Life in Roswell has never been normal by any means. Normal is a mom, dad and two kids and a dog, right? Well that’s what I always thought. But then again, my life has never been normal. My Mom left my dad when I was ten, I’ve never had a dog, and as far as I know no siblings. My father was once the town sheriff, but got ousted for covering for aliens. I almost had an alien for a sister, but she used her powers on me and made me a conspirator in the murder of one of my best friends Alex Whitman. By the way my name is Kyle Valenti and life sucks.

I’m captain of the football, basketball, and all-star baseball player - you would think I had it pretty good. Well, actually I did until I found out that there are aliens running around Roswell. Not the little green kind either. It all started with my Dad’s obsession that Max Evans was an alien. Of course I’m always the last to know anything around here, so I ended up getting shot by the crazy FBI agent named Pierce that was after Max and Co. Max then proceeded to save my life and now I have been dragged (against my better judgment) into the middle of this whole fiasco. As if that wasn’t bad enough I found out that Max healed Liz too. No wonder she dumped me for him. The one girl I actually care about falls for an alien with all these weird powers, how can I compete with that.

Liz Parker, all-around most beautiful, smart girl in all of West Roswell High School. The girl is a bit obsessed with science, but you can overlook that when you get to know her. She is sweet, she follows her heart, and her smile lights up the room when she walks in. It took me a whole year to get up the courage to ask her out. When she said yes, I was in heaven. For a while at least, until along came Max Evans. Boy would I ever like to chew him up and spit him out. Yeah, at first things seemed all lovey dovey between the two of them; then Tess Harding moved to town. She put Max in such a tizzy things were never the same between he and Liz ever again. Of course Liz couldn’t get past that secret hope down in her heart that Tess would vanish and all would be right again.

You see, I know this because after what the bastard Max did to me I have these powers of my own….I can see inside of people, their hearts and minds…..

Part 2

I guess before we get into the whole powers thing maybe I ought explain a little more about how bizarre life is here in Roswell. And you thought you’d heard the worst of it, well hang on cause boy are you in for a surprise.

Okay, after the whole mess with Future Max and the end of the world; Liz decided she needed some help to make Max fall out of love with her. Who did she run to but good ole backup buddy me? So, Liz comes looking for me and finds me doing what? Shooting hoops of course. Kyle, I need your help, she says. Who am I to deny this gorgeous girl anything, so I agree.

Well let me tell you getting in bed with her was hardly what I had expected. Man that could have been one sweet night for both of us, if she’d have just let me kiss her. Oh the things we could’ve done. On with the story right.

After Max showed up, looked devastated and took off I obviously knew that there was more to the story than what Liz was telling me. So as Liz was getting out of bed, I told her to get dressed that we were going for a drive.

“Kyle, I really don’t feel like doing anything right now.” she said.

“Liz get dressed and get in the car. I will wrap you up in that blanket, throw you over my shoulder and carry you if I have to. We REALLY need to talk about what just went on.” I said.

“But, Kyle…(thump, bump, umph)…PUT ME DOWN NOW KYLE JAMES VALENTI!”

“You’d better keep it down Liz; you’re gonna wake the neighborhood.”

“Kyle I can’t believe you’re carrying me like a sack of potatoes, this is so humiliating.”

“You had your chance, now get in the car.” I told her as I sat her blanket and all down next to my Mustang.

We drove out to Buckley Point that night last October, the air was kind of chilly and I ended up getting another blanket from the trunk. (Hey, I was a single, high school guy that had more than one use for a spare blanket.) We were both a lot underdressed as I remember. Liz only had on a thin, pale tank top and a pair of boy-leg shorts. I on the other had only had on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. Needless to say the later it got, the cooler it was. The temperature drops a lot that time of year especially the further out into the desert you get.

As we curled up under the blanket, I turned to face Liz. She had a far away look on her face as I began to question her.

“What is all this, Liz? You can’t just pretend to sleep with someone, and I never pegged you for the revenge type. I mean the stuff with Max and Tess has been over for months. Isn’t he still trying to get you to go out with him again?” I said.

Liz looked at me with tears welling up in her eyes. “Yyeess, but it can never happen.”

“Why on earth not?” Now remember, inside my heart is going crazy, but I’m not an insensitive jerk.

“Earth IS the problem, more precisely the end of it…Kyle, you have to swear to me that you won’t ever tell anyone what I about to tell you. Since I dragged you into this I figure that you deserve an explanation.”

“I swear.”

“Okay this is pretty unbelievable.” she said.

“Liz, we were both shot and brought back to life by an alien. Try me.” I said.

“Max from the future came to see me a couple of days ago. Saying that if I didn’t make present Max fall out of love with me it will trigger the end of the world. Something about Tess leaving and the four square being weakened. Fourteen years into the future the Skins will take over the Earth and pretty much everyone but Max and me will be killed.”

“Kyle, I just couldn’t live with all that on my head.” she sniffed.

“Wow Liz, I guess that’s where I came in right. The whole seeing us in bed together thing, was to make Max fall out of love with you.” I said, drawing in a deep breath as I carefully chose my next words.

“Liz, I want you to know that I’ll always be here for you, any way that you need me. Ask and I’ll come running. I promise.”

“Can you just hold me for a while?”

Now granted that’s not an easy thing to do in a Mustang with bucket seats, but let me assure you that hold her I did, kissed her too.

Part 3

The kiss just happened. As Liz slid over next to me, her head slipped under my chin. She looked up at me and said:

“Thank you Kyle, for understanding.”

I just nodded as I stared in her chocolate brown eyes. Our faces were so close; I just leaned in and brushed my lips over hers. It was soft and quick, for we both pulled away quickly.

I couldn’t believe what I’d just done, she finally trusted me enough to confide in me again and I almost ruined it. The thought of kissing her over and over again flooded my mind, I could think of nothing else. I wanted nothing more than to hold her and kiss her, make love to her forever.

“Liz, I…”

“Kyle don’t, it’s okay. Just hold me.” she said.

Well – at least she didn’t smack me senseless. Maybe we were making progress.

*****
Later, as we made our way back to the Crashdown Liz sat silently staring out the window. She looked so lost in her thoughts that I just let her be, sneaking glances at her occasionally.

As we pulled into the back alley below the fire escape, Liz leaned over and hugged me.

“Thank you, Kyle. You don’t know how much it means to me that you were there to help me when I needed you. No matter what happens now, it’s easier knowing that someone else knows the truth about everything.”

As I sat there staring after her, I began to get this strange sensation in my mind. My vision began to cloud and light began to narrow into a tunnel.

Liz and myself the first time we kissed, the feeling of young innocence surrounding us.
Liz and her feelings of guilt and regret as she broke up with me. Her excitement over the prospect of loving Max.

Liz’s confusion over Max and his reaction to Tess.

Liz’s mistrust of Tess.

Confusion, fear, sadness, guilt, longing…………the message from Future Max.

Liz and me and the kiss we just shared… confusion, safety………hope.

Then as quickly as the visions began, they stopped. I shook my head, what in the hell was that. If I didn’t know better I’d think that was something like the aliens were capable of. Maybe Liz would know something about this. I’d have to mention it to her tomorrow.

******

I lay awake that night trying to figure out what in the hell was wrong with me. Why did I suddenly feel so different? Almost as if I was a foreigner in my own skin, was this the result of being so involved with aliens.

Even in the midst of all my confusions, it never crossed my mind to ask Tess. After all she was too busy throwing her self at Maxxie-poo.

Chapter 4

Two weeks later~

It was late, and I was just about to switch off Sports Center. They had finished giving all the college and pro football stats, and had moved on to sports I could care less about – like rowing and golf. I stood up to stretch, and was in the midst of yawning when I heard it…the knock at the back door.

Knock…knock

It was after 11:30 at night, I knew whoever it was it couldn’t be good. I could only hope it wasn’t other worldly trouble. Why couldn’t the little green people just leave me out of it?

“Who is it?” I asked.

“Kyle, it’s me Liz. Can I come in?” she asked.

“Sure.” I said, as I opened the door wide enough for her to enter. The look on her face told me whatever was going on was not good. I could see her eyes were rimmed with red, as though she had been crying.

“Kyle, He’s going to New York…and he’s taking her with him.” She cried.

I could only assume she meant Max and Tess. “Come here.” I said, as I pulled her into a hug.

“Do you want to talk about it?” I asked, as I guided her over to the couch and tugged her down beside me.

“I was in my room studying, and he came to the window. He asked me again if we slept together….. sob…sob…hiccup …I told him ‘Yes.’ Oh Kyle, it was so hard to lie to him. Then he gave me back that stupid knife I gave him last Christmas.” She said.

Then she said in a slightly angry tone, “And do you know he had the nerve to tell me he was going to some Summit in New York and he’s taking Tess.”

“I thought that was the whole point of this Liz, to get Max and Tess together?” I asked, slightly confused. Women who really understands them.

“It is but I just never thought it would be so hard.” She said wiping the last of the tears from her eyes. “I really don’t want to go home tonight. I don’t want to be alone.” The vulnerability in her voice just about killed me. I wanted to drag Max Evans out in the street and shoot him.

“You’re welcome to stay here, or I could call Maria?” I said, think that there was nothing I would like better than to hold Liz Parker in my arms all night long.

“Would you call her for me?”

“Sure” I said.
***
Ring….ring…ring…

“Hulllooo” said a very groggy Maria.

“Hey Maria, it’s me Kyle”

“What do you want it’s like almost 1 am?” She said, peering at the red numbers on her alarm clock.

“Well Liz is here, and wants to know if she can crash with you tonight?”

“Liz, what’s wrong with her? Is everything okay?” she demanded.

“We’ll clue you in when we get there.” I said, and then hung up the phone.

“Are you ready?” I asked Liz.

“Yeah. Lets go.” She said.

After I got back from dropping Liz off at the DeLuca’s it was almost 1:30 in the morning. So I stumbled into the couch, dropping face down; not to move again until morning.

Part 5:

As I stumbled my way through the halls of West Roswell High the next morning, I silently hoped there would be no more late night outings for a while. It was going to be a chore to stay awake for my first period English Lit class, not that I didn’t sleep through that class half the time anyway.

“Kyle, wait up!” a voice called just as I slammed my locker door and turned to head towards class. As I turned to see who had called my name, Liz came up beside me and said, “Kyle can we talk at lunch?”

“Kyle, are you coming?” I recognized some of the guys from the basketball team that were in my 1st period class.

“Hey man, I’ll catch you later,” I said.

“Liz, what’s going on?” I asked her, as we walked towards class.

“Well, there’s some more stuff that happened last night that I didn’t get a chance to tell you. I wanted to fill you in,” she said.

“I’ll see you at lunch then.”

“Okay,” she said.

As I made my way into the class, some of the guys from the ball team started whistling.” “Man are you whipped,” Malamud cracked.

“What’s that about?” I asked.

“Man, Liz Parker has got you wrapped around her little finger. I heard she was good.”

That little comment set my blood to boiling. I leaned over and grabbed his shirt, leaned down so I was right in his face and said, “If you EVER say anything else bad about Liz, you won’t live to see daylight. Got it?” After that little episode, I whirled around and stormed out of class to go cool off.

I stalked into the guy’s locker room, kicking the row of faded blue lockers in frustration. Liz was my friend. Heck, why was I so riled up over her? Because, you care a lot more than you want to admit, that’s why. I knew I needed to calm down; maybe my reaction was over keel…well maybe not. Ever since the whole pretending to sleep with Liz thing, I’ve been feeling especially protective of her.

***
At Lunch~

I made my way across the quad, carrying my lunch. I scanned the crowd looking for Liz; I spotted her sitting with Alex and Maria. She looked so happy as she laughed at something Alex apparently said. I think I could watch her laugh all day long. When I got closer to the table, Liz looked up and noticed me.

“Do you want to go to the library?” She asked.

“Sure,” I said.

After we got settled in a quiet corner of the library, I was picking at the fried chicken and green beans that were on the West Roswell menu for the day. Liz finally began to speak after what seemed like an eternity.

“Kyle, I know we’ve been through a lot of unbelievable things together; what I’m about to tell you is right up there at the top of that list.”

“Oh what, like more aliens or something?” I smarted off.

“Well, yeah kind of,” she said. “There are a second set of the four, they’ve been in New York all this time. That’s how Max knew about this whole alien summit.”

“Wow.”

“Yeah, well it gets even more weird. Rath, Lonnie, and Ava showed up yesterday. I guess Zan, Max’s dupe got killed. Anyway they wanted him to go, and he did. Ava stayed, she’s Tess’s duplicate.”

“Oh great…another person fixated on Max,” I said. How did the guy get so lucky? Just what the world needed another woman in love with the likes of Max Evans.

“So I was taking out the trash this morning,” she said. “I found Ava sleeping out back in the alley. I think she’s gonna stay with me tonight.”

“Liz, are you sure that’s safe? I mean you don’t even know her.” I asked.
“I don’t know Kyle, there’s just something about her.”

I was silent as I turned over and over in my mind what Liz had just told me. Wow, it was a whole lot to take in. Just as I was finishing off the green beans, the warning bell rang. Liz and I quickly gathered up our stuff and headed off to class. I told her I’d be by the Crash later so I could check out these new “little green men.”

***
At the Crashdown~

By the time I’d finished practice and what little homework I had, it was about a half-hour until the Crashdown closed. I figured I could hang out with Liz while she closed up. As I reached the front door, I surveyed the restaurant Isabel and Liz were huddled in one of the corner booths, an intense look of concentration on both their faces. What ever was going on did not look good.

As I stepped into the now empty diner, I heard Isabel say, “It’s not working, I can’t reach him.”

“You’ve got to try again Isabel.” Michael demanded from the doorway to the kitchen.

“Isabel you are the only way,” Liz said quietly.

“I can’t,” Isabel sobbed.

“What’s going on?” I asked.

“Keep trying, Isabel,” Liz said, as she got up from the table. She motioned me over near the counter. “We’ve been talking to Ava, she said; I think that Rath and Lonnie are going to try and kill Max in New York.”

“Wow, and there’s no way to reach him?” I asked. Stuff with this crew just gets more and more out there.

“None other than Isabel.” Who was currently leaning on Michael and crying softly.

It was then that Ava entered from the backroom, grabbed a chair; and proceeded to push Liz down into it. “You can do it. He changed you, and you’re different now. You’ll have to be the one to reach him.”

My stomach clenched at her words to Liz, different how? Because however Liz was changed, so was I.

“There’s no time to explain now,” Ava said. “You’ve got to reach out to him with you mind. He’ll hear you,” she coached.

It was at that moment with Isabel’s help that Liz entered a deep trance. She stayed like that for close to twenty minutes, I was petrified. When Isabel finally came out of it, she was weak and pale. Liz never came too; she simply collapsed in the booth.

My mind began to function on overload. I grabbed Liz and bolted into the break room with her in my arms. After I lay her on the couch, I grabbed a cool rag and began to wipe at her face. A few minutes passed and Ava entered the room. She sighed, “I guess it’s time that you know.”

My mind began to function on overload. I grabbed Liz and bolted into the break room with her in my arms. After I lay her on the couch, I grabbed a cool rag and began to wipe at her face. A few minutes passed and Ava entered the room. She sighed, “I guess it’s time that you know.”

Part 6

“Time we know what?” I demanded. Liz was starting to come around now; she blinked a few times and then struggled to sit up. I held her down and convinced her that she could stand hear whatever Ava had to say in that position. “I saw him.” She said simply.

“What happened here?” I asked, more than a little confused.

“I could see him, and he could see me but he couldn’t hear me shouting. Rath and Lonnie tried to kill him. He saw me and started to come towards me. He moved out of the way just before the scaffolding and the painter’s stand came crashing down,” Liz said shakily.

“So Max is okay?” Isabel asked. Liz just nodded.

Michael ever being the blunt one, brought us back to reality by redirecting the conversation to Ava’s important statement.

“What is it you were going to say Ava?” Michael demanded.

Ava turned and walked back into the main part of the restaurant, she returned moments later with Michael, Isabel on her heels. “If I’m gonna tell this story, it’s only gonna be once,” she said.

“First maybe I’d better explain how I know all this stuff that you guys have no clue about. While Nasedo was busy running from the FBI, he did keep in contact with our protector Eru. Eru wasn’t around a whole lot once we got big enough to fend for ourselves. When we were young though, he spent a lot of time teaching us about who we are and where we come from. We always knew that you four were out here, just never needed you until now.”

“Are you telling me that Eru taught you all what Nasedo was supposed to have taught us?” Michael asked impatiently.

“Yeah, I guess so most of it anyway,” Ava replied.

“Okay, back to the story. How is it that Liz is different?” I demanded.

“Kyle, it’s just not Liz. It’s you too. If what I’ve been told about your healing is true,” She said quietly.

At that moment my jaw dropped open and I stared at Ava, piercings, tattoos and all. I could see she was willing me to believe what it was she had to say. In my worry over Liz I’d never stopped to think about myself.

“It all makes sense now,” I muttered.

“What does Kyle?” Isabel asked softly.

“The visions.”

“WHAT visions, KYLE?” Isabel and Michael demanded at the same time.

“I’ll tell you later. First lets hear what Ava has to say,” I was doing my best to change the subject, because I knew if I started telling about my visions…well Michael being Michael would root around trying to find the cause of them. If he did that, he was bound to find out about Future Max and I was determined not to betray Liz that way.

“Okay, I guess I had better start with the basics of our gifts,” Ava said, rubbing her eyes as she tried to get her thoughts in order.

“On Antar, every being has a different set and combination of giftings. One gift being dominant over the others. The male gifts are primarily more physical than the females, whose talents lie with mental power. However there are exceptions in both cases. The ability to change molecular structure is a common power between the two,” Ava paused as she took a sip of Cherry Coke, she needed a moment to gather the next part of her story.

“In our previous lives Michael you were a great soldier and Second. You kept Zan balanced. Your family has been a part of our highest military order for generations.”

“Isabel, you were as headstrong and stubborn as Zan was levelheaded. That’s part of why you and Rath never quite bonded. You were too much alike. Your gift of dreamwalking was invaluable to the cause during the war.”

“Tess and I, well our family comes from a world other than Antar. We are actually from Elan. That’s why we are able to mindwarp. Warping is very rare on your planet, when it is present it’s usually because one of the parents is from Elan.”

“Max’s gift of healing is a rare gift, it is one of the few gifts that transcend sex and generation. In your family Isabel, this gift has been present for over four hundred years. It was passed on to Zan by your Grandmother.”

“Very few Antarians are blessed with this gift and it is seen as a great honor. With this honor comes a huge responsibility that stretches to world’s beyond our own,” Ava said.

“You mean to Earth,” I said, things were finally starting to get a little clearer.

“Yes, the gift carries with it a great weight. When it is used for small wounds there is no residual effect and the injured is restored to a normal state. However, when there is a near death situation; the healing requires great amount of energy and an open connection. When this happens something irrevocable and somewhat unexplainable happens. The injured person becomes changed; the healers leave behind a part of themselves. The injured person is no longer of a pure race.”

“So when Max healed Kyle and Liz, he actually made them part Antarian?” Isabel asked.

“Yeah, that’s kind of what happens,” Ava said.

I looked at Liz who had been fairly quiet throughout Ava’s explanation. Her expression was passive, and I could see the wheels in her scientific little mind of hers whirring round and round. For me well that’s when I began to panic.

“I don’t wanna be a damned alien.” I shouted. At that moment I knew I had to get out of the Crashdown before I said things I could never take back.

As I was opening the door to my car, I heard her. “Kyle, wait up.” It was Liz.

“I really need to think right now Liz, you may have already know you were half alien. But damn it, it’s news to me.”

“We need to talk.”

“Later,” With that I jumped in my mustang and peeled out of the parking lot.

Part 7 A:

I must have driven around Roswell half the night. Ava’s words rang through my mind changed…different…not human anymore…not entirely alien. What was I gonna go? What could I do? The more I thought about it the more clear one thing became to me…if Evans hadn’t healed me I would have died that night. The only reason I’d been in that position in the first place was because he was a damned alien.

By the time I got home the clock was blinking 2:00 am. I had a splitting headache and needed to sleep in the worst way. When I walked in the door, Dad switched the light on.

“Where have you been son?” He asked me.

“Dad, I’ve been driving around town okay. I really don’t feel like talking about it right now.”

“Liz came by a while ago. She was worried about you. She filled me in on what happened, son. I’m sorry.”

“What else should we’ve expected Dad? I mean Gramps was convinced aliens existed, isn’t it fitting his grandson is one!” I smarted off sarcastically. “Look Dad, I’m sorry. It’s just been a really long night.”

“Get some sleep Kyle, and hopefully this will all look better in the morning.” Jim said.

That night I got very little sleep. I kept having this same dream over and over again. In the dream I was the little green Martian, and there were large, very ugly Klingons hunting me down. Needless to say I was up at dawn and headed out for a run.

Just as I passed the park, I saw a petite brunette running up ahead of me. After a few moments I realized it was Liz out running.

“Liz wait up,” I yelled. She turned and slowed up a moment.

“I was worried about you last night Kyle,” She said.

“Yeah, Dad said you came by and filled him in.”

By this time we were in front of the Crashdown and Liz’s run was over.

“Liz, can we talk after school?” I asked.

“I work until close tonight Kyle. If you want to come over about 9:30 we can talk after I get off.”

“Yeah, that sounds good,” I told her. I was anxious to talk to her about all we had learned, now that I’d had the time to cool off anyway.

The rest of the day at school zipped by, Max and Tess were back from New York. I know this because I saw the Pod Squad huddled in a corner of the cafeteria at lunchtime. I didn’t bother trying to invade their little group, because at this point in time I didn’t feel like putting up with His Royal Ass. Besides I knew what the conversation was about, and I had no desire to hear Ava’s little story told over again.

After practice I went straight to the Crashdown, because if I went home I knew the chances were pretty good of running into Tess.

Damn…Liz looked good tonight in that stupid little outfit….Talk, Kyle..Talk. That’s all you guys are doing tonight remember. Don’t ruin it with her, be cool.

TBC

Okay, I know this part sucked, but it’s transition and it’s supposed to! I’ll get to work on the next part really soon Sue!

Part 7 B:

Before we return to the wonderful world of Kyle, we are going to drop in on Liz Land.

Earlier the same day ~

She couldn’t believe she was running late. It wasn’t like she’d slept in that morning; after all she’d gotten in a two mile run with Kyle. As she thought back over their run, she decided she had definitely had a better run because he was with her. It helped pass the distance quicker.

Just as she slammed her locker shut and turned to head to class, Liz saw them. Max and Tess were standing in the hallway in front of his locker. To make things worse, Max seemed engrossed in every word Tess had to say. His head was bent near hers, about that time Tess gestured wildly about something and her laughter tinkered as it reached Liz’s ears. When Max laughed at whatever it was Tess had said, Liz felt the tears well up in her eyes. It was finally over. She knew this was supposed to happen, but it hurt her heart to see it actually taking place.

She couldn’t wait to talk to Kyle this evening. It was one thing that Maria knew the details of what had happened with Future Max, but she really couldn’t understand it. Kyle on the other hand had been there with her through it all, he’d been with her when she broke down and cried her eyes out.

At the Crashdown~

“Hey you’ve got a really good looking guy watching your every move Liz,” Maria said.

“Quit messing with me Maria.”

“No, I’m serious. Look for yourself,” she said.

“Where is he Maria?”

“Back corner booth.”

“Maria! That’s Kyle,” Liz laughed.

“Well he isn’t bad looking, he’s barely alien, and he IS staring at you,” Maria countered.

“MARIA!”

“What? I’m just trying to help,” she said. About that time Michael rang the bell, “Order up, Maria.”

“Go Maria. Before it gets cold.”

“Liz, this is not the end of this conversation. I wanna know what’s going on with you and Kyle. You two are hanging out an awful lot lately.”

“Well, he just…understands things,” Liz said.

“Like I don’t. Nope girl, there’s more to this than you’re telling me. I can feel it ,” Maria said with an air of confidence. She knew something was going on and she intended to find out what.

After Closing~

“C’mon Kyle, Let’s go upstairs,” Liz said after they’d finished cleaning up the restaurant.

“You can’t stay real late, but Mom and Dad won’t mind if you’re here for a while.”

“Sounds okay with me,” I said.

After we said “Hello” to Mr. and Mrs. Parker, Liz and I went out on her balcony.

“What did you want to talk to me about Kyle?”

“This whole alien thing, Liz. Are you okay with it?” I asked.

“I’m not sure I’m okay with it, but it’s a part of me now so I’m dealing with it.”

“Well part of the reason I wanted to talk to you about it is because I think I have powers,” I kind of mumbled.

“Powers…what kind? How do you know?” she asked.

“Well at first I thought they were nothing. Now that we know we’ve been changed, I’ve been thinking about it. Everything just wasn’t adding up. It all started the night I brought you home after the whole thing with Max. As you were getting out of the car, I touched your arm. When I touched you I got a vision of how all the stuff with Future Max was making you feel and everything.”

“Wow, Kyle,” Liz said. “Speaking of Max and stuff, I guess things are working. He and Tess seemed awfully cozy today.” As she said this, tears began to slip down her face.

“Come here,” I said and gathered her in a close hug. “It’s okay.”

“No, I’m going to be strong,” She said. With that she pulled away from me and wiped her eyes. “No more crying over what can never be.”

We sat there and chatted about school and Liz’s experience with her own powers for a few minutes. Just as I was about to get up to leave, Liz interrupted me.

“Kyle, I want to try something. I want you to kiss me. I know I can get flashes from hybrids and shapeshifters. I wonder if I can get them from you too,” I could see the wheels turning in Liz’s mind. And knowing me, do you think I’d turn down a chance to kiss the beautiful Liz Parker? Not a chance.

“Are you sure about this?” I ask her. I really didn’t want her to regret this, or mess up our friendship.

“What’s a kiss between friends, right?” She said.

With that I grabbed her hand and pulled her into my lap. “Kyle, to get flashes I know I have to put a lot of emotion into a kiss. I’m going to try and do that. Can you do the same?” You bet I could.

I pulled her in close and closed my eyes. The kiss was soft at first, hesitant between us, neither one knowing exactly what to expect. Her lips were just the way I remembered them, soft and smooth. She tasted just faintly of strawberries and cream. It must have been the last of some lip-gloss she’d put on during her shift in the Crash.

I wasn’t sure where this kiss was going, but I ran my tongue lightly across her lips. She parted them ever so slightly. Taking this invitation, my tongue dipped ever so slightly into the soft recesses of her mouth.

Our tongues twined together in a ritual as old as time itself. I ran my fingers through Liz’s rich, dark hair, cupping at her neck and pulling her closer. Her hands were in my hair and running down my back. The movements became more frantic as we grasped at each other. At just that moment it happened…

Flash…

Liz on her first day of school.

Liz running, as I chased her during a game of tag at recess, slowing down just a little so I could catch her.

Liz and Maria laughing and eating ice cream, talking about boys.

Liz watching me. Me asking her out.

Liz crying over Max.

Liz breaking up with me.

More tears over Max.
Anticipation, excitement, expectation as I kissed her tonight.

At just about that time, Liz broke the kiss. We both came up gasping for air. Who needs air, right?

“Wow,” I breathed, leaning my forehead again hers.

“Did you see anything?” she asked.

“Yeah, I saw you growing up. I experienced a lot of your feelings too,” I said.

“Me too,” She said.

“What did you see Liz?” I asked.

“I saw us playing together at recess. You when your Mom left. You and me together. Your anger at Max,” she said.

“What does all this mean Liz?”

“I guess it means we’re different,” she said.

“Can we keep this between us for a while, please?” As I asked this, she moved to get off my lap.

“Sure, Kyle. It’s getting late you’d better go.”

I moved towards the window. Out of pure desire at that moment I grabbed her arm and pulled her in close. I wrapped my arms around her and kissed her soundly, fully on the mouth. I just couldn’t help it. I wanted to kiss her again and again. Just as I was about to release her, my world came apart. She came up on tiptoes, wrapped her arms around my neck and ran her tongue around my ear. She planted wet, open mouth kisses along my jaw and when she reached my mouth. Well she kissed me in a way I’ve never been kissed before. She rocked my world all right.

Lets just say it was much, much later when I left that balcony to go home…
