Disclaimer: I don't own Roswell, so therefore it would be terribly mean to sue little old me…and it would be pointless, cause I don't own anything expensive, I don't have a job, and I'm only 16, so I have virtually no money! The only thing I own is Polar Productions, Inc.

Note: This is a polar fic. If you don't want to read about Michael and Liz going at it on top of assorted office furniture/equipment, please turn back now!

Summary: Michael is a big bad business man…all work and no play. Until one fateful day when his secretary Tess is crippled (mwuah ha ha ha ha!) and he chooses an intern in the building, Liz, to become his new secretary. Curses are exchanged, hateful looks are given, tears are shed, and naughty things go on…

~*Part 1*~

Michael Guerin slammed his car door, then unlocked it, opened it and slammed it again for good measure. He couldn't get enough of slamming things around, showing anyone and anything just who was boss. And if you didn't think Michael Guerin was boss, you had another thing coming…like his fist. He was a looming and authoritative character and he knew it. He used that to everyone else's disadvantage.

He was a business man, he worked for Polar Productions, Inc. as a shipping adviser. All day, everyday, he sat in his luxurious office, calling other business advisors worldwide to set up shipping costs and arrival dates of Polar Productions, Inc. products. Polar Productions, Inc. sold such products as video cameras, radios, and even cell phones, which could be used in temperatures as low as -25°F.

As Michael walked through the dimly lit parking garage he heard the screech of brakes from far on the other side of the garage and then the squealing of the tires as someone accelerated quickly. He could hear the car coming closer and so he moved over as far as he could, not looking back, not caring who it was. Probably some stupid teenager, trying to look cool for his girlfriend.

The car whipped past him in a blur, turning a corner, the sound fading. He continued on towards the bank of elevators, wishing the stupid CEO would give him a better parking spot, nearer to the elevators. He was still about 50 yards from the elevators when he saw his secretary, a deaf woman named Tess, getting out of her car.

He scowled to himself. He hated Tess. He loathed her. All she ever talked about was her hair, her nails, her latest boyfriend, her clothes. It was enough to make any sane person want to hurl on her shoes. Even though she was deaf, she could speak, though not well, making it all the more annoying for Michael whenever he got sucked into talking with her. He wished she would just do the world a favor and not talk at all. She should be deaf and mute.

As Michael thought these cruelties about Tess, the speeding car was quickly approaching him again. He moved over and he expected Tess to. He could feel the vibrations from the car under his feet, so he knew that Tess could too. And yet she kept walking ahead of him, right in the middle of the driving lane. He hated Tess, sure, but he didn't want her run down by a bozo in a fast car. He called out to her, knowing it was pointless to do so.

He jogged forward a bit, waving his arms, trying to see if he could ger her attention at all. She didn't see him. The car was coming, and it wasn't slowing. Michael was knocked off his feet by the force of the wind as the car went past…and it hit Tess, throwing her sideways into the backend of another car. She slumped to the ground slowly, without any sound. The car sped up even more and left.

Michael stared in shock at Tess's body, lying there on the cold pavement. "Please be alive," he muttered, climbing to his feet. He walked slowly towards her, muttering, "Please don't be dead. It's Monday, I really don't need this now. Die tomorrow if you must."

Liz Parker adjusted her skirt again, trying to tug it towards her knees. Why had she let Maria talk her into wearing this stupid thing anyways? It was her first day as an intern for a large and prestigious business, not her first day as a whore on a corner!

She brushed her hand nervously through her hair and sighed in relief when she saw Alex approaching her. Alex was the only reason she'd even had a chance at being accepted as the intern at Polar Productions, Inc. He'd been her best friend since they were in diapers, and when he'd landed a job at Polar Productions, Inc. he'd immediately pulled a few strings to get Liz the internship she'd been lusting after for the past two years.

"Liz, so glad to see you!" exclaimed Alex, pulling Liz into a tight hug and twirling her around.

"Alex!" Liz reprimanded, trying to look angry. "You are going to totally wreck my hair and clothes!"

"Oh, you know you love me!" said Alex, laughing. "Well, are you ready for your first day?"

"No," said Liz. "But I guess that doesn't matter, considering I have to start today."

"Liz, you'll be fine. For the first few days you'll be working with me. I won't send you off to someone else until you and I are both confident that you're ready," said Alex reassuringly.

"Thank you," said Liz. She took a deep breath. "Ok, I'm ready."

"Great!" said Alex, putting his arm around her shoulder. "Now I can give you the grand tour! This is the main entrance to Polar Productions, Inc. or "pee-pee ink", as we call it around here…"

To be continued. I just have to say that I don't mean any offense towards anyone who is mute, deaf, or had to deal with being hit by a car. Don't be angry with me, I have nothing against people with these handicaps, I just needed a way to sorta get rid of Tess...

Also, it may be a few weeks before I can find the time to update! Sorry about that!

It may comfort all of you to know that today, instead of using my class time to study for a huge history test, I started part 2 of this! I probably won't post until the weekend though.

this isn't really an author's note, this is ericka, aka eerie. I'm typing the same 'author's note' in each of kari's fics. and NO moderators I am not hacking, kari gave her password so I could tell y'all what's going on.

ok, so kari's computer crashed today. she cant get online...imagine that! that's so depressing...she lost all of her fics on her computer and her mom doesnt want to pay for the repairs.

she's crying right now on the phone, so when she gets back I better see a ton of feedback from all of you guys! come on she needs support. especially with welcome to college. COME ON GUYS WHAT IS GOING ON HERE! hey, now if you want to start a fundraiser...just email me, eerie_monkey⊕

for those of you reading welcome to college she had 6 pages written...all gone now. and for those of you reading office hours she had about 5 pages written. I'm so sorry guys! she didn't save anything on backup disk so it's all lost.

Wow, this is long...ericka is admiring the length. oh and look, I'm a supporter!

aka the Kari for the day...WOW!

Hey everyone. Yes, it's actually me this time, not Ericka. And no, my computer is not fixed...I am on my mom's office computer. I can go online now and most of my fanfic is ok...not all of it though. The problem is that when I go into Internet Explorer or AOL, I can't type or use the cut/copy/paste options...meaning I can read fics, but I can't reply, and I can't post to mine! I have no idea how to fix this...I've tried reinstalling my keyboard and reinstalling IE and AOL, and nothing is working. So until it's fixed, expect NO UPDATES FOR AT LEAST A MONTH! I'm so sorry...if I really do want to update, I'll TRY to get access to a computer, but I'll feel bad mooching time on the computer off of my friends and stuff, and my library only allows small increments (sp?) of time on the internet. I'm trying here people! Lol.

AN: I am going to send Part 2 to my beta (Polar Truckin' aka Belinda) sometime tomorrow and hopefully I will be ready to post by this weekend. In the mean time, here's a few little teasers to keep you on your toes....

“Listen bozo!” Michael yelled at the police officer standing in front of him. “I don’t have time for this…this…HULABALOO!”

Alex laughed and pulled Liz into a friendly hug. “That’s my Liz. Oh, it’s gonna be great working with you! Now if only I could get Isabel to work here…”

Liz giggled and poked Alex in the stomach. “Yeah right! You’d never get any work done!”

“Hey,” said Alex, a wounded expression crossing his face. “Creating life is work!”

Thanks for the bumps, everyone!

~*Part 2*~

Michael sighed and glanced at his watch again. It was getting late in the morning, and the police were still questioning him. What else did the nincompoops want to know?! He’d already told them everything he had seen.

The car had hit Tess and sped off. Michael hadn’t seen the license plate number, or the make and model of the car.

Not that he cared. Why was it any of his business if the police caught the person who’d hit Tess? He’d been looking for an excuse to get rid of her anyway. Now was as good a chance as any to prove how much he hated her by firing her when she probably needed a lot of money…for medical bills.

“Listen bozo!” Michael yelled at the police officer standing in front of him. “I don’t have time for this…this…HULABALOO!”

The officer gave Michael a strange look and stepped back slightly, closing his small notebook and capping his pen. “Um, sir. I realize this was a very traumatic experience to witness, but you are the only eye witness we have!”

“Mister – what’s your name?” snapped Michael.

“Kyle Valenti.”

“Mr. Valenti, I can assure you that it was in no way traumatizing. A better word might be joyous.”

Kyle blinked in surprise – obviously trying to pretend he hadn’t heard Michael say that. “Mr. Guerin, we need to ask you a few more-”

“No! Ms. Harding was in a hit and run! I can’t supply you with any more information! Now please, let me go to my office and do my job in peace!” He stormed off towards the elevators again, stepping in and pressing the button marked 7. He wiggled his fingers in a little wave at Valenti, who was looking dazed as if he couldn’t recall why Michael was no longer standing in front of him.

As soon as the elevator doors had closed completely, Michael stopped waving and muttered, “Freak,” under his breath.

“And finally,” said Alex, opening a door to a cramped and dim office. “This is my, excuse me, our office.”

Liz looked around, a fake smile spread across her face from ear to ear. She didn’t want Alex to think she didn’t like his office – but the truth was, she hated it. There was barely enough room to pivot, the windows looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in years, the lights were extremely dim, and it felt like a sauna.

“It’s great!” exclaimed Liz cheerfully.

Alex chuckled. “Don’t get too excited. I think it sucks.”

“Oh thank God!” exclaimed Liz, the smile on her face disappearing instantly. “My face was hurting from smiling like that. I was sure you’d figure out I was lying.”

Liz tried to hide her smile at the mention of Alex and Isabel having a baby. They’d only been married for three months, but already they were trying diligently to get Isabel pregnant.

Liz, Maria, and Max were being very supportive of Alex and Isabel’s choice to have a child so early in their marriage because they all knew how much they both wanted a child. (During the summer after their senior year in high school Isabel had become pregnant, but she’d miscarried. Alex and Isabel had been crushed, but both hadn’t given up hope of having a family.)

Besides, Liz thought it’d be fun to be able to baby-sit again, something she hadn’t had the opportunity to do in years. Liz and Maria had been each promised the title of ‘aunt’ and Max had been promised the title of ‘uncle’ for all of the children Alex and Isabel claimed they were going to have.

Alex continued to show Liz around, pointing things out to her in his office – such as where he kept the candy and where he stashed his little portable television. She had to hand it to him, he was truly prepared to slack off and not work, she’d never seen such an organised procrastinator.

Just as Alex had given Liz her first job (to sort through his mail), an extremely pissed off and disheveled looking man came storming into Alex’s office. Alex cowered behind his desk, which surprised Liz. Alex usually wasn’t afraid of others. What about this man scared him?

“Whitman, I hear you have an intern?” asked the man, not even acknowledging the presence of Liz sitting in front of him.

“Yes sir, Mr. Guerin. This is Liz Parker.”

“Liz Parker, you’re my new secretary.”

Liz and Alex blinked in surprise. “But Mr. Guerin, you can’t-”

“I can and I will,” Mr. Guerin interrupted coldly. “Ms. Parker, if you’ll come with me, I’ll show you to your office.”

He strode out into the hallway and Liz stood up. “Maybe this is a good opportunity for me Alex.” she said apologetically. She really knew he’d had his heart set on working with her, and now she’d be taking another job…

Alex shook his head. “Liz, working for that man can mean nothing but bad luck. He’s a workaholic and he’ll turn you into one too.”

“Alex, I’ve wanted this internship for so long. Now I’m being offered a job here! This is something I can’t turn down.” Liz gathered up her things and went out into the hallway.

“Well then, I wish you luck,” said Alex. “You’ll need it.”

I am so sorry for not updating this for such a long time! Here's the next part...

~*Part 3*~

Liz followed Michael down the hall, wringing her hands nervously. Had she made the right decision by giving in and taking the job as Michael’s secretary? Was he really as terrible as Alex had made him sound? Or had Alex just been trying to persuade her to stick with the internship? Liz knew Alex had been very excited at the prospect of being able to work everyday with one of his best friends, and now Liz was being taken away from Alex. Taken away before either of them got a chance to see what it was like to work together.

As Michael stopped in front of a door and dug in his pocket for the key, Liz made a mental note to apologize profusely to Alex later on that day.

Michael got the door open and ushered Liz into the office. He placed his briefcase on his chair and then turned to Liz.

“My name is Michael, but I prefer Mr. Guerin, so that’s what you’ll call me. You shouldn’t speak to me while I’m working unless it’s an emergency. You are to take all of my business calls, but if a personal call comes in, transfer it to my private line, which will ring the phone on my desk. You are also to keep a detailed calendar of any events or meetings I need to attend, whether they be business or personal. You have the freedom to schedule my meetings without asking me, as long as nothing overlaps and I get a one-hour lunch break every day. I work from either eight or nine in the morning until five in the afternoon, but your expected hours are from seven until three.”

Liz nodded and tried her best to remember all that Michael had just said. She was a bit dazed by how fast everything was moving on her first day at Polar Productions Inc. but she was also extremely excited.

Michael walked across the spacious office to a small desk. “This is your desk,” he said. “You can throw out any of Tess’s things that you don’t want or need.”

“Tess?” asked Liz timidly.

“My previous secretary. She was involved in a hit and run accident this morning and probably won’t be back up on her feet any time soon.”

“Oh no! That’s terrible! I hope she’s ok!”

“That makes one of us,” Michael grumbled, walking back to his desk.

Liz slowly walked back to her desk while contemplating what Michael had just said. Maybe Alex was right. Maybe this guy wouldn’t be the best choice to work with.

Later that day, Michael sighed and rubbed his neck. He’d been continuously staring at his computer screen, keeping his head in one position for so long that his neck had developed a painful kink in it.

“Damn,” he swore under his breath.

Liz looked up and asked, “You ok?”

“Just friggin peachy,” mumbled Michael. “I have to finish this write-up today, but I can’t concentrate with this kink in my neck.”

Without thinking about what she was doing, Liz rose to her feet and walked over to Michael’s desk, positioning herself behind his chair. She placed her hands on his neck and began to gently massage, moving her hands down his neck to his shoulders and back up again. Michael was too surprised by her actions to respond immediately. Almost right away he felt the kink melting away. Liz continued her massage, a bit perplexed by her discovery that she was very much enjoying the feeling of Michael’s golden skin under her fingertips.

Michael was also enjoying the massage, but not just because his neck felt better. He panicked as he realized that his lower anatomy was growing increasingly harder, straining against his expensive dress slacks.

“Enough!” he yelled, tensing up and scooting his chair towards his desk and away from Liz. “This is an office, not a pleasure spa! You will act in a professional manner!”

“I-I’m sorry, Michael,” stammered Liz, stepping away. “I just thought-”

“No, you didn't think, Miss Parker! And you are not to call me Michael! You are my secretary, my underling. You will not address me informally and you will not touch me in any way, ever! Do I make myself clear?!”

“Yes...sir,” muttered Liz, fighting back tears of rage and embarrassment. She returned to her desk. For the rest of the day neither of them made eye contact or uttered a word to each other.

No, I haven't died. But almost.

I'll give you the short version of my story.

I got sick. That threw my diabetes out of whack and I got sicker.

I went to the emergency room, then spent 48 hours in the ICU, and now I'm home.

I'm still sick, I'm tired, and I've had a migraine for 5 days. I can barely sit up, so I will not be writing fan fic for awhile. I'm sorry, but until further notice, I won't be updating my fics.

Maybe I'll start writing again in a week. Don't worry, I don't think it'll go beyond a week.

AN: I hope to have a whole load of new parts for this fic up soon. Just so everyone knows, this fic is going to be shorter than I had anticipated. I'd really like to finish it soon, and so I think that 5 or 6 more parts, at least 3 or 4 of them containing nookie scenes, will be all. This isn't going to be a long and drawn out fic like some of my others.

Part 5

“I-I…” Liz started to stammer out.

“What are you doing here? In my home?!” Michael demanded once again as he crawled out from under the bed, a dust bunny sitting atop his head, unknown to him.

Liz tried to hold back her giggle at seeing the chunk of dust atop Michael’s spiky hair, but couldn’t. She clapped her hand over her mouth, still unable to still her giggling.

“What’s so funny?” snapped Michael. “What makes you think you can just barge in here and then start laughing at me? I’m sick! I don’t need this-”

Finally Liz was able to settle down, interrupting Michael by plucking the dust bunny out of his hair. He blushed as he realized he probably had more dust all over him. After all, when was the last time he’d cleaned under the bed?

But then again, why should it matter what he looked like? This was only his secretary, not some supermodel! Who cares what kind of impression was made on her?

He did, that’s who.

Quickly, Michael pushed these thoughts aside and asked, rather harshly, “What the hell are you doing here?”

Liz’s smile faltered as she mumbled, “I brought you some soup and some new movies to watch. Cause you’re sick, and I thought-”

“I don’t need your care package,” sneered Michael. “I can take care of myself. I am a grown man, you know.” Michael regretted these words almost instantly, as Liz’s lower lip began to tremble and her eyes glazed over.

‘Geeze, why do I always have to be so mean? Why do I always have to say the wrong things?’ he wondered to himself as Liz carefully placed the thermos of soup and the stack of movies onto his dresser.

“I’ll just go now,” she said quietly, almost too quietly for Michael to hear.

“No, Liz, you don’t have to go,” sighed Michael, trying desperately to ignore the tears in Liz’s eyes, but unable to. “I’m sorry I snapped on you like that. You gave up your afternoon off to do this for me,” said Michael, gesturing at the soup and movies. “That was thoughtful. Uh…thanks.”

Liz smiled weakly and said, “I should still be going…”

“Nonsense,” said Michael, suddenly realizing how weak he felt. “Uh, stay here and enjoy the soup and a movie with me.” He swallowed back a wave of nausea, trying not to crumple to the floor as the room seemed to spin before his eyes.

“Are you ok?” asked Liz, seeing Michael close his eyes and grimace as he slowly began to sway back and forth, as if teetering on the edge of balance.

“I-I think so,” said Michael. “I just need to lie down…”

“Here, let me help you,” said Liz, instantly at his side. She placed one hand around his arm, jumping at what felt like an electrical shock.

Michael noticed it too, but just laughed and said, “Must be a lot of static in the air today.”

“Uh, yeah,” agreed Liz, guiding Michael slowly to the bed, where he collapsed into a ball. Liz pulled a few blankets up around his chin, noting how boyish and young he looked while in his pajamas instead of a suit, with his hair tousled and unkempt. He looked more…sexy.

‘Oh God,’ Liz thought, turning away from Michael. ‘Now is not the time to be having thoughts of how sexy he is. The man is sick!’

But Liz couldn’t stop an excited tremor from racing quickly through her body, a stirring beginning in her loins. She continued to brush off these feelings and thoughts as she took the thermos of soup out to Michael’s kitchen to pour it into two bowls. She placed these on a tray along with two spoons and a handful of crackers. Carefully, she carried all of this back to Michael’s bedroom, placing the tray on his bedside table.

“Thanks,” mumbled Michael, struggling to prop himself up, looking very obviously uncomfortable being so weak and out of character now around Liz. When he wasn’t in his element, which was his office, he never felt like himself. Being sick and helpless like this was only more embarrassing. Especially considering he was realizing just how attracted he really was to Liz and how his body was reacting to the sight of her in his bedroom.

Liz just smiled and sat down on the edge of the bed next to Michael, trying to ignore the very distinct feeling of Michael’s legs spread out behind her back, rubbing against her. She grabbed a bowl of soup and a spoon, spooning a bit of it up to Michael’s mouth, who reluctantly allowed Liz to feed it to him.

“I can feed myself,” he said after he had swallowed the delicious broth.

“I know,” said Liz simply, placing another spoonful of soup at his lips.

Michael accepted it and then asked, “So then why are you feeding me?”

“I want to,” said Liz, blushing a bit, but keeping a straight face. Michael continued to accept the spoonfuls of soup that Liz placed at his lips, not looking away from her face. There was now no denying, at least to himself, that there was definitely a stirring and hardening of his lower anatomy.

Somehow, although he was sick, and although this could very much be looked at as a humiliating situation, he was very aroused.

Liz blushed a deeper red and had to cough back a noise of surprise as when she placed the empty bowl and spoon on the tray, she noticed the tenting blanket right over Michael’s groin area. Feeling flustered, she mumbled something about eating her soup in the kitchen so that Michael could get some sleep.

Quickly she escaped from the bedroom, placing the tray on the kitchen table and seating herself at one of the chairs. She stared at the table for a moment, her head in her hands, before bursting into laughter at the situation she was in.

She wanted Michael, more than she’d like to admit. From what she’d just seen in the bedroom, the feeling was mutual. Yet he was in absolutely no condition to be having sex. It was a problem right out of a Friday night sitcom.

Liz quickly ate her portion of the soup, not taking the time to enjoy it. She decided that she couldn’t be around Michael any longer, that she needed to get away from him and just think for a little while, to sort through her new and rather interesting feelings for him. She quickly wrote him a note explaining that she had left, but he could keep the movies as long as he wanted. She taped the note to the refrigerator and ran out of the apartment, wondering why her new boss had such a hold over her thoughts and feelings all of a sudden.

Ok, what the ⊕#$*!? I was looking at this thread, and maybe I'm blind, but I can't find part 4! I KNOW I posted it...I have feedback for it! Well, here is part 4....please don't get confused by this....and remember that part 5 is further up on the thread. Ah, it's all #$*%ed up!

Part 4

For the next few days, Liz didn't talk to Michael, and Michael didn't talk to Liz. It was a bit difficult to work together in this capacity, but they managed.

After her first day as Michael's secretary, Liz had moaned and groaned to her friends as they all sat around, eating dinner in the Crashdown Café.

Everyone seemed to be sympathetic except for Alex, who could only manage to shake his head sadly and send Liz looks that seemed to be screaming, 'See! I told you so!' Liz apologized to Alex for leaving him stranded that first day and taking the job with Michael. Alex accepted her apology, but Liz could tell that he was still a bit upset with her. And frankly, she couldn't blame him.

Her friends put up with her moaning for a few days, but finally it got to be too much for them. "Chica," Maria said, taking Liz aside one day. "We know you don't like

Michael or anything, and we're all here for you…but you've got to stop whining. Either quit the job…or take your pain like a man."

At Liz's raised eyebrow, Maria explained, "Well, men don't complain. They suffer in silence."

Liz offered Maria a weak smile and nodded her head. She went home and thought about what Maria had said. She knew that she didn't really like the job, but she would never quit. First of all, Elizabeth Parker was not a quitter. Second of all, there was no denying that this was a great opportunity for her, even greater than the internship would have been. Third of all…Michael was annoying…but she felt drawn to him. Not that she'd ever admit that to her friends.

Liz flinched as she thought about the internship and how some of her professors had encouraged her to try to get the internship. She'd been taking only a few classes in college, as she wasn't sure yet exactly what she wanted to do with her life, or even what type of degree she wanted to aim for. She been missing classes now since she'd taken the job as Michael's secretary and hadn't even gotten any of her missed assignments or the notes from anyone else.

'There is no way I can ask Michael to give me time off to go to classes,' Liz thought to herself in despair. 'I'll have to drop out.'

'Damn it!' Michael cursed to himself in his head. He stomped his way across his apartment and flipped on his new stereo, turning up the volume and pressing play on the CD player. The sound of Metallica poured out of the speakers around him and soothed his frayed nerves, letting him temporarily forget about Liz Parker.

Liz Parker. Somehow the girl had captured his attention and wouldn't give it back. She was all he could think about. It was so hard for him to sit at his desk, everyday, all day, and know that she was mad at him.

He shouldn't have snapped on her the way he had. But…he couldn't allow her to touch him like that…he was afraid that things could go farther…farther than was appropriate between a man and his secretary.

Yet, he wanted them to go farther. Yes, his body reacted to hers, but more than that, he wanted to know her. She never talked to him or told him anything about herself. He had kept her so busy with work that she'd never had a chance to take a break and read or to even really eat.

'I wonder what she likes to read. Romance? Horror? Or is she into fashion magazines? Does she like peanut butter and jelly? Or tuna? Or is she more into salads?'

Michael groaned and flipped off the stereo. Blasting his music wasn't going to do anything but piss off the neighbors. The only way to forget about Liz for a little while was to sleep.

Little did he know that every night since he'd hired her, he dreamed about her.

Liz threw her purse down on her desk and settled herself into her chair for another day of work. Almost immediately the phone on her desk began to ring. She sighed and thought about just letting it ring until the person gave up. After all, Michael wouldn't arrive for another hour or two. She could just slack off and tell anyone who tried to bother her to just go screw themselves.

'Oh, who am I kidding?' she thought to herself. 'I'm not like that. I do my job and I do it well.'

Liz was jerked out of her thoughts and realized that she still had yet to pick up the ringing phone. She quickly hit the speakerphone button, too tired to fumble around with the receiver.

"Polar Productions Incorporated, Mr. Guerin's office. How may I help you?" Liz rattled off.

"Uh, hey, it's me."

Liz blinked in surprised and then said, "Mr. Guerin?"

"Yeah. I'm not feeling so well today and I won't be in.

There won't be very much for you to do there today, so just take phone calls until about 11 and then you can have the rest of the day off."

"Ok," said Liz. "Well, thanks. And I hope you feel better soon."

"Thank you," said Michael quietly, sounding truly surprised. "Well, I'd better let you get back to work."

"Sure," said Liz, suddenly feeling flustered. "Bye." She hung up quickly and then leaned back in her seat and sighed. Why did she have to get so nervous whenever she talked to Michael? She felt like a schoolgirl with an immature crush.

These thoughts left her head as she signed onto her computer and checked her e-mail for memos or meeting notices that she would need to schedule and respond to for Michael. She received only two more phone calls that morning and before she knew it, it was 11:00 am and she was ready to leave.

She tidied up her desk quickly, grabbed her purse, flicked off the lights, and was just stepping into the hallway when a completely crazy idea hit her. She quickly turned the lights back on and hurried to Michael's desk. She fumbled around a bit until she found what she needed and then left again, a smile on her face.

Michael groaned and rolled over onto his side, wondering where this sickness had come from. Had it been something he'd eaten? He hadn't vomited yet, but his stomach was queasy and he was sweating profusely. His head was pounding, but he couldn't raise himself out of bed to get any aspirin.

He'd been dozing all morning, but still he was tired. At 11:30 he heard a knock on his apartment door and he groaned to himself, pulling his pillow over his head and trying to will the person to come back some other time.

The knocking came again and then the familiar creaking of the door as someone stepped into his apartment.

Michael slowly pulled the pillow from his face and held his breath. Who could be coming to his apartment at 11:30 on a workday? And why would they walk right in just because they got no answer?

Michael mustered as much energy as he could and flopped down onto the floor, crawling under the bed. He lay there, on his stomach, facing his bedroom door. If anyone chose to enter, he would see them long before they would know where he was.

Michael heard footsteps in the outer rooms of his apartment, slowly progressing towards his room. Finally the footsteps stopped and Michael could make out shadows under the crack of his door. Someone was standing right there.

The door swung open slowly and Michael was met with the sight of Liz Parker.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?!" Michael bellowed at her from his position underneath his bed.
