Summary: A different twist on “Meet the Dupes”.

Part 1

5 people, 4 of which look like the pod squad - except they're wearing punk clothing - come up the stairs from the subway in New York City. The girl who doesn’t look like anyone from the pod quad is Calie. She also looks like a punk. Her hair is just past her shoulders, and dark red with black streaks. She has both eyebrows pierced, and three earrings at the top of each ear. She and Zan are all over each other. They pass by a fruit stand. The Max look-a-like, Zan, causes the stand to fall. As the vendors gather the fruit, the Isabel look-a-like, Lonnie, steals money from their cash register. The group of five continues walking down the street. Zan puts his arm back around Calie. They walk past a street punk who eyes up the Lonnie.

“Hey, what's up, girl?”

“What's up, man?”

“You look good!”

The Michael look-a-like, Rath, smiles at this comment.

“She knows it. Yo, gimme the rock, G.”

The street punk tosses his basketball to Rath, who keeps it and continues walking down the street

“Hey, yo! My man! My ball!”

Rath turns to Zan.

“They contacted us again last night. Same invite. We gotta tell 'em something.”

“Tell 'em no.”

Lonnie looks confused.

“Yo, you sayin' we ain't going to the summit?”

“That's what I'm saying.”

Rath is furious.

“Yo, that's messed up, duke. This is the only time we've ever been contacted.”

“Whatever. That's it.”

The Tess look-a-like, Ava, speaks up.

“We tell 'em no, they won't ask again.”

“Tell 'em hell no.”

Rath is getting even angrier.

“What is up with you, man? I'm tired of you. I'll go by myself!”

“They don't want the number 2. They want the royal four.”

“Why don't we go and see what they gotta say? Why don't we go and get the answers?”

“What if it's a setup?”

“No, it's not a setup! They need us!”

“I'm the man. Don't forget.”

Calie and Lonnie step in before Zan and Rath start throwing punches.

“Yo, guys. It's been a mad long day.”

“Yeah, lets just chill.”

Rath calms down.

“Yeah. You the man.”

They all start walking down the street again. Rath looks at Lonnie with an evil smile, and she looks back at him with the same evil smile. She throws the basket ball into the street. Zan goes to grab it, but Rath pushes him down and uses his powers to make a truck come at Zan very quickly. Calie grabs Ava and dives to Zan’s side. Suddenly Zan, Ava, and Calie disappear just before the truck can hit them. Lonnie looks surprised, but Rath just looks angry.

“What the hell?”

“When’d she learn that?”

“We gotta find em.”

Calie, Zan, and Ava reappear a few blocks away from where they were. Zan and Ava are shocked.

“How’d you do that?”

“Just learned it. Cool huh?”

She turns to Zan and makes sure he’s alright.

“I can’t believe this. They tried to kill you!”

“They didn’t thanks to you. That’s my girl!”

Ava gets very worried.

“Yo, we should split. They’re gonna try again.”

“Let’s go to Roswell.”

“What for?”

“The others are there. They can help us.”

Zan doesn’t seem to like this plan.
“We don’t need no help.”

“We do! Those two are mad crazy right now. We can use all the help we can get.”

“Hey, I’m the man! I call the shots! We don’t need those rejects!”

“I’m sorry babe. This is for your own good.”

She punches him hard in the face. It knocks him out. She turns to Ava.

“You with me?”

“Yeah.”

“Okay. I’ll need your help to get all the way to Roswell. Gimme your hand.”

Ava takes Calie’s hand.

“Let your energy flow into me.”

They each take one of Zan’s hands. After a few minutes they disappear. They reappear in the UFO center in Roswell. They are all unconscious. The UFO center is closed and only Max is the only one there. He finds Calie, Zan, and Ava. At first he is very confused, but then he remembered Michael telling them about the other set of pods. ‘But who is this other girl? She doesn’t look like any of us.’ But when he looked closer he realized that she actually looked a little bit like each of them. He took out his cell phone and called the others, including the humans. Everyone should know about this. Suddenly Zan starts to wake up. He sees that Calie is unconscious.

“Oh shit! Baby, wake up! Cal, wake up!”

Ava wakes up because of Zan’s shouting.

“Yo, what’s your problem?”

“Where the hell are we?! What’d you two do?!”

“We’re in Roswell. I think.”

Max steps closer to them.

“Yes, you are. Who are you?”

“I’m Ava. This is Zan and Calie.”

Zan isn’t paying any attention to Max. He is still trying to wake Calie.

“Why won’t she wake up?”

“It took a lot out of her. She’s gotta be weak.”

He pulls Calie into his arms and holds her close, as if he’s trying to protect her. He doesn’t seem very trusting.

“You are you?”

“I’m Max.”
“Where are your others?”

“On their way. Where are yours?”

“On their way I would think. They’re tryin’ to kill me. I didn’t want to come here, but Calie made me.”

“We didn’t know you’d look like us. Who is she? We don’t know anyone that looks like her.”

“She’s different. A mix of the four of us. Can’t ya tell?”

“When I look close yeah.”

Michael and Maria walk in.

“What’s up Maxwell?”

He sees Zan, Ava, and Calie.

“They are. Michael, Maria, meet Zan, Ava, and Calie. They’re the other set.”

“Wow.”

Calie starts to come to.

“Cal, baby? You okay?”

“No. My head hurts.”

“I bet.”

Zan uses his powers to help Calie’s head.

“Better?”

“Yeah.”

Isabel, Tess, Alex, and Liz come in. They look very confused, but before they can even ask Max tells them what’s going on.

“This is Zan, Calie, and Ava. They are part of the other set. Rath and Lonnie are trying to kill Zan. Calie is a mix of all of us. That’s why we don’t have one of her.”

“Okay.”

Part 2

Isabel is still a little confused.

“So Calie, you’re the only… you. There isn’t someone else out there that looks like you?”

“That’s right. It’s just me.”

“Why?”

“I guess they got it right the first time.”

“What do you mean?”

“Well, that’s why they made 2 sets. They made one batch and didn't get it quite right, so...they made another.

“So you guys are, like, defective.”

“Actually, you're the defectives. Too human. No offense. When they sent us down here, the war was still going on. We were possibly the only chance for survival, so they sent both sets, you know, for insurance.”

Maria turns to Zan.

“So why are Rath and Lonnie trying to kill you?”

“They wanna go to the summit. I don’t.”

“What’s the summit?”

“We were contacted. The ruling families of the 5 planets wanna have this summit meeting to talk peace. I don’t buy it.”

“Why?”

“Just don’t feel right.”

Calie leans against Zan because her head still hurts. Zan starts using his powers on her again then turns to Max.

“You got some place we can crash? She needs to rest.”

Michael steps forward.

“You can stay with me.”

“Cool.”

Zan carries Calie to Max’s car. He drives them and Ava to Michael’s apartment. Everyone else goes home.

Rath and Lonnie have stolen a car and are on their way to Roswell.

“What’re we gonna do? We can’t go to the summit now!”

“Chill. One way or another we’ll go.”

“He was right Lonnie. They want the king.”

“So we’ll give them the king, somehow.”

Zan lays Calie down on Michael’s couch. She fell asleep in the car.

“I’ll get you some blankets.”

Michael goes to his room to get some blankets. When he comes back Zan is asleep on the couch with Calie, and Ava is asleep on the floor. He puts blankets over them and goes to bed himself. Part of him is afraid to trust them, but another part of him is screaming that he should. Technically they’re family. They came for help, and he will help them. He can’t believe it’s the other him that they need protection from. He would never do this to Max, even if he wanted to sometimes. He would never betray him. He takes one last glance at Calie, Zan, and Ava and thinks to himself. ‘They’re family.’

The next morning Michael gets up and goes to the living room, but Zan, Calie, and Ava aren’t there. He looks around the apartment, but they’re no where to be found. He picks up the phone and calls Max.

“Hello?”

“Max we have a problem.”

“What?”

“They’re gone.”

Part 3

“What do you mean they’re gone?”

“I mean they’re not here, and I don’t know where they went.”

Isabel taps Max on they shoulder.

“Max, Zan, Calie, and Ava are here. I snuck them up to my room.”

“Michael they’re here.”

“Great.”

They hang up and Max goes to Isabel’s room. He faces Zan.

“What are you guys doing here? If our parents had seen you…”

“They didn’t. Look I need to talk to you, and Calie needed to talk to Isabel.”

“Alright. What where’s Ava?”

“She wanted to talk to your... Tess.”

“Oh, okay.”

Zan and Max go into Max’s room. Isabel sits down next to Calie.

“What did you want to talk to me about?”

“Vilandra.”

“What do you know about Vilandra?”

“She betrayed her family...brought down the whole house of cards...got everyone killed. Sound familiar?”

“Yeah.”

“Does he know?”

“Who?”

“Max.”

“No, I haven’t told anyone yet.”

“I figured. That’s why I wanted to talk. I think you should.”

“Why?”

“Cause it’s puttin’ a brick wall between you two. Even I can see that. And if you don’t tell em, she will.”

“Lonnie?”

“Yep. She loves screwing with people. Given half the chance she’ll ruin your relationship with Max. And I don’t want to see that happen.”

“Why do you care?”

“Cause you guys are kinda family. So, you got a boyfriend?”

Max and Zan are talking about Rath and Lonnie.

“I just wanna make sure you’re careful. They’re powerful. They can make themselves look like Michael and Isabel. And they’re mean as hell. The no mercy type.”

“Do you think they’ll know you’re here?”

“Totally. They’re probably on their way. But they’ll have to drive so it’ll take em a couple of days.”

“Good.”

“Just watch your back.”

“I will.”

They go back to Isabel’s room. She and Calie are having a nice girl-talk.

“Are we interrupting something?”

“Yeah.”

“Could we have a few more minutes?”

Max and Zan shrug and leave the room.

“So, this Alex guy. Ya like em?”

“I don’t know. He’s a really good friend.”

“What aren’t ya tellin me?”

“I do like him. He’s so wonderful and sweet, but…”

“But what?”

“I don’t want to see him get hurt because of me.”

“Iz, listen. Ya can’t think like that. He’s in danger even if he’s not with you. I’ve learned ya gotta live life like there’s no tomorrow. If you don’t tell him the truth now, ya may never get to. Don’t be afraid. Live!”

“Thanks. I really needed that. It’s weird, you seem almost like a sister to me.”

“Technically I kinda am. I’m part you, and part Max.”

“That’s true.”

“This was cool. We should do it again sometime.”

“Yeah.”

Ava goes to the Valenti household. She knocks on the door and Kyle answers.

“Ha ha. Tess? What are you wearing?”

“I’m not Tess.”

Tess comes to see who’s at the door. Kyle gets very confused.

“Hi Ava. Come on in. Kyle this is Ava, Ava this is Kyle.”

“Hey.”

“Hi. I’ll just leave you two alone.”

“Thanks.”

They go into Tess’s room.

“He’s cute. Your boyfriend?”

“Just my friend that’s a boy.”

“Cool.”

“So why are you here?”

“I just wanted to talk to ya. See what you’re like.”

“Oh, okay.”

They tell each other all about themselves. There is another knock at the door. Kyle answers it. When he opens the door two Max’s are standing in front of him.

“Okay, this is just too weird.”

“Can we come in?”

“What the hell?”

He steps aside to let them in. Calie and Isabel come in behind them.

“Kyle this is Zan and Calie.”

“Hi.”

“Hey.”

Ava and Tess come out of Tess’s room.

“Hey guys.”

“Hi.”

“So, what are we gonna do now?”

Part 4

“I was thinking we should get some breakfast.”

“Sounds good.”

“Let’s go.”

“Where? Where can we take them?”

“Right. Why don’t you three go back to Michael’s? We’ll get something from the Crashdown and bring it there.”

“Whatever.”

Zan, Calie, and Ava walk back to Michael’s apartment. He doesn’t look very happy with them.

“Why didn’t you tell me you were going to Max’s house?”

“We didn’t want to wake ya. Sorry.”

“It’s okay.”

“The others are gettin some breakfast to bring here.”

“Good.”

There is a knock at the door.

“Maria, what are you doing here?”

“Well hello to you too.”

“Sorry, hi.”

“I wanted to talk to Calie.”

“Okay.”

Maria and Calie go into Michael’s bedroom.

“What’s up?”

“I was wondering if you could help me.”
“With?”

“Michael.”

“What’d ya mean?”

“Well you are part him so I thought maybe you can help me figure out what to do with him.”

“Still don’t get it.”

“Well a lot has happened between us, and right now we aren’t together and…”

“And you wanna be. You love em don’t ya?”

“Well I don’t… Oh who am I kidding? Yes. I love him. Even with all the hell he’s put me through, I love him.”

“Epic. Did ya tell em?”

“Are you kidding? He’d run for the hills.”

“I don’t think so. I think he loves you too.”

“Really? How do you know?”

“I can see it in his face when he looks at ya. He’s scared. Scared that he’s gonna hurt ya.”

“Why would he think that?”

“Cause his life is dangerous.”

“But I don’t care about that.”

“Then tell em that.”

“Okay, thanks.”

“No prob. I’m a real matchmaker today.”

Maria and Calie go back to the living room. Maria turns to Michael.

“Later we need to talk.”

“Why?”

“You’ll see.”

Max, Isabel, Tess, Ava, and Alex come in with breakfast.

“Breakfast is served.”

Everyone sits around the living room eating breakfast. Zan is very surprised at how this has turned out. He didn’t expect Max, Michael, Isabel, and Tess to even tryst them, let alone be friendly to them. It’s nice. It’s something he felt in a long time. It’s family.

When everyone is done eating Isabel takes Alex into Michael’s bedroom to talk.
“Alex, I need to tell you something.”

“Isabel, if this is another ‘you’re such a good friend speech’ could you not?”

“It’s not. And I’m glad you brought that up. Alex, you are a really good friend, but somewhere along the line, you became more then that and it scared me. It scared me because I don’t want to see you get hurt because of me. So I tried to keep my distance, to stay away from you to protect you, but I can’t do that anymore. I love you Alex.”

Alex is speechless. This is exactly what he’s always wanted. There’s only one thing to say.

“I love you too.”

He gets up and gives her a passionate kiss. She returns the kiss and deepens it. A few minutes later they come out of Michael’s room hand in hand, and everyone notices.

“What happened to you two?”

“We had a little talk and got things out in the open. We are officially a couple.”

Everyone applauds.

“That’s great. Congratulations.”

“Thanks.”

That night Michael goes over to Maria’s to talk. Her mom is out of town so he just walks right in. Maria is sitting on the couch practicing what she’s going to say to him.

“Well Michael…”

“Am I interrupting something?”

“Oh, Michael, I didn’t hear you come in.”

“I see that. So what do you want to talk about? I didn’t piss you off again did I? Are you gonna kick my ass?”

“No Michael, you didn’t piss me off.”

“Then what is this about?”

“I know you’re scared. I know that you’re afraid to let me in because you think you’ll end up hurting me, but I don’t believe that. I don’t think you could ever hurt me. Not intentionally anyway. Michael, you need to stop being afraid. I love you. I really truly love you. And I’m not going anywhere. No matter how much you push me away I’m still here. So for once in your life listen to your heart. What does it tell you?”

He leans in and gives her a passionate kiss. Suddenly she gets flashes of Michael as a little kid, leaving the pod, fighting with Hank, finding Max and Isabel in the desert, and then flashes of their time together. In that moment she sees what she means to him. When the kiss ends they are both speechless. Maria smiles at him and kisses him again, this time with even more passion and love. They lay back on the couch and make love.

“I think we just took a huge step in human-alien relations. I love you Michael.”

“I love you too.”
Part 5

The next morning Max comes to Michael’s apartment. Ava is asleep on the couch and Zan is asleep on the bed, but he doesn’t see Calie. He hears something coming from the bathroom and gets a bad feeling. He goes to see if she’s alright. When he opens the door he sees Calie throwing up.

“Calie, are you alright?”

“What does it look like?”

“I’ll get Zan.”

“No, don’t. Please, he don’t need another thing to worry about.”

“What’s wrong?”

She lifts up her shirt to show him the glowing handprint on her stomach.

“Please don’t tell Zan. All he needs to think about is stoppin’ Rath and Lonnie. Please!”

“Okay, I won’t, I promise.”

“Thank you.”

He gives her a supportive hug, and then helps her up off the floor. He helps her get cleaned up so she doesn’t look like she was sick. When they come out of the bathroom Zan comes out of the bedroom.

“Hey. Where’d ya go?”

“Bathroom.”

“Oh.”

He pulls her close to him and gives her a deep kiss.

“You okay?”

“Yeah. Fine.”

“Ya sure?”

“Yes.”

“Okay.”

Max thinks it’s nice that Zan can tell something’s bothering Calie. He used to be able to do that with Liz. But a lot has change with Liz. If only they could go back to the way things were. Calie turns around to face Max.

“Enough already! I can feel people’s emotion sometimes, and yours are givin’ me a headache. What’s your problem?”

“I was just thinking about my ex-girlfriend, Liz.”

“The cute brunette?”

“Yeah.”

“What happened?”

“We broke up because of the whole destiny thing. You know, how I’m supposed to be with Tess.”

“Oh yeah. We know.”

“Well after that I tried to get her back, but I caught her in bed with Kyle.”

“Ouch. But that doesn’t make sense. She loves you.”

“Not anymore.”

“No, she does. I can feel it every time she looks at you. Somethin’s buggin’ her. She’s afraid. Talk to her. Find out. Damn, why am I turnin’ into miss matchmaker?!”

“You really think she still loves me?”

“Dude, I know it.”

He gives her a big hug in excitement.

“Thank you!”

“Yeah, yeah. Go get your girl.”

Max runs out the door and slams it shut, waking Ava.

“What’s goin’ on?”

“Nothin’. Who’s hungry?”

Max drives to Liz’s houses as fast as he can. He climbs up her ladder and finds her asleep on the balcony with her journal open in her lap. She must have fallen asleep while writing in it. She looks so beautiful that he decides not to wake her yet. He closes her journal and throws it on her bed. She starts to shiver so he gets a blanket and puts it over her. In that moment, watching her beautiful sleeping form, he forgets every bad thing that happened between them. She looks like she is dreaming. It must be a good dream because she is smiling. But a few minutes later she starts crying and talking in her sleep.

“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry Max. It didn’t really happen. I didn’t sleep with Kyle. I had to make you turn away from me so the world wouldn’t end, but I love you. I need you Max. Please forgive me.”

Max can’t believe what he just heard. Is that true? Did she fake sleeping with Kyle for the sake of the world? Does she really still love me?

Liz is crying even more. Max doesn’t know what to do. He lays down next to her and holds her tight, without waking her.

“It’s okay Liz. I forgive you. I love you.”

Part 6

When Liz wakes up she is surprised to feel someone’s arms around her, and even more surprised to see that those arms belong to Max.

“Max, what are you doing here?”

“I came to talk to you, but you looked so peaceful I couldn’t wake you. You were dreaming and you started crying in your sleep so I held you to calm you down.”

“Oh, um… did I say anything out loud?”

“Yes. I believe the exact words were, ‘I’m sorry. I’m so sorry Max. It didn’t really happen. I didn’t sleep with Kyle. I had to make you turn away from me so the world wouldn’t end, but I love you. I need you Max. Please forgive me.’.”

“I said that huh?”

“Oh yeah. Interesting isn’t it? Is it true? Did you fake sleeping with Kyle because you afraid that being with me would somehow end the world?”

“I… I…”

“Please don’t lie to me Liz. Not now.”

She realizes that she has no choice but to tell him the truth.

“You better sit down.”

They both sit down and Liz tells him all about future Max, and how 14 years from now the worlds ends just because they were together.

“Wow.”

“Yeah.”

“I can’t believe it. I never imagined that…”

“I know. Me neither.”

“I’m so sorry you had to do that. It must’ve been really hard.”

“It was. Max, I didn’t mean what I said. I would die for you in a heartbeat. I love you. Anyone else would just be second best. Now that you know the truth maybe we can stop it, but still be together.”

“I think we can.”

“Good.”

He leans in and gives her a soft kiss on the lips. Suddenly they hear Liz’s parents knocking on her door.

“Stay here.”

“Okay.”

Liz goes to answer the door.

“Hi mom. What’s up?”

“Can I talk to you for a minute?”

“Actually mom I have a lot to do today, so I really have to get ready.”

“It’ll just take a minute.”

“Okay. What do you want to talk about?”

“Are you alright?”

“I’m fine.”

“You’ve seemed very sad lately. If something’s wrong you should talk to me.”

“Mom, something was wrong, but it’s not anymore. I fixed it.”

“What?”

“Max. I was having problems with him. I really didn’t know if I wanted to be with him or not, but now I know that I do. We got back together and I’ve never been happier.”

Max smiles. He’s glad that she’s happy again.

“Okay, good. Well I’ll let you get ready.”

“Thanks.”

Max comes into her room and puts his arms around Liz from behind.

“So you’ve never been happier huh?”

“Yep.”

“Me neither.”

She turns around and gives him a passionate kiss. They fall back on the bed and continue making out. Suddenly Liz’s mom walks back into the room.

“Liz, I just…”

All three of them are shocked. Max quickly gets off of Liz and sits up. Liz sits up as well.

“Hi Mrs. Parker.”

“What were you two doing?”

“Mom, we were just making out. That’s all.”

“Really. It looked like a little more than that to me. Max out!”

“Mom, you can’t make him leave!”

“Watch me!”

“No, I finally got him back in my life and you are not gonna chase him away! Come on Max.”

She pulls him out the window and down the ladder. They jump in his car and drive away before Nancy can stop them.
“I can’t believe her!”

She starts to cry. He pulls over and takes her in his arms.

“It’s okay Liz. It’s okay.”

“I’m sorry.”

She looks down at her cloths and laughs.

“I’m still in my pajamas.”

“You want me to take you home?”

“No, I don’t want to talk to her. Will you take me to Maria’s? I can borrow her cloths.”

“Okay.”

They go Maria’s house. No one answers the door, but it’s unlocked so they go in, assuming Maria is still asleep. They go into her room and find her and Michael in bed together, naked.

“Oh my god!”

“Liz!”

“Oh my god!”

Max and Liz quickly run out of the room. All four of them start laughing.

“I was just wondering if I could borrow some of your cloths.”

“Sure. I’m not using them.”

They start laughing even harder. Michael quickly gets dressed, and he and Max go into the living room while Liz and Maria get dressed.

“So you two…”

“Uh huh.”

“Was he…”

“Uh huh!”

“Well!”

“So are you and Max back together?”

“Yeah. It just happened this morning.”

“Tell me tell me tell me!”

Max and Michael are sitting on the couch in silence.

“Was it good?”

“Oh yeah!”

“Good.”

“So what’s up with you and Liz?”

“We got back together.”

“Good for you.”

“Thanks.”

Lonnie is sleeping against Rath as he drives. He has one arm around her. He looks down at her and thinks to himself. ‘I have to get them home. I won’t let him die!’

Part 7

Lonnie starts to stir in her sleep. She puts her arms around her stomach as if it hurts. Rath puts one of his hands over her stomach and it begins to glow. It seems to be helping. She starts to relax again.

“What if we can’t get home Rath? What if he dies?”

“He ain’t gonna die! We’ll find a way. Don’t worry.”

He pulls her closer to him. For the first time in her life, Lonnie is scared.

Zan gets a weird feeling. Calie notices.

“You okay?”

“Yeah. I just got a weird feelin’.”

“What kinda feelin’?”

“Fear, but not mine.”

“That is weird babe.”

“Don’t worry bout it. It’s probably nothin’.”

“Okay.”

Michael and Maria, and Max and Liz walk in all over each other, and smiling more then ever.

“Damn, check it out Zan. I did good.”

“That’s my girl.”

“So you guys are cool?”

“Yeah, we’re cool.”

“Good.”

Calie gets up and goes to the kitchen. Zan follows her. He outs his arms around her from behind and starts kissing her neck. At first she welcomes it, but when one of his hands starts drifting towards her stomach she pushes him away.

“Not now Zan.”

“What’s with you? Over the past few days you’ve barely even let me touch you. Did I do somethin’ wrong?”

“No, I’m just not in the mood.”

“Bullshit, you’re hidin’ something!”

“Just leave me alone.”

“No, not until ya tell me!”

“Will ya keep it down, they’ll hear.”

“I don’t care what they hear! I want to know what’s up!”

She tries to get passed him, but he won’t let her leave.

“You’re not goin’ anywhere until you tell me!”

“Stop yellin’ at me!”

She drops to the floor in defeat and starts to cry. Zan is mentally smacking himself. ‘You idiot! Now look what you’ve done!’ He gets down on the floor and holds her tight.

“I’m sorry. I just don’t like when you keep secrets from me.”

“I’m sorry. I just didn’t want to tell ya until this whole thing with Rath and Lonnie was over with. But I guess I should tell ya now.”

She takes his hand and puts it over her stomach. He connects with the baby. He gets flashes of a beautiful little girl. His little girl. When the flashes end he doesn’t know what to say. He pulls Calie into a tight, loving hug, and then gives her a passionate kiss.

“I love you.”

“I love you.”

He picks her up and carries her to the bedroom, not caring if the others see them. As Calie lays in a sleeping Zan’s arms after making love a strange wave of fear and anger washes over her. She doesn’t know where it came from or why, but it didn’t come from her, or Zan, or any of the others. After a few minutes she knows exactly who it came from. Rath and Lonnie. But why are they so scared. She has to know. She gets dressed without waking Zan and sneaks passed the others. She has to find them. She can feel that they are close. They’re definitely in Roswell. Maybe they were wrong. Maybe Rath and Lonnie weren’t really trying to kill Zan. She has to know for sure. And she has to go alone.

Rath and Lonnie get out of the car. They can feel Calie. She is close. Lonnie’s stomach starts to hurt again. She tries to hide it, but Rath can tell.

“Just hang on baby. Just a little longer.”

She nods her head and walks to an alley.

“Calie’s on her way. I can feel it.”

“Me too.” They both sit down. Rath pulls Lonnie close to him and puts his hand over her stomach. He can feel his son dying. He has to do something. Calie walks up to them, hand raised ready to defend herself if necessary.

“Calie.”

“Lonnie, Rath.”

“Put your hand down. We ain’t gonna hurt ya.”

“Why should I believe ya? Ya tried to kill Zan.”

“We didn’t. We were tryin’ to scared him, not kill ‘em. Ya really think we’d do that?”

“I don’t know what to think.”

“We needed Zan to go to the summit so we could go home.”

“And what’s so bad about this planet?”

Before Lonnie can answer she feels a sharp pain in her stomach. This is much worse than before.

“Rath!”

“What’s wrong with her?”

“She’s pregnant. He can’t survive here.”

Calie puts her hand on her stomach. How can this be? She hasn’t felt anything like that. Why would it be different for her?

“This don’t make sense. I’m pregnant too and this ain’t happenin’ to me.”

“What?”

Rath doesn’t understand. What’s happening to his son?

“We gotta do somethin’. I can’t let him die!”

“He won’t! Come on. I’ll take you to the others.”

Rath picks up Lonnie, who is still in a great deal of pain. Calie leads them to Michael’s apartment. When they go inside Zan is in the living room with the others. They all look very worried. When Rath and Lonnie come in every alien raises their hand. Rath turns around so their blasts will hit him instead of Lonnie. Calie stands in front of him.

“Down boys. They’re on our side. They were tryin’ to scare you, not kill you. Lonnie’s pregnant and the baby’s dyin’. They think its cause it can’t survive here, but I don’t think so.”

Lonnie screams out in pain. Zan runs to her side. They’ve never been very close, but she is his sister. He has to help her.

“Put her down.”

Rath lays her down on the couch and sits down next to her, holding her hand tight. Zan uses his powers to try to figure out what’s really wrong with the baby. Suddenly a flash of light comes from Lonnie’s stomach and throws Zan across the room. Calie runs to him to make sure he’s alright.

“What happened?”

“Someone’s killin’ him. They wanted you to think it was this planet, but it’s not.”

“Who? Who’s doin’ this?”

“I don’t know. They pushed me away before I could find out.”

Isabel and Alex run in after hearing someone screaming. When they see Lonnie and Rath Isabel raises her hand, but Max stops her and explains.

Lonnie’s pain is starting to go away. Rath takes her into the bedroom to rest. Zan, Calie, and Ava follow. Rath puts Lonnie on the bed and sits down next to her.

“Why didn’t you just tell us?”

“I don’t know. We didn’t know what to do. You know how bad we suck at asking for help.”

“Yeah, we do. We’re gonna figure this out. We’ll save your son. I promise.”

Lonnie gives Zan a small smile in thanks.

“I’m sorry.”

“Forget it. No harm done. It’s cool.”

“Thanks.”

“What’re brothers for?”

He leans in and kisses her forehead. Calie and Ava give her loving hugs to try to make her feel better. It doesn’t really work, but she appreciates the effort. Zan, Calie, and Ava leave so Lonnie can rest, but Rath insists on staying with her. He wants to be there in case something happens again. When they get back to the living room the others are waiting for them.

“How is she?”

“Not good.”

Zan sits down and pulls Calie into his lap. He puts his arms around her stomach protectively.

“Whoever did this must not know you’re pregnant too.”

“I guess.”

“But who could it be? Who’d do this?”

Part 8

“Sir, we found them. They’re in Roswell.”

“Good.”

He pulls out an alien communicator.

“Kivar, we’ve found them. We are on our way to get them.”

“Good! This war will never end until they are back here. Did you do it?”

“Yes sir. They think Lonnie’s child is dying. They’ll have no choice but to come home on our terms.”

“Do not screw this up Nicholas or I will leave you on that miserable planet! Is that understood?”

“Yes sir.”

“Get to it!”

Lonnie wakes up from her nap.

“Hey.”

“Hey. How long did I sleep?”

“A few hours. You should try to sleep longer if you can.”

“I don’t think so. Got too much on my mind.”

“We’ll find a way Lonnie. We’ll save him. I promise you.”

“Thanks. Rath I’m not really good at the whole ‘share my feelings’ crap, but I need you to know somethin’.”

“What?”

“At first… I didn’t love you. I loved Kivar. He was all I cared about. In our past life I betrayed you all for him. Our deaths were my fault. I wanted to get home just to be with him again, but not anymore. I don’t really know when, but at some point I feel in love with you. I don’t give a damn about Kivar anymore. I’m sorry that I ever did.”

“It’s cool. You’re forgiven.”

“Thanks. Come here.”

He leans over and gives her a deep, passionate kiss, but she quickly breaks it when her stomach starts to hurt again.

“Zan, Cal, Ava!”

Everyone comes running in. Zan goes to the other side of the bed and takes Lonnie’s hand. Calie gets an idea.

“I’ve got an idea. Humans outside.”

Liz, Alex, and Maria are about to get defensive, but Calie interrupts them.

“Nothin’ personal, but it’s safer for you out there.”

They understand and leave the room.

“Make a circle and join hands. Basically we’re gonna reverse what’s happening to the baby. Push it back onto the person that’s doin’ it.”

“Sounds like a good idea.”

Lonnie looks up at her.

“This better work. I don’t think either of us will last much longer.”

They make the circle and close their eyes. They take all the pain that is being inflicted on Rath and Lonnie’s son and push it back onto the person inflicting it.

Nicholas collapses to the floor in pain. In his head he can see Max, Tess, Michael, Isabel, Zan, Calie, Ava, Rath and Lonnie. They all start beating on him, especially Rath and Lonnie.

“How does it feel Nicholas?!”

“Was it worth this?!”

After they have all gotten a chance to pound on him all nine of them raise their hands to kill him, but he uses his powers to throw them out of his mind.

“Oh no!”

Lonnie starts to scream.

“He’s killin’ the baby! Rath!”

Rath doesn’t know what to do. He tries to help his son, but just like Zan he is thrown back wards. Calie notices red on the sheets.

“She’s bleedin’.”

Part 9

“Oh god! Zan, do somethin’!”

Zan puts his hands over Lonnie and tries to stop the bleeding. Her eyes are starting to close. Rath runs to her side.

“Lonnie! Stay wake Lonnie! Don’t leave me! Don’t leave me damn it!”

Zan takes his hands away. Rath looks up at him.

“I stopped the bleedin’, but…”

“But what?!”

“I’m sorry. I couldn’t save him. Your son’s dead.”

Lonnie can’t believe it.

“No, no, no, no!”

Rath gets up on the bed with her and holds her close.

“Shh. It’s okay. It’s okay.”

They can tell that he doesn’t really believe that. He’s just trying to comfort Lonnie.

“He can’t be dead. He can’t be dead.”

“Shh. Shh.”

He holds her tight, not knowing what else to do.

Calie puts her arms around her stomach, and then leaves the room. Zan goes after her.

“Cal?”

“What if he finds out about our baby? What if he kills her too Zan? I don’t know what I’ll do if I lose her.”

“We’re not gonna lose her. It’s not gonna happen. I promise!”

He pulls her close to him as she cries. Rath comes out of Michael’s room.

“Rath, you okay?”

He gets so angry that he punches the wall. His fist goes right through it.

“Nicholas will pay for this! I owe that to my son!”

He storms out of the apartment slamming the door behind him.

“Oh god Zan. We have to go after him before he does somethin’ stupid.”

“Get the others. The humans can stay with Lonnie.”

Calie goes into Michael’s room. Lonnie is hugging her legs close to her and rocking back and forth. Isabel is trying to calm her. Calie has all aliens come into the living room without alarming Lonnie.

“Rath went after Nicholas. We gotta go help him.”

“Is he nuts? He won’t last 2 minutes alone with Nicholas.”

“Right now, he doesn’t give a shit. We have to stop him.”

“Let’s go.”

They go after Rath while Maria, Alex, and Liz stay with Lonnie. They end up in an abandoned building.

“He’s here. I can feel him.”

“Me too. This way.”

Zan leads them to a stairway. The others follow his lead. They are all thinking the same thing. Rath is nuts. He can’t face Nicholas alone, especially when he’s out of control like this. Nicholas does deserve to die for what he’s done, but Rath is gonna get himself killed.

“There!”

Ava spots Nicholas and Rath fighting down the hall. Rath gets thrown across the room.

“Rath!”

Calie bends down to make sure he’s alright.

“Are you okay?”

“What’re you doin’ here?”

“We’re here to save your ass.”

“I’m doin’ fine.”

Nicholas laughs.

“You could never except defeat could you Rath? Look at you? You can barely stand. Did you really expect to beat me? I killed you in your last life, and I’ll kill you again. All of you if necessary.”

Max and Zan create a shield around them.

“You think that’s gonna stop me?”

He throws a blast at them to try to take down the shield. Calie and Isabel help Zan and Max keep the shield up, but after a while they use too much energy and can’t keep it going. Nicholas throws Calie to the other side of the room.

“So you’re the special one. The mix right? We heard about you.”

“Did you?”

“Oh yeah. You’re obviously not as powerful as they make you out to be.”

“You’d be surprised.”

Suddenly she disappears.

“Where is she?!”

She returns behind him.

“Over here.”

When he goes to blast her she disappears again.

“Stop that!”

“Are we feeling jealous?”

He tries to blast her again but she disappears again. He is getting really angry. He realizes that he can’t catch her, so he’ll have to make her stop moving. He looks at Zan.

“No!”

She grabs Zan and they both disappear. They return in another room.

“Stay here. I’m gonna get the others.”

Calie disappears again. When she goes back to the other room Nicholas isn’t there and everyone else is unconscious. Suddenly Nicholas comes out of the shadows and lifts his hand to blast her. She tries to disappear, but she is too weak. She closes her eyes as the blast comes at her, but she feels nothing. When she opens her eyes Zan is in front of her. He falls to the ground. He took the blast for her.

“No!”

She raises her hand at Nicholas so quickly that he doesn’t have time to react. She kills him, then drops to the floor next to Zan.

“Zan, baby? Hang on. Max! Max wake up!”

Zan looks up at her and touches her cheek.

“I love you.”

“I love you too. Hang on Zan. As soon as Max wakes up he can heal you, so just hang on.”

“I can’t. I’m sorry.”

“No, Zan you can’t die! What about our baby? What about our little girl? She needs her dad. She needs you, so don’t go.”

“I love you both. I…”

“No, Zan! No!”

She holds his limp body close to hers as she cries for him.

Part 10

(3weeks later)

“Ahh!”

“Come on Cal. You can do it.”

The gang is coaching her as she delivers her and Zan’s daughter. They couldn’t go to the hospital so Jim is delivering the baby in Michael’s apartment.

“I see the head.”

“Oh god!”

“Come Calie, you can do it.”

And a few minutes later that beautiful little girl is born. Jim checks her over, and then gives her to Calie. She starts to cry. Her baby is beautiful, just like her father.

“You wanna hold your daughter?”

Zan nods and takes his daughter into his arms. Thank god Max woke up in time!

“She’s beautiful.”

“What are you guys gonna call her?”

“Um, what about Julie?”

“Yeah, I like it.”

“Julie it is.”

Zan passes Julie to Lonnie. She starts thinking about what her son would’ve looked like. Then she thinks about what her new son will look like. She got pregnant again a week ago, and now that Nicholas is dead he will be safe. It wasn’t easy getting over the miscarriage, but with Rath’s help she eventually did. She passes Julie to Rath.

“Hey kiddo. You are pretty cute.”

“Of course she is. She’s my kid!”

Everyone laughs and continues passing the baby around the room.

The next day the dupes pack up and get ready to go back to New York. Calie turns to face Max.

“You know, you guys could stay here. You don’t have to go back.”

“We want to. New York is our place. We like it there.”

“Okay. Give us a call sometime.”

“Don’t worry, we’ll keep in touch.”

“Good. Take care of yourselves.”

“We will. You too.”

“We will.”

“Don’t get all touchy feely on me Max. It’s not really my thing. We’ll see each other again. That I promise you.”

“I’m gonna hold you to that.”

“I hope so. Well, see ya around.”

“See ya.”

He hands her a gift.

“What’s this?”
“A going away present. Open it.”

She rips open the wrapping to see a journal.

“You said you like to write. I just thought…”

“Thank you. It’s great.”

“Your welcome.”

Everyone says their goodbyes and the dupes drive away. Rath is driving, Lonnie is in the passenger seat, and Zan and Calie are in the back. Zan is holding Julie, and Calie is writing in her new Journal.

‘Dec. 11th

I’ve had a really rough couple of weeks, but I got through it, and I learned somethin’. What are the odds? Anyway, I learned who my worst enemy is. All this started because I got scared for Zan and ran away. Because Lonnie and Rath were too scared to just tell us the truth. Because we trust each other, and most importantly because we didn’t trust ourselves. That was our problem. We screwed ourselves. We did things we shouldn’t have because we got scared. We stopped thinking clearly. We stopped trusting. From my time in Roswell I learned that my worst enemy is me.’
