Liz Parker was pacing back and forth in her living. She kept glancing at her watch wondering where he was. She dashed to the door when she heard a knock and quickly opened it.
“It’s about time. I wanted to wait for her at the airport not the other way around.” Alex Whitman smiled at her.
“A little anxious aren’t we?” Liz grabbed her bag and waited for her boyfriend outside.
“I haven’t seen my best friend in three months. I miss her.” Alex left the apartment and headed for his car while Liz locked up.
When they got in the car, Alex leaned over and brushed his lips against hers. “I actually like it when she’s not around.”
“Why? I thought you liked Maria.” Alex started the car and headed for the airport.
“I do, but when she’s not around I have you all to myself.” Liz giggled and playfully punched his arm.
“You’re impossible,” Liz said.
She looked out the window thinking she couldn’t wait to see her best friend again. Her and Maria Guerin had been friends since high school. It didn’t matter to Maria that they were in different social circles, unlike some of her other friends. They met in a private school, where Liz’s mom worked. Since Liz was a straight A student and one of her parents was part of the faculty she was able to attend one of the most expensive and prestigious high schools in Beverly Hills, CA for free. She had always felt out of place there since she wasn’t wealthy like the other students. Liz remembered how most of the juniors and seniors were already driving BMWs, Mercedes, and/or Lexuses.
“I’ll wait out here for you and Maria, Okay?” Liz nodded and got out of the car.
She entered the Airport and looked up at the monitors to see which gate Maria will be arriving at. When she spotted it, she quickens her stride to her destination and waited patiently for the arriving flight.
The intercom boomed, “Flight 246 will be arriving at gate C41 two minutes.”
Liz started to feel excited. Writing letters and talking on the phone just wasn’t the same. She wanted to bond and eat ice cream. Talk about girl stuff. Alex was great, but he doesn’t know how to have fun. People started piling out of the terminal and she bounced up so she could see over people’s heads. When she spotted her, Liz jumped up and waved her arms. Maria saw her and dashed in her direction. They grabbed each other and jumped up and down screaming.
“I’ve missed you, girl.” They continued to hug until someone from behind Liz said, “Do you have to scream so loud?”
Maria disentangled herself and rolled her eyes. “There is no need for jealousy.” The person huffed, Liz turned around to see who Maria was talking to and saw a beautiful blonde woman. She glanced over to Maria with a questioning look. “I like you to meet my brother’s girlfriend, Isabel Evans.”
Liz looked at her and wished she could look like that. She remembered when she first met Maria; she had the biggest crush on her brother, Michael. She never told anyone not even Maria because he never gave her a second glance. She knew she wasn’t his type. He would always go out with the curvy type and Liz was a twig growing up. People use to tease her and call her names like string bean. Her senior year was when she started filling out, but by then Michael was already out of high school and traveling for a year. She was a little nervous and anxious all at the same time waiting to see what Michael looked like now.
Maria watched Liz because she knew back in high school Liz had the hugest crush on her brother. Liz was so self-conscience about herself, so she never called Liz on it. She always thought Liz and her brother would make a cute couple, better then the girls Michael usually goes out with. Liz and Michael were the same, but different. Maria loved her brother deeply and since Liz was such a considerate caring person, she knew she would treat him with the respect he deserves. Maria glanced over at Isabel and rolled her eyes. She couldn’t stand that girl. She doesn’t understand what her brother sees in her, except maybe her body but personality wise, Isabel had none. She watched as her brother approached them and glanced at each faces. His gaze lingered on Liz’s for a while. Maria smiled to herself, ‘It’s about time he started to notice.’
“It’s about time you sauntered yourself over her.” Michael just smirked. “I didn’t want to experience the whole girlfriend reunion thing.” He looked over to Isabel and said, “Were they loud?”
Isabel laughed and said, “Yes they were.”
Maria leaned to Liz and said, “She just mad because she doesn’t have friends.”
Liz looked down, she doesn’t know if she should laugh or not. Feeling awkward all of sudden she backed away from the group, while Maria and Isabel argued amongst themselves.
Michael noticed when Liz moved away from the group. “Will you guys please shut the hell up!” Three stunned faces turned toward him. “You’ve been arguing ever since Maria first arrived to Italy, just stop you’re giving me a headache.” He left in the direction of baggage claim. He wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. Those two together was a mistake, but he had to admit that sometimes he would rather have his sister’s company over Isabel’s. Isabel swore she was a princess; it was cute in the beginning. Then it became annoying because she wanted to be waited on hand and foot. Michael will be damned if he did that for any woman, but she was incredible sexy and not to mention an animal in bed.
Isabel glared at Maria. She hated that girl. She doesn’t know why Michael invited her to come to Italy. She thought they were having fun without her. She loved spending time with Michael. They were going out before they both went to Italy and she could feel them getting closer. She thinks he might be the one and it helps that her father loves him too.
Liz helped Maria carry her bags out to Alex’s car. “What do you have in these things?”
Maria laughed and said, “Souvenirs.” Alex got out of the car and helped Liz with the bags.
“Souvenirs, huh. Did you leave anything in Italy?” Maria lightly punched him on the arm. “Very funny.”
Alex gave Liz a peck on the lips before holding the passenger door for her. Michael turned away because for some reason that bothered him. The ride home was pretty much silent.
After they dropped off Isabel and Michael, Liz shifted in her seat to face Maria.
“So tell me Maria how was Italy?”
Maria beamed, “It was so beautiful. Michael showed me all the sights and I even went into museums. You really should have come along.”
“You know I couldn’t afford a trip like that.”
“Yeah, but it was going to your birthday present from me.”
Liz shook her head and said, “You know I couldn’t accept a gift like that. Anyway, your brother would probably think I was leaching off you. If he doesn’t think that know.” Liz turned back around in her seat and sighed. Sometimes she’d wonder if Maria regretted be friends with someone who couldn’t even afford a box of crackers at times. Her and Maria shared an apartment together and thanks to Liz’s scholarship, she could pay Maria her share of the rent up front. She still needed to find some type of employment to help with all the other necessities.
Maria sensed Liz’s insecurities, but she didn’t know how to ease them. There were times Liz would rather starve herself then accept a meal from Maria. She just wished she could do something for her.
“Didn’t you say you were looking for a job on campus?” Alex asked feeling the tension in the car. He also knew how proud Liz was about trying to make it on her own and she doesn’t want Maria to think she was only friends with her for her money. So, Liz would rather struggle then to ask for help.
Liz smiled at Alex grateful for the change of subject. She really hated talking about her financial situation. “Yeah I did say that, and I found something. I mean they aren’t going to pay me much and I had to work my schedule around it, but it sounds like it could fun.”
“What type of work is it?” Maria asked.
“Modeling for the art department.” Maria smiled. She had too; her brother had decided to take up art because he was so impressed by Italy’s beauty and fine art. Isabel didn’t like the idea so that made Maria love it even more. Now adding to the fact that Liz and her brother might just start to hit it off, is priceless.
“That sounds like fun, but you are going to be fully clothed right?” Liz threw her bag at Maria. Pretending to be insulted Liz said, “Of course, I am. How could you think that?”
Maria laughed and said, “I’m just checking. One could never know.”
“How about we go out and celebrate? I haven’t been dancing since you left.” Maria smiled and glanced at Alex.
“You, Mr. Whitman, haven’t taken my best friend out dancing. I’m appalled.” Alex threw her a dirty look. Maria smiled and said, “I’m going to have to find my girl another boyfriend, who’s willing to satisfied her needs to dance and have fun.”
Alex liked Maria, but she always had the habit of involving herself in his and Liz’s relationship. He loved being with Liz and he’ll admit he’s not the partying type, but Maria didn’t have to point that out every chance she could. It doesn’t help that Maria is a flirt who doesn’t have a boyfriend; she’d expose Liz to all the guys she knows or want to know. Alex hated that because he didn’t want to lose Liz. She was beautiful, intelligent, and laughed at his jokes. What more could a guy asked for?
Liz looked over at Alex and said, “Do you want to come along?” Maria snorted and thought, ‘Yeah right. Him go dancing.’
Alex narrowed his eyes at Maria in the rearview mirror as he pulled into Maria and Liz’s apartment’s parking lot. He turned to Liz, placed a possessive hand on her knee, and said, “I’d love to go.”
Maria was shocked, but she recovered quickly. Liz said, “Great. I can invite Max along so when you don’t feel like dancing you’ll have someone to talk to.” Alex smiled. She was always thinking of others. How could he not love her? He just hoped she felt the same way.
Maria smiled also and said, “That’s a great idea, and I could invite my brother along to. Since this is a welcome home party.”
“And don’t forget me getting a job party.” Liz added.
They all emptied out of the car. Liz glanced at Alex feeling guilty. She liked being around Alex, but secretly she was excited. She couldn’t wait to see Michael. ‘Get a grip Parker, it’s not like you have a chance. I mean look at your competition. Whoa, wait a minute what am I thinking. I have Alex and I’m happy with him. So why am I thinking about Michael,’ She thought. Liz was confused she thought her crush on Michael should have dissipated by now. So why couldn’t she get him off her mind.
They all gather into Maria and Liz’s apartment. Maria used her cell phone to call Michael while Liz used their home phone to call Max. After they hung up the phone, Liz said, “Max said he’d be her in two hours.” Maria shook her head and said, “Well Michael can’t make it. So I guess it’s just us four.”
Both Maria and Liz were secretly disappointed, but they both hid it well. Alex left to change for their night out.
“Even though Italy was amazing, I still kind of miss this little dump of an apartment.” Liz smiled.
“You can call this place what you like, just don’t leave me here alone for that long again. I was bored out of my skull.” Maria laughed and hugged her.
“I’ll never leave you alone again, until we find someone that’ll keep your interest.” Maria winked.
Liz shook her head and said, “Why do you always give Alex such a hard time? He’s a great guy.”
“Yeah, he is a great guy, but he’s not for you.” Liz sighed; she wondered if part of her doubt for her relationship with Alex hadn’t something to do with Maria’s meddling.
“You guys have been going out for a little over a year and can you honestly tell me you’re happy? I mean, Liz, you guys act like an old married couple. You need excitement in your life and he’s not doing that for you.”
Liz bowed her head down she knew Maria was right. Even after the length of time they’ve been together, she wasn’t happy. She was just comfortable around him and she didn’t have to pretend or feel intimidated. She didn’t have to worry about where she belonged.
“I do love him, Maria.”
“I’m sure you do, sweetie.” Maria took Liz’s hand and led her to her room. She opened her closet door and started sorting through her clothes.
“But I know you’re not happy.” Maria walked over to her and sat beside her. “What happened to Mr. Right you always talked about growing up?”
Liz shrugged. “I use to be a romantic, but now I’m a realist. I know there is no such thing as true love or love at first sight. I was naïve.” Liz desperately wanted to believe in it, but how could she.
“Liz there is, but cowering away won’t make Mr. Right appear.” Liz lied back and sighed. She wished it were Alex he has been great to her. They started going out after her mother died. Alex had looked out for both her and Max and she were appreciative of that. He was her rock and she didn’t know what she would have done if Alex wasn’t there for her. She knew Maria was right, she wasn’t happy. She couldn’t return Alex’s feelings, not the way he deserved.
Maria smiled sympathetically and said, “You know he’s not the man of your dreams. I remember you telling me that you’re going to save yourself for that perfect man who sweeps you off your feet. Is that Alex?” Seeing Liz’s discomfort she added, “I think it’s romantic Liz. I wish I’d waited.”
Liz looked up and smiled. She was thankful for Maria’s friendship. Maria was also grateful for Liz’s. Liz had always been there for her and she’d planned on being there for Liz.
“This is what you should wear and I’m borrowing this outfit to wear.” Liz laughed.
They had just put the finishing touches on their look when Max and Alex arrived. Max took Liz in a big bear hug and said, “So, how’s my baby sister.” Liz swatted at him and scrunched up her nose. “I’m not a baby, Max. How many times do I have to tell you that.” Max grabbed her again in a headlock and said, “You’ll always be my baby sister in my eyes.”
Liz smiled; she’d complain out loud to him, but she loved being his baby sister. She looked up to him. He was the best big brother a girl could have and since they only had each other, they would always support and be there for each other.
Liz had missed her brother, instead of going to the club the group stayed home and chatted. Maria was excited to talk about Italy again to Max. Telling him everything, she did and saw. Max told the group about his internship at the movie studio. Liz told Max about her new job in the Art Dept. Alex told them how liberating it was to tutor math to his kids. He liked to call them that. They were all excited about starting classes again, but at the same time dreaded it.
They were all having fun, until Maria’s jet lag kicked in. She left telling everyone goodnight. Alex said he had to go because he had one more tutoring session in the morning. Liz kissed him good night and walked him to the door.
“He has it bad for you.” Liz looked over at Max.
“Liz, I can see something is wrong.” He patted the couch. Liz flopped down next to her brother and leaned her head on his shoulder.
“Nothing is wrong, Max. I guess I’m just tired.” Max pulled on a piece of her hair. “I can tell when there’s something bothering you. I am after all your big brother.” Liz chuckled and said, “I guess I just starting to stress about my financial situation. I really need a job, Max. I feel bad relying on Maria to pay for everything.”
Max turned around and faced Liz. “I know that’s not what’s bothering you. Did you and Alex have a fight?” Liz stood up and said, “I’m not talking about my relationship with my brother.” Max chuckled. “Listen, I could give you advice. I mean I’m a guy and Alex is my best friend.” He smiled.
Liz sighed. “I don’t know. Maybe I’m starting to feel…. smothered. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I adore him, but ….”
“But you don’t feel the same way he does.” Liz ducks her head feeling ashamed. “Have you talked to him?” Liz shook her head. She went back to the couch and laid her head in Max’s lap. “I’m so confused Max. I really wish Alex was the one I wanted, but I don’t know. I don’t know anything.” Liz felt disconcerted. She wasn’t sure what she wanted.
“He only wants you happy, you know.” Max felt her nod in his lap. He soothingly stroked her hair. “I wish I could tell you what to do, but I can’t.” Liz sat up and said, “I know.” Max hugged her. “You look exhausted. Why don’t you go to bed?” Liz nodded. “Thank you.” She hugged Max again and said, “I love you, big brother.” Max smiled. “I know, baby sister. I love you too.”
TBC????? Should I continue?

Maria was looking through her closet, tossing clothes in many directions. Liz was in the living room organizing her schedule and books preparing herself for her first day of class. She was nervous about modeling in front of various groups of people. She saw herself a being boring and plain. She was afraid she would just disappoint the class.
“Do you want any of these?” Maria asked as she dropped a pile of clothes on the floor. Liz shook her head. “Well at least look through them, I’m just going to give them to the good will.” Liz nodded.
“Come on lets go to the mall.” Liz put her items aside and stood up. “Okay, I haven’t been window shopping in awhile.” Maria giggled, they both grabbed their purses and climbed into Maria’s car.
“I just have to buy a new wardrobe. The one I had is so out of date.” Liz smiled; shook her head and said, “But you just bought them six months ago.” Maria smiled. “Liz Liz Liz, you know how fast fashion evolves.” Liz rolled her eyes; she never understood how Maria could spend her money on frivolous things.
They entered the mall and the first store Maria walked in was Neman Marcus. Liz would never shop here because the prices were outrages. Maria was in the dressing room, while Liz browsed. She saw this cute crop top, but when she glanced at the price, she quickly returned it to the rack. They wanted 45 dollars for it.
Maria came out beaming, she handed her stuff to the cashier and paid for it. She walked over to Liz and asked, “Did you find anything?” Liz shook her head. “Lets get out of here.” Liz was grateful for that and followed Maria out of the store.
By lunchtime both Maria and Liz was packed down with bags. They were on there way to Maria’s car when Liz said, “Isn’t that your brother’s girlfriend?” Maria looked over to where Liz was trying to point at and said, “Oh my God.”
Maria strode over to them and tapped the shorter blond girl on her shoulder. When she spun around, her face lit up. Maria dropped her bags and the two girls hugged. Liz glanced over at Isabel, noticed how she rolled her eyes and then gave Maria an evil look.
“When did you get back into town?” Maria asked the blonde. “Last week, my boyfriend proposed to me.” She showed Maria her ring. “Oh my God, that is beautiful.” The girl glowed. “When are you getting married?” Maria was happy for her. “When we graduate, we don’t want to rush into anything.” Maria hugged her again.
“Did you meet my friend?” Tess turned towards Liz and shook her head. “Well come on, I’ll introduce you.” Maria motioned Liz to come closer. “Liz, I’d like you to meet Tess. Tess this is Liz.” They shook hands. “It’s nice to meet you, Liz.” Liz smiled. “Same here. I’ve heard so much about you.” Tess blushed and said, “Well don’t believe everything you heard.” They both laughed. “Have you guys met Isabel?” Maria and Liz nodded. “She’s my brother’s girlfriend.” Tess smiled and said, “That’s great may be we could all get together sometime.” Maria nodded and said, “That sounds like a plan.” Maria glared at Isabel and said, “But without you.” Isabel crossed her arms. “Like I’d want to be anywhere near you,” she scolded.
Maria laughed and Liz and Tess shared a glance. “Come on Tess lets get out of here.” Tess shrugged to Liz and said, “I’ll talk to you later,” to Maria.
There was a knock at Michael’s door. He grumbled as he went to see who was disturbing him. He looked through the peephole and sighed. He opened the door as Isabel rushed pass him. He ran his finders through his hair and rolled his eyes. He wasn’t in the mood for one of Isabel’s tantrums. All he wanted to do was prepare himself for class tomorrow. He was eager to learn more about art. He used to doodle when he was growing up, but it didn’t interest him. After his trip to Italy, experiencing beauty everywhere he turned. Everything there was vibrant not like here in the states.
“Are you even listening to me?” Isabel’s voice boomed bringing Michael out of his thoughts. He looked up at her getting aggravated by the minute. “I’m not listening to you when you put my sister down like that,” he yelled. He was tired of this shit. At least Maria had the decency and respect not to bad mouth Isabel when he was around, but Isabel was some piece of work. He wondered why he was still with her.
Isabel was hurt by his outburst, but she quickly concealed it. She glanced over to see what had occupied Michael’s attention, when she saw the art supplies she went ballistic. “I thought I told you that you’re not taking art up as a major.” Michael stood up and advanced to her. “What did you just say? Nobody tells me what to do.” Isabel turned her back to him and wondered why he was treating her this way.
Michael took a deep breath and walked around so he was facing Isabel. “I’m sorry, but I control my own life, not you or my sister. I want to take up art, so why can’t you just support my decision.” Isabel looked down she knew she was being selfish, but if her and Michael were to be together he had to have a career where he could earn a living. He wouldn’t be able to do that with art. Michael goes over to the fridge and said, “Are you hungry?” Isabel nodded and Michael looked in the fridge. There wasn’t anything in there quick so he decided delivery would be better. “How about Chinese?” Isabel smiled and handed him the phone.
The girls arrived home after several hours of shopping. Liz was exhausted and all she wanted to do was go to sleep. Maria dumped all her bags in her room. She wasn’t in the mood to put them away. “Did you figure out what you’re going to wear for tomorrow?” Liz shook her head, she hadn’t thought about it. “Well come on lets go look.” Liz reluctantly got off the comfortable couch and followed Maria to her room. Maria was searching through Liz closet, while Liz was lying on her bed, wanting to close her eyes.
“This is perfect.” Maria held up a pleated wrap around skirt and a sleeveless half shirt. “This will give you that sexy innocent schoolgirl look. Which is perfect for you.” Liz rolled her eyes dramatically. Maria threw a shirt at her and said, “I’m only trying to help.” She pretended her feelings were hurt. Liz said, “I know. I’m just nervous about tomorrow and I’m exhausted.” Maria laughed. “Why don’t you go to sleep? Tomorrow is a big day for you.” Liz nodded and walked into the bathroom to take a shower and get ready for bed.

|AN: Ok guys I finally updated it. Thanks for all your feedback and you have to tell me how this part is.|
Michael was walking with his best friend, Kyle Valenti, to the on campus café.
“I can’t believe you did it man.” Kyle shook his head.
“I thought we were going to be bachelors for life and you go off and get engaged.”
Kyle chuckled, he had to admit he thought the same thing, but Tess was different from any other girl he used to date. He knew from the moment he met her that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. He just hoped Michael would find someone like that.
“I heard that you and Isabel are almost at that point.”
Michael spited out his water and said, “What?!”
“Tess was telling me that you and Isabel are in love and that marriage keeps coming up in conversation.”
Kyle laughed at the bewildered expression on Michael’s face. “I gather from that look that never happened.”
Michael shook his head. “The only M words that comes up in our conversations are: Money, Movies, and more sex. I’m never getting married especially to a chick like Isabel.”
They grabbed lunch and paid for it. They found a table outside and sat down.
“You’re 22 years old don’t you ….”
“Exactly I’m only 22 years old.” Michael interrupted. “I’m not even thinking about marriage right now.”
Kyle shook his head. “Then why are you leading Isabel on?”
“I’m not I can’t help it if the bitch is delusional.”
“If that’s the way you feel about her then why are you even with her?”
Michael smirked and said, “Like you have to ask.”
Kyle sighed. “One day you’re going to find a women that’s going to sweep you off your feet.”
Michael laughed and said with a mouth full of food, “You’re starting to sound like a bitch. What has Tess done to you?”
Kyle chuckled. “She a great women and I’ll do anything to make her happy.”
Michael clicked his tongue and said, “I can’t believe that my partner in crime is whipped.”
Kyle threw his napkin at him and said, “Just wait, man. You’re going to meet a women that’s going to make you forget about your doggish ways.”
Michael wiped his mouth stood up and walked to the trashcan with Kyle following. They both threw their garbage away and placed their trays on top.
“And I’m going to be there when that happens.”
Michael laughed and said, “Never gonna happen. I’ll catch you later, my art class awaits.” They slap hands and head their separate ways.
Liz arrived to her last modeling gig of the night before the other students. She even beat the teacher here. She walked around the classroom and stopped in front of the window. She thought this would be easy, but she never realized how immature men could be. Her first class she was already nervous and the teacher had tried everything to loosen her up. She finally did enough to be able to sit before the class but the guys whistled at her making her feel like a piece of meat. Her technique was working for all her other classes. She had to be relaxed to have that "natural pose" as the teacher called it. She decided to keep this as impersonal as possible. She didn’t need to know the faces drawing her.
She heard the door open and turned around thinking it was the teacher, Mr. Adams. When she saw who walked through the door her heart dropped. She couldn’t believe it was him. Her heart started beating fast and she quickly turned her back to him before he could spot her. Now what was she going to do. The man she had a crush on her whole life was about to sketch her. How was she supposed to keep her cool?
Michael walked in anxious to start his class. He came early because he wanted to talk to the teacher and get a few pointers. He didn’t she his teacher anywhere, he walked further into the classroom and saw movement in his peripheral vision. He turned his head and saw a girl with her back to him. He assumed it was another student so he asked, “Are we the only ones here so far?”
Liz tried to swallow past the lump in her throat. She slowly turned around and said, “Yeah it looks that way.”
Michael stared at her knowing she looked familiar, but didn’t know from where. Liz noticed this and her feelings were hurt. She didn’t know why she did this to herself. Why would she think she could make an impression on anyone? She turned back around and faced the window trying to hide her tears, she felt so stupid.
She took a deep breath and was relieved when she heard Mr. Adams say, “Ah, Ms. Parker I’m glad you came back. After that last class I was afraid you might have change your mind.”
Liz faced him gave him a weak smile and said, “Yeah, I’m back. I’m not a quitter.”
Mr. Adams nodded and said, “Good, that’s good to hear.”
He turned towards Michael and offered his hand.
“I’m Mr. Adams. Are you one of my students?” Michael accepted his hand and nodded.
“Yes, I am. My name is Michael Guerin.”
“Nice to meet you Mr. Guerin and welcome to my class. Have you met Ms. Parker yet?”
The name sound familiar to him then it finally hit him she’s his sister’s best friend.
“Yeah, we met. She’s a student to?”
The teacher smiled and said, “No, she’s our model. She’s been doing a wonderful job.” Michael nodded.
“Um, I had a question for you before the class started.” Mr. Adams nodded.
“I just wanted some pointers. I mean I went to Italy this fall and the artwork there was beautiful. How can I get my work to look like that?”
Mr. Adams ushered him to a seat and called Liz over to the stool in front of the class. Other students were filing in and he looked at Michael and said, “Art is emotion. If you draw with your heart, then your work will always be beautiful.” Michael stared at him in confusion and the teacher shook his head.
“You’ll see what I’ll mean in time.”
Liz sat in the middle of the class feeling more self-conscience than ever before. As more students filled up the room, she caught brief comments from the guys. Some wanted to know when she’d take her clothes off and others said they wouldn’t mind taking her home with them. She stole a glance at Michael and sighed. She knew this was going to be a long night.
Liz was trying to focus on the far wall behind all the students’ head while Mr. Adams was lecturing them and answer all their questions. He pointed to Liz and said, “The first step of an artist is to position the model that best flatters her. Does anyone have any suggestions?”
Some people raised their hands and instructed her where and how to sit. It was an uncomfortable position, but Liz held still for the artists to be.
Michael was becoming frustrated. He’s been working on Liz’s outline for an hour and it still looked awful. He was wondering if maybe he made a mistake in his career change. He had been concentrating so hard that he didn’t notice anyone looking over his shoulder.
“Slow down, Mr. Guerin. This isn’t a race. Art takes time. You should look at the model first then you’ll be able to draw her.”
Michael shook his head trying to figure out what he was talking about. He was looking at her. How would he know what he was drawing? Noticing the confusion Mr. Adams said, “Turn around.” Michael did as he was told.
“Now tell me what color is Ms. Parker’s shoes.”
Michael furrowed his eyebrows and wondered what her shoes have to do with art. Mr. Adams chuckled.
“If you can’t tell me that then you really didn’t see her. There is some much detail in everything and an artist should be able to draw that. Remember that.”
He walks up to Liz and said, “Ok class that all for tonight. Next week I want this to be completed and it will be graded.” The class groans as everyone packed up their things and left.

Liz came home and flopped on her bed. Maria walked into the doorway and asks, “Bad day at school?”
“Argh! I thought college men were more mature then high school guys.” Maria walked into the room and sat next to her. “What happened?” Liz turned to her side and said, “They just made me feel uncomfortable.” Liz didn’t want to talk about it. Her feelings were still hurt by Michael not noticing her. “I’m just going to take a shower and forget this day ever happened.” Maria chuckled and Liz rolled her eyes and said, “And pray to God that it gets better.” Maria gave Liz a quick hug before they headed their separate ways.
Michael walked in his apartment slamming the door behind him. He got a beer out of the fridge and sat down at his table. He looked at his sketches and thought they were fine. He liked the way they looked; he didn’t understand why his teacher was giving him a hard time.
There was a knock at his door. He stood up and answered it. Isabel stood on the other side of the doorway. Before Michael could say anything, Isabel invited herself in. “How was class?” She noticed his drawings spread out on the table. She picked one up and said, “This is beautiful. You drew this?” She glanced at Michael and he nodded. “I didn’t think you had this much talent. Who’s the girl?”
Michael sat at the table and before answering he took a swig of his beer. “Thanks, but my teacher didn’t like it.” He looked at one of his drawing and at the women in it. “This is Maria’s best friend. You met her. She’s the model for the art department.”
Isabel looked over his shoulder and said, “That’s right. She’s the quiet one.” Isabel took the drawing from him and said, “She not really pretty is she?” Michael’s head snapped up and grabbed it back. He swept his eyes over it again and realized he didn’t do her justice. In person this model was pretty, beautiful even. Why didn’t he notice that before? He threw the paper on the table disgusted with himself, realizing this is what Mr. Adams meant.
Modeling in front of groups of people had become easier to Liz. This was her third week and she felt at ease with most of her classes. The only one that she hated, but loved to go to was her last one, the one with Michael Guerin. There were these two guys in it that gave her a hard time; they tried every tactic to get her to go with them. Liz wasn’t stupid; she wasn’t about to go anywhere alone with them. So she had a plan to stay behind until everyone was gone before waiting for the shuttle to take her home.
Liz left a half hour later then the rest of the class, she stepped outside quickly scanned her surroundings before heading to the bus stop. When she thought she was safe, she strode silently hoping she didn’t have to wait long.
Liz sat on the bench checking her watch while she waited for the bus. “Hey, looks who’s still here.” Liz turned her head toward the voice and paled. It was the two guys she was trying desperately to avoid. One of them sat next to her and the other one stood behind her. Liz quickly got up and asked, “What do you want?” The guy sitting down chuckled. “Baby girl, we just want to get to know you. Come sit down next to me so we can get acquainted.” Liz backed up until her back hit the metal pole that held the shuttle stop sigh. “I really just want to go home, I’m tired.”
The guy that was standing behind her neared her and touched her face. “Honey, if you were tired you should have just told us. Listen, Jake here will go fetch the car and we’ll take real good care of you.”
Liz swallowed and said, “I just remembered, I forgot something in class I have to go back. Thanks for the offer though.” She tried to sneak pass them, but both of them blocked her passage. “If I didn’t know any better, I would think you’re trying to avoid us. You don’t want to hurt our feelings, do you?” Liz tried to slink passed them, but they grabbed her. “Please just leave me alone.”
Michael was halfway home, when he realized he forgot something. He cursed himself and turned around. He went back to the classroom and was relieved when it wasn’t locked. He grabbed his book, when he was about to leave Mr. Adams stopped him. “Mr. Guerin, what are you still doing here?” Michael held up his book and replied, “I forgot this, sorry.” Mr. Adams nodded and asked, “Do you have time to talk for a minute?” Michael shrugged then nodded. He sat in one of the desks.
“Mr. Guerin, I’m really impressed with your work. You’ve improved a lot from the beginning.” Michael smiled and said, “Thanks. I’m still not happy with it. I’m starting to think maybe this isn’t my calling.” Michael stood up proceeding to leave until Mr. Adams responded, “Art is your passion, I can see the potential in you. You just have to open yourself up to it. You’re still holding yourself back, once you put everything into your work you’ll see the difference.” Mr. Adams grabbed his belongings and walked to the door. “Coming?” Michael nodded and followed him out.
Michael was on his way home when out of the corner of his eye he saw two guys harassing a girl. He was about to drive past, but when he noticed who it was, he pulled over and got out. “Is there a problem?” All three of them looked in his direction, one of the guys said, “This doesn’t concern you, so leave.” Michael approached Liz and grabbed her out of their grasp. “What the ⊕#%$ are you doing? She’s with us.” Michael told Liz to get in the car, and then he faced both attackers. Michael glared at them and growled, “If you lay so much as a hand on her, you can forget about your art career.” One of the guys snickered. “What and you think we're supposed to be scared of you?” Michael grabbed one guys finger and twisted it back making him scream. “Yes, I do.” Michael pushed him away and warned, “If I find out you’ve been bothering her, I won’t be as nice the next time.” He walked to his car and glance once more behind him, then slipped into the driver’s seat. Before he took off he looked over at Liz and asked, “Are you okay?” Liz nodded as a tear slid down her cheek. “Thank you,” she whispered.
He stopped at a red light and glanced over at her. “Are you sure you’re okay?” Liz nodded and took a deep breath. She turned to face him and said, “Just a little shaken, but I’m alright.” Liz ran her trembling hands through her hair and said, “If you didn’t get there when you did…” The tears Liz was holding back finally escaped when the realization of what could have happen came to light. Her shoulders shook, and she hugged herself feeling alone. Michael pulled over and wrapped his arms around her whispering soothing words. “Shhh… they won’t bother you again, I promise. From now on you’ll wait for me and I’ll drive you home.” He lifted her chin up and said, “Okay?”
Liz turned away, she felt embarrassed. Here she was crying on Michael’s shoulder, a guy she had always drooled after. “Thanks, but you don’t have to.” Michael smiled; he never noticed how beautiful her eyes were. “Either that or I’ll have Maria pick you up every night. You’re not waiting out here anymore.” Liz gave him a fierce look and said, “And who are you to tell me what I can and can’t do?” Michael sighed. “I don’t want to argue, I just think it’s best if you don’t stand out this late at night.” Liz rolled her eyes and said, “Since when do you care? Just take me home.”
Michael was about to pull out when Liz said, “I’m sorry. I’m probably acting like an ungrateful bitch.” She turned towards him and continued, “I really am thankful for you showing up when you did. Maria doesn’t like that fact that I wait for the bus either, but I don’t want to inconvenience anyone.”
“We have the last class together, and I pass your place before I get to mine. You won’t be an inconvenience.” Liz finally agreed. Michael took her home and walked her to the door. She turned around and wrapped her arms around his neck. “Thanks again, for everything.” He hugged her back before turning to leave. Liz watched him go and smiled as she entered her home.

Weeks had flown by and Michael had kept to his word by driving Liz home after class. Liz became more comfortable around him, making her infatuation with him blossom into love.
Liz sat in the front of the art room waiting for the last class of the day to start, deep in thought, staring out the window, not really seeing anything, that she didn’t hear someone enter the room.
Michael walked in and saw Liz facing the window with the moonlight surrounding her with shimmering light making her hair glisten. He never saw anything so beautiful so he rushed to his seat to capture the sight before him, silently taking his sketchpad out and unconsciously cleared his throat.
He looked up just as Liz jumped around startled, cursing himself for disturbing the most breathtaking picture he could have had. Their eyes met and she smiled, but he noticed something different about them, something he couldn’t place his finger on. People started piling in making him lose her gaze.
The class started and Michael could hear pencils scribbling across paper. Michael picked up his charcoal pencil and started to outline Liz’s form, and then he grabbed his pastels to add definition and color. He started with her silky chocolate hair, and then drew the way her hair was tucked behind her ear. He worked on her lips and the way they curled up into a sensual caring smile. He finished her nose and was working on her eyes and that’s when he realized what was missing. The sparkle that had always been in her eyes was gone. He always loved to draw her eyes because there was so much life and knowledge behind them, but the light wasn’t there tonight.
“You noticed it too Mr. Guerin?” Mr. Adams asked from behind him.
Michael nodded slightly, but kept staring at his drawing. Knowing something or somebody caused that made his anger flare up. Ever since that night he saved her from those guys harassing her he had felt protective of her.
The rest of the class went by quickly and when it finally ended Michael gathered his belongings. He waited for Liz by the door, but before she came out of the backroom, Mr. Adams approached him saying, “Mr. Guerin you haven’t handed in all your assignments.”
Michael turned to him giving him a bewildered look.
“In the first few weeks you failed to hand in one of your drawings. There are less than two weeks left for this class and for you to get the grade you deserve I had better receive an artwork from you before the beginning of next week,” Mr. Adams stated.
Michael nodded, and was about to say something, but Liz entered the room making him lose his train of thought. As Liz approached them, Michael automatically reached for her bag and led her to his car. He opened the door for her and after she slid in, he locked and closed it. He walked around his car pulling out his key to unlock his door, but smirked when Liz was already reaching over to unlock it for him. He got in and started the car, driving Liz to her place in silence. Every once in awhile Michael would glance in her direction, but all she did was stare out the window. He pulled up to her building and she was about to get out but Michael stopped her by asking, “Liz can I ask you for a favor?”
Liz sat back down and faced Michael. “Of course. After everything you have done for me you don’t have to ask.” Michael gave her a grateful smile and said, “Well it seems I forgot to hand in an assignment to Mr. Adams and I need to before the end of this week.”
Liz chuckled and asked, “So you need a model?”
Michael smirked and responded, “You always just cut to the chase, don’t you?”
Liz shrugged and asked, “Just let me know when and I’ll be there.”
Michael gave her a half smile and Liz closed her door saying, “Let’s go. I’m guessing you’d prefer your place.”
Michael turned the ignition on and softly answered, “Thanks.”
Michael entered his apartment first flipping the switch to flood the room with light, then he stepped aside to allow Liz to come in and turned his answering machine on to listen to his messages while he shut the door. Isabel’s voice filled his place but he quickly pushed the button to cut her voice off.
Liz’s back was facing Michael and she had closed her eyes when she heard the bubbly voice of the girlfriend of the man she loved. Liz thought she was so stupid; she didn’t understand why she kept doing this to herself. She had a little hope that maybe Michael felt something for her, but she could never compete with someone like Isabel.
“Do you mind if I order a pizza?” Michael asked bringing her out of her thoughts.
Liz shook her head noticing that Michael already had the phone in his hand and he proceed to order two pies anyway.
Liz asked Michael where he wanted her so he looked around his place for the perfect spot, that’s when an idea hit him. He opened the curtains and smiled dragging a chair near the window, motioning Liz to sit there. She obeyed and Michael stepped back. It wasn’t exactly like the scene he walked in on in the art room, but he’ll go by memory for the details so it would do. The doorbell rang, signally to Michael that the delivery guy was here. He opened the door, paying the man and then brought the food to the table.
“Are you sure you’re not hungry?” Michael asked holding a slice out to her.
When the aroma hit Liz’s nose, she walked over to Michael and snatched it from him, not realizing how hungry she really was.
They ate and had several beers. Since Liz wasn’t a big drinker she was feeling beyond feeling tipsy. Michael had more then she did so they were at the same place. Liz reached over and wiped some sauce off of his chin. She slowly traced her finger around his lips while leaning closer to him. In one quick clumsily motion Liz replaced her finger with her mouth. Michael gasped in shock allowing Liz to have full access to his mouth. Her mind was fuzzy and all her senses felt alive. Everything happened so fast.
The next morning Liz opened one eye and quickly shut it when the light hurt her head. She rolled over but something blocked her from completing her full rotation. She squinted to see what it was and paled when she saw that it was a person. Not any person, but the man that occupied most of her fantasies. She quickly jumped out of bed and started shaking when she realized she didn’t have any clothes on. With trembling hands, she searched for her clothing. She stood still and held her breath when she heard Michael moving. When he settled back down she threw on her clothes and ran out of the apartment. She kept running until her side hurt and stopped once she reached a bus stop. A bus came two minutes later and she got on not caring where it was going.
Liz was angry with herself. She couldn’t believe she gave up her virginity that way. She had always dreamt it to be with Michael, but she wanted her first time to be special, momentous. Tears were sliding down her face as she clutched her shirt tighter around herself. She doesn’t remember anything about last night. Everything was so fuzzy and the more she forced herself to recall it made her head pound.
The driver brought Liz out of her reverie and asked where she was heading. She couldn’t think while her head was throbbing; she finally pulled herself together and told the driver where she needed to go. She arrived at the bus stop, which was a block from her apartment. She walked to the door and unlocked it, praying that she didn’t run into Maria on her way to her room. She felt drained and didn’t think she could look her best friend in the eyes. She walked into her room and locked it. She stood in front of her mirror and examined herself. There were black streaks down her face, her hair was tangled, and her clothes were askew. She slowly peeled off her shirt keeping her eyes trained on her reflection and swore when she realized she left her bra behind. She stepped closer to the mirror and turned her head slightly. Her eyes welled up when she saw marks on her body that could have only been acquired through passion. She met her own eyes and asked, “What have you done?”
There was a light tapping at her door, and so she took a deep breath to steady her voice.
“Yeah?” she called through the door.
Maria turned the knob but frowned when it was locked.
“Liz why’s the door locked?”
Liz didn’t answer, she kept staring at her reflection.
“Chica Alex is here,” Maria said, her voice laced with concern.
Liz wiped her face and cleared her throat.
“Tell him to give me a few. I have to take a shower,” Liz said lightly.
“Will do,” Maria responded.
Liz gave herself one last glance and went into the bathroom. She turned the water on and waited for the temperature to be perfect. She stepped in allowing the stream of water to massage her body. She grabbed for her loofah and poured soap on it, inhaling the lavender fragrance to penetrate her senses hoping it would help relax her.
She brushed the suds across her skin, but when she reached her stomach she gasped and dropped her loofah. Her eyes blinked furiously trying to grasp on to the memory. For one brief second, she saw Michael trailing his tongue across her belly but as fast as it came, it was gone. She held her face under the spray washing away her tears that were also falling.
She loved Michael so much it hurt and knowing she gave herself to him during a drunken frenzy made her feel unworthy. She wondered if Michael remembered anything about last night. She would feel better if she knew Michael had some kind of feelings for her. Not only that but she betrayed Alex’s trust.
“Alex,” she whispered.
She knew what she needed to do and knew it wouldn't be easy.
She turned off the water and wrapped a towel around herself. She went through her drawers and closet looking for an outfit that would hide the evidence of the night before. She gave herself a once over and straightened her shoulders before walking out to do the hardest thing possible. Break up with Alex.
Alex stood up when Liz came into the living room.
Liz forced a smile and asked, “Do you want to go for a walk?”
Alex returned her smile and took her hand. Liz led him out the door and they walked in silence for a while. When they arrived at the park Liz sat down on a swing and Alex looked at her with concern.
“Liz what’s ..,”
“Alex I can’t be with you any more,” Liz interrupted. She knew she had to spit it out or else she would lose her courage.
“What? Why not?”
“Because I don’t deserve you.”
“Liz in my eyes you're perfect.”
Liz stood up and knelt in front of him. “You’re such a wonderful person. You’ve giving me so much and I can’t return that.”
“Alex you have to believe me when I say I don’t deserve you. I can’t give you want you deserve. You need someone that can see how important and special you are and I’m not that person.”
Alex bowed his head and Liz continued, “I love you Alex, but not the way you deserve.”
“I can’t lose you”
Liz wasn’t looking at him, but she could hear all his emotions in his voice.
“I’ll always be here for you as a friend, but I can’t be anything more.”
Liz stood up and turned her back to him.
She started out walking away quickly, but when she couldn’t bear to hear Alex pleading to her, she broke out into a run.

When Liz arrived back at home, she surveyed the living room for Maria. She went into the kitchen to get herself something to drink and that's when she saw the note.
Went to the store, be back in a few.
Liz sighed with relief because she didn’t think she could face Maria just yet. She poured herself a glass of water, and went to sit on the couch. Pulling her knees up, she bit her lip to stop from crying; she didn’t know what she was going to do. She couldn’t believe she’d given up her innocence this way.
Her eyes widened when she remembered she’d left evidence behind other than her bra... Evidence of a night that she could hardly remember. There was no telling what Michael would do when he found out, but worse yet... What if he didn’t remember? She gave up her first time, something she had treasured for years in hope of finding the one man who she could open herself up to and who would do the same. How was she going to face him? How was she supposed to act around him?
She heard keys jingling from the other side of the door, so she quickly but quietly ran to her room and locked the door. She slowly crawled onto her bed and silently cried herself to sleep.
Michael opened his eyes and groaned because of his killer headache. He sat up and rubbed his eyes, picking up the clock that sat beside his bed. Every time he’d wake up feeling like this he’d always scolded himself and promised not to drink that much again. But he always seemed to break his promises to himself.
He tossed the blankets off of him as he stood up. He felt a draft and so looked down and shook his head. He didn’t remember how he ended up in bed with no clothes on. Normally when he passed out in a drunken stupor he’d have all his clothes on. Sometimes even his shoes. He scratched his head and went to the bathroom to take a shower.
After finishing up in the bathroom, he went in his living room with only a towel around his waist. He focused on the mess before him. He tried to think back to last night but the only thing he remembered was class. As he tidied up his living room he racked his brain until he could figure out what the hell happened.
But just as a memory was submerging from his scrambled thoughts, there was a knock at the door making his recollection slip away. Cursing to himself, he opened the door to a perky Isabel.
“You just woke up?” she asked as she leaned in to kiss him on the cheek.
Michael rolled his eyes. His head was still pounding and now he had to deal with Isabel’s griping. Even though she wasn’t saying anything negative right now, he knew she would be in the next few minutes.
“Why is that chair by the window?” she asked, noticing it was out of place.
Michael glanced at the furniture and tilted his head. She turned towards him when he didn’t answer and noticed how he was trying to come up with an answer for himself.
Isabel threw her hands up in frustration, “You got drunk last night didn’t you? I called you last night so we can spend time with each other and you chose beer over me?”
Michael held his head trying to stop the pain that was ripping through his head from Isabel’s screeching. “Chill! I really don’t need this right now.”
“You don’t need this? Michael we’re a couple. We are supposed to do 'couple' things. Who was your drinking buddy last night? I know it wasn’t Kyle because he was with his fiancée. Something you should learn from him,” Isabel huffed while pacing in a small circle.
Michael grabbed Isabel’s arm and led her out of his apartment. “You just reminded me. I’m supposed to meet Kyle. So I’ll talk to you later.” He pushed her out the door and closed it. He sighed and went to his bedroom to quickly get dressed.
When Michael arrived at the courts, Kyle was already shooting hoops. “Hey man, sorry I’m late.”
Kyle turned and looked at his friend. “You look like crap.”
“Thanks a lot,” Michael replied, feigning hurt. “To tell you the truth I feel like crap.”
“Do you want to postpone this? I mean you can barely beat me when you’re on top of your game,” Kyle stated, joking with his friend.
“Whatever, you’re just mad because the only way you can win is when I’m hung over.” Michael ran his hand through his hair. “Come on lets go get something to eat.”
Kyle nodded and they both went to the pizza parlor that was a block away. “So what’s eating you? You had a rough night last night?” Kyle asked between bites.
Michael shook his head, “I wish I could remember to tell you if it was rough or not.”
“You got drunk last night? You seem to be doing that a lot lately Michael. If Tess were here, she’d say that you were using alcohol as a way to hide your fears.” Kyle looked at his friend, Michael was normally the quiet one, but he could see something was bothering him.
“God, so what, now that your marrying a wanna be shrink, you’re going to be analyzing me from now on,” Michael spat out defensively.
“Whoa, I’m only talking. What’s up your ass? What? You didn't get any last night?” Kyle scoffed.
Michael looked over his shoulder and leaned forward. “Kyle if you say anything to anybody, especially your girl, I’ll kill you.”
Kyle nodded, “You know you can trust me.”
Michael nodded and said, “When I woke up this morning I was naked…”
“Whoa that’s too much information. What you and Isabel do is none of my business?” Kyle sat back and held his hands up.
“Would you shut the fuck up. What I was trying to say before you interrupted was: Isabel wasn’t there. I don’t remember anything that happened last night. But when I normally pass out..”
“You’re wearing all your clothes,” Kyle finished for him.
Michael nodded. “The funny thing is, the last thing I remember is coming home with Liz after class.”
Both their eyes widened and Michael spoke first, “No, that’s insane. And anyway she doesn’t seem like the type to walk out before I’d wake up.”
“Maybe she was ashamed. Maybe she couldn’t face you,” Kyle offered.
For some reason that hurt Michael. Why would she be ashamed? “What do you know about this girl?” Kyle asked.
Michael shrugged, “That she’s my sister's best friend and roommate.”
“Michael, you have to find out if what you are suggesting is true,” Kyle informed.
Michael sat back and sighed. How was he supposed to do that and if it was true then how was he going to explain this to his sister. “I know. I just hope to God it isn’t.”
