Prologue
People moving. Going, coming. Not thinking. Just being. They never understand how lucky they are or how much I would love to be like them. They never see true pain. Never see true cruelty, true suffering, true despair or true loneliness. They don't know what's it like to wrap your arms around yourself to pretend someone was holding you, being with you, lov....I could go on, but sometimes it just gets too real and too painful. Maybe it's better for them not to know. Life is never fair. That day not only haunts my mind, but the town, my heart, my memory...
Max just took his eyes off the glittering water and back to the paper that was grasped tightly in his hand. His mind wandering had gotten the best of him again. He looked around to only see quick glances dart his way and muffed whispers. Max shifted in his sit, took a sip of coffee and acted like he was reading. They wouldn't get to him, they wouldn't break him, not today. Even if today was an off day, he would make it. He always did..he always will, by himself. The cold air whispered into his ears and and ruffled his dark hair. He didn't look up again.

Part 1
She watched the trees blend into a dark sap green wall; so symbolic of her life she thought. The bus jolted and shook Liz as it climbed the mountain hill. The annoying child infront of her kept his window open making the cold air burn at Liz's eyes and chilled her pale cheeks. "A new start, maybe it won't be so bad here. Maybe people here haven't heard of me...yeah, Liz just keep telling yourself that. Just a bunch of people who think you're gonna be easy for money or easy to fall in love with and leave..." Liz tried to perk herself up, but it wasn't working. She tried not to think of the word love or soul mates. The words Drew used so many times with her. Even if all hell came down on her here at least it was nice scenery. Getting hopes up too high was just a waste of time. Liz tried to snuggle into the stiff leather chair, but it just stuck to her and stayed stiff. What a great way to start the morning, considering she hadn't slept all that night...coffee sounded good, hell anything sounded good. Anything to think, anything to get her mind off of Drew...

K, I know that was short, but I just wanted to put up a little to see if it's worth to really write out the whole story. FB is always cool with me! -Peace

Part 2

Max's cold fingers gripped the pencil tighter as he tried to get the right shade of the tree on his sketch book. He sat in the stiff metal seat ignoring people looking at him. He had a talent to not care. His coffee had turned icey and a the number of tourists passing the coffee shop had increased. The shop was in between the river and the narrow street. Tall trees gave a nice shade to where Max sat. To be in the shadows was part of who he was; it was where he belonged. It wasn't self pity he felt...well, only a little bit.
"Thump." Max looking down to see a rock fall off his leg and roll into a pile with many more in the snow covered grass. So that's what the thumping sounds had been coming from. He looked to see three boys in the bushes snickering.
"It's all your fault!" The dirty blond yelled then ran as fast as his feet could take him down the river bank. A painful look of emotion passed through Max's brown eyes for a second, then suddenly replaced with eyes of the cold and empty.
"Hey Max. you need anything more?" A blond girl walked up to him, she was the one person who seemed to be nice to him, she was the owner of 'Pixie's Caffeine Fix'. She stood wit he a small grin playing across her lips as she looked down at his drawing. Damn he was good at that she thought.
"No thanks Maria. I'll just finish my sketch then go back to my shop." He avoided her eyes knowing he would get a worried look from her then a lecture.
"Ah, are those cheap tourists still trying to get you to make copies of your paintings so they don't have to pay as much? I can go spike their coffee if you want me to?" She grinned at him, she knew Max wasn't what everyone thought he was. He had a good heart, just hidden.
"No thanks...thanks, I've gotta go..." Max just tried to focus on something before she said something about him getting a life when a grey bus came sputtering up the road.
-----------------------------------------------------

Liz went flying forward as the bus came to a sudden halt. Well I guess that's one way to get my mind on something else she thought sarcastically as she peeled herself from the seat in front of her. God knew what was on that, only that it sure as hell wasn't natural. Hey, is that colored red or green? She just hoped that she didn't get off this bus with some kind of life threatening disease. Liz grabbed her two suit cases and headed off the hell she had come to know with two other people. The freshness of the air was priceless. The mountains could be seen over the trees draped in a perfect blue sky. She started to drag her two bulky suitcases towards the hotel when she realized all the eyes attached to her and her sharp business woman's suit. A little out of the ordinary around her she laughed. Maybe people here just need a change of thought around here. Her mind started to get dragged down again then she told herself to walk proud and and strait... Liz, don't look back, never look back. Screw them, if they don't want to see a successful and strong woman they can go screw themselves she thought. The street was littered with coffee and tourist shops. The old buildings gave a homey feeling to the small town. It was better than where she came from.
---------------------------------------------------

The whispers turned into a mass of noise as people turned to watch a beautiful, yet pissed, brown haired woman make her way across the street. It was such a small town that a new resident was the talk of the town. They knew about this girl. She had already rented a room out of the Whitman's Hotel for a year. No one had done it before so everyone was suspicous. Did she wanted to kill someone, had she killed someone? The rumors were already flying. Max tried to not listen, but it was hard not to hear parts of what they said and Maria wasn't there to keep his mind off of it.
"No, no she didn't...dumb I guess....hehe yeah....no...I can't believe" Max just snorted in disgust at they way people treated a person they didn't even know, hell look at the way they treated him, he'd lived here for a year and they still didn't know him. As the comments kept on coming Max looked back to the bus then to a beautiful creature who was walking in the light. She had a strong a determined walk to her, but Max could tell something was different about her. She had something hidden inside. Max was an observer, he could read people. He never missed things, always knew his surroundings and he knew that there was something about this woman. She walked so proud, yet she had an emptiness inside. He was the only one who noticed though. He knew she would be in hell here. A hell she would make for herself because she was running from something. Just like he was. Max sighed and looked down to his legs and thought about the day. The day it all began...
