Summary: Michael's sister comes to Earth and all hell breaks loose
‘Only a few more days, and it will be ready to go,’ thought Queen Serena as she attempted to fix the Granolith. She had worked for weeks trying to fix the damn thing. Her awful husband, Khivar, suspected nothing, or so she thought.
“Serena! Serena! Where are you?” Tess called.
“Just what I need, that idiot half breed,” Serena muttered under her breath. She stood and made the Granolith disappear, then walked toward the twit’s voice.
“I’m right here, Tess.”
Tess whirled around and icily replied, “My name is Ava, for the last time!”
Serena sighed and said, “Whatever, Tess. What do you want?”
“Your husband wanted me to inform you that there’s going to be a party tomorrow in my and Kyle’s honor. He expects you to be there,”
“Thank you, Tess. I wouldn’t dream of missing it,” Serena replied sweetly.
Tess glared at her and walked off muttering, “My name is Ava, does she not get that?!”
Serena shook her head and sat down. It had only been a month since Tess showed up on Antar, carrying Zan’s child. She’d named the child Kyle, supposedly after a boy she was close to on Terra (the correct name for Earth). At first Serena was thrilled, her best friend Ava was back, but she soon learned that Tess was nothing like Ava. Tess had betrayed Max, Isabel, and Serena’s brother, Michael. It was so hard to think of them by those names, but that was what they were called. Anyway, she just could not image how Tess could have killed their friend like that, and done all those horrible things to try and break up Max with his girlfriend. Why was Tess so different from Ava? She herself had been killed when Khivar took over their planet, but she was pretty much the same as she had been in her first life, though she was not a half-breed. The main difference between her two lives was that past Serena had liked Khivar, but her present day self hated him with a fiery passion, though she was forced to marry him. She’d actually been raised to marry him, all the years of her life. If you wanted to be technical, Serena was only 9, but she liked to think the way the half-breeds did, so she though of herself as 15.
“Psst. Serena!” a voice whispered.
She looked around and saw no one.
“Behind you!” the voice whispered again.
Serena turned around to find herself face to face with her long time lover, Larek. She grinned and threw her arms around his neck, kissing him.
Larek kissed her back, then said grinning, “Your majesty, we must be careful while we’re inside palace walls
Serena laughed and replied, “But of course my dear, aren’t I always cautious?”
Larek just smiled and shook his head. “So, how’s the Granolith coming?”
“I still need two days to fix it, but it wouldn’t take as long if I could get Rafe to help me. The child does not want to do anything to upset his father, but I’m his mother, damn it!”
As soon as the words left her mouth she regretted it. The look of pain on Larek’s face was horrible.
“Honey, I meant, who he thinks is his father,” she said slowly.
Larek looked at her and said, “When are you going to tell him that I’m his father?”
“When he, Kyle and I reach Terra. Then I’ll tell him, I promise.”
“SERENA!!!” a deep voice bellowed.
“Khivar! Damn him! I better go see what he wants. I love you, Larek,” Serena called as she took off for their bedroom.
“I love you, too” Larek murmured.
Hours later, Larek lay in his bed trying to sleep, but all he could think of was Serena. All of a sudden, she burst through the door, bruised and bleeding.
With a look of horror on his face, Larek asked, “Darling, what happened? What did Khivar do to you?”
“It wasn’t him, it was that bitch Tess! She said that she was tired of the way I treated her and that she wouldn’t have it anymore. I didn’t know how powerful she was,” Serena sobbed into Larek shoulder.
“That’s it, we have to fix the Granolith tonight so you can leave as soon as possible.”
Serena nodded and the two lovers went back to the palace. They worked through the night and fixed it just before daybreak.
“The safest time to leave would be during the party, when everyone is distracted,” Larek said.
Serena thought for a moment, then agreed. Larek had to leave for a meeting with the ruler of a neighboring planet, so Serena spent the day packing as much as she could. When the party finally arrived, she was ready to go. She put everything she had packed inside the Granolith and checked the countdown. She had thirty minutes to go. Serena ran to the nursery where Rafe and Kyle were playing.
“Come on sweetheart, we’re going to go on a little trip,” she said to Rafe as she picked up Kyle.
“Does Father know?”
“Yes, sweetie. Why wouldn’t he know?” Serena said nervously.
As they walked hurriedly down the hall, the red headed beauty sensed someone following them. Serena turned around quickly, but there was no one. She frowned and continued down the hallway and up the stairs. When they reached the hidden chamber, an arm grabbed Serena’s shoulder. She shrieked and turned around.
“Quiet! I didn’t mean to scare you, darling,” Larek said in a quiet voice.
Serena hit him upside the head and hissed, “Don’t do that, I thought someone caught us!”
Larek apologized and helped the children into the chamber. There was only five minutes left. As they embraced for what was quite possibly the last time, Serena spotted Tess approaching.
“Ah, hell. The nitwit is heading in our direction,” Serena said.
“Hello Serena. Hello Larek. What are you two up to?” Tess asked sweetly.
“Plotting your demise.”
“Very cute, Larek. Have either of you seen my Kyle? I left him in the nursery, but he’s not in there anymore.”
“Maybe he got fed up with having an idiot bitch for a mother.”
“Shut up, Serena!” Tess shrieked.
Serena glanced at her time teller and saw that she had less than two minutes to get rid of Tess. She elbowed Larek and made a motion toward Tess. Larek nodded and said, “Hey, does that man have Kyle?”
Tess turned around and ran after the nonexistent man, screaming, “Come back here with my son!”
Larek and Serena burst out laughing then embraced again.
“I love you, Serena. Don’t worry; you’ll see me in another form once you reach Terra. Watch after our son, okay?” Larek cried as he held his true love.
Serena nodded and said through her tears, “I love you, too. I’ll always love you.”
They pulled apart and Serena walked into the chamber. Moments later, the palace erupted as the Granolith shot upward, sending Larek’s only love into space. He knew that she would be safer on Terra and that he would see her again through Brody’s eyes, but his heart broke because he knew that he would never truly see her again.
As a sad Larek stood staring at the sky, he heard a gasping noise behind him and turned around to see Tess, totally out of breath.
“What on Earth was th--,” Tess started to say, then a look of realization came over her face.
“Oh my God, the Granolith. Serena took off in the Granilith…with m…my son,” Tess stammered, in total shock.
Before Larek could say anything, an angry voice boomed, “What the hell happened here? Where is my wife?”
Larek gulped and turned to face Khivar. Khivar was definitely pissed. His piercing black eyes were cloudy, his huge and powerful hands were tightly clinched into fists, and his square jaw was set. Larek couldn’t help but be scared of the man, not only were his powers strong, but he was over seven feet tall and weighed over 200 pounds. He, however, was a little over six foot and probably weighed 180.
“I, she, um, shit,” Larek stuttered.
Khivar turned to Tess and asked, “Well, Ava, can you tell me what happened?”
“Serena, she took Rafe and… and Kyle. She took off in the Granilith. Kivar, she has my son!” Tess cried angrily through her tears.
While Tess explained to Khivar what happened, Larek ran away as fast as he possibly could. ‘Damn it, Khivar is gonna kill me and it won’t be pretty. I just hope Serena makes it to Terra safely,” he thought as he ran.
Serena stood in the Granilith clutching Rafe and Kyle, while praying her ass off that she had gotten the coordinates right. ‘If I’m off by too much, we could land in a big city or on an army base. God, please let me be right’ she thought to herself.
“Mommy, are we almost there?” Rafe asked with wide eyes.
Serena smiled and nodded as she studied her son. Rafe was four years old, but impressively smart for his age. He got that from his mother. He also shared her red hair, fair skin, and dazzling smile. She, however, had green eyes, while her son had his father’s bright blue eyes. Serena could feel her eyes tear up at the thought of Larek. She prayed to God that Kivar would not kill him. All of a sudden, the skip started beeping, signaling Serena that it was about to land.
“Hang on kids, we’re landing,” she said to the two boys.
Liz Parker and Max Evans sat in his brand new Jeep Wrangler, making up and making out.
“I’m so glad we’re together again, Max. I love you so much,” Liz sighed as she held Max tightly.
Max smiled and replied, “I love you too. I just wish that things could have been different, that we never would have fought, that I never got involved with…her.”
Liz pulled back to look Max in the eyes and said firmly, “She still would have killed Alex, Max. She still would have betrayed us.”
He sighed and started to speak when he saw something coming towards them.
“Liz, look at that!”
“What is it?”
“I don’t know, but it just landed. Let’s go check it out.”
Max started the Jeep and drove to the landing site.
“Max, does that look like what I think it is?” Liz asked, amazed.
He just nodded and the two jumped out of the car and walked up to the Granilith. Without warning, the door opened and out stepped a beautiful red head holding two small children.
“Well, what do you know, I am a genius,” Serena said, obviously pleased with herself.
Rafe noticed Max and Liz and said,” Mommy, there’s two humans staring at us.”
“Shit!” Serena exclaimed as she turned to face them.
As Serena and Max locked eyes, a spark of recognition came across both of them.
Serena, dumbfounded, whispered, “Zan.”
“What did you call him?” Liz asked.
“I didn’t call him anything, I said sand. Its really sandy here,” Serena said nervously.
The human couple raised their eyebrows and Rafe gave his mother an odd look, but decided against saying anything.
“So…are you from my planet?” Max asked, since he could think of nothing else to say.
Serena thought for a moment and replied, “Well, yeah. Born and raised on Earth, just like you two, I hope.”
Max and Liz exchanged a look and Liz said, “But you landed in… a spacecraft of some kind,” deciding not to call it by its name.
‘Damn, why do they have to be smart? Why can’t they be gullible, like Tess?’ Serena fumed. “I know, isn’t it a total trip? I found it in the middle of the desert in Arizona. My dad was a mechanic and I took after him, so I figured out how to fix it. The technology is far more advanced, though. I don’t exactly know where we are, where are we?” she asked
Max studied Serena for a moment and finally said, “You’re in Roswell, New Mexico.”
“Wow, it really worked.”
“Yeah, I guess it did. I’m Max Evans by the way, and this is my girlfriend, Liz Parker.”
Serena shook their hands and said sweetly, “I’m Serena Davis. This is my son Rafe and my son Kyle.”
Rafe raised his eyebrows at his mother and mumbled, “You better explain this to me later, mother.”
“Your sons? You can’t be more than 16,” Liz said disbelievingly.
“What can I say? I didn’t feel like waiting,” Serena explained, ” I’m 15, Rafe’s 4, and Kyle is a month old.”
“Where’s the father?” Max inquired.
“Actually, he lives here. His name is Brody.”
“Brody Davis?!?!?!?” a startled Max exclaimed.
“Yeah, hence the last name Davis. I was just visiting my father’s gravesite in Arizona and was on my way here when I stumbled across the flying thing.”
“Are you two married? He’s SO much older than you!” Liz exclaimed.
‘Damn it all to hell! Why do they have to know him? I’m beginning to miss that idiot Tess!’ “Well, y’all must have noticed how he’s been gone for a while. We hadn’t talked for a year or two, but he stopped by to visit several weeks ago and the sparks went flying all over again. Two weeks ago we eloped in Las Vegas,” Serena said quickly, not even believing herself.
“Really. Are you Sydney’s mother also?” Max asked skeptically.
“Oh no, she’s his first wife’s.”
“Oh, okay. So, um, do you want a ride to your house?”
“Why, thank you Max. I would really appreciate that. Just let me get my things,” Serena said as she walked back into the Granolith.
“What am I going to do?” she muttered to herself, miserably.
“She did what?!” Kathana screeched at Larek.
“Let me get this straight. Queen Serena fixed the Granilith, kidnapped Ava and Zan’s son, took her son, and flew in the Granilith to Terra. Is that it?” an amazed Sero said.
Larek nodded and replied, “Yeah, that’s just about it.”
“My God! I don’t care if I promised her parents I would never hurt her, I’m going to kill that child when I find her!” Hanar ranted while pacing back and forth.
“Its not that bad…” Larek started to say.
“Not that bad?” Kathana exclaimed incredulously. “Do you have any idea of what that asshole husband of hers will do to you and her when he finds you both? What he’ll do to us? Knowing Khivar, he’ll probably figure that we were in on it and he’ll kick his attacks up a notch!”
Larek sat down in his chair and covered his face with his hands. ‘What am I going to do?’ he thought miserably.
As Serena and her two “sons” sat in the back of Max’s Jeep, a thought occurred to her. She reached into her bag and pulled out her communicator (the alien version of a cell phone) and dialed up Larek.
In the middle of an argument with Kathana, Sero and Hanar, Larek was relieved to hear his communicator beep.
“Hello?” Larek said.
“Hey Brody! This is your wife,” Serena said happily.
Larek blinked and exclaimed, “Serena! What the hell are you doing?”
Hearing Serena’s name, the three rulers turned to listen to Larek’s conversation.
“You’d never believe it, darling. Your friends Max Evans and Liz Parker are giving me a ride to the house right now. We should be there in a few minutes.”
“Shit! How did all of this happen?” Larek asked, completely bewildered.
“Of course I expect you to meet me there, sweetie. Can’t you get off work? After all, you own the museum. Do you really expect me to show up at the house with you not there?” Serena said, trying not to freak out.
“Okay, I get the message! Give me five frickin’ minutes,” Larek said, and then hung up.
“I love you too, baby. See ya in a few,” Serena said.
Max looked and Liz and mouthed, “Do you think she’s lying?”
She shrugged and mouthed back, “I’m not sure, but I heard a voice on the other end of the phone. We’ll know when we reach Brody’s.”
Max nodded and continued to drive.
“What’s going on? What did our precious queen do now?” Sero demanded.
“No time to explain, I gotta go channel Brody Davis!” Larek yelled as he ran out the door.
Kathana shook her head and sighed, “That boy just keeps getting weirder and weirder.”
The other two leaders nodded in agreement.
Larek finally reached a room he knew he wouldn’t be disturbed in. He sat down and luckily found Brody at home. He connected with him and became Brody.
“Brody, honey, I’m home!” Serena called into the house, praying that Larek had successfully connected with Brody.
“Hey baby girl!” Larek said as he entered the living room from the kitchen and embraced her. “Hey Liz, hey Max. Thank you guys so much for giving my wife a ride over here. “
“Uh, no problem Brody. We’d better get going. See you two around,” Max said sounding a bit confused.
As soon as Max and Liz closed the door, Larek told Rafe to take Kyle into the back room, and then he let Serena have it.
“What the hell were you thinking saying that you and Brody were married? How did that happen? What would you have done if you didn’t have your communicator, or if I didn’t answer mine? Did you think for one second about the consequences of your words?” he yelled at her.
“I’m not stupid, Larek! I had no intention of Max and Liz seeing the Granilith land or any of that! When they approached me I knew I was fucked. I never once thought of walking up to Max and saying, ‘Hi, remember me from your past life? Your sister was engaged to my brother and I was your sworn protector, and I guarded you with my life until a man you now know as Nicholas killed me. Well, Khivar brought me back like you guys, but I’m full-blooded Antarian. I was forced to marry him and this is my and Larek’s son. The other one is yours.’ Right, they would have believed that. I was too tired to think of anything better than me and Brody being married, so just back the fuck off!” Serena screamed.
Larek just looked at Serena and sighed. He sat down on the couch and said, “I don’t know how we’re going to pull this off, I really don’t”
Serena grimaced and sat down on the couch. After a few moments of silence she started crying and Larek rocked her gently until she fell asleep. Outside the front door, a shocked Max and Liz stared at each other with dropped jaws.
“Whoa, this is TOO much. The baby is your son, Max,” Liz said in awe.
“I know, its unreal,” Max said, dazed.
“Well, what should we do? Should we go back in and tell them we know?”
Max shook his head and said, “No, I need time to digest this. We can always talk to them tomorrow.”
Liz nodded and the two soul mates walked to the Jeep and drove off.
“I cannot believe that Serena could be this stupid!” Khivar said.
“Neither can I. I knew she hated me, but I never thought she could stoop so low as to take my son,” Tess replied.
Khivar paced up and down the length of the throne room. He stopped suddenly and got an evil look in his eyes.
“Uh-oh. What are you thinking, Khivar?” Tess asked alarmed.
A wicked smile came across his lips as he replied, “You and I are going to go to Terra, kill Serena and the rest of the Royal Four, then take my son and your son back here to Antar. We might also kill their human friends if we have the time. Contact Nicholas right away.”
Tess looked a bit unsure, but nodded and ran off to the communications room. ‘I just had to ask, didn’t I? Does that mean he’ll kill Valenti and Kyle? I hope not,’ she thought. She reached the communication console specifically used to contact Nicholas and pushed the connect button.
“Yo!” Nicholas said.
“Yo? I thought you didn’t like New York, Nicholas,” Tess said amused.
Nicholas looked at the screen and said, “Genocidal girl? What the hell are you doing on Antar? Wait a minute, did you take the Granilith?”
“Yes, but that’s beside the point. Khivar wanted me to contact you and tell you of our plans to kill what remains of the Royal Four.”
“Oh? I’m listening,” Nicholas replied.
At the mention of killing the Royal Four, Lonnie and Rath turned their attention from the video game they were playing to Nicholas’ conversation with Tess.
When the conversation was over, Nicholas turned to the two punks and said, “Looks like we’re going back to Roswell.”
Lonnie and Rath grinned evilly.
When Serena woke up the next morning, she noticed that she was still in Larek’s arms. She smiled and studied Larek’s adoptive body. Both Larek and Brody had beautiful blue eyes, but Larek was taller and a bit heavier, plus Brody had crazy orange hair while Larek had jet-black hair. She gently shook Larek and woke him.
“Hey sweetie. Sleep well?” Serena asked sleepily.
Larek got a weird look on his face and look around frantically. He then jumped up and just stared at Serena.
“Larek, what’s wrong?”
“Larek? Who the hell is Larek? I’ve heard that name before…who are you?” Brody asked.
‘Oh shit, he’s Brody again! We should have thought of this!’ Serena thought, hitting her head with her hand. Before she could answer, Brody shuddered and she knew that Larek had connected with Brody again.
“What the hell happened? I woke up in Brody’s arms and he saw me and I called him Larek!” Serena shrieked hysterically.
Larek drew a deep breath and said, “I fell asleep, I couldn’t help it. We have no choice but to tell him the truth.”
“Are you serious? Do you think he could handle it?”
“Well, he already believes that I abduct him. Why wouldn’t he believe this? It would be easier if we had the real Brody to collaborate your story.”
Serena nodded reluctantly and said, ”Okay, release him, but keep an eye out for him freaking out. I love you.”
Larek just smiled and Brody’s body shook. Brody looked around and said, “I was just abducted wasn’t I?”
Serena shook her head and replied, “No, you were kinda taken over. You see, my lover, Larek, lives on a planet called Antar and he sometimes needs to get in touch with people that you know as Max and Isabel Evans and Michael Guerin. They’re three members of what we call the Royal Four. In their past lives, Max was Zan, king of Antar; Isabel was Volandra, his sister, fiancé of Michael, and ultimately their betrayer; and Michael was Rath, my brother and Zan’s right hand man. The fourth is Tess, but she betrayed all them and is now back on Antar. Since Antar is so far away, Larek needs someone to connect to and take over. Every time you think you’ve been abducted, Larek has actually taken over your body. Our planet has been taken over by my husband, Khivar, the man who killed the Royal Four originally. Antar’s fate rests in Max’s hands, and I need to gain his trust before revealing my true identity. I came here with my and Larek’s son and Max and Tess’ son, and I need you to pretend to be my husband and the boys’ father to avoid suspicion. The older child is Rafe and the baby is Kyle. Rafe is 4, Kyle is a month old, and I am 15. We haven’t talked for a year or two, but you stopped by to visit me in Arizona several months ago and the sparks went flying all over again. Two weeks ago we eloped in Las Vegas. Anything else you need to know, just ask me. Any questions?”
Brody’s jaw was dropped and when she finished, he passed out. Serena gave him a disgusted look and walked into the kitchen to get some water.
“Are you okay?” an amused Serena asked Brody when he finally came around.
He just sat there for a moment with a dazed look on his face and then asked, “I was just imagining all that alien stuff, right?”
His eyes pleaded for her answer to be yes, but Serena knew she had to tell him the truth. She sighed and replied, “No, Brody. It was all real.”
Brody’s eyes widened and for a second Serena thought he was going to pass out again. All of a sudden, Rafe came tearing into the room complaining that Kyle was crying and was therefore most likely hungry. Serena smiled and told her son to keep an eye on Brody.
When his mother was out of the room, Rafe turned to Brody and asked, “Are you the man who’s going to pretend to be my father?”
The kid looked so innocent and Brody realized that he liked him and would do his best to help him and his mother. Brody smiled and said, “Yep, just call me Dad. You’re Rafe, right?”
Rafe grinned and nodded. Serena returned to the room and knew immediately that Brody would help her out. She gave a sigh of relief and hugged Brody.
“Thank you,” she whispered as she held him.
“Its nothing, don’t worry. I do need you to answer one question though. Why didn’t you just come out and tell Max the truth? I mean, that is why you came.”
Serena sat down on the couch cradling Kyle. She thought for a moment on the best way to phrase what she wanted to say. Finally, she replied, “Its complicated. In my past life I was very close to all of the Royal Four, Ava above all. Rath, er, Michael and I were pretty close as siblings, but Ava was my best friend in the world. Early in my life, I was identified as being the strongest and most intelligent person of my generation. As was the tradition, I was trained to be the Royal Four’s protector. I was thrilled because my brother was one of them and we were both very protective of each other. Over time I grew close to the four of them, but Ava and I had an immediate connection, like we were made to be each other’s best friend. When Khivar attacked us, he gave the order to specifically not kill me since he knew how valuable I could be. Unfortunately a man named Graner, now known as Nicholas, really disliked me and killed me while I attempted to protect Max. When I was reborn as Khivar’s wife, the only thing that kept me from taking my own life was the hope that I would be reunited with the four of them some day. The day Tess arrived I was so excited because I thought she would be Ava. I was wrong. You may not know this, but Tess was the one who killed Alex Whitman. After I heard that, I thought my life was over. Luckily, Larek kept me going with his unconditional love and I devised a plan to escape to Terra. Although I want to let Max have his son and tell him the truth, I must first be sure that he is the good man that Zan was. If he is, I will confess everything to him. If he isn’t, I’ll just have to start a new life and raise Kyle as my own son.”
Rafe and Brody sat mesmerized by the sad woman’s story. At the mention of Alex’s death, Brody could feel his eyes tear up. When she finished, he gave her a quick hug and said, “I understand now. Don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll come to find that Max is a very good man.”
Serena smiled appreciatively and said, “Well, how do you feel about stopping by the Crashdown Café?”
Max, Liz, Isabel, Michael, Maria and Kyle were all gathered in their usual booth at the Crashdown discussing the Serena issue. Liz glanced at her watch and informed the group that they had ten minutes until opening.
“What I don’t get is why she lied to you,” Isabel said.
Max shrugged and replied, “Neither do I, but I knew along that I knew her from somewhere. I don’t think she means us any harm, but she feels the need not to disclose her identity to us just yet.”
“Maxwell, she has your son. If I were you I would have marched right back into the house and taken him,” Michael said.
“I just needed time to accept everything that we’d heard. I wasn’t really expecting your sister to show up in the Granilith with my son and then tell me that she was Brody’s wife. That was the last thing in the universe I would have ever expected.”
“My sister?! You never said anything about this Serena chick being my sister!” Michael exclaimed, shocked.
“You never gave us a chance to tell you everything we heard,” Liz said.
“So what exactly did she say?” Kyle asked.
“Well, she was arguing with Larek and got really pissed at him for yelling at her. Then she said that she wasn’t stupid and didn’t exactly plan on the two of us seeing her land. Then she went off about how she never once thought of walking up to me and telling me all about how my sister was engaged to her brother, how she was our sworn protector and was killed by Nicholas while trying to save us. Then she said something about how she was brought back like us to be Khivar’s wife, but was full-blooded Antarian. She also mentioned that one kid was her’s and Larek’s and the other was mine. Since the older kid Rafe is 4, I would think that Kyle, the month old, is mine,” Max said.
“Kyle? The baby’s name is Kyle?” Maria asked, while Kyle was completely perplexed at the idea of the child being named after him.
Liz just nodded.
Michael sat in stunned silence. ‘I have a sister. I have a blood relative.’ That thought ran through his mind over and over again. He was almost giddy at the thought of having family. Sure, he considered the others his family, but to have a biological sister was amazing. As he sat there thinking, Liz announced that it was time to open the café. Liz walked up to the door to unlock it and was startled to see Brody, Serena, Rafe and Kyle heading toward the restaurant.
“Guys, they’re coming!” Liz called to the group.
That snapped Michael out of his thoughts.
“What? My sister is coming?” Michael said panicking.
“Chill out, sweetie. Act normal or they’ll know we know,” Maria said to her boyfriend.
He just nodded and took off for the kitchen.
Liz greeted the four at the door and said, “Good morning everyone! Glad y’all stopped by.”
She seated them and took their orders.
Max sat in the booth staring at his son. ‘He’s so beautiful. I wish I could just go over there and hold him’ he thought with tears in his eyes. Sensing what her brother was thinking, Isabel nudged Max and gave him a go-over-there look. He took a deep breath and walked over to the “family”.
“Good morning. I hope you all slept well your first night as a family in your house,” Max said sweetly.
Serena gave him an odd smile and replied, “Yes, we did. Would you like to sit with us?”
Max quickly grabbed the opportunity to sit so close to his son. Judging by the look on his face, Serena knew Max wanted to hold Kyle. ‘Either he knows about us or he feels a connection with the kid,’ she thought.
“Hey, Max. Could you do me a favor and hold Kyle for me while I go to the bathroom?”
Max’s face lit up and Serena handed the baby over to his father. As she walked to the bathroom, she was very much aware of everyone in Max’s group watching her. When she passed the kitchen, Serena caught a glimpse of Michael and wanted to cry. She quickly made her way to the bathroom.
‘God, she’s beautiful,’ Michael thought as he watched his sister make her way to the bathroom. For some reason, he trusted her completely. He, of all people, trusted a girl he had only seen for a few seconds and had never spoken to, but there was just something about her and the way she carried herself. Then he saw her come out of the bathroom and was so distracted by her that the stove caught his sleeve on fire. Michael frantically shook his arm to put the fire out, but it was blazing and hurt so bad. Serena’s eyes widened and quickly put out the flames with her powers. Almost instantaneously, she threw a pot of water on his arm and shot him a look that clearly said to keep quiet. He nodded that he understood and held his arms out as Maria ran to him.
“Oh my God, Michael, you scared the crap out of me! Thank God Serena was there to throw water on you,” Maria cried.
“Yeah, uh, thanks, Serena,” Michael said.
“It was nothing,” she shrugged and walked back to her table.
‘Yes, I definitely trust her,’ thought Michael.
Nicholas paced back and forth wondering where Khivar and Tess were. He was amazed that they were able to build another machine that equaled the Granilith’s ability to send them to Terra so quickly. Unfortunately, that’s where the machines’ likenesses ended. The Granilith was far more powerful than the ship that Tess and Khivar built in just a few hours. Although Nicholas was very loyal to Khivar, he seriously doubted that Khivar, Tess, Lonnie, Rath and himself could take on Max, Michael, Isabel, Serena and her son by themselves. Khivar did not want his son harmed, but even he knew that Rafe would most likely die before letting anything happen to his mother. If it was just the three idiots, he knew they could kill them, but with Serena here, he thought that they had no hope.
“So when is the dude supposed to get here? I ain’t known for my patience, ya know, “an annoyed Rath said to Nicholas.
“He’ll be here any minute. In fact, I think that’s him,” Nicholas said pointing at the approaching ship.
When the ship landed, the three walked up to it to greet its passengers. Tess was the first one out and eyed the other three warily. Even though she was now on their side, she still disliked the three who had all tried to kill her. Before anyone could say anything, Khivar stepped out of the ship.
“Welcome to Earth, Khivar,” Nicholas said.
After putting Kyle and Rafe down for their naps, Serena heard the doorbell ring. She opened the door and was surprised to find her brother standing before her.
“Uh, hi Michael. What can I do for you?” she asked uneasy.
Michael studied his extremely petite sister and replied, “I know who you are.”
“Oh, Michael!” Serena cried as she threw her arms around her big brother.
Michael closed his eyes and held his younger sister. He couldn’t help but notice how thin she was. Serena was around 5’2, and he would guess that she weighed only 85 pounds. Finally, she pulled back and asked her brother to come inside. The reunited siblings sat down on the couch to talk.
“Serena, why didn’t you tell us the truth?” Michael asked.
“I’d rather give the full story to everyone at once. To sum it up for you, I was very upset by the way Tess was not Ava and I needed to be reassured that Max was the good man that Zan was before I gave him his son. Guess that was a little stupid since they saw me land, huh? How did you know that I was your sister?”
Michael looked at his feet and mumbled something.
“What?” Serena asked.
“I said that Max and Liz eavesdropped on you and Larek last night.”
“Oh. Well, that’s okay. Don’t worry about it.”
“I have another question. How does Larek keep control of Brody for so long? I thought he could only do that for short periods of time.” Michael inquired.
“I can answer that,” Brody said from the doorway. He walked to sit on the couch next to Serena and said, “I know about all of you, Michael. Serena told me and I agreed to help her. Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone. I’m just glad to know that I haven’t been getting abducted, though I don’t really like the idea of someone taking over my body.”
“Well, welcome to the club, Brody. I knew you’d be a part of it eventually,” Michael said. “Why don’t we go tell the group now.”
Serena smiled and turned to Brody. “Can you watch the kids for me?”
Brody nodded and made a shooing motion. The brother and sister held hands as they walked to Michael’s motorcycle and took off for the Crashdown.
“Where do you think Michael ran off to?” Kyle asked the group of friends.
Isabel shrugged and said, “I don’t know. He probably went to sneak a peek at his sister or something.”
The sound of ringing bells turned the group’s attention to the door as Serena and Michael walked in. Max shot him a questioning look and Michael said, “She knows we know.”
Everyone was staring at Serena and she felt incredibly uncomfortable. Sensing his sister’s apprehension, he motioned for her to sit down and said, “Why doesn’t everyone introduce themselves?”
The five of them proceeded to introduce themselves, and then there was a minute or two of uncomfortable silence. Finally, Max asked, “So, why did you lie to me and Liz about who you were?”
Serena took a deep breath and replied, “I had to make sure you were the same great man Zan was before I could trust you with Kyle. I know you’re his father and all, but I was worried. I’d better start from the beginning so you’ll understand my worries. When I was six years old in my past life, I was identified as being the strongest and most intelligent person of my generation. As was the tradition, I was trained to be the Royal Four’s protector. King Neo and Queen Mara had their own protectors. You were all a great deal older than I, but that didn’t stop me from becoming very close to Ava. She was my best friend. I was appointed to your service at the age of twelve and went to live in the palace. Around the same time, I met Larek and fell in love with him. Larek and Zan had grown up together and were very close. King Neo died when I was thirteen and I was deeply upset. We didn’t find out until later that Khivar had killed him. Larek helped make all of the funeral arrangements because we were all depressed over his death. Larek and I grew closer and were married when I was fourteen. I also protected him and my and Rath’s sister, Rayana. She and Zan were in love, but were not allowed to marry since that would mean that Zan and Vilondra were marrying siblings, so they were lovers. I was fifteen when Khivar attacked us. Zan was 25, Rath was 24, Rayana was 23, and Ava and Vilondra had just turned 22. Fortunately, Larek was visiting another planet to deal with some kind of disagreement. I was asleep in bed when I heard the motion sensors go off and got up to investigate. I was horrified to see Khivar and his men trying to get into the palace. I ran to the others’ rooms and told them what was going on. They all dressed and prepared for battle, except Ava because she was pregnant and too weak to get out of bed. I gave her a weapon and told her to blast anyone who came through the door, then took off with the others. Zan was incredibly angry with Vilondra for accidentally betraying them by falling for Khivar, but I told him to lay off and pay attention to the situation at hand. Vilondra was devastated at the thought of her betraying us. She hadn’t meant to let Khivar in on all their secrets, but she had. When Khivar found us, Vi had an opportunity to kill him, but hesitated. Khivar used that second to kill her in front of us. I screamed and took after him, determined to kill him. Zan grabbed me from behind and told me not to do anything stupid. I knew he was right so I decided to go check on Ava. Zan went with me and when I knocked on the door, there was no answer. I tried calling out to her telepathically, but there was again no answer. Zan and I opened the door and stepped into the room to find her body torn apart. I grabbed Zan’s hand and went to find the others. We were both crying hysterically over the losses we had suffered, but sucked it up when we came across the battle in the ballroom. Rath and Rayana were doing their best to hold Khivar and Graner back. You’d know Graner as Nicholas. I heard Khivar give the order to specifically not kill me since he knew how valuable I could be. Zan and I wasted no time and began to attack the two men. I was about to kill Graner when he grabbed Rayana and held her between the two of us. Before I could even move, he used his powers to slit her wrists and neck. She slumped to the floor and I knelt down to try and heal her, but Graner kicked me and I returned the attack. When I had an open window, I turned back to save Rayana, but she was dead and Zan was holding her and crying. I broke down and was oblivious to anything else around me until I heard Rath let out a scream of pain. I looked up in time to see Khivar finish him off. I ran to his side and rocked back and forth as I held him. Since Zan and I were both devastated, I thought that Khivar and Graner would back off, but Graner was a nasty little bastard and tried to kill Zan. I knew what he was about to do so I jumped in front of Zan and was killed. Zan was killed only moments after that. When I was reborn as Khivar’s wife, the only thing that kept me from taking my own life was the hope that I would be reunited with the four of you some day. I met Larek and fell in love with him all over again and had Rafe, but Khivar thinks that he is the father. When Tess arrived I was so excited because I thought she would be Ava. I was wrong. After I found out all the horrible things she had done, I thought my life was over. The Ava from New York is more like the real Ava than Tess could ever be. After an especially ugly fight with Tess, Larek and I knew I had to come here. I took my son and Kyle and left. I wanted to just tell you everything, but I had been betrayed and hurt so much that I needed to be reassured that you were a good man and would be a good father. I hope you can forgive me.”
Serena was crying over the horrible memories she was telling them and Michael held her. The other three girls were also in tears after hearing about Serena’s heartache. Max touched her hand lightly and reassured, “Of course we forgive you. You just wanted to protect yourself and your family. I’m glad you told us all of this.”
“So, we had a sister?” Michael asked. “Where is she? Did she get reborn too?”
Serena removed herself from her brother’s protective arms and replied, “Yes, we had a sister. Something went wrong when they tried to recreate her with Antarian DNA so they made her fully human. I’ve searched for her for years and narrowed the search to here in Roswell. I still don’t know who she is or even how old she is.”
Hearing Serena talk about the battle and Rayana’s death sounded very familiar to Liz, but she couldn’t put her finger on the reason. Besides the fact that future Max had mentioned her, Serena seemed very familiar as well. She knew immediately that the two of them really would become close.
“So, Max. Would you like to go see your son?” Serena asked.
Max grinned and the group left the Crashdown and headed for Brody’s.
Outside the Crashdown, a black Explorer sat with five people watching the teens walk away.
“So, that’s the infamous Max and his loyal followers. They’re all a bunch of kids!” Khivar laughed.
“They may be kids, but they’re damn powerful, especially with Serena. If they ever found out the truth about little Parker, we’d really be screwed,” Nicholas said.
“Well, what do ya know, I have two precious little sisters,” Rath said.
“They ain’t nothing special. We can take ‘em on,” Lonnie said.
Tess just sighed as she watched her former friends walk away. ‘I wish I hadn’t betrayed them. They’ll be out to get me more than ever now,’ she thought miserably.
“Has anyone seen Tess or Khivar?” a worried Larek asked the palace guards.
One nodded and replied, “Yes, Larek. They left yesterday for Terra.”
Larek’s eyes widened and he took off for his transport. ‘Oh God. I have to get Serena’ he thought panicking. To his dismay, Serena wasn’t answering her communicator and Brody wouldn’t allow him in. Panicking, he got an idea. He prayed that Den would help and raced for the chief engineer’s home.
As Liz sat in the passenger seat of Max’s car, she tried to sort out the weird mixture of emotions Serena’s arrival at the Crashdown had brought on. She felt resentment, love, anger, jealousy, confusion, and many other emotions, but she was unsure as to who they were directed at. She was also bothered by the fact that Serena and her story seemed so familiar.
Max’s words brought Liz out of her thoughts and she climbed out of the Jeep to join the others. Serena opened the front door and went into the back room to find Kyle.
Brody walked into the living room and screamed, “Oh no!! The aliens are here! No, I won’t let you take me again!”
Everyone except Michael stared at Brody in shock. Michael just laughed and gave Brody a high five.
“That was great, man. Love their reactions.”
Brody just grinned and looked at the group of teens that were staring at him.
“What? I know about everything. Chill,” Brody said with an amused expression on his face.
Before anyone could respond, Serena walked back into the room holding the baby and Rafe’s hand. She handed Kyle over to Max and said, “Max, let me officially introduce you to your son Kyle Valenti Evans. Don’t ask me why she named him that.”
Max’s eyes shone as he held his son and gently stroked Kyle’s face with his fingers. The baby’s eyes lit up and he clearly recognized Max as his father. Watching their interaction, Liz’s feelings started up again and she realized something.
“Oh my God! Max, didn’t Tess say that the baby couldn’t survive in our atmosphere?”
Max nodded as he drew his brows together.
“She tricked you! She tricked all of you into thinking that he couldn’t survive here so you would have to leave. That also helped to get you to let her go. That devious little bitch!” Liz ranted.
Serena smiled as she listened to the pretty brown haired human rant. ‘She’s so smart, so much like Rayana. And the way Max is with her, I wonder… No, that would be too easy. But what if it is that easy?’
The others sat in silence as the truth of what Liz said sunk in.
“What if everything was a lie? What if our destinies are a lie?” Isabel asked.
A look of hope came across the three aliens’ and Liz’s faces. Serena winced and said, “They’re not. As far as I know, the only lies Tess told you were about the baby and Alex. Sorry to burst your bubbles.”
Her fellow Antarians looked disappointed, but Liz quickly replied, “That’s okay, it wouldn’t have changed anything that happened.”
The way she said that pierced Max’s heart. He knew she was referring to him and Tess sleeping together. Though he pretended that he knew she really wasn’t over it, he realized that deep down he truly believed she was over it.
The reference to that incident didn’t get past the others either and Michael harshly replied, “Well, that’s your own fault for sleeping with Kyle. That gave him reason enough.”
Serena and Brody’s eyebrows shot up at this and they exchanged a look then looked to Liz for her rebuke.
“We didn’t sleep together, Michael,” Kyle said angrily.
Isabel and Michael looked confused and looked at Liz to see if she was going to explain things.
“He’s right, we didn’t sleep together. Kyle did help me make it look as if we did, but we never slept together. Wanna know something else?” the aliens nodded “We did it to save your lives. Yeah, that’s right. I put your lives before my own happiness and sacrificed the love of my life and you made me feel even worse. You see, I got a little visit from Max one night, but it was Max from 14 years in the future. He told me that I had to get him to fall out of love with me or the whole world would come to an end. Apparently, we had cemented our relationship by sleeping together the night of the Gomez concert and became inseparable. Max was such an ass to Tess that she left Roswell, only for us to discover later that you three were not strong enough to take on our enemies without her. Anyway, we got married in Las Vegas at the age of 19 and were incredibly happy. At first I didn’t want to help him take that away, but what convinced me was the fact that Isabel had died two weeks before he came and Michael had died half an hour before he left. I…oh my God. I just realized something: Tess left! I sacrificed so much and now the little bitch is gone. Great, just fucking great!” Liz cried as she slumped to the floor in tears.
Everyone stared at Liz with wide eyes and Serena felt her heart break for her. She got up off the couch and sat next to Liz. Liz glanced at Serena then threw her arms around her. ‘Where is all of this coming from? I had no clue this was how I was feeling. Are they really my emotions?’ Liz thought to herself as Serena rocked her back and forth.
Max sat with his head in his hands sobbing. His Liz had been in so much pain and it killed him to think that he had helped cause it. Isabel squeezed her brother’s hand as she tried to hold back tears of her own. She had been such a bitch to Liz, but the entire time Liz was doing it to protect her and her family. Isabel felt so ashamed. Even Michael looked guilty and ashamed of his behavior.
When her tears had stopped, Liz pulled back from Serena and did her best to force a smile.
“Don’t worry, Liz. With me here, they’ll be more powerful than they could have ever been with Tess,” Serena whispered.
Liz gave her a look that was filled gratitude and friendship. Serena shot Brody a pleading look and he said, “Why don’t you all go home for now and we can meet for dinner. I’m sure Max would like to spend some time with Kyle and Serena and Michael would probably like to have to brother/sister bonding time. 8 o’clock at the Crashdown okay?”
The teens agreed and filed out of the house.
“Wow, is there always this much drama when y’all hang out?” Brody asked Michael.
Michael gave a tired laugh and replied, “Yeah, only Maria is usually the one freaking out.”
Serena laughed and realized that it was the first time she had laughed with someone other than Larek in a long time. ‘I have family again’ she thought as Michael began to tell her of the pod squad’s adventures.
“So, when do we take ‘em out?” Lonnie asked Khivar.
“When they are the most vulnerable.”
“Right, so we kill the happy-go-lucky freaks in their sleep.”
“No, Rath. We wait until we can take the two children hostage.”
Tess had a bad feeling about this. Max and the others were incredibly strong. If it was a battle of minds, she could take them all on, except for Serena. If only she could get Serena on their side. An idea popped into her head.
“No, you’re wrong. The best way to get to Serena is through family. Take away her son, brother and sister and she’s left with nothing,” Tess said evilly.
The other four aliens turned to look at her and Nicholas said, “Wow, genocidal girl is good!”
“Promise you won’t tell?”
“Of course we won’t, Rayana! Tell us!” a younger and excited Serena exclaimed.
“Okay, I’m pregnant!”
Serena squealed in delight and threw her arms around her big sister while their big brother Rath hugged both girls.
“That’s great sweetie. Have you told Zan yet?” Rath asked.
“No, I am tonight, though,” said an ecstatic Rayana.
“Just make sure Ava doesn’t find out. I know that you and Zan are in love, but she is my best friend and his wife. I don’t want to see her get hurt,” Serena said.
“I don’t see why you like that girl so much. I mean, she married the love of our sister’s life,” Rath mumbled.
Serena shot him a silencing glare and asked, “What are you going to name the kid?”
“Well, Serena, if it’s a girl I’ll name her Cera after Mother. If it’s a boy I’ll name him Bei after Father.”
The younger girl’s eyes teared up and it was obvious the mention of their parents was painful.
‘What on Earth?’ Liz thought when she woke up. She couldn’t believe that she had fallen asleep. Then it hit her that the dream reminded her of another one she’d had after she first heard Serena’s name. Without warning that dream came flooding back to her, almost like a memory.
“Rath! Where’s Serena?” screamed an upset Rayana,
Her big brother’s head shot up as he looked at her with concern.
“She’s at training, why?” Rath questioned.
“Oh God, Rath. M…Mom and Dad are…are…a,” she managed to say before breaking down in tears.
“Mom and Dad are what, Serena? They’re what?”
“D…dead, Mom and Dad are dead,” Rayana cried,
Rayana watched in horror as her brother, big, strong Rath, crumpled to the floor crying. She reached over and the two held onto each other for dear life.
“Never leave me, Rayana. Promise,” Rath pleaded.
“What do you mean?”
“Never die before me, never leave me or Serena. Promise that you’ll never leave us. Promise!”
“I promise, brother. I promise,” Rayana repeated over and over again.
‘That’s so weird. Both dreams are like memories, wanting me to remember them. She could feel Rayana’s joy as she told her siblings about the baby and her complete devastation at loosing her parents. Why would I be dreaming Rayana’s memories? Unless…no, that’s impossible. I’m not Rayana, am I?’ She frowned and glanced at her watch. “Eight-o-five, surprised they haven’t sent a search party,” she muttered to herself as she got up to straighten her hair before going downstairs to meet the others. She heard a tap on her window and went to see who it was. Before she could reach her destination, the window flew open and Tess stepped into the room. Liz opened her mouth to scream at the blonde bitch to get out of her room when the world went black.
“Now we just need to collect the brother and the son,” Nicholas said as Rath dragged Liz’s body out the window.
“Something’s wrong, Michael. Liz should have been down here ten minutes ago. Can you go check on her I get Isabel’s and Kyle’s drinks?” Maria asked.
Michael nodded and headed up the stairs to Liz’s room. When he knocked on the door, there was no answer.
“Liz, I coming in,” he called as he stepped into the room.
‘Odd, no one’s in here,’ he thought as he looked around. Michael heard noise behind him and turned around in time to see Lonnie’s fist meet his face and knock him out cold.
“Dat was too easy, man! The kid will be even easier,” said Lonnie, cocky.
She dragged Michael’s body to the car and joined the others.
“Now alls we gotta do is get Serena’s baby boy and we’ll have her twisted ‘round our little fingers,” Lonnie said.
‘That won’t be as easy as you think,’ Tess laughed to herself as she remembered the time she snuck up on Rafe and he knocked her out for hours with his powers. No, capturing that kid would be harder than anything Lonnie and Rath had ever done.
As Serena and Brody walked into the Crashdown with Kyle, she noticed that everyone was there except for Liz and Michael. For some reason that fact really disturbed her. She started to sit down when a wave of fear and pain shot through her body like a bullet through her heart. It was quickly followed anger and guilt. Then there was nothing.
“What the…Rafe!” she screamed as she tore out of the café and ran toward Brody’s house as fast as her legs could carry her, which was pretty fast when her powers aided her.
When she reached the house, tears were streaming down her face. Serena found the front door ajar and was afraid to go inside. She took a deep breath and stepped inside calling the child’s name. Rafe had insisted that he didn’t want to go and would stay at the house. He’d done it a million times on Antar, but, Serena realized grimly, they weren’t on Antar anymore. She searched the entire house and could find no trace of him. Serena was overcome with despair and sank to the floor shaking and staring blankly into space.
“Serena? Are you okay?” a worried Brody asked.
She kept staring straight ahead, as if she hadn’t heard him. He snapped his fingers in her face and was rewarded with an annoyed glare.
“Well, at least you’re responding! Serena, what happened?” Brody asked as the others came into the room.
“Rafe’s gone,” Serena said simply in a monotone voice.
Fear and panic seized the group as Maria asked, “Are you sure sweetie?”
Serena just nodded. Without a word, everyone fanned out to search for clues. After a few minutes, Kyle called, “Hey guys, I think I found something!”
Everyone went to the kitchen to see what Kyle found. With much reluctance, Serena accepted Maria’s hand and went with her to the kitchen.
“Well, what is it?” Isabel asked impatiently.
Kyle shrugged and handed the metallic object to Serena.
“Do you know what it is?”
Lightning flashed in Serena’s eyes as she pushed the project button on the visual communicator. She was terrified to find out who had her son.
The life-size image of a large and dangerous looking man popped up in front of them. Max and the others were horrified to see Nicholas standing with the man. Serena’s eyes grew more and more dangerous looking as she waited for Khivar to speak.
“Hello Serena. I assume you have discovered that our son is missing. I bet you’re also wondering where your brother and sister are. That’s right, I have them. If you ever want to see Michael, Liz or Rafe again, you will do as you’re told. Go alone to the quarry at midnight. You will find out then what your instructions are. I’m warning you, wife, try to pull any stunts and I will kill your precious siblings.”
With those words the transmission ended and so did Serena’s life, she thought. It was now her turn to pass out.
“Oh God, I hope I’m not too late,” Larek said as he climbed out of his ship on the outskirts of town. To his surprise, a black truck pulled up and a handsome man in his late forty’s or early fifty’s got out. Larek gaped at the man, terrified.
“Who are you?” Valenti asked.
“L-Larek,” he stammered.
“Oh yeah, I heard about you. Hop in, I’ll take you to Brody’s”
Larek decided to trust the man and climbed into the truck. ‘I really hope I won’t regret this,’ he thought as they rode in silence.
When Liz came to, she found herself in a room with only three beds and a bathroom. There were no windows at all. She looked around and discovered Michael and Rafe next to her, still unconscious. ‘What is going on? Why are we the only three in here?’ she thought. She tried to sit up and was hit with an overwhelming headache. Liz groaned and lay back down. Once again without warning, she had a memory flash.
“Ray, get up!”
“Serena, what’s wrong?”
“Khivar, he’s trying to get into the palace and he has Graner and the others with him,” Serena said calmly.
Rayana got a scared look in her eyes as she jumped out of bed to get dressed. She grabbed her Quicksilver laser and ran out the door behind her sister. The two met up with Vilondra, Zan, and Rath and rounded the corner. There stood Khivar and Graner, waiting for them. Khivar and Graner immediately went after Rath and Zan, giving Vilondra a chance to shoot Khivar. She hesitated and Khivar turned and blasted her apart. Rayana screamed and dropped to her knees while her little sister took off after her friend’s murderer.
Liz gasped as Rayana’s despair hit her in waves. Next to her, Michael too was dealing with a weird memory.
“Are you serious?” Rayana asked.
Rath glanced over at his sister and nodded grimly. Serena took his hand and asked, “Rath, are you okay?”
He smiled weakly and replied, “Yeah, I just never thought Vilondra would betray me like that. I know she and I aren’t thrilled about getting married, but I never thought she’d cheat on me with Khivar. She could have at least done it with someone decent.”
Serena shook her head. “I can’t believe her. He and I may get along, but sometimes I get the feeling that he’s just talking to me to get information on the Royal Four. I have a really bad feeling about all this.”
Her two siblings turned to look at her with dread of the future growing inside them since they knew to trust her feelings.
Michael woke with a start and looked around frantically. He noticed Rafe curled up next to him, resting his head on Michael’s arm and Liz on his other side staring at him.
“You okay?” Liz asked.
“I think so. I think I just remembered something from my past, with Rayana and Serena. Even weirder, Rayana looked an awful lot like you.”
“I know what you mean. I’ve been having flashes of Rayana’s memories, but I’m not Rayana.”
“Actually, you could be. Serena said that our present day Rayana is all human, remember?”
“I know, but I don’t want to talk about it now,” Liz said firmly.
Michael sighed and nodded. Then he asked, “Liz, what happened? Where are we?”
“I don’t know, I heard a tapping on my window and went to see who it was. Before I reached it, the window opened and Tess came in. I opened my mouth to yell at her, but then I was knocked out I guess.”
“Tess? How is that possible? Unless…”
“Unless she found a way back to Earth,” Liz finished for him.
“Oh shit! I hope the others figure out a plan to get us out of here soon because I don’t think Tess has any intention of letting either one of us go.”
Liz shuddered as she realized Michael was right and instinctively curled up against him. Michael was a bit taken back by that action, but smiled and put his arm around her protectively. ‘Hurry up, Maxwell. I don’t want to see Liz or Rafe get hurt,’ he thought.
“Serena wake up! Serena! Come on, we need you to wake up for us sweetie,” Maria called as she shook Serena.
With a moan, Serena woke up and sat up.
“Was that man Khivar?”
“What did he mean that he had your sister?”
“What was that metal thing?”
“Are you okay?”
“SHUT UP!” Serena screamed in a terrifying and commanding voice.
Her interrogators immediately shut their mouths and waited for her to speak. As Serena tried to collect her thought, the doorbell rang. Brody left to answer it and returned with Valenti and Larek. The group turned to look at Larek with questioning looks, and Serena shocked them all by standing up and flinging herself at the tall dark haired man. When Max got a good look at the man, he was hit with a flash.
“Larek, I don’t know what to do. Rayana and Ava are both pregnant. I asked your wife what she thought I should do and all she said was that she didn’t want to see Ava get hurt. What do you think?”
“Well, Zan, I have to agree with Serena. You know that for political purposes you must remain married to Ava. I am fully that you’re in love with Rayana and not Ava, but you have to keep this under wraps, do you hear me? I’d hate for you to piss Serena off because then she’d make me swear never to talk to you again.”
Zan laughed and nodded to his friend that he understood.
“Larek,” a stunned Max murmured.
Serena and Larek turned to stare at Max in amazement.
“Yeah, I’m Larek. Glad to hear that you recognize me.”
“I just got a flash of my past, that’s why,” he said.
“I figured you would. After I met Tess she quickly started to remember things about her past. Still didn’t change the little bitch, but oh well,” Serena said. “Larek, I don’t understand. How did you get here and why did you come?”
“I convinced Den to build me a ship to bring me here. Jim here saw me land and brought me here. I came because I discovered that Tess and Khivar are here on Terra.”
Serena dropped her gaze to the floor. “I know. He took my brother and sister. He also took Rafe.”
Larek gasped and held his love tighter. “What does he want?”
“He wants me to go to the quarry alone at midnight. Further instructions will wait for me there.”
Larek closed his eyes and held onto Serena even tighter.
“Serena, if he has your siblings, then who’s your sister?” Kyle asked.
All eyes were on Serena and Max had a sinking feeling he knew who it was.
“As I had started to suspect, it’s Liz. I had my suspicions and the fact that she’s not here confirms them. Don’t worry Max, as long as I stick to his demands she’ll be okay.”
Serena was so depressed that she wanted to just break down in Larek’s arms and cry, but she knew that it wouldn’t do anyone any good so she sucked it up and began to devise a plan.
Michael and Liz were hit with hit with feelings of depression at the same time.
“What was that?” Michael asked in confusion.
“Hum, have you been feeling weird since Serena showed up?”
“I don’t know, a strange mixture of emotions.”
“Yeah, actually. What do you think that is?”
“I think the three of us siblings have been each other’s feelings,” Liz said as she turned to gaze at her brother.
Michael gave her a crooked smile and hugged his other sister.

“I think we all agree that I should meet with Khivar tonight. However, it won’t be easy to get the others back. I have a really bad feeling as to what they have in store for me.” Serena paused for a moment before continuing. “First, we need to find out how our three captives are doing. Do any of you have any suggestions as to how to accomplish that?”
Larek gave Serena an odd look and replied, “Well, why don’t you just astral project to them?”
Serena opened her mouth and closed it, then opened it again and replied, “Yeah, I think I could do that. I guess I was so freaked I forgot about that power.”
She shook her head and sat on the floor cross-legged, then began to concentrate on her family’s presence. As usual, she sensed Rafe first, and then she picked up on Michael. With intense concentration, she found Liz. Serena “pulled” herself to them, relieved to see that they were together. When her full image appeared, Liz and Michael let out startled gasps while Rafe smiled and threw his arms around his mother.
“Hello sweetie. Are you okay?” Rafe nodded so Serena turned her attention to her brother and sister. “Hey sis, brother. Don’t be alarmed, this is one of my powers, astral projection. I hope that you two are also okay. We know that Khivar and Nicholas are behind this, but is anyone else involved?”
Michael nodded and said, “Yeah, my duplicate, Rath, Izzy’s duplicate, Lonnie, and that little bitch, Tess. Other than that we know nothing.”
Serena’s eyes narrowed at the mention of Tess.
“Okay, we’ll take care of this. Are you sure you’re all okay?”
Liz nodded and threw her arms around Serena, holding her younger sister tight. Michael then took both girls into his arms for a group hug. As they were hugging, a flash hit both Michael and Liz.
The three were at their parents’ funeral, just after it ended. Serena stood leaning on a tree with her arms wrapped around herself, shivering.
“Sweetie, are you alright?” Rath asked as he and Rayana walked up.
Serena shook her head and cursed when she started crying.
“A solider is not supposed to cry, a solider is not supposed to cry,” she kept mumbling as she rocked back and forth.
“Serena, you’re a fourteen year old girl, of course you’re going to cry when your parents die! I was amazed that you held it together at Neo and Mara’s funeral,” Rayana exclaimed.
“But I didn’t hold it together when they died. When I first found out, I ran to my room and cried for hours. After their funeral, I went to their room and cried while curled up on their bed. I’m too sensitive to be a solider!” Serena cried miserably.
“No, you’re not. I’m just as sensitive as you and I’m a solider,” Rath said.
Serena knew he was right and ran into her brother’s arms. Rayana joined them and said, “I promised Rath yesterday that I would never leave either one of you. I want you both to promise the same thing.”
“I promise,” Rath and Serena said in unison.
Michael and Liz looked each other in the eye and smiled. They knew that they had had the same memory flash.
Pulling out of the embrace, Serena said, “I should go, I’m using up a lot of power right now. We’re going to get you out of here. I love you all,” as she gave Rafe one more hug.
She stepped away from them and disappeared.
“I’m worried about her, Michael. I don’t want her to do any risky to save us. I need to get to know her, I need her to live,” Liz said quietly as Michael put an arm around her and the other around Rafe.
“I know what you mean, sis. I need her too.”
Khivar waited patiently for his wife’s arrival. ‘I hope for her family’s sake she doesn’t pull anything stupid. I’d hate to have to tell Rafe that his aunt and uncle were killed because of his mother,’ he thought evilly as he looked around. At the stroke of midnight, Serena stepped into view. He knew she wouldn’t be late.
“Hello, my wife. I’m pleased you could make it.”
“Fuck off Khivar. Just tell me what you want so I can get my family back as soon as possible.”
“The thing is, Serena, what I want is your life. I want you to sacrifice your life to save your loved ones,” he said slowly, as if trying to drag the pain out.
Serena wanted to do a million different things. She wanted to scream, cry, attack Khivar, agree, run away, etc. Most of all, she wanted to think.
“Give me 24 hours to decide,” she said numbly.
Khivar agreed and left. ‘Once again, what am I going to do?’ Serena thought as she walked back to Brody’s car. When she climbed in, Brody could tell that something was wrong.
“So what did the bastard want?”
“Nicholas showed up and said that Khivar couldn’t make it tonight and that I have to come back here tomorrow at midnight. I guess that just gives us more time to plan.”
Brody didn’t miss the fact that Serena wouldn’t make eye contact with him.
“Uh, yeah, that could help. Are you sure your family is still okay?” he asked.
“Yes, they’re fine. I would feel it if something happened to them. C’mon, let’s get back to the Crashdown.”
Brody gave her a troubled look and headed back for town.
“Do you think she’ll do it, Khivar?”
“Yes, Nicholas, I do. She puts family and friends before herself, she did in both lives. She’ll do whatever it takes not to loose them. I’ve always believed that she knew we would kill Zan and got herself killed so we would never discover where her niece was hidden.”
“Do you think she’ll tell Max or the others about her?”
“No, that would be too risky. The only people who know where Cera is are her guardians, Serena and Cera herself. Not even Larek knows.”
“What are you going to do when you find her?”
“I’m going to marry her so that the people would recognize me as the true king and would stop fighting with me over it.”
“You are indeed brilliant, my leaded.”
Khivar smiled faintly and said, “Go to bed Nicholas. We have a long day ahead of us.”
Nicholas bowed and went to his hotel room. As Khivar gazed out into the darkness, he had a fleeting moment of regret. Even though Serena could piss him off without doing or saying anything and hated him, her sarcasm and tendency to be a smartass amused him. She was also the mother of his child. Khivar shook the thoughts away and resumed his scowl and threatening look. He could not afford to have any weaknesses, especially one like Serena.
“Tomorrow,” he said to himself, “will be the day. Every last pain in my side shall be killed, and I won’t even show Serena mercy.”
When Serena opened the door to Brody’s house, Max and Larek rushed to the door to hear the news. Larek stopped dead in his tracks when he saw the emotionless expression on her face, but could feel anger and despair coming off of her in waves.
“So, what happened?” Max asked.
Serena mumbled something about having to go to the bathroom as she shoved past Max and Larek. Brody stepped into the house in time to see her run for the bathroom. He shook his head and sighed.
“Brody, what happened? Why is she so upset?” an incredibly concerned Larek asked.
Brody shrugged. “She got back into the car and said something about Nicholas telling her Khivar couldn’t make it and to come back tonight at midnight. When she told me, she wouldn’t look me in the eye so there has to be something more.”
While the others sat down to discuss what could have happened, Larek went to check on Serena. Once in the hall he could hear her sobbing in the bathroom. He opened the door and his heart broke when he saw her small body curled into a ball on the floor. She was shaking violently as she cried and he started to say something when he realized she was speaking. Larek leaned in closer and inhaled sharply when he heard what she was saying.
“I don’t want to die but I have to,” Serena almost chanted as she lay on the floor.
Larek couldn’t take it anymore. “Serena, what are you talking about? Why do you have to die?”
She jumped when she heard his voice, but remained silent.
“Serena, what it is?” Larek asked as she sat down beside her.
Serena quickly regained her emotionless expression and looked at him.
She studied him for a moment before saying, “No, you’ll try to stop me. I can’t let you stop me. Its my life, not yours!”
With that, she tore out of the house, leaving Larek confused and worried on the bathroom floor.
“What the hell was that?” Maria exclaimed as Larek walked back into the living room. “We were all sitting here when Serena went flying out the door like a bat out of hell. Max tried to stop her, but she shoved him hard to the ground and ran. What is going on?”
“I don’t know. I went to check on her and found her on the bathroom floor crying and shaking. Then I realized that she saying something. I leaned in and she was saying ‘I don’t want to die but I have to’ over and over again. When I said something to her, she jumped but wouldn’t respond. I asked her again what was wrong, and she said something like ‘Its my life and I can’t let you stop me’ then she took off. I don’t know what’s going on with her. All I know is that something bad happened at the Quarry.”
“You don’t think it could be…” Max couldn’t finish.
“Oh no, I would feel it if something happened to Rafe and if someone hurt Michael or Liz, that person would be dead and we’d have no more worries,” Larek said reassuringly.
“We need to find Serena and figure out what’s going on. Where do you think she went?” Isabel asked.
Kyle surprised them all by saying, “Well, she obviously wants to be alone and she’s freaking out about her family. Liz’s place is packed with people so I would think she’d go to Michael’s apartment. You know, to feel closer to him.”
“Wow, you’re probably right. Max, lead the way,” Larek said as they all headed outside.
Sure enough, they saw Michael’s light on. They wanted to get inside to hear if she said anything and luckily they found his bedroom window open. The group climbed in and walked toward the door. The sound of Serena’s voice almost made Maria scream, but she managed to hold it in.
“Khivar, I have made up my mind.”
“So soon? I thought you wanted a day to think about it.”
“I know, but I realized that I had to do the right thing. Tell me when and where and I will meet you there.” 43
“Very well, Serena. I must admit that I admire your strength. Not many people would kill themselves to protect their family. Go to the abandoned military base across from the Lazy Inn just outside of town in one hour. Make sure you bring a car so your family can leave. Goodbye Serena.”
After she turned off her communicator, Serena flung herself onto the couch and cried. Larek started to go to her, but Brody grabbed his arm.
“No, don’t let her know we know. Let’s go to that inn and watch for her. We’re not going to let anything happen to her,” Brody whispered.
Larek frowned, but complied. The rescue team of six climbed back out the window and headed for the inn.
“I don’t like this, Michael. I can feel Serena’s feelings and they’re not good,” Liz said as she paced back and forth.
“I know, I feel them too. I wonder what’s going on.”
“Maybe I can help,” Rafe said.
“What do you mean?” Liz asked.
“I have the power to dream walk people and I can do it when they’re awake too.”
“Well, don’t just sit there then. Dream walk your mother!” Michael nearly shrieked.
Rafe tried to stifle a laugh; his uncle was the most wound up person he’d ever met. He sat down on his bed and instantly connected to his mother. ‘Whoa, something is definitely wrong’ thought Rafe as he was hit with her anger, despair, grief, guilt, love and pain. The strongest emotion was her anger. He could tell that his mother was ready to snap and kill someone. ‘God help the next person who pisses my mother off’ he thought as he continued to try figure out was what going on. Just when he thought he’d found what he was looking for, Serena’s voice boomed, “What do you think you’re doing Rafe? Get out of my head, NOW!” Rafe gulped and did as he was told.
“Well, what happened?” Liz asked as Rafe came to.
“Mom discovered me and kicked me out of her head. Something bad is going on, though. She’s ready to snap. The only good news is that it seems that she has a way to get us out of here.”
“How is she going to do that?”
“I don’t know, Uncle Michael. She has a plan, though.”
Michael could not suppress his smile when Rafe called him ‘Uncle Michael’.
“Let’s just hope it’s a plan that won’t get her killed,” Liz said.
‘I hope you’re right, Aunt Liz. If I saw what I think I saw in her head, my mom’s not going to be around to see me turn five,’ Rafe thought glumly.
“Where is she?” an impatient Maria whined.
“Right below us,” Max answered.
Maria looked down from the balcony and saw Serena pull up in a strange car. ‘I wonder where she learned to drive’ she thought. The group slowly left the motel and followed Serena on foot. Serena stood in front of the base’s front gait with her permanent emotionless expression. Precisely on time, Khivar and Nicholas walked out of the compound with Liz, Michael and Rafe in tow. Bringing up the rear was Tess, Lonnie and Rath.
“What the hell are they doing here?” Isabel wondered aloud.
The others continued to watch as Khivar’s group approached Serena.
“You made it, I see,” Khivar said.
“Did you think I wouldn’t?”
“No, but the others had their doubts. Anyway, here is your family. You can see that they are unharmed. Now, as for our deal, are you ready?”
“Yes, but release them first.”
“Very well,” Khivar said as he shoved Michael and Liz toward her. Rafe quickly escaped from Rath’s grip and ran to his mother.
“Go to the car and drive to Brody’s,” Serena said to Michael as she handed him the keys.
“No, first you tell us what’s going on,” Michael demanded.
“Do not argue with me, brother. Do I as I told you,” Serena commanded in an icy tone.
Michael started to protest, but Liz grabbed his arm and steered him toward the car.
“We can’t just leave her, Liz. They’re going to kill her, I can see it in their eyes.”
“I know, but I can feel Max’s presence. He and the others are around here somewhere and they can help her. Right now we need to do as Serena said.”
Michael gave in and the three climbed into the car and took off.
“Now its time to pay your debt, Serena,” Khivar said.
Serena nodded and watched as Khivar began to build up his power. When he raised his hands toward her, Serena thought ‘This is it. This is when I die.” As soon as they realized what was going on, Isabel and Larek shot up and screamed, ”No!”
Khivar was taken off guard and he accidentally let his energy escape and hit them.
“No!” Serena screamed as she ran toward the two fallen forms.
“Shit, Khivar, we gotta get the hell out of here. Now!” Lonnie screeched.
The five villains jumped into their car and sped away.
“Larek, Isabel, wake up!” Serena screamed as she shook them.
Max was also trying to wake them up as the others stood aside in hysterical tears.
“Izzy, come on, sis. Come back to me,” Max cried.
Serena connected with Larek and was devastated when she realized that there was nothing she could do. She turned to Isabel, but saw the same thing.
“Oh God, Max. They’re gone,” Serena murmured.
Serena lay in bed trying desperately to sleep. She had taken quite a few sleeping pills, but they didn’t work. It was two days after Isabel’s funeral and Larek’s memorial service. Most of the time she and Max walked around like zombies, never showing any emotion. The only time they had cried was the night of the funeral. At the funeral and memorial service, the two stood together numbly, not really aware of what was going on around them. That night, Serena wandered around aimlessly until she found herself in front of Max’s house. She knocked on his window and the two talked and cried and held each other. Serena had never cried so much in either life. After hours of relentless crying, their tears dried up and Max drove Serena back to Brody’s. Both had remained emotionless after that. Brody and Michael were taking care of Kyle and Rafe since their parents were barely capable of taking care of themselves.
“Why, Larek? Why did you have to go and do that? It was my choice!” Serena cried into her pillow.
“I did what I had to,” a voice said from behind her.
Serena screamed bloody murder and rolled over to see Larek and Isabel’s ghosts, along with a tall, dark haired boy’s ghost that she knew from somewhere.
“Oh, God, I’m hallucinating. I think I took one too many sleeping pills,” she said to herself with a crazed look in her eyes.
“No, you’re not. We’re really here, sweetie,” Larek said.
“You’re dead! You’re not real! My mind is playing tricks on me again. Go away! Do you hear me? GO AWAY!” Serena yelled at the top of her lungs.
She curled up into a ball and began sobbing uncontrollably. Brody burst through the door and looked around to see whom she was screaming at, but he saw no one.
“Serena, Serena honey, snap out of it! There’s no one here, who were you yelling at?” Brody asked as he gently shook her.
“Larek a-and Is-a-bel and…Alex w-were here. They were ta-talking to m-me and when I screamed, th-they left,” Serena managed to choke out.
“Shh, its okay now. Nobody’s here. You just go to sleep, I’ll stay with you until you do.”
Brody rocked Serena gently until she fell asleep half an hour later. He sighed and started to leave the room. As he glanced back at her one more time, he thought ‘Warrior or not, she’s still a child and she has her limits.’
“Morning, everyone,” Brody said as he and Rafe joined both Kyles, Liz, Michael and Maria at the Crashdown later that morning.
“Hey Brody, you look like shit,” Michael said.
Liz hit her brother and Brody just smiled.
“We all look like shit these days,” Maria grumbled.
“Well, one of them finally did it.”
“One of who finally did what?” Kyle asked Brody.
“Serena, one of our emotionless twins, finally cracked this morning around one or so.”
“Really? What happened?” Liz asked, concerned for her little sister.
“I was coming back from the bathroom when I heard her scream ‘You’re dead! You’re not real! My mind is playing tricks on me again. Go away! Do you hear me? GO AWAY!’ at top of her lungs and I ran to her room and found her crying hysterically. When I asked what happened, she mumbled some nonsense about seeing Isabel, Alex and Larek in her room and that they were talking to her. I finally got her to calm down and she went to sleep. It was so weird.”
“Alex? She never even met Alex!” Michael exclaimed.
“Yeah, well, that’s what she said.”
Liz sighed. “She and Max have been completely out of it since Larek and Isabel died. I know we were all incredibly close to Iz, but Max and Serena were hit the hardest. Max for obvious reasons, Serena because she blames herself for both of their deaths. Max will hardly speak and I haven’t seen him cry at all. I’m so worried about them.
“Yeah, Mom will hardly even talk to me. I know she cries in her sleep, though. The night of the funeral and memorial service she didn’t get home until dawn,” Rafe said.
“Really? I can’t believe she was out walking for that long,” Michael said.
“Well, she didn’t walk home. I couldn’t sleep so I was in the kitchen when I heard a car pull up. Max dropped her off in his jeep and they both had tear tracks on their faces and their eyes were puffy. Mom was so oblivious that she didn’t even notice me when she brushed against me on the way to her room.”
“Max was crying? With Serena?” Liz asked.
“Don’t even go there, sis. You know that they identify with each other right now. He just lost his sister and she lost the love of her love at the same time by the hand of the same man.”
“I know, it’s just that I want both of them to be able to cry with me, you know?”
“Yeah, I feel the same way.”
“How are we going to get through to them? It worries me to see them like this,” Kyle said.
The others weren’t surprised at his attitude. In the few days since the two deaths, Kyle had become an incredibly sensitive guy. He was an emotional train wreck at Isabel’s funeral.
“I don’t know, I think they both just need their space right now. If their behavior gets any worse than this, though, we will have to do something,” Liz said.
The others nodded in agreement.
“Max, wake up!” Serena whispered as she shook him.
“Huh? What’s going…oh, hi Serena. What do you want?”
“Its just, how do I put this? Basically, I rolled over in bed and saw Isabel, Larek and Alex standing next to my bed. I totally freaked out and when Brody came in, they were gone.”
“Do you think you were imagining it?”
“That’s what I thought at first, but I’m not so sure. Why would I imagine seeing Alex? I never knew him.”
Max sat puzzled with this information. She had a point; she had no reason to imagine Alex.
“Ah, good. You two are together,” Larek said.
Max and Serena both screamed and latched onto each other. As soon as they touched, Max had another flash.
Tears blinded Zan as he walked to his parents’ room. Their funeral had been only hours before and he was starting to loose it. When he opened the door to their room, he was surprised to see Serena crying on their bed.
“Serena? Are you okay?
She jumped and looked over at Zan.
“No, I’m not. You’re parents are…were like second parents to me. I just can’t believe they’re gone,” Serena cried.
Zan began crying again and took her in his arms. Serena was a very close friend and like a sister to him so it pained him even more to see her so upset. The two friends held each other and cried for hours before finally calming down.
“We’re going to get through this, Serena, and we’re going to do it together.”
“I know. Don’t ever forget that I’m here for you if you need me, your majesty.”
For the first time since his parents died King Zan smiled.
“Whoa, I just remembered more.”
“Now is not the time, Max. We have three dead people staring at us.”
“Finally, they pay some attention to us!” Isabel huffed.
“Well, excuse me for being more than a little disturbed that I’m sitting in my room talking to three dead people!” Max shrieked.
“Oh, do not even start with me, Max.”
“Enough! Calm down, both of you,” Alex hissed.
Serena sat staring at the three warily, almost expecting them to disappear and prove that she was going crazy. Meanwhile, Diane Evans stood outside her son’s door in shock. Not only did she hear her Izzy’s voice, but also Max had talked to her and then she heard Alex tell them to calm down. While part of her told her that she was imagining it, Diane knew she wasn’t. She opened the door a crack and used all of her will power to keep her from screaming. Max and that Serena girl were sitting on his bed staring at Alex, Isabel and the friend of Max that had died the same day as Isabel.
“What are you doing here? What do you want?” Serena asked.
“We want to help you and Max destroy Khivar and his followers,” Larek said.
“Yeah, especially the psycho who killed me,” Alex added.
“Why did you come to us?” Max asked as he and Serena exchanged a nervous look.
“That’s simple. While Michael is pretty powerful and Liz has the potential to be extremely powerful, you two are currently the only ones strong enough to take on Khivar, Nicholas and Tess. Michael and Liz are strong enough to handle Lonnie and Rath, but not the others,” Isabel replied.
“Yeah, I guess that makes sense. I’m just glad I’ve seen a lot of weird things in my life and that I know I’m an alien. Otherwise, I would have myself committed,” grumbled Max.
“So, what do you want us to do?” Serena asked.
“Gather the others and be sure to be at Michael’s apartment at one this afternoon. We’ll try to find out Khivar’s location in the meantime,” Larek said.
As he began to fade out, he whispered, “I love you, Serena.”
“I love you too,” she replied to nothing but air.
“Well, let’s round up the troops,” Max said.
“Okay, but get dressed first. I won’t look.”
Before she could be discovered, Diane walked back downstairs with a very confused expression on her face. ‘Something very strange is going on and I’m going to find out what it is,’ she thought determinedly.
“I’m actually afraid of how they’ll react to our news,” Serena admitted as they headed for the Crashdown.
“Well, Max, it does sound a little crazy. Brody might not be too surprised since he heard my ranting this morning, but that doesn’t mean he’ll believe us.”
Max sighed. “I know, but Izzy and the other two will help us prove it. Let’s just get to the Crashdown and see who’s there. We’ll call the ones who aren’t.”
Serena nodded and the rest of the drive was in silence. When they got out of the Jeep, Serena grabbed Max’s hand and gave him a nervous grin. As soon as they stepped through the door, seven pairs of eyes stared at them. Every look contained concern with the exception of baby Kyle who looked thrilled to see his Daddy.
“Good, you’re all here. We need to talk to you, but not here. Why don’t we go to Michael’s? The others are supposed to meet us there in half an hour.”
“Uh, sure Maxwell. Is everything okay?” Michael asked, eyeing his baby sister and best friend warily.
“It will be, I hope,” Serena said quietly.
Liz and Michael studied the two before them. Both noticed Serena’s weight loss, troubled expression, dark circles around her eyes and her extremely pale complexion. Her eyes, though, were the most disturbing. The normally bright and shiny green was replaced with a murky hazel and contained a crazed look. The brother and sister also saw the bags under Max’s eyes, his wild hair, unshaven face and his blank eyes. They were usually filled with such emotion, but they were devoid of that now. What they noticed the most was how Serena was clutching Max’s hand as if her life depended on it and Max did the same.
‘I know things haven’t been the same since my little outburst at Brody’s, but that wasn’t enough to drive him into Serena’s arms, was it?’ Liz thought then shook her head. ‘What’s wrong with me? Of course there’s nothing between them. Damn jealousy.’
“We should go, we don’t want to keep the others waiting,” Serena said.
“Who exactly are we meeting?” Maria asked.
“Some old friends,” Max said with a faint smile.
The teenagers climbed into their respective cars while Serena grabbed Kyle and Rafe so that they could ride with their parents for once. After a while, Serena noticed Rafe staring at her.
“What is it sweetie?”
“Mom, was Larek my father? I felt this really strong connection with him and when he died I felt like a part of me died too.”
Serena fought back tears as she replied, “Yes, darling. Larek was your father.”
Rafe simply nodded and turned to look at the passing scenery.
“What do you think is up with Serena and Max?” Maria asked as she drove Michael, Liz and herself in the Jetta.
“I have no clue, but I don’t think that they’re anything more than friends,” Michael said pointedly while glancing back at his other sister.
“I know, but they’re keeping something from us. I’m also getting weird vibes from Serena, like something’s wrong but she doesn’t know it.”
“Same here, but I can’t put my finger on what it is.”
“What, like she’s pregnant or dying or something?” Maria asked.
Michael and Liz turned to look at each other; both realizing that they’re recent greatest fear could come true. They did not want to lose her.
“Well, you’ve dragged us all over here so can you please tell is what’s going on,” Brody more demanded than asked.
“We have to wait for the others. If we don’t you probably won’t believe us,” Serena said.
Kyle saw the way Serena was desperately trying to star calm and felt his heart brake for her all over again. Before he realized what he was doing, he had Serena engulfed in a tight hug. TO his surprise she didn’t pull back, but actually clung to him. ‘Whoa, déjà vu,’ he thought as a flash hit him.
“What am I going to do, Az? If Khivar finds out about Cera or where she is, it’s all over!” a frantic Serena exclaimed as she paced in his room.
“Stop pacing! You’re making me nauseous,” Az pleaded while watching his god sister freak out.
“Sorry, its just that I promised Zan and Rayana I’d figure out what to do with their daughter before anyone, especially Ava and Khivar, finds out.”
“Have you thought about giving her to a guardian until everything is safe?”
“That’s a thought. Argh! Damn Zan and his inability to control himself. Its bad enough that he was cheating on Ava, but now Rayana is about ready to go into labor. To top that off, Ava is two weeks pregnant! Damn all you men and the positions you put me in!”
“Why did he sleep with Ava anyway? I thought he vowed never to touch her like that.”
Serena stopped and stared at Az.
“What? What’s going on?” he called as Serena stormed out of his room.
“That’s exactly what I intend to find out!” she yelled over her shoulder.
‘Great, I’ve just pissed off the most powerful teenager in the universe. Aren’t I a genius?’ Az thought as he lay back on his bed.
“What the hell was that?” Serena and Kyle exclaimed in unison.
“What was what?” Michael asked.
“Kyle touched me and I’m assuming he had a flash just like I did,” Serena said in shock.
“What was it about?” Liz asked her sister.
“It was when I went to visit my god brother, Az, and I was complaining about Rayana’s and Ava’s pregnancies and I realized that something wasn’t right about the situation and stormed out of the room.”
Max’s face paled. “Pregnancies? Ava and Rayana?”
Serena gave him a weird look and said, “Yeah, haven’t you remembered any of that yet?”
“One small memory, but I didn’t really think about it. How could I have gotten both of them pregnant if I didn’t love Ava?”
Luckily, she was saved from answering by the sound of Larek’s voice.
“Right on time, good.”
Rounds of “Oh my God”, “Holy shit”, “I’m seeing things”, “You were right” and sobs surged through the group as they saw Alex, Isabel and Larek.
After the outbursts had died down, everyone turned to look at Max and Serena who they realized hadn’t said anything.
“Thank God, I was beginning to think we’d been stood up,” Serena said to Larek with a sad smile.
“What do you mean? What the hell is going on here?” Michael demanded.
Max looked Michael in the eye and stated, “They’re the ones we were waiting for.”
“Oh,” was all Michael could see.
“How? Why?” Liz asked as she looked at Alex with tears in her eyes.
“We’re here to help you, Lizzie. God, I’ve missed you all so much,” Alex replied.
“We’ve missed you too,” Maria said through her tears.
“Sorry to break this up, but we don’t have much time,” Larek said as he motioned for the mortals to sit. “We tracked Khivar and his followers to an abandoned house on the north side of town. They’re well aware of the fact that Serena and Max have had nervous breakdowns and plan on using that to their advantage. However, since Serena and Max seem to have calmed down a bit, the odds are in our favor.”
“The reason we’re here is to help prepare you for the battle you’ll face with them,” Isabel explained. “Khivar, Nicholas and Tess are incredibly strong and only Max and Serena are strong enough to take them on. Rath and Lonnie aren’t as strong so Michael and Liz can easily beat them. If, by some miracle, we can train Liz and Michael enough, they could be strong enough to tackle Tess.”
“Why can’t I help? I’m just as powerful as my mother?” Rafe whined.
“No!” Serena and Larek said at the same time.
“We can’t risk you joining me, my son,” Larek said.
Rafe hung his head in defeat while Serena wrapped her arm around his shoulders.
“Hopefully, you’re day to fight will never come,” she whispered into her son’s ear.
He sighed and nodded that he understood.
“I hate to say this, but we need to go. It takes a lot of energy to travel here. We’ll see you all soon. I love you Serena. You too, Rafe,” Larek whispered as he disappeared.
“We love you all,” Isabel said as she and Alex disappeared.
Those remaining sat in silence for a few moments until Serena suddenly gasped.
“What’s wrong?” Liz asked.
“I can feel a presence, one I haven’t felt in a long time. Whoever it is, they’re coming closer.”
The door flew open to reveal a beautiful girl who appeared to be around 18 or 19. She had long brown hair with beautiful amber eyes. The girl glanced around the room until her eyes rested on Serena.
“Hello Serena,” she said in a velvety voice.
“Oh my God, it’s you,” Serena said in awe.
The girl smiled and just looked at Serena as Serena struggled to pull herself together. When she finally began talking, the others were shocked to hear her speaking in Antarian.
“What the hell are you doing here? I thought I told you never to leave Hanar’s unless I or another member of our family came and got you!” Serena screeched.
“I’m sorry, but I couldn’t stay. Hanar found out about you coming here and was royally pissed. He let it slip when I asked him what was wrong and I knew I had to come here. Face it, with Vilondra gone, you need me,” the brunette beauty said.
“I swear to God, Cera! I can’t believe you came, but you’re right. Wait, have all of your powers developed?”
“Yes, but what does that matter?” Cera asked.
“It means that we just might be able to bring back Isabel and Alex,” Serena replied.
“Oh, Isabel is the name that Vi goes by here. Alex was her boyfriend.”
“Oh, the one Tess killed. Well, yeah, I can resurrect them as long as I have their bodies. How come you said just Isabel and Alex?”
Serena fell silent and Cera realized why.
“Oh God, Serena. I’m so sorry. Why did Larek’s body disintegrate and not Vi- I mean Isabel’s?”
Serena shrugged. “I have no clue, actually. Maybe his body was more damaged or maybe it had something to do with being full-blooded Antarian. I really don’t know.”
Cera embraced her aunt and said, “Don’t worry, I’ll at least bring your friends back. One day you’ll be reunited with Larek and it will be forever, but not yet, okay?”
Serena smiled at her niece and nodded.
“Well, is anyone going to clue us in as the what the hell is going on here?!” Michael asked.
Serena drew a deep breath and said, “Guys, may I present Princess Cera Darken of Antar, Zan and Rayana’s daughter.”
Liz and Max sat staring at the beautiful girl in front of them who, in some twisted way, was their daughter.
“How? You’re so young, but you should be at least 54 years old!” Maria exclaimed incredulously.
Cera giggled and replied, “Actually, I just turned 55. When we hit 18 our aging drastically slows and we look pretty much the same until we hit 80, then the aging picks up again, but still nowhere near as fast as humans do. Are you going to introduce me to everyone or not, Aunt Serena?”
Serena smiled. “This is Kyle Valenti, the one Tess named Kyle after; this is Maria Deluca, the woman who stole my brother’s heart; Brody Davis, yeah, the one Larek used to possess; Michael Guerin, my incredible brother and your uncle; you already know Rafe and Kyle. Finally, may I present Max Evans and Liz Parker, your parents.”
Max and Liz held hands and rose to meet their daughter.
“Hi,” Cera said shyly.
Though Liz knew that she wasn’t technically her mother, she couldn’t help but feel like it. Liz grinned and drew her daughter into a tight embrace. When Max joined them, all three couldn’t hold back their tears.
“So, we finally meet,” said Cera while trying to wipe her tears away.
“You are so beautiful,” Max gushed.
“Yeah, well, look at my parents. How could I not be?”
Liz cried even more and hugged her daughter again.
“I know we’re not biologically your parents, but I would like to think as if we were if you’ll think of yourself as our daughter,” Liz whispered.
Cera nodded and said, “I would be honored.”
Serena handed Kyle over to Max.
“Hey Kyle! Did you miss your big sister? I bet you did! I haven’t seen you in two weeks and I know I missed you,” Cera said to her little brother.
“Ahem.” Serena cleared her throat. The three turned and looked at her.
“Cera, I believe we have some work to do.”
“Yeah, let’s get this show on the road,” Cera said.
“What are you going to do?” Kyle asked.
Serena looked around the room and said, “We’re going to bring Isabel and Alex back from the dead.”
“Khivar, I am getting tired of sitting around. When are we going to attack?” an impatient Tess whined.
Nicholas rolled his eyes and muttered, “I really do not like her,” under his breath.
“As I said earlier, Ava, we’re waiting until tomorrow when Max’s parents go to work and Brody leaves Serena alone at his house before we strike. We must go after Max and Serena separately or they could easily destroy us,” Khivar answered.
“How come you’re so scared of that little boy and the fairy?” Rath asked.
“Because, moron, Serena is the most powerful being in the galaxy, at least the most powerful mortal. If we go up against her when she’s at full strength, you and Lonnie especially don’t stand a chance. If Max discovered how powerful he really is, then we’d really be fucked. If he wasn’t one of the royals and Serena had never been born, Zan probably would have been named the protector of the Royal Four.”
“Damn, he’s that powerful?” Lonnie said.
“Well, since we’re not doing anything, I’m going to bed,” Tess said as she stalked out of the room.
“Khivar, why do we have to keep her with us? The gerbil really pisses me off,” Nicholas complained.
“I know. As soon as Serena and the others are disposed of, she’s next on my list.”
“Good, I don’t know how much longer I can tolerate her.” 58
Khivar laughed and sent Nicholas, Lonnie and Rath away. When he was sure they’d gone, he reached into the middle drawer of his desk and pulled out a picture.
“How did it come to this? I never meant to hurt you in either life, but I have no choice. I may love you, but I can’t have you around to destroy everything I’ve fought and killed for,” he said softly to the only picture he had of Serena and himself where they actually looked happy.
Khivar closed his eyes and sighed. He gave the picture one last glance before he put it away. ‘Damn you, Father, for making me do this,’ he thought bitterly. ‘If only Max knew the truth, maybe he’d understand. No, he would never be able to grasp why I had to betray my best friend in the world.’
Once again Khivar closed his eyes and fought back the tears that were ever present since he hated himself for what he’d become. ‘I have to keep my promise, I have to kill them,’ he thought.
With that, his face hardened again and he went to bed, knowing he’d need all of his strength for what the next day held.
“Diane, what’s going on?” Charles Whitman asked as he joined Diane and Phillip Evans, Jeff and Nancy Parker, and Amy Deluca at the Crashdown Café.
“Yeah, darling, you haven’t told us what this is all about,” Philip added.
Diane sighed and stood up to address her friends.
“As you all know, our children along with Michael Guerin and Kyle Valenti are incredibly close. Weird things involving their group have been happening for two years now. I have discovered something today that I think I should share with you. There also some other things that I’ve known about for a while now, but I want to wait for Jim Valenti before I tell you everything.”
“Well, he’s here. Hello Jim,” Amy said.
All of the adults at the table noticed that Jim had gone deathly pale and his eyes were wide with surprise and worry.
“Uh, hi everyone,” he said as he pulled up a chair. “What’s going on?”
As soon as Diane mentioned Max, Jim jumped up and said, “Could you hold that thought? I need to go to the bathroom.”
“Sure,” Diane said.
Amy frowned and followed Jim. Before she could knock, she heard his voice.
“Maria? This is Valenti…Really…Wow, that’s amazing…Freaky. Hey, can you put Max on? Thanks…Max, Valenti here…Yeah, Maria told me…Listen, there’s something you have to know. Your mother has called me, your father, the Parkers, Charles Whitman and Amy Deluca over to the Crashdown to talk about you guys. When I came in she was talking about the weird things that have happened over these past two years and said something about discovering something today that she wanted to tell us…No, I am deadly serious…What do you want me to do?… Yeah, I think she really suspects something…No way Max, nuh-uh, I am not going to be the one to tell them…They’ll kill me!…Look, if you really think they should know then I suggest you all get your butts over here and tell them yourselves…Can’t that wait?…Well, do it and bring them over too…They’re going to have to face their parents eventually!…Isabel and Alex will understand…Yeah, Isabel would be thrilled…I’ll figure out a way to distract them for a while…”
That was all Amy could bring herself to listen to. She walked back to the table in a complete daze. ‘What in the world is going on and why does Jim know all about it? He knows things about my daughter that I don’t. He’s more involved in her life than I am! Damn, I’m rambling in my head again!’
“What were you doing Amy?” Nancy asked, giving her friend an odd look.
“I thought there was something off about the way he was acting and was going to talk to him when I heard him talking on the phone. You’ll never believe what I heard.”
“What?” Jeff asked as everyone leaned in to listen.
“Well, first Maria picked up and she apparently told him something amazing then he asked to speak to Max. Max got on the phone and told him the same thing that Maria did, and then Jim proceeded to tell Max what’s going on and why we’re here. I’m assuming Max wanted him to tell us the truth about what is going on, but Jim insisted that the kids be the ones to tell us. Then he started talking about Alex and Isabel as if they were alive and that’s when I left. I- what?” Amy said when she noticed the others pale. She turned around and saw a very pissed off Jim Valenti standing behind her.
“Who the hell do you think you are, Amy? How dare you eavesdrop on a private conversation!”
“If you didn’t keep things from us then maybe I wouldn’t have to!” Amy shrieked.
“She’s right, Jim. What exactly do you know about our kids that we don’?” Phillip asked.
“Its not my secret to tell so I would prefer it if you would wait until the kids show up and tell you themselves before you get all pissed off.”
On that note, the six pouting adults sat down in silence, refusing to speak until the kids showed up.
“You owe me big, Max,” Jim mumbled as he sat down on the opposite side of the room.
“What did Valenti want? That didn’t sound so good,” Liz said as he hung up Maria’s cell phone.
Max groaned. “Get this, my mother discovered something that she felt she just had to share with all of our parents, plus Alex’s dad. She was talking about the strange things we’ve been involved with over the past two years and stuff only she knows about.”
“Jesus Christ, Maxwell! What are we going to do?” Michael asked.
“First we’re going to bring back Alex and Iz, then we’ll go deal with the adults. I told Valenti that we would tell our parents the truth.”
“Gee, I bet they’re going to be thrilled,” Maria said sarcastically.
“I know, but let’s get this over with first. Okay, Cera, how do we do this?”
“First, I need their bodies. Serena?”
Serena used her powers to make the dirt disappear and brought the coffins up to the surface and beside them. Then Serena took a deep breath and opened them up.
“Oh my Buddha! You can fix him, right?” Kyle asked as he looked at Alex’s corpse.
Cera smiled at the cute human and said, “Don’t worry, they’ll be good as new. Now, everyone stand back.”
Cera walked up to Alex and rested one hand on his head and one over his heart. When she closed her eyes, a brilliant white light shot out from the coffin. Cera stepped back as Alex sat up.
“What in the world? You guys didn’t even warn me!” he exclaimed as Maria and Liz tackled him.
Max, Michael, and Kyle grinned at their long lost brother, ecstatic to have him back again. Cera walked over to Isabel and repeated the process. The first thing she saw was a very alive Alex leaning over her.
“Hey, baby,” he said
Isabel grinned as her brother held her so tight she could barely breathe.
“Oh my God, Izzy, I didn’t know what to do after I lost you. I was so lost,” cried Max as he held his sister.
“Shh, shh. Its okay now, I’m okay,” Isabel said soothingly.
As Serena watched the touching scene before her, she couldn’t help but feel a little jealous. She walked back to the Jeep and climbed into the back seat. Against her will, she curled up and cried. After a while, she felt strong arms holding her and leaned into them.
“Sis, what’s wrong?” Michael asked.
“I’m so happy that Alex and Isabel are alive, but I can’t help but…”
“Resent them a little,” Liz finished for her.
“I know it’s selfish, but I do. I just want Larek back. I really don’t know how to survive without him, I need him so much!”
“Its okay, I wouldn’t know what to do if Max died, so I know how you feel,” Liz said.
“We both do. I’d die if anything happened to Maria,” Michael added.
Serena sniffed and said, “Thanks. Well, let’s go face the firing squad, though I think Cera and I will get off the easiest since they don’t know us.”
The now complete group of friends climbed back into their cars and drove to their second home.
“Well, its now or never,” Max said as he held Kyle and took Liz’s hand.
The diverse family of twelve walked through the doors.
“Hi everyone, we’re ba-ack!” Isabel and Alex said.
They were rewarded with three unconscious women; three bewildered and shocked men; and one hysterical former sheriff. Not too long after that, two of the men were sobbing while the other too tried to wake the women.
“Damn, Maxwell, I didn’t see this reaction coming,” Michael whispered.
“What did you think was going to happen? They’d welcome us home like nothing happened? Or maybe they’d crack up because our deaths were just an elaborate joke,” Alex said.
“I guess you’re right, but I’m not looking forward to explaining this.”
“You’re not alone,” Maria muttered.
The group stood around waiting for the chaos to die down, but when the women came to, they starting screaming at the sight of the “dead” children.
“Mom, Mom, calm down,” Isabel said.
“Are you really here?” Diane asked in a small voice.
“I’m really here.”
“Oh, my baby,” Diane cried as she held Isabel.
Although he was quite freaked out, Phillip joined his wife and daughter in a tight embrace.
“Son, come here,” said Phillip.
Max smiled and joined his family.
Meanwhile, Charles just sat staring at his son.
“How? I don’t understand how this is possible,” he stammered.
Alex smiled and replied, “That’s what we’re going to explain once everyone calms down.”
“Oh, Alex, I thought I lost you!”
“You’ll never lose me, I promise,” Alex whispered as he hugged his father.
Charles nodded and broke down in tears.
While Jeff and Nancy hugged their daughter and Amy tackled Maria, Serena leaned over to Michael and said, “Kinda makes ya feel left out, huh?”
Michael shook his head as he put his arm around his sister. “Nope, I got what I need right here.”
Serena grinned and threw her arms around her big brother.
After everyone had somewhat calmed down, Max stood and said, “I think its time we explain what’s going on.”
“I’ll think I’ll get a drink first,” Phillip muttered.
“I’ll show you the liquor cabinet,” Jeff said as the two walked upstairs.
When the parents were settled with their drinks, Max began.
“What I am about to tell you is unbelievable, but true. For everyone’s benefit, save all questions or comments until after I’m done. Understood?” Everyone nodded. “Good. Well, around sixty years ago on a planet named Antar, there was a young king named Zan. He was one of what they called the Royal Four. The other three that made up the group were his sister, Vilondra, his wife, Ava, and Vilondra’s fiancé, Rath. Rath’s youngest sister, Serena was their protector. Zan’s marriage to Ava was an unhappy arranged one. His true love was Rath and Serena’s sister, Rayana. They even had a child together named Cera.
Vilondra also had a wandering heart and fell for a man named Khivar, who wanted to overthrow Zan. One night, Serena spotted Khivar and his men trying to get into the palace. She woke everyone to prepare for battle. Within an hour, Ava, Vilondra, Rath, Zan, Rayana and Serena were dead.
In an effort to save her planet, Zan and Vilondra’s mother-“ Max stopped and looked at Serena questioningly.
Serena gulped and said, “Ah, well, you see, we kinda suspected that Neo was murdered and had Mara fake her death. Sorry I never told you.”
Max nodded and continued. “Zan and Vilondra’s mother had Zan, Vilondra, Rath, Ava and Rayana recreated as alien/human hybrids so that they could survive on Earth. For some reason, they had trouble with Rayana and had to make her fully human. Queen Mara sent them to Earth in incubation pods to wait for the day when they would return to Antar and bring peace. They landed here in 1947. Serena, however, was taken by Khivar to be recreated as his wife.
Rayana came out of her pod in 1983 looking more or less like a newborn child. She was almost immediately adopted by human parents and given the name Liz.
Zan, Vilondra and Rath came out of their pods in 1989 looking like six-year-old human children. Unfortunately, Rath got separated from the other two and was placed in foster care. Zan and Vilondra got lucky and were adopted. They were given the names Max and Isabel while Rath was named Michael.
Ava came out of her pod later and was taken by the shape-shifting alien named Nasedo. He named Ava Tess and the two didn’t return to Roswell for ten years.
Serena ‘hatched’ a year or so later and Khivar immediately tried to corrupt her but was unsuccessful. Though she was married to Khivar, she met and fell in love with her original husband, Larek. Unbeknownst to Khivar, Serena and Larek had a child named Rafe. Khivar is under the impression that the child is his.
Anyway, back on Earth, Liz grew up thinking that she was a normal human while Michael, Isabel and I knew all too well that we were different. We tried desperately to just be normal until all hell broke loose one day in September of 1999.
Michael and I were eating here when we heard a gunshot. Liz had been mortally wounded and was slipping away. Without thinking, I ran up to her and healed the wound, then asked her to lie about breaking a ketchup bottle. She did, but then told Maria the truth. It wasn’t until Valenti threw Alex and Liz in jail that Liz confessed the truth to Alex. After that, the five of us were bonded. Liz and I were in love and happy, until a new girl at school showed up. Her name was Tess.
From the very beginning, she made it her mission to break us up. Not too long after we found out the truth about her being one of us, the FBI captured me. They tortured me and ran all sorts of tests on me. With the help of Valenti and Nasedo, the gang got me out. It was then that we told Valenti the truth. Kyle was brought into the group when Valenti accidentally shot him and I healed him.
Tess, Michael, Liz, Isabel and I went to the pod chamber, the place that holds our pods, to heal Nasedo who had been badly injured. Afterward, we received a message from Queen Mara telling us who we were and why we were on Earth. I was ‘destined’ to be with Tess and Isabel was ‘destined’ to be with Michael. This drove a wedge between Liz and me.
We’ve faced several battles with our enemies who are known as the Skins over the past year, but our first casualty was at the hand of one of our own. When we all thought that Alex was in Sweden, he was actually at Las Cruces University decoding a book from our planet for Tess. Tess mind warped him into thinking that he actually was in Sweden. After a while, Alex began to come out of the mind warp and confronted Tess about it in front of Kyle. She had screwed with his head so much that there was nothing left. According to her, she tried to warp him again, but he’d had too much and died. She then mind warped Kyle and made him think that Alex was a piece of luggage so he would put the body in the car. She then caused the wreck.
Liz knew all along that Alex had been murdered, but I didn’t want to believe it because that would mean that an alien did it. One night I got so desperate and felt so alone that I- I slept with Tess. She became pregnant with my son and we soon found out that he supposedly couldn’t survive in our atmosphere. We prepared the Granilith, what we thought was our only shot to reach Antar, to leave Earth and said our goodbyes. We had left a tape with Valenti for you to explain everything. When we had only a few minutes left, Michael decided that he couldn’t leave Maria so he left and thank God for that. Liz, Maria and Kyle were outside screaming for us. They ran in and told us that Tess killed Alex. The others left as I argued with Tess. I wanted to kill her, but she used the fact that she was carrying my son to save herself. Then she took off in the Granilith.
That was a little over a month ago. Liz and I were out in the desert several days ago when we saw the Granilith land and Serena stepped out with Rafe and my son, Kyle. Alien pregnancies only last a month. We eventually found out who she was and why she was here, which was to escape the wrath of Tess and Khivar. She was also reunited with Michael. This is when Brody found out, but explaining that would make the story even longer.
The next day, Rafe, Michael and Serena’s sister, that’s Liz, were kidnapped. Khivar had kidnapped them in order to get Serena to kill herself for their release. Larek arrived in the midst of all this confusion. Serena was about to let him kill her when Larek and Isabel jumped up. Khivar lost control and killed the two of them instead. We tried to save them, but it was too late. Oddly, Larek’s body disintegrated, but Izzy’s didn’t.
Earlier today Larek, Alex and Isabel in the form of ghosts visited Serena. She got me and we gathered up the rest of the gang at Michael’s. After they left, my daughter from my first life, Cera, showed up. She has the power to resurrect people as long as she has their bodies. That’s how Iz and Alex are standing here now. Unfortunately, we still have to deal with Khivar, Tess and their people. Well, I think that about covers it. Any questions?”
This time all six parents fainted.
“Well, that went well,” said Serena.
“Oh yeah, better than I expected,” Michael added.
“Totally,” Liz agreed.
“God, you three are so related,” Maria groaned.
Two hours and 35 cups of coffee later, the exhausted families headed for home, with the exception of baby Kyle and Max.
“Liz, wait. Can we talk?” Max asked.
“Okay,” she replied nervously.
Max sat on one side of a booth cradling Kyle while Liz slid in across from him. Max studied Liz for a moment, and then asked, “Would you like to hold him?”
A grin spread across Liz’s face as she nodded enthusiastically.
As he placed his son in Liz’s arms, Max whispered loud enough for Liz to hear, “Kyle, meet your mother.”
Liz immediately felt her eyes tear up at the words. “What did you say?”
“I was just introducing the two most important people in my life to each other properly. No matter who his biological mother is I want you to be his real mother.” Liz smiled and nodded. “Anyway, I haven’t really gotten the chance to thank you for what you did for us. I have always known you were strong, but I had no idea you were that strong. Thank you, Liz. We owe our lives to you. I also want to apologize again for the whole Tess thing. I know, I know, we’ve been over this before, but I just want you to know how much I love you and even though I love Kyle, I still regret sleeping with Tess. I have never stopped loving you…” Max trailed off and tried to gather his thoughts. “What I’m trying to say is that I will love you no matter what and I will continue to love you until the day I die. The whole thing with Larek, Isabel and Alex only makes me realize how little time we have. Sure, Cera could bring both of us back, but not if she doesn’t have a body.” Max stopped again and looked as if he were debating something with himself. Finally, he said, “I know we’re really young and all, but I want to spend the rest of my life with you and I want you to be Kyle’s mother and the mother of the rest of my children.” With that, Max knelt down in front of Liz and reached into his pocket. Liz gasped when he brought out a small box and opened it to reveal a platinum ring with five diamonds in the shape of stars.
“Elizabeth Parker, will you do me the honor of marrying me?”
“I- I- I- uh-huh,” was all Liz could manage.
Max laughed and said, “I take that as a yes.”
Liz beamed and threw her free arm around her fiancé.
“You know that everyone’s going to kill us, right?”
“I don’t care as long as I have you, Liz.”
Liz giggled and said, “Well, are you going to put the ring on me or what?”
“Oh, right,” Max said sheepishly.
As he slipped the ring on her finger, both we hit with yet another flash.
“Rayana, I know that we can’t get married, at least not legally, but I love you so much. I can’t imagine my life without you. So, will you marry me?”
“Zan, are you crazy?” Rayana asked.
“Only about you. Seriously, one day I will marry you. Maybe not in the next ten years or maybe not in this lifetime at all, but I am going to marry you someday,” Zan said firmly.
Rayana was so choked up in tears that all should could do was nod. Zan grinned and held his true love tightly.
“Serena is so going to kill us.”
“Yeah, her and my brother,” Rayana mumbled.
“At least we have each other.”
Liz and Max gazed into each other’s eyes, reveling in the feeling that they were truly meant to be. Kyle’s crying brought them back down to Earth and Max smiled at his son.
“What do you say we stay with Mommy tonight?” Kyle giggled. “I think that’s a yes.”
Hand in hand, the couple walked upstairs with their son, thankful to be together finally.
Later that night, Serena was tossing and turning in her sleep having a nightmare.
Serena crept along the hallway toward Ava’s room where she could hear arguing. As she came to the door, she distinctly heard Khivar’s voice. She furrowed her brow and listened.
“…suspect a thing. You know, that mind warp power of yours comes in handy,” said Khivar.
“Zan and the others might be fooled, but I know Serena and she’ll eventually figure it out,” Ava commented.
“Well, we’ll just have to take care of her before she can say anything.”
“No! I mean, we just have to make sure she doesn’t remember anything. It would be even more suspicious if the most powerful person in the universe were suddenly killed. Besides, it would take all of your strength to make a blast powerful enough to kill her,” Ava said quickly.
Khivar eyed her suspiciously. “Right. Anyway, I’ve already disposed of the baby’s father so he can’t create any problems now. Just keep making Zan think he slept with you, etc. I’ll take care of Serena.”
Ava looked into Khivar’s eyes and whispered, “Brother, please don’t kill her.”
Serena saw Khivar heading toward the door and bolted. ‘Oh my God! Oh my God!’ Serena screamed in her head. As she rounded the corner she slammed into a tall figure.
“Why, hello, Serena,” a deep voice murmured.
Serena gulped and looked up into Khivar’s black eyes.
“Hey,” was all she said as she thought, ‘I am so dead.’
“I know you overheard us, but I’m not going to kill you or anything.”
“W-what are you going to do?”
“Erase your memory of my and my sister’s conversation.”
“Sister? Ava is your sister?” Serena shrieked.
“Yes! Keep quiet!” Khivar hissed.
Serena kept trying to use her powers and was confused as to why she couldn’t until she saw the pendant around Khivar’s neck.
He noticed her eyeing it and said, “Yes, I know how to paralyze your powers for a limited time.”
“That was sealed up! How did you get that? Only Zan, Rath, Rayana, Lonnie and I have access…Lonnie. That’s why you’ve been screwing around with her, isn’t it?!”
Khivar sighed. “You make me sound so…so evil.”
“You are! Jesus, you’re betraying Lonnie, your best friend, me. Hell, you’re probably plotting to overthrow your best friend or even kill him. Of course you’re evil!”
“Serena, I wouldn’t expect you to understand. It kills me to do this, but I have no choice.”
“Oh, right. You have no choice other than to be a traitorous asshole!”
Khivar couldn’t take it anymore and put his hand on her forehead, wiping away the memory of the thirty minutes.
Serena suddenly had on a bright smile on her face and said, “Hello, Khivar. How are you doing?”
“Nooooo!!!” Serena screamed as she sat up in bed.
Brody and Rafe were immediately by her side.
“What happened, sweetie?” Brody asked.
“I just recovered some lost time I had in my past life,” she replied.
“What did you remember, Mommy?”
“Khivar and Ava were arguing and I overheard them. That’s when I found out that Zan wasn’t the father of her child and that Khivar was her brother. He and I argued then he wiped my memory of both conversations. He also had the pendant.”
“What pendant?” Brody inquired.
“Its this necklace that disables my powers for a short time. After the time is up, my powers are back, but weak as long as the pendant is around me. It was lost after I was killed and no one on Antar knows where it is.”
“What does it look like?”
Serena described it and Brody’s eyes widened.
“Serena, I’ve seen Max and Liz with a necklace exactly like that. I think Liz said that they got it in Marathon, Texas.”
Serena paled. “Was it found at Atherton’s place?”
“Yeah, I think that’s the name. Why?”
“We’re all dead,” Serena whispered.

“What do you mean?” Brody asked.
Serena and Rafe locked eyes. A look of realization hit the child as he gazed into his mother’s eyes.
“Oh shit!” Rafe exclaimed.
Brody stared at the four year old in shock while his teenaged mother just nodded.
“Would one of you please explain what the hell is going on?!”
Serena sighed. “Once again, I need to explain this to everyone. Call the others.”
Brody nodded and turned to leave the room, but not before he noticed the tears in Rafe’s eyes. ‘Something is horribly wrong.’
Michael shot up in bed and woke Maria who was asleep next to him.
“What is it Michael?” she grumbled.
“Something’s wrong with Serena.”
“Wh-“ Maria was cut off by the ringing of the phone.
“Hello?…Yeah, Brody, I know…We’ll be there in a few minutes.” Michael hung up the phone and turned to Maria.
“We gotta go over to Brody’s.”
“Now?” Maria whined.
“Yes, now. Like I said, something is wrong with my baby sister.”
Maria realized how serious it was when she met his eyes and saw the fear and worry in them. Wordlessly, they dressed and sped over to Brody’s and were the last to arrive. Michael immediately noticed Serena and her son curled up on the couch with tears in their eyes.
“What’s going on?” Michael demanded.
“Max, Liz, do either of you have the pendant you got in Marathon?” Serena asked quietly.
Liz nodded and pulled it out of her shirt.
“I always wear it.”
Serena closed her eyes and Rafe began to sob.
“No, Mama, no. It can’t be,” he cried.
Serena smiled at her son sadly and took his hand.
“Sis, what’s going on? Why are you asking about the necklace?” Michael asked gently.
“That necklace contains the power to destroy me and my powers,” she stated simply.
She glanced around at the shocked faces and continued. “It was designed as a protection device against all Protectors. Since we have more than enough power to overthrow any planet, that weapon was developed to protect all Royals from us if we became traitorous. The only ones with access to it in our first lives were Zan, Vilondra, Rath, Rayanna and myself. Ava couldn’t get to it because she never consummated her marriage to Zan. What I haven’t told you, because I didn’t remember it until half an hour ago, is that Ava and Khivar were brother and sister. Khivar was also Zan’s best friend. Ava got pregnant by another man and mind warped Zan into thinking they’d slept together. I don’t know why either one betrayed us. Anyway, Khivar convinced Vi to give him the pendant and he used it so that he could wipe those memories from me. In the aftermath of our deaths, the pendant was lost. I’m betting that the little bitch Nasedo took it. Brody told me that you found it at James Atherton’s place, right?” The group nodded. “Fuck. Your buddy must have given it to him figuring that somehow one of you would wind up with it. Bastard always was out to get me.”
“So, what all does the necklace do to you?” Liz asked with a sinking feeling in her stomach.
Rafe cried harder and clung to his mother.
“Well, there are several different effects. If I came into direct contact with it when I was the least bit injured, it would kill me. Being around it for a short amount of time takes away my powers temporarily and weakens them for 24 hours. If I’m around it for long periods of time, it will slowly kill me and nothing can stop it.” She stopped suddenly and looked at the floor.
“What are you saying, Serena?” Michael questioned.
Rafe looked up for the first time and Michael and Liz’s worlds came crashing down at his words.
“Mommy’s dying,” he whispered.
“Father, what are you saying?” Khivar demanded.
“You heard what I said. I want you to overthrow Zan and rule like you should have been doing all along!” Dirk snapped from his bed.
“I cannot and will not betray my King and best friend!”
“You know the Antarian law just as I do; you must carry out a dying person’s last wish or you shall be punished with death yourself.”
“That law is ridiculous and everyone knows it. Zan is getting ready to throw it out.”
“But he hasn’t yet, has he?” Dirk smirked.
Dirk groaned as he felt his life slipping away. He grabbed his son’s arm and hissed, “You will do what I asked, I know you will.”
With that said, the evil man known as Lord Dirk Rige died.
Khivar looked heavenward and muttered, “God forgive me.”
Khivar Rige woke with a start. He’d had that damn dream again, the dream that forced him to relive one of the worst moments in his life. The absolute worst moments, though, were almost too painful to behr.
He could still remember Serena’s piercing howl of fury when he killed Vilondra, the look on his sister’s face when she realized Graner was going to kill her, the way his best friend looked after Graner killed Rayana, and the hatred in Rath’s eyes as Khivar fought with him. Most of all, he remembered the way his own heart broke when Serena was killed.
Khivar had always loved her, and even accepted her marriage to Larek because he treated her well and made her happy. A piece of him died when Serena did, and not even bringing her back as he did could revive him.
Khivar sighed and lay back down. He fell back to sleep with his mind on Serena and his thoughts cursing his father. That was how he’d fallen asleep every night for the past 50 years.
“I can’t ever let you go, Serena,” he mumbled in his sleep.
Tess shook her head at her brother and closed the door. ‘How is he ever gonna kill her when he’s so desperately in love with her?’ she thought.
“How do you know?” Isabel asked.
“I can just…feel it,” Serena replied.
“She’s right.” Everyone turned to look at Liz and Michael.
“What?” Max cried.
“We could feel that something was wrong with her, but we didn’t know what,” Liz said quietly.
Serena gave her a halfhearted smile. “Its okay, sis. You couldn’t have known.”
“Isn’t there something we can do? Like destroying the necklace or something?” Max asked desperately.
Cera shook her head. “No, the necklace has activated this cells in her blood that will slowly destroy her. Distance from the pendant will give her a day or two more, but she is going to die, and soon. I can feel it.”
“Well, won’t you be able to bring her back after she dies?” Alex asked.
“No,” Kyle said suddenly, causing everyone to stare at him. “Her body will be destroyed by the cells after she’s dead.”
“How do you know?” Michael demanded.
“Because he remembers. Don’t you, Az?” Serena said.
Kyle just nodded.
“What? Is everyone a fucking alien now? This is so fucked up!” Maria shrieked.
Serena sighed and said, “Look, we all need some sleep. I have a feeling we’ll be seeing Khivar tomorrow.”
“We’ll deal with this later, Michael. I refuse to die until Khivar and Nicholas are dead and you all have your answers.” The look she shot him made it clear that the discussion was over.
“We’d better do as she says. Khivar, Nicholas and Tess are incredibly powerful and we’ll need all of our strength. Let’s all sleep here for the remainder of the night, okay?” Cera asserted.
Without much reluctance, the group settled themselves in various places around the house.
Cera sighed as she flopped down on the couch in the living room.
“Yeah, Kyle?” Cera looked down next to her at the sleepy jock.
“Do you think we can beat them?”
“As long as we have Serena, yes. Together, Khivar, Tess, Nicholas, Lonnie and Rath possess amazing power. With Serena’s condition, we are slightly weaker, but I have faith that we’ll win this time.”
“I hope so,” Kyle whispered as he fell asleep.
A sleeping Zan was awakened by a tearful Khivar.
“Khivar, what’s wrong? Did your father pass on?” Zan asked, a bit confused because he knew how much Khivar hated his father.
“Yeah, but that’s not why I’m crying,” Khivar mumbled, wiping the tears from his eyes.
“Well, what is it then?” Zan asked his god brother and best friend.
“His dying wish is one that I cannot follow.”
“You know you have to since I haven’t done away with that law yet and that you can’t share it with me.”
“I know, but Zan, its horrible! I just can’t do it!”
“It can’t be that bad.”
“Oh yes it can, believe me,” Khivar muttered.
“Well, no matter what it is, I’ll forgive you for it.”
“No you won’t, not with this one.”
“Khivar, you are my best friend and the closet thing to a brother I have. I’ll forgive you no matter what you do,” Zan said firmly.
Khivar looked into Zan’s eyes and said, “I’m going to hold you to that.”
“Whatever, just let me go back to sleep!” Zan groaned.
Khivar smiled sadly at his friend and left the room.
“Huh? That was weird,” mumbled Max as he woke up.
“What was?” Liz asked in her sleep.
Max just smiled and said, “Nothing, Liz.”
Wrapping his arm around his fiancé, Max went back to sleep.
Across town, five aliens woke and began to prepare themselves for the battle that would came later in the day.
As the sleepy group ate breakfast, Serena studied her sister and Max. She noticed that Michael was eyeing them suspiciously as well. The look they shared clearly said that something was up.
Unable to stand his curiosity anymore, Michael spoke up. “Maxwell, what’s going on with you and my sister?”
Max and Liz started, surprised to discover that there were other people in the room. After Michael’s question registered with them, they both turned bright red.
“What are you talking about?” Liz asked innocently.
“Oh, come off it, Liz! We know something’s up. Serena and I can sense it, remember?”
Liz sunk in her seat and squeezed Max’s hand. “Might as well tell them now,” she muttered.
“What? Tell us what?” Alex asked.
Max looked at Liz, and then turned to their friends. “Well, you see, we’re kinda…engaged.”
“What?!” Michael and Serena hollered in unison.
“Oh my God, Oh my God!” Maria shrieked.
“Married?” Alex and Isabel murmured.
“Cool!” Kyle and Rath exclaimed.
“Congratulations, your majesties,” Brody and Cera said.
After the comments died down, Max added, “She’s also going to adopt Kyle and be his mother.”
“Really? That’s great. You’ll be a much better mother than that tramp, Tess,” Isabel said.
Liz grinned. “Thanks, Izzy.”
“Have you two even thought about this?” Michael demanded.
“Of course we have, Michael. We’re going to get married next month after Liz turns eighteen.”
“Wh- you know what, I don’t even want to know,” Michael mumbled.
Serena gazed at her sister with tears in her eyes. Liz noticed her and asked, “What’s wrong, Serena?”
“Nothing,” she said with a dismissive wave of her hand.
“No, tell me, sis.”
Serena sighed. “I just can’t help but think that I may not be around to see you get married. Do you think that I could maybe perform the Antarian joining ceremony so that you’d be married in one way before I die?”
All Liz and Max could do was nod.
“Alright, then. Brody, I need eleven candles. Make that twelve,” she said as Valenti walked in. “Once you have the candles, give each one of us one.”
Brody searched the house and returned with the candles.
“Good. Everyone get in a circle, but Max and Liz go into the center.”
“What’s going on?” Valenti whispered to his son.
“Max and Liz are about to get married Antarian style and I guess we’re helping.”
Jim raised an eyebrow in surprise, but turned his attention back to Serena.
“Michael, you and I will go around the circle and light everyone’s candles with our powers, but don’t light Max and Liz’s.
Michael did as he was told and took his place in the circle.
Serena stood directly in front of the couple and said, “King Maxwell, do you profess your undying and true love to my sister, Elizabeth? Do you promise to keep her safe from harm and remain true for eternity? Do you promise to put her first and trust in her judgment? Do you promise to be as great a father as you can to your children?”
“By the stars above me, I promise to fulfill my duties as a husband and keep Elizabeth safe and happy.”
“Elizabeth, do you profess your undying and true love to my King, Maxwell? Do you promise to keep him steady and remain true for eternity? Do you promise to put him first and aide him with decisions? Do you promise to be as great a mother as you can to your children?”
“By the stars above me, I promise to fulfill my duties as a wife and keep Maxwell steady and happy.”
Serena held her hand over their joined ones and the Royal seal appeared on their wrists.
“This symbol marks you as one for eternity. To give our love and support to Maxwell and Elizabeth, I ask that their friends and family light Maxwell and Elizabeth’s candles.”
When the candles were lit and everyone’s flames had touched Max and Liz’s, Serena continued. “As the Royal protector and sister of Elizabeth, I now pronounce you husband and wife and proclaim Elizabeth as reining Queen. You may kiss the bride.”
The kiss that was shared between the husband and wife brought tears to all of the women present. It was sweet, yet filled with passion and unimaginable love. Serena turned her head and her eyes met with Larek’s. They smiled sadly at each other and turned to admire their King and Queen.
“They’re so happy,” he whispered.
“They deserve to be after all that they’ve been through. I just I was going to be around long enough to see them grow even happier, and to see Liz as Queen. She’s going to be great.”
“Yeah, she will,” he agreed as a song started to play.
The newlyweds began to dance as the words to “Come What May” started.
Max looked at Liz and mouthed,
”Never knew I could feel like this
Like I’ve never seen the sky before
Want to furnish inside your kiss
Everyday I love you more and more
Listen to my heart, can you hear it sing
Telling me to give you everything
Seasons may change, winter to spring
But I love you, until the end of time
Come what may
Come what may
I will love you until my dying day.”
Liz took over.
“Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place
Suddenly it moves with such a perfect grace
Suddenly my life doesn’t seem such a waste
It all revolves around you.”
Max joined her.
“And there’s no mountain too high, no river too wide
Sing out this song and I’ll be there by your side
Storm clouds may gather and stars may collide
But I love you ( I love you), until the end (until the end) of time
Come what may
Come what may
I will love you until my dying day
Oh come what may
Come what may
I will love you (I will love you)
Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place
Come what may
Come what may
I will love you until my dying day.”
“I meant that, Elizabeth Evans.”
“So did I,” she replied.
Serena smiled and glanced back over at Larek.
“I have to go, sweetie,” he said.
“I know, just be waiting for me when I pass on.”
“Serena, if I have anything to say about it, you will not be joining me anytime soon.”
Serena just shrugged and watched her love disappear again. She looked over at the happy faces of her friends and family and couldn’t help smiling. Little did they know that their happiness would be short lived.
After giving Max and Liz several hours to “celebrate” their union, the gang regrouped in the living room to discuss tactics.
“Serena, you know them the best. What are their weaknesses?” Max asked.
“Well, I know Tess’ weakness is Kyle and the Valentis. Nicholas is cocky and arrogant to the extreme, and Lonnie and Rath are just stupid. A mind warp can easily fool those two. Khivar, however, is complicated. On one twisted level, I’m his weakness. I know that he loves me, but would kill in a heartbeat if he had to. I’m really not sure what his true weakness is.”
The group gave a collective sigh, but Michael squeezed his baby sister’s hand reassuringly.
“Liz, how well versed are you in your powers?” Serena asked suddenly.
Liz thought for a moment. “The fanciest stuff I can do is make a shield and astral project, but I had help with that.”
Max turned to stare at his wife. “Since when can you make a shield?”
“I did it when we were captured. Rafe was really pissed off after he came to and was flinging things around the room with his powers. A letter opener came flying at me and I just put up the shield. I didn’t even think about it.”
Max nodded that he understood and Serena said, “Do you think you could do it again?”
Liz nodded. “Yeah, I’ve done it once or twice.”
“Good. What about you, Kyle?”
Everyone turned to look at him in surprise.
“Uh, I can do a shield, make power blasts and freeze stuff. My mind warps are still pretty weak.”
“What? I still don’t get what the hell is going on with you,” Maria mumbled.
“That’s a long story that we can discuss later,” Kyle said with finality.
“Its must be one hell of a story,” Michael remarked.
Jim just looked at his son and had an uneasy feeling that he knew how Kyle had powers.
“Okay,” Serena continued, “that helps. We’ll definitely need your help. Li- what was that?”
“What?” Liz asked in confusion.
“I think I heard a twig snap on the left side of the house.”
“How the hell did you hear that?” Michael asked.
Serena shrugged. “I’ve always been able to hear, see and smell things far away. Oh God, it’s them. I can smell Khivar.”
“Shit! What do we do?” asked Jim.
“Liz, Maria, Jim, Alex, Brody and Rafe, go hide in the walk-in closet at the end of the hall. If we need any of you, I’ll call you telepathically. Go, now!” Serena ordered.
Alex, Maria and Liz kissed their significant others and ran after Jim, Brody and Rafe. Serena turned back to the others.
“I think its time the king began issuing orders.”
“Right. Cera and Kyle, you two watch the left side of the house and guard the garage entrance. Izzy and Michael, you two take the back; Serena and I will take the front. Be careful and watch each other’s backs. Go!”
Receiving their orders, the troops crept to their stations to wait for the enemy. The wait was not a long one.
“Where are they?” Max hissed at Serena.
Serena rolled her eyes. “Chill out, I only heard them like five minutes ago. They’re probably doing last minute strategizing.”
“Oh,” Max said sheepishly.
The warrior beside him shook her head and concentrated on listening for Khivar. Within seconds, she heard noises coming from the bedroom to her right.
“Shit, they must be going in through a window. Let’s go,” she whispered.
Max and Serena kept low to the ground as they crept to Brody’s bedroom. Serena listened for a moment and confirmed that all five were in the room.
‘Okay troops, they’re in Brody’s bedroom’ Serena said to the others telepathically.
‘Hope that didn’t make them shit in their pants’ she thought, giggling.
Max looked at Serena and whispered, “We’re like five feet away from our enemies and you’re giggling?!”
“Sorry, couldn’t help it.”
Several seconds later, the Calvary arrived.
“Jesus, Serena. That little telepathic thing scared the shit outta men,” Michael mumbled.
Serena had to clamp a hand over her mouth to keep from laughing.
“It seems kinda weird that they all came through the same entrance,” Kyle whispered.
“I heard them, they think that only Brody, Rafe and I are here,” Serena replied.
“Ambush?” Cera asked.
“Ambush,” confirmed Max.
With that, Serena flung the door open with her powers and they all put up their shields.
Khivar and his followers turned to face his wife and her friends.
“Serena, nice of you to join us.”
“Eat me! No wait, you’d enjoy that.”
Rath snickered at that and was sent a death glare from Tess.
“Let’s just get this over with,” Michael muttered.
All hell broke loose with his words. Serena and Max went after Khivar, while Michael took on Rath, Isabel attacked Lonnie, Cera launched her assault on Nicholas, and a very pissed Kyle concentrated on his goal: to beat the shit out of the girl he once called a sister.
Though Khivar took a good beating, he inflicted loads of pain on Max. Serena was lucky and didn’t get it nearly as bad as Max so she took care to hurt Khivar as much as possible.
“You’re not gonna win this time, husband,” Serena growled as she threw him through the air.
“We’ll see about that, wife,” he spat out.
While Michael, Rath, Lonnie, Isabel, Cera and Nicholas were also beating the shit out of each other, the most interesting battle was between Tess and Kyle.
“Why are you fighting their battles, Kyle? You’re not on them, you’re human,” Tess said as the two circled each other.
“Newsflash, bitch, it is my battle,” he said before he shot a blast at her.
“What the fuck?” she exclaimed.
“Azarn Lawi of the house of Sero, here to beat your ass,” he said with a mock bow.
“You little bastard,” Tess hissed as she launched herself at Kyle
Amidst the confusion and flying fists and balls of power, no one noticed that Liz had entered the room, determined to get her revenge on Tess.
That is, no one noticed until Liz sent a deadly jolt of power at Tess that knocked the bitch to her ass, totally devoid of life. All movement in the room ceased as the shocked warriors stared at Liz. Isabel took the opportunity to finish what she was doing and snapped Lonnie’s neck. Lonnie’s companions were too shocked by Liz to do anything about it.
“Liz, honey, what are you doing here?” Max hissed.
Liz just continued to stare at Tess’ body and only looked up to lock eyes with Khivar.
“Rayana,” he murmured.
Liz just nodded and the two groups continued to stare each other down. After what seemed like an eternity, Nicholas shot a blast at Liz, and what remained of the enemy tore out of the house.
“This isn’t over, Serena!” Khivar called over his shoulder.
Serena fought the urge to run after him and turned to her injured sister. Max already had her head cradled in his lap and was trying to connect with her.
“No, Max. You’re in too bad of a condition. Let me heal her,” Serena said softly.
Max began to argue, but was silenced by his brother-in-law’s look. He nodded his head in acceptance. Serena knelt before her sister and connected.
When Cera saw that her “mother” was in good hands, she collapsed to the floor. Kyle was immediately at her side.
“Cera, what’s wrong?”
“Nicholas, the little prick. He did something to my head and it hurts so bad.”
“Let me see if I can help,” Kyle said as he put his hands on her face.
The two quickly connected and Kyle was able to find the spot where Nicholas had “kicked” Cera. He healed as best he could and pulled out of the connection before he lost concentration and accidentally let Cera see flashes from him.
“Wow, Kyle. How did you do that?” Cera asked in wonder.
“Like I’ve said, it’s a long story.”
The two continued to gaze into each other’s eyes until they were brought out of it by Serena’s shriek. Her shriek also brought Isabel out of her thoughts.
“What is it? Is Liz okay?” Max asked, totally panicking.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” said Liz as she sat up.
“What is it, Serena?” Michael asked his little sister.
“Oh, um, can I talk to Max and Liz alone for a sec?” Serena stammered.
“Sure, we’ll go get the others,” Iz said.
Serena nodded and the other four left the room.
“Sis, how did you do that to Tess?”
“I’m really not sure. I came down here determined to at least help kill her and I just felt this boost of energy,” Liz replied.
Serena grinned at the information.
“What is it? Liz is okay, right?”
“She’s better than okay, she’s pregnant,” Serena replied with a twinkling in her eyes.
“Pregnant?” Max and Liz exclaimed in unison.
Serena nodded. “With triplets,” she added.
“So when am I do?” Liz asked, trying to keep her head straight.
Serena arched an eyebrow. “In a month, like all Antarian pregnancies.”
“Mary, Mother of God,” Max muttered before he hit the ground, out cold.
“What happened to Max?” Maria asked as the others joined Max, Liz and Serena in Brody’s disastrous room.
“Good Lord, my room. Those bastard will pay for this!” Brody shrieked as he surveyed the damage.
“What was that for?” he asked after Maria slapped his arm.
“Max is lying unconscious on the floor and all you can talk about is your room?!”
“People pass out a lot around here, I’m used to it!” Brody shot back.
“Enough! You’re making my headache worse,” Max groaned as he sat up.
Isabel rushed to her brother’s side. “Max, what happened?”
Can I tell them? Max asked in Liz’s head.
Liz looked up at him, startled.
Yeah, babe. I’m here.
Wow, this is incredible. How are we doing this?
I don’t know, but Serena could so I figured that we could as well. Anyways, can I?
Liz grinned. Of course.
“Well?” Michael asked impatiently.
“Well, Liz and I have another announcement to make.”
“I think I’d better sit down,” Michael, Maria and Cera said in unison.
“Here goes…Liz is pregnant.”
Michael rocketed out of his seat and looked ready to explode.
“Wait, there’s more,” Serena said with an amused look on her face.
Michael glared at his youngest sister and turned back to his other one.
Liz drew a deep breath and said, “Well, its going to last a month like all Antarian pregnancies. Plus, I’ve having triplets.”
“Oh my God!” was the collective response.
While the rest of the group sat in stunned silence, Serena once again burst into giggles.
“Are you okay, Serena?” Max asked.
“I’m fine. Do you realize that in a month’s time you will be the father of a two-month-old child and three newborns? You’re parents are going to get a kick out of that!”
Max and Liz went green.
“She’s right; they’re going to kill you!” Kyle exclaimed.
“Speaking of killing,” Isabel said, “you did quite a number on Tess. Would you care to explain to the class?”
“Finally! I thought I was the only one who wanted to know,” Maria said.
Kyle sighed. “Fine, I might as well tell you all now. You know how my mother left when I was little?” Everyone nodded and Jim flinched. “Well, there was a reason. She was an alien.” Jim paled, but didn’t say anything. “She contacted me a few weeks ago in my dreams and explained everything. Mom said that she was a close friend of Mara’s. Mara sent her here seven years before the four of you hatched so that she could keep an eye on the pods. She came to Earth with no intention whatsoever to get involved with a human, but that all changed when she met Dad. They married and had me. Mom was also a friend of Sero and Via, the rulers of another planet in the same system as Antar. They were Az’s parents. Graner killed Az the same day as the rest of the Royals. Since they had been unable to recreate him, they begged Mom to put his essence in me while she was pregnant. She did, but to insure my safety, my powers would not show until I connected with her, but I guess Max worked just as well. Anyways, for a while everything was perfect, then Khivar found out that she was here. To protect my father and I, she returned to Antar and made us think that she’d just walked out.” Turning to his father, he added, “I’m sorry she never told you and that I didn’t either. I just wanted to protect you.”
Though he was crying and totally upset, Jim nodded and embraced his son. The others just watched the father and son with awed expressions on their faces.
“I wanna be an alien now! I feel so left out,” Maria whined.
“Me too,” Brody agreed.
“What about you, Alex?” Maria asked.
“I already am one. Cera did raise me from the dead, after all.”
“Guess it’s just you and me,” Brody said, putting his arm around Maria.
“Great,” Maria muttered sarcastically.
“Damn it!” Khivar exploded as he flung several chairs across the room with his powers.
Nicholas and Rath flinched, but knew better than to say anything.
“That damn Rayana has interfered for the last time. She’ll be the first to die.”
Nicholas nodded. “Of course, Khivar.”
“Don’t ya think it’s a little strange that lil’ Lizzie suddenly became so freakin’ powerful?” Rath asked.
Khivar and Nicholas turned to stare at him.
“The idiot’s right,” he muttered to himself.
Khivar was silent for a moment, lost in thought. An idea dawned on him.
“Maybe she’s pregnant,” he suggested.
“This should be interestin’.”
“Goodnight, Kyle,” Liz whispered as she lay the baby in the new crib in her room.
Liz turned to her husband.
“We need to tell our parents in the morning. I don’t like having to sneak the two of you up here.”
“Neither do I. Hey, do you think there’s any pie left downstairs?”
“Of course, I’ll be right back.”
She gave Max a quick kiss and headed downstairs. Liz bent over to look in the refrigerator and jumped when she felt arms go around her waist—arms that didn’t belong to Max. She whirled around, ready to attack, only to find herself looking at a surprised Sean DeLuca.
“Jeez, Parker, I’ve been gone for three weeks and this is the welcome I get,” he said playfully, leaning in for a kiss.
Liz quickly sidestepped him.
Liz sighed and looked anywhere but Sean.
“What’s wrong? Are we not together now or something?” Sean asked, getting upset.
“No Sean, we’re not together anymore.”
“Max and I, well, we’ve gotten back together.”
“What? The guy broke your heart more than once and you’re dumping me for him?! I don’t see why you put up with that dick,” Sean said in disgust.
“Don’t you dare talk about my husband like that!” Liz hissed, immediately on the defensive.
Sean’s eyes bugged out and his jaw dropped.
+Liz? You okay?+
+Yeah, but Sean’s here.+
She could feel Max’s frown through their connection.
+Did I forget to mention that I never broke it off with him?+
+Sorry. The whole thing between you and me didn’t start until he had left for California. I was too caught up in us to talk to Sean. Don’t worry; I know how to take care of him.+
“Sean, are you okay?” Liz asked.
“You’re married? Since when?” Sean hollered.
“Since today,” Max answered from the top of the stairs.
He joined the other two and wrapped a protective arm Liz. Sean just shook his head.
“How the fuck do you get so lucky, Evans? You screw over and abandon the greatest girl in the world time after time, and the minute I leave, not only do you win her back, but also you marry her! There’s something really strange about everything that involves the two of you and your friends and I’m gonna find out what that is. Believe me.”
With that, Sean turned on his heel and stormed out of the café. Liz leaned into Max and groaned.
“Sometimes I really can’t stand him,” she mumbled into Max’s shoulder.
Max laughed and turned to start up the stairs.
“C’mon, let’s go see if our son is asleep yet.”
Liz’s face lit up at those words and started up the stairs. Her smile vanished when she heard a throat clear above her. Max and Liz looked up to find Jeff and Nancy Parker staring down at them.
“I think you two have some more explaining to do,” Jeff said.
“Shit,” Max and Liz muttered in unison.
“We’re waiting,” said Jeff impatiently as he and Nancy watch the two teens pace in front of them.
+Might as well call your parents and get this over all at one time+ Liz said in Max’s head.
+Yeah. Be right back+
Max left the room and entered Liz’s. Jeff and Nancy looked at Liz questioningly as to why he suddenly left.
“Max went to call his parents. They need to hear this as well,” Liz said quietly.
Nancy raised an eyebrow.
“Jeff, can I talk to you for a second?” she asked as she pulled her husband into the kitchen.
“What do you think is going on with them?”
Jeff stared at her.
“You mean besides the fact that they’re aliens?” he asked dryly.
“Of course! You heard them, they have a son.”
“They were talking about Kyle and unless I’m mistaken, Kyle is the product of Max and that blonde alien tramp.”
“But Max said ‘our’ son. It’s not like they incapable of hiding something like that from us. What if Kyle is really Lizzie’s?”
“I highly doubt it. Look, just wait until they tell us what’s going on before you start freaking out.”
“Freaking out? I am not freaking out!” Nancy shrieked.
Jeff sighed, but was cut off by Liz’s voice calling, “Mom! Dad! Diane and Philip are here!”
“Since when does she call them by their first names?” Nancy hissed.
Jeff shrugged and led his wife back into the living room. After greeting each other, Diane asked, “What’s going on?”
+As I’ll ever be+ Max mumbled.
“Mom, Dad, Jeff, Nancy, we have some things to tell you. Um, this morning Liz and I kinda…um…we…uh…” Max looked to his wife for help.
“We got married. Married by Antar law, at least,” Liz finished.
All four parents started, but Max held up his hand.
“We have two more things to tell you before you speak. First of all, Liz is adopting Kyle so that she’ll be his mother in every important way. Since Liz killed Tess this afternoon she won’t be a problem.”
The adults stared at the petite and sweet girl in shock.
“The other thing you need to know is that…I’m pregnant with triplets and due in a month,” Liz said in one breath.
A stunned silence fell over the room.
+Well, they’re awfully quiet+
+Yeah, the calm before the storm+ Liz replied.
Max gave her a nervous half smile and squeezed her hand.
Finally, the silence was broken.
“Yo, Lizzie! Your window was open so I thought I’d—Oh, hi Max, everyone,” Ava said as she walked into the room.
The adults just stared at her.
“What’s their deal?” Ava asked.
“We just told them that Liz and I got married yesterday, that Liz killed Tess, and that Liz is pregnant with triplets.”
Ava raised an eyebrow. “I’m impressed.”
Liz grinned and hugged the pink haired girl.
“What are you doing here, Ava?” she asked.
“Well, I heard Khivar and his peeps was givin’ yous hell so I thought I’d drop by and see if I could help out. I didn’t miss the fight, did I?”
Max smiled wryly. “Well, the only ones dead are Lonnie and Tess. That still leaves Nicholas, Rath and Khivar.”
Ava nodded and said seriously, “I also heard about ‘Rena. How’s she doing?”
Liz sighed and shrugged. “I don’t know. She’s so stubborn and won’t let us help her. How do you know her?”
“She knew Zan and kept in regular contact with him. That’s why he refused to go to the summit—she told him not to. I talked to her quite a bit, but we never told Lonnie or Rath that we had a connection to Antar. We kinda figured they’d freak.”
“Yeah, they probably would have,” agreed Liz. “So, how long are you here and where are you staying?”
“I thought maybe I could stay with you, if it ain’t a problem.”
Liz and Max looked at each other.
“I don’t know, we’re probably staying with Michael tonight. Could you deal with staying there?” Max asked.
“Sure, I ain’t picky. Alls I need is a place to sleep and I’m cool. S’ok if I put my stuff in the Jeep?”
Max nodded. “Yeah, I think we’re done here. Our parents need time to digest this,” he said, motioning at the still silent adults.
Liz and Ava nodded, bid the adults goodnight, got Kyle from Liz’s bedroom, and the four walked out the front door. The adults just stared after them.
Diane was the first to speak. “What just happened here?”
“I think we’ve lost our little kids,” Nancy whispered.
“That’s for damn sure,” Jeff and Philip muttered in unison.
“Larek?” Serena cautiously called into the dark bedroom.
She frowned and lit up the room with her powers. The sight before her made her gasp. The room was covered with hundreds of Yamadas (think red roses) and the ceiling had vanished, making the twinkling stars above her visible. Serena began to cry as Dian vines (think ivy with tiny white flowers) snaked up her walls, covering them. She cried further when the back wall of her bedroom turned into a giant waterfall, its ruby red waters making the soothing sound she loved so much. The light she made vanished and was replaced by the soft glow of candles floating in the air.
“Do you like it?” Larek asked, walking up from behind to slip his arms around her waist.
“I love it,” she whispered.
Larek smiled and waved his hand in the air. Music that Serena had never heard before began to play.
Till my body is dust
Till my soul is no more
I will love you
“Where did this music come from?”
“Earth. In the future.”
Serena didn’t even bother to question it.
Larek turned her around and whispered, “Dance with me.”
All Serena could do was nod.
Till the sun starts to cry
And the moon turns to rust
I will love you
The two melted together as they danced, completely in synch.
But I need to know
Will you stay for all time
Forever and a day?
And I'll give my heart
Till the end of our time
Forever and a day
And I need to know
Will you stay for all time
Forever and a day?
And I'll give my heart
Till the end of our time
Forever and a day
Till the stars fill my eyes
And we touch the last time
I will love you
I will love you
I will love you
When the song was over, Larek brought his love over to sit on the bed, then knelt before her.
“Serena, I’ve loved you since the moment I first saw you. I’ve always known we were soul mates and I can’t imagine living my life without you. So, um, will you marry me?”
He pulled a diamond and sapphire headband (think hippie/Indian style, only fancy) and put it on her head.
“Yes! Of course I’ll marry you!” she cried.
Larek smiled as his fiancé wrapped her arms around him. He had everything he’d ever wanted.
“Oh God!” Serena moaned as she awoke.
She’d been dreaming about the night Larek proposed to her in her last life. Just thinking about it made her miserable.
“What’s wrong, sis?” Michael asked from the doorway.
Serena looked up at him with a crushed look.
“You can’t live without a heart, right?”
Her brother could only nod.
“What happens when my body realizes that?” she asked as her voice cracked.
Michael rushed to her side and held the small girl as she fell apart in his arms.
“God, I want to die! Just let me die!” she cried into his shoulder.
“What about your son? Liz? Me? We’d be devastated to lose you, Serena.”
Serena gave a small laugh.
“I’m as good as dead anyways. If the disease doesn’t kill me first, Khivar will. I just wish it would happen soon,” she mumbled.
Michael sighed and closed his eyes.
‘What am I going to do with her?’
A knock at the door interrupted the sob fest.
“Liz’s here,” the brother and sister said together.
Michael pulled his baby sister to her feet and they went to answer the door.
“Hey guys—Ava! What are you doing here?” Serena asked in surprise.
Ava grinned and hugged the sickly girl.
“Just came by to check up on you and to kick some ass!”
“Its good to see you in person finally.”
“So, what are you four doing here at this time of night?” Michael questioned.
Max and Liz looked at each other, and then turned back to their friends.
“Well, we need a place to stay tonight.”
“Oh. I guess you two dropped the bomb on your parents.”
“How’d it go?” Serena asked, curious.
“I really don’t know. Ava showed up and we left before they even had a chance to recover from their shock.”
“Yeah, thank God Ava showed up when she did. Otherwise we’d be screwed.”
Ava beamed proudly.
“I knew I had to be good for something.”
Liz caught Serena’s eye and saw the pain and devastation behind her happy façade and made a mental note to talk to her about it later.
“So, yous gonna let us crash here of not?”
“Oh, yeah. Come in, make yourselves at home, mi casa es su casa.”
“So cornball,” Liz and Ava muttered and grinned at each other.
“So,” Ava said after she sat down on the couch, “what’s up?”
The other teens looked at each other and laughed.
“Let me go put Kyle down in Michael’s room and I’ll tell you all about it,” Liz said.
She returned shortly and sat in her husband’s lap.
“Well, it all started on a trip of Max and mine to the desert one night…”
The group was unaware of the three pairs of eyes watching them from across the street.

“You sure ‘bout this, Khivar?”
“Don’t be a wuss, Rath. You aren’t having second thoughts about killing your sister and the child she’s carrying, are you?” Khivar asked mockingly.
Rath quickly looked at his feet. “No, of course not. I wuz just wonderin’.”
His leader rolled his eyes and concentrated on unlocking the door. Khivar, Rath, and Nicholas silently crept into the dark apartment. Feeling a familiar presence, little Rafe shot up in Michael’s bed and stared wide-eyed at the bedroom door. For a moment he thought that he was imagining things, but a creaky board told him otherwise.
“Oh no,” the young prince moaned and slipped out of bed.
Rafe peeked through the crack in the door and had to hold back a scream when he saw his stepfather, loser uncle, and mortal enemy advancing toward his sleeping mother and family. He reached for the phone, but realized that it would be too late when he saw Khivar stand over Liz.
“Leave her alone!” the four year old bellowed, sending out a blast of energy that knocked the three men to the floor.
Liz, Ava, Max, Serena, and Michael all awoke with a start.
“What the—Rafe!” Michael gasped as his eyes focused on his small nephew standing over the bodies of their enemies.
“Rafe,” Serena murmured. “What did you do, honey?”
Her child looked at her with eyes as big as saucers. “They were gonna kill Aunt Lizzie, Mama. I had to do something, so I focused all of my…my anger at them and a burst of energy came out of my hand. I don’t really know how I did it. Mommy, are they dead?”
Shaking, Max bent over the three bodies and took their pulses.
“Well?” Liz asked her husband.
“Rath and Nicholas are dead, but Khivar is still alive. Just barely, though.”
“Figures,” Ava muttered.
Serena stared at her husband’s vulnerable form and knelt before him. Taking a deep breath, the young Queen placed her hands on his forehead and connected. She was instantly bombarded with tons of flashes.
**A young Khivar and Zan were goofing around on the beach when Khivar looked up and saw Serena.
“Who’s that?” he murmured in awe.
Zan looked over at his good friend and smiled. “That’s Serena. You know, my protector?”
“She’s beautiful,” Khivar replied, completely head over heels for her.**
** “What do you mean ‘engaged’?” Khivar asked Ava, his heart breaking.
His sister sighed and put a comforting hand on his arm.
“Serena’s engaged to Larek. They’re going to be bonded next week,” she said softly.
Khivar sunk to the floor and began to sob.**
** “Father, what are you saying?” Khivar demanded.
He grabbed his son’s arm and hissed, “You will do what I asked, and I know you will.”
With that said, the evil man known as Lord Dirk Rige died.
Khivar looked heavenward and muttered, “God forgive me.”**
** “Well, we’ve won,” proclaimed Graner (Nicholas), surveying Zan, Rath, Vilandra, Rayana, Ava, and Serena’s bodies.
“Yeah,” Khivar mumbled. “I, um, I need to be alone for a little while.”
“Yes, sire. I would expect that you would want to dispose of their bodies yourself.” With a bow, Graner left Khivar alone with the six bodies.
As soon as his second was gone, Khivar looked at his former friends and moaned, “My God, what have I done?” **
Finally, Serena found herself in a black space filled with a silvery mist that swirled around her.
“Khivar!” she called. “Show yourself.”
“Leave me, Serena. Just let me die in peace,” his weary voice replied.
“No. I want to talk to you. Show yourself!” she commanded.
“Fine.” A moment later, Khivar appeared before her. “What do you want, Rena? Come to mock me? Point and laugh? Or maybe you’re come out of the goodness of your heart? Well, I don’t need your sympathy. Just let me die and then you can go on and hate my memory forever.”
Serena’s hard expression softened. “I don’t hate you, Khivar. Believe me, I really want to, but I just can’t. I want to understand why you did this to us, why you betrayed your best friend. I know what your father you to do. What didn’t you go to Zan? He could have helped you.”
Her husband hung his head. “You know I couldn’t have told him—it’s against the law. I had to keep it to myself. However, I did warn him that I had to do something unthinkable. He promised to support me, but as you know, he didn’t keep that promise. I had no choice then but to attack. Can I ask you something? Or rather, two things?”
“Am I really Rafe’s father?”
His wife’s eyes widened. She had hoped that she would never have to answer that question.
“No,” she answered.
“I thought so. My question is: are you dying?”
“How did you know?”
He shrugged. “I can just feel it. I guess its because I’m dying too.”
“I don’t think either one of us has much time left. I feel like I’m already dead,” Serena admitted.
Khivar smiled understandably, a rare thing. “That’s because Larek is dead and waiting for you on the other side. You feel like you’re dead because your heart died when he did.”
Serena’s eyes misted over. “I feel like a monster for it. I mean, I still have Rafe, Michael, Liz, and the others, yet I just can’t go on living. No matter how much I love them and vice versa, it’s just not enough. Am I a horrible person for feeling that way?”
Khivar’s heart broke at the anguish in her voice. He drew her into his arms and whispered, “I’m not exactly the best person for you to ask, but no, it doesn’t. As jealous as I have always been, I do realize that he’s your soul mate, your other half. Its only natural for you to feel lost.”
The two stood in a comfortable silence for the first time in the many years they’d been married. Khivar was the first to break the silence.
“You better go. I won’t last much longer. Goodbye, Serena.”
“Goodbye, Khivar. Good luck in the afterlife,” she whispered and broke the connection.
Khivar drew one last breath and died, finally free of his demons.
“He’s dead,” Serena told the others, who had been joined by Kyle, Cera, Brody, Isabel and Alex.
“What were you doing in there?” Liz asked.
“Making peace and getting answers,” she replied. “He wasn’t evil, he had just lost his way.”
Before anyone could respond, Serena collapsed.
“Serena!” Michael cried. “What’s wrong?”
“Time for what?” Kyle asked thickly.
“For her to die,” Cera said, staring at her aunt.
“No,” Max and Liz gasped in unison.
“No, Mommy. Not yet, please,” pleaded Rafe.
Serena smiled weakly. “I’m sorry honey, but its time that I joined your father.”
“But, Max and Cera can heal you or something,” Michael tried to reason.
“No! There’s nothing you can do for me now, you hear me? Let me speak.” Serena looked at each individual as she spoke to him or her. “Kyle, watch after your father and Cera, okay? They need you. Cera, thank you so much for all that you’ve done. You’ve become a beautiful and caring woman. I have a feeling that you and Kyle are going to get along great.
Izzy and Alex, you two are so special to me. Thank you for all of your help. Take care of each other and never take each other for granted. And Iz, remember that Vi didn’t betray us on purpose. I never want you to forget that.
Keep an eye on my siblings for me, Maria. Michael loves you so much and I want you to keep him in his place, okay? And, Max, you be a good daddy and watch my sister. I love you as my brother, I always have. You’re going to be a great king. Brody, watch after our son, okay? Rafe likes you a lot and he’ll need you. Rafe, baby, be good for Brody and all of your aunts and uncles. I love you so much and I hate to leave you, but its time. I’ll always be with you.
Michael, I love you more than you know and I’m so happy that you finally found your dream girl.” Michael gave her a questioning look. “In your first life, you always talked about finding a girl who was a little crazy, stubborn, beautiful, and kind, and now you have. Hold on to her, she’s so precious.”
Serena turned her gaze to her sister. “Liz, I also love you more than you know. You have no idea how happy I am that you found your soul mate in this life too. I want you to be a mother to Kyle because you should have been his mother all along. Take care of the little ones you’re carrying, okay? You’ll be a great queen…” Serena said as her voice trailed off.
Michael continued to sob as he held his baby sister’s frail body in his arms. Liz held Serena’s hand and clutched Rafe to her side as she broke down in a hysterical fit of tears.
“No! You promised us that you would never leave us! It may not have been in this lifetime, but it still counts. You promised!” Liz cried as she clung to Serena.
“Sis, I have to go. I have finally fulfilled my duties protecting the Royal Four. Now I get to be with Larek, and Mom and Dad. It’ll be my little escape. I think I deserve a nice, quiet, relaxing escape, don’t you? I’ll wait for you all in eternity, but I hope the wait is long. Let me…” her voice trailed off again.
The others all watched with tears in their eyes as Serena passed from this life to eternity.
With her last breath, Serena said, “I love you all.”
To Michael and Liz’s dismay, their tiny sister died.
“No! Please, don’t go!” Michael cried as her stroked her face.
“Serena, don’t leave us!” Liz added as her brother took her in his arms.
Max sat gazing at the small girl who had sacrificed so much to save him and his friends, and felt undeserving. She had sacrificed her life in two lives to save him, and managed to save his soul as well in this one. He knew that he would never forget her and would love her forever. Max’s tears turned into racking sobs as he cried over the tiny angel that lay before him.
“How do we go on without her?” Isabel cried through her tears.
“We survive, just like she always did,” Kyle answered.
Serena watched her friends and family grieve over her and smiled as Larek offered his hand. Though she hated to leave them behind, Serena was happy that she finally could be with her true love and would for all eternity.
