her head on his chest. “Now that this has happened, where do we go from here?” Max said holding her tighter. Liz lifted her head up to look into his eyes. “As far as we can go. Only one problem though. Isn’t there a policy about interoffice dating. I doubt that Middleton will be pleased about that.” “No he would not.” Max sighed. “There was a couple that dating within the office about a year and a half ago. Everything was sunshine and rainbows until the relationship ended. After that, they made the working environment unbearable for everyone. Middleton finally terminated both of them and created this rule. The only thing that I can think of at the moment is that we keep our relationship a secret at work. We don’t have to act like strangers either. It’s just that it will be very difficult to keep my hand off of you.” Max said as he nuzzled her neck. “Yes. It definitely will be very difficult.” Liz laughed and laid her head on his chest. So this is happiness feels like. she thought. I haven’t felt this much joy since Jasmine.....Oh my God! Jasmine! A voice inside her head was screaming at her. How could you start a relationship with so many unspoken lies. Tell him, Liz, tell him now before it is too late. Liz sat up, wrapping the blankets around herself. “Max. I have something to tell you. I don’t know how you would feel after I tell you, but it is better you know now then later. The truth is......” just as Liz was about to finish her sentence, the phone rang. “Dammit. Who in the hell is that!” Liz said as she picked up the phone. “Hello. Jasmine, hi honey. How are you doing? Are you ready to come home? Okay, I will be there in a minute. Can I speak with Mrs. Williamson please? I love you too. Hi Deborah. How did the sleep over go with Jasmine and Nancy? I can imagine. Well, I will be there in about twenty minutes. Okay bye.” She hung up the phone and got out of the bed to get dressed. Max sat up “That was Jasmine?” “Yes. She had fun at the sleep over , but now she wants to come home. I promised her that we will go to the carnival that is in town this afternoon if she was on her best behavior at the wedding. I guess she did not forget.” Liz said with a chuckle. “Do you want some company?” Max asked wondering if he had overstepped his bounds a little. “That would be nice. Jasmine would enjoy that a lot.” Max got out of the bed to get dressed. “Great. I will go home, shower and get dressed. I will then come back and we could go from there.” Max said with a smile. “Okay.” When Liz and Max were fully dressed and on their way out of the front door, Max stopped. “Liz, you were going to tell me something before. What is it?” He asked. Liz stopped cold. The courage that she thought that she before suddenly ran from her body. I will tell him. I promise. Just not today. she thought. “I can wait. I will tell you. I promise.” Liz said, guilt washing over her like a tidal wave. “Okay.” Max smiled as they both walked out of the door.
