Title: Ice
Author: Annie
Category: Vilondra/Kivar

Summary: One parter. The entire story takes place back on Antar. A glimpse into Vilondra’s "betrayal". Based on the song "Ice" by Sarah McLachlan.

Disclaimer: You know that I don’t own them. I just have a habit of borrowing them for a bit. Don’t worry, I always put them back.

The ice is thin
Come on, dive in
Underneath my lucid skin
The cold is lost… forgotten.

Hours pass, days pass
Time stood still
Light gets dark
And darkness fills my secret heart… forbidden.

She left the bed, slowly making her way across the cold floor towards the balcony, wrapped only in a thin sheet. Sprawling out before her was the glowing lights of Anastor. Her home… her kingdom. It was the only good, constant thing in her life. She would give up everything to protect it.

A low moan alerted her to the fact that her lover was awake. Turning her head, she found Kivar’s piercing blue eyes watching her. "Restless," he whispered huskily, an opened hand urging her back to him.

Her dark eyes wander back over the city, giving it one last, longing look, knowing what she had to do. A moment passed before she finally made her way back to the bed.

I think you worried for me then
The subtle ways that I'd give in but I know
You liked the show

Tied down to this bed of shame
You tried to move around the pain but oh
Your soul is anchored

Tempting himself by lowering the sheet covering her body slowly, he trailed his hands down her skin. Lips followed as he groaned in excitement.

And she allowed him.

Obsession was a powerful thing. Vilondra knew that. When someone acquired that allusive object, it filled them with the sensation of fulfillment… control. Kivar liked the taste of both.

She heard another hiss of pleasure escape him when he laid her back and she felt her head make contact with a soft pillow.

Vilondra preferred silence. Only peace would bring that back to Antar.

The only comfort is the moving of the river
You enter into me, a lie upon your lips
Offer what you can, I'll take all that I can get
Only a fool's here...

She would do anything to secure it. By the mercy of the four moons, she already had: turning her back from her betrothal promises, lying to everyone she ever cared about, even sleeping with the enemy. Kivar always had a twisted admiration for her. After he started to raise forces against her brother, she had done the only thing she could think of.

By giving herself to Kivar, Vilondra was going to stop it. He promised it would end. With the rising of the sun, he had vowed to go to Zan and make amends for the uprising. There would finally be a peace.

She was going to give it to her brother as a wedding gift. With that in mind, she closed her eyes, sighing that he had finished with her for the moment. Sleep engulfed her with the promise of waking to a new world.

She knew had no clue how right she was.

I don't like your tragic sighs
As if your god has passed you by well hey fool
That's your deception

"This is the way it has to be," Nicholas informed her coldly as he stood over the body of her friend.

Tears trickled from her eyes, meeting with Rath’s as he gasped for his last breath. Only a few feet away laid Avona, her newly wedded sister-in-law. The rise and fall of her breathing ended many minutes ago. She had already begun to grow cold.

Nicholas reached for her, but Vilondra stepped out of his grasp. "I have orders to take you back down to the gate. You will wait for him there," he explained, grabbing for her once more.

"Why did you do this," Vilondra cried. "It wasn’t suppose to happen this way. They were suppose to be safe."

"Plans change," Nicholas explained simply. "You offered up the chance for everything Kivar ever wanted. Did you honestly think he wouldn’t take you up on it?"

Your angels speak with jilted tongues
The serpent's tale has come undone you have no
Strength to squander

The realization hit her instantly. The secret entrance to the palace as a way for him to see her. The way she left the gates open for him to come. The power had never belong to her. Instinctively, Vilondra knew. She knew where her lover was at, what he was about to do.

Turning fast, Vilondra rushed from the room. She could hear Nicholas screams of protest, orders for her return as she race down the hall. None of that mattered now. She needed to find Zan.

The commotion coming from study drew her attention. Throwing back the heavy wooden door, she gasped at the scene in front of her.

Zan was kneeling on the floor. The hollowed expression on his face gave away the whole truth. His energy was gone. Nothing was left. It was the end.

Kivar held out his hand for her, much in the manner he had the night before. "Come my queen," he beckoned. "With his fall, we will ascend the throne and rule Antar together."

She shook her head, shaking free some of the tears dripping down her face.

He laughed, causing a chill to descend her spine. "You’re mine," he stated confidently, receiving a wicked pleasure from the expression on Zan’s face as he uttered the words.

The only comfort is the moving of the river
You enter into me, a lie upon your lips
Offer what you can, I'll take all that I can get

Bile rose in her throat at just how much deception laced his every word. "I will never be your’s," she bit out.

A brief emotion, bordering possibly on sadness or hurt, flashed in his eyes and quickly melted away. The facade was dropped. "Then you will die too. But first, your brother."

"No," she screamed, throwing herself forward. A burning sensation ignited pain throughout her body as she collapsed.

Only a fool's here to stay

Zan was by her side in an instant. Using what little energy he had left, he surrounded them with his shield. "Vilondra," he whispered, gently stroking her hair as she struggled for air.

"I’m sorry," she gasped. "So very sorry." The words caught in her throat, not knowing if he could actually hear her. Only her tears of remorse eased her pain as things began to drift away.

Only a fool's here to stay

"Don’t" she saw Zan’s mouth form the words, but she never heard their sound. Everything blurred together as her eyes grew heavy, hoping that if she ever woke again this would be nothing but a memory. "I’m a fool," she exhaled with her last breath.

Only a fool's here…

I know, I know... but this was a story that I have head ever since I heard this song. I just couldn't help it. Hate me if you need to....*happy* But there it is... my first UC story ever!
